Background / History

Transmigration and inherited identity

Joey was an ordinary person familiar with both JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter. After falling asleep and hearing a piercing insect cry, he found himself sharing a body with Yoshikage Kira. When Killer Queen unexpectedly vanished during their clash, Joey overpowered Kira’s weakened soul and began consuming it 1.

The process lasted roughly five years. Kira continued operating the body during Joey’s intermittent periods of consciousness, while Joey absorbed both Kira’s soul power and that of the body’s weaker original owner. Upon fully awakening, Joey inherited Killer Queen and fragments of the native owner’s knowledge, but no memories from Kira 1.

His inherited identity carried serious liabilities: membership in NGL’s Narcotics Organization and a wanted serial killer’s reputation. Joey insisted that he was no longer Kira, while concealing his knowledge of Kira’s original character. His later claim to have lived in East Gorteau was a cover story chosen to make his background difficult to investigate 18 25 31.

Survival in NGL

Caught in the Chimera Ant attacks, Joey initially sought the organization’s base for weapons, information, and a possible meeting with Kite, Gon, and Killua. Maintaining Killer Queen and using its bombs quickly exhausted him; the mysterious Wallet’s aura enabled him to continue through the forest 4 6 7.

He temporarily joined Pokkle and Ponzu, hoping to steer them away from their original fates. After an ambush separated him from the group, he refused to return to the battlefield, instead killing four pursuers at a stream and hiding in a devastated village. There he reunited with Pokkle and Ponzu and met Kite’s party 11 13 16 18.

Bargain with Kite and loss of his hand

Kite believed Joey was an organization liaison with access to information connected to V5’s covert involvement in NGL. Unable to leave safely through the checkpoint, Joey agreed to guide the party to the base in exchange for escape, Nen instruction, and ten million Jenny. Kite then opened his aura nodes and began teaching him the fundamentals 20 21.

After the party retrieved documents from the base, Kite confronted Joey about his identity, the Wallet, and the insect behind his arrival. Their subsequent retreat was interrupted by a seemingly resurrected crocodile Chimera Ant and Neferpitou. Joey escaped with Killua and the unconscious Gon, cutting off his own left hand when damage to Sheer Heart Attack began transferring to it 30 31 34 35.

Joey asked for Kite to be rescued, and Morel later fulfilled that promise. Kite explained that losing Joey’s hand had acted as a condition powering Chariot’s unusually destructive explosions 36 43.

Rescue, disguise, and rehabilitation

Andrei transported Joey out of NGL using Prisoner’s Single Room. Bondo judged the severed hand too damaged to reattach, and Joey asked that it be cremated; Banana treated him 37.

Pokkle’s drunken disclosure of Joey’s identity and supposed stamina-restoring treasure attracted bounty and crime hunters. To avoid recognition, Joey adopted a refined disguise and stayed with Gon and Killua while Andrei preserved an escape route 38.

At Knov’s villa, Joey investigated the Wallet, discovered its aura-conversion function, and trained under Biscuit. His resulting Gold Experience ability replaced his missing hand and restored Kite’s lost limbs. He then agreed to join Kite’s team after the Chimera Ant crisis, with the goal of exploring and photographing the world 40 41 43 45.

Return to NGL

Kite secured Joey a temporary Hunter Association identity through Netero, using the incriminating NGL records. This allowed Joey to travel legally, but clearing his name remained conditional on joining the extermination effort. Higher-level authorities also imposed duties intended to expose him to NGL’s dangers 48.

Joey returned with Kite and Andrei. Their operation focused on scattered Soldier Ants and intelligence gathering rather than confronting Meruem or the Royal Guard. Kite also revealed that Joey’s pursuers were connected to Tserriednich, Kakin’s Fourth Prince, who wanted him as a human collectible, before assigning him a solo combat exercise against Mafia fighters and Chimera Ants 50.

Appearance

Joey’s current body is a handsome, muscular adolescent with distinctive downward-slanting eyebrows 24.

  • Hair and face: Short black hair and sharply defined features 24.
  • Build: Nearly six feet tall, with a proportionate frame, firm muscles, and eight-pack abdominal definition 7 24.
  • Voice: Low and slightly hoarse 10.
  • Disguise: A fine suit, neatly cut hair, and gold-rimmed glasses give him the appearance of a corporate professional 38.
  • Left hand: Missing after the escape from Neferpitou; later replaced with a fully functional hand that leaves no scar 35 45.

Personality

Joey prioritizes survival and evaluates danger through preparation, information, and realistic assessments of his own limitations. Early on, he relies on traps rather than direct confrontation and declines to revisit a battlefield when the possible reward cannot justify the risk. Nevertheless, he can act ruthlessly toward himself when necessary, as shown by his immediate decision to sever his damaged hand 10 16 35.

Biscuit describes him as polite, humble, and persistent, while also recognizing impatience, carelessness, and sensitivity. He readily asks allies for help and views reciprocal assistance as the basis of lasting friendships. His banter with Killua and Ponzu also helps relieve the group’s tense atmosphere 24 29 42.

Although he enjoys solitude and a quiet life, his central ambition is freedom: travel, photography, unfamiliar landscapes, good food, and eventual peace. He consciously resists Kira’s residual influence, particularly nail-biting and involuntary attention to women’s hands, and explicitly rejects Kira’s hand fetish 13 45.

He remains suspicious of both the Wallet and Chimera Ant allies. Even after the Wallet repeatedly benefits him, he seeks ways to isolate its possible dangers. He is willing to cooperate with defecting ants, but does not yet regard them as companions and acknowledges that further experience might change his views 46 50.

Abilities & Skills

Killer Queen

Joey inherits Killer Queen after consuming Kira’s soul. The Stand provides close-range protection and explosive attacks; Nen users can perceive it, and Kite initially analyzes it as a Nen Beast 1 10 18.

  • Range: Killer Queen can move at most two meters from Joey’s body 2.
  • Physical assistance: Intercepts attacks, pulls Joey clear of otherwise fatal blows, and helps bandage injuries 8 17 30 35.
  • Aura interaction: Can hold Joey’s Ten around itself 28.
  • Cost: Manifestation and bomb use consume substantial physical stamina, despite Joey’s strong mental endurance 6 7.

First Bomb

Killer Queen turns touched objects or targets into bombs, allowing Joey to kill through direct contact or prepared traps 1 6 30.

  • Uses a bamboo water tube as contact-triggered bait and plants bombs on trees and vegetation 6 9 15.
  • Can detonate marked areas to create smoke and cover for escape 15.
  • Joey estimates that the affected portion of a large object occupies a sphere approximately fifty centimeters across, centered on the contact point; touching a tree does not automatically make the entire tree a bomb 9.
  • Early explosions do not invariably kill Chimera Ants. Joey has not established whether this results from stamina limits, subconscious output control, or enemy interference 6.

Sheer Heart Attack

Also called Skeleton Chariot, Chariot, or Heartbreaker Attack, this miniature tank emerges from the back of Killer Queen’s left hand and pursues enemies independently 4 5 16.

  • Returns after completing its orders; if it cannot finish its mission, Joey must retrieve it himself 4.
  • Repeated explosions drain Joey’s stamina, while its tread marks can expose his route to pursuers 4 5.
  • Damage to the tank can transfer to Joey’s left hand 35.
  • Severing that hand both stops the immediate spread of damage and supplies the condition behind Chariot’s exceptional rampaging explosions 35 43.

Nen Fundamentals and Emission

Emission is Joey’s genuine Nen affinity. His unusually strong soul supports rapid aura-control development, but his early physical conditioning and combat experience lag behind his abilities 22 29 39.

  • Ten and Zetsu: Uses aura retention and selective node control to conserve stamina and support extended running 23 24.
  • Ren: Maintains full-power output for slightly over two hours after his training period 47.
  • Nen Bullets: Produces small fingertip aura spheres 46.
  • Advanced techniques: Understands and can barely use most of Shu, In, En, Gyo, Ken, Ryu, and Ko; these remain undertrained 47.
  • Planned development: Intends to combine Nen Bullets with First Bomb for ranged attacks and create an emitted vessel for Gold Experience. These remain development goals rather than completed abilities 46.

Gold Experience

A life-giving Nen ability inspired by Giorno Giovanna’s Stand, rather than an inherited second Stand. Joey develops it using the Wallet’s Specialist aura to animate and reshape touched objects 40 42 44.

  • Creates creatures he knows, ranging from insects to large mammals; larger creations demand more energy 44.
  • Created creatures’ behavior reflects his memories and understanding of their species 44.
  • Can make human organs and limbs, but attempts to create complete humans lack something essential and resemble animals with human appearances 44.
  • Replacement body parts integrate into the recipient as permanent flesh and blood rather than reverting to their original objects 45.
  • Primarily serves healing and support. Joey continues to prioritize his own Emission training because its Specialist aura comes from the Wallet 42 46.

Wilderness Survival and Planning

Knowledge inherited from the native owner helps Joey navigate NGL’s forests. He supplements it with maps, firearms, ambushes, and observations of enemy tracking methods 4 6 16 31.

  • Recognizes that blood trails and Chariot tracks make simply losing pursuers unreliable 5 16.
  • Uses his familiarity with the original manga to anticipate threats, while recognizing that his interference changes subsequent events 11 13.
  • Initially lacks meaningful hand-to-hand combat training; Killer Queen compensates for mistakes during his first close-range fights 29 30.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Wallet / Fierce Insect tattoo — A mysterious skin wallet associated with Ming. Supplies restorative, life-force-rich aura and enters Joey’s body during conversion, appearing as a tattoo. Joey estimates that a conversion consumes about 1.5 times his potential aura capacity to produce a reserve comparable to that capacity; the observed cycle lasts more than five hours. He also concludes that its reserve replenishes while idle 7 41.
  • Handgun and grenades — Weapons found among Kira’s belongings and used during Joey’s escape 2 12 34.
  • Assault rifle — Taken from dead organization personnel; discarded in the stream once empty 7 17.
  • Marked map — Used to locate villages and the organization base; Kite later thanks Joey for providing it 2 4 43.
  • Cell phone — Includes a compass, camera, recorder, calendar, and other basic functions. Joey uses it for navigation, checking time, and photography 5 24.

Relationships

  • Yoshikage Kira — Defeated and consumed soul; source of Killer Queen and several unwanted residual habits. Joey rejects responsibility for being the same person 1 13 31.
  • Kite — Initially a coercive employer, later a mentor and trusted ally. Teaches Joey Nen, helps secure his temporary identity, and invites him to join future exploration 20 21 39 45 48.
  • Gon Freecss — Traveling companion and training ally. Advises Joey on Ten and joins him in imagining a future of exploration 25 45.
  • Killua Zoldyck — Companion who teases Joey but repeatedly protects him. Helps him escape and proposes housing him with the boys after his identity is exposed 24 35 38.
  • Pokkle — Suspicious temporary ally. Investigates Joey’s inherited identity and Wallet, then inadvertently exposes both while drunk 12 25 38.
  • Ponzu — Traveling companion who offers reassurance and banter despite Pokkle’s suspicions. Joey’s flirting with her is explicitly a joke 24 25.
  • Biscuit Krueger — Trainer who invests in his potential, supports Gold Experience’s development, and helps consolidate his Nen and physical foundations 42 43 47.
  • Andrei — Kite’s bounty-hunter friend; rescues, shelters, and maintains an escape route for Joey before accompanying him back to NGL 37 38 47.
  • Morel — Fulfills his promise to bring Kite back alive and respects Joey’s resolve and concern for his companions 36 43.
  • Palm — Briefly proposes dating after Joey compliments her. He declines an immediate commitment because he is not ready for romance 47.
  • Tserriednich — Kakin’s Fourth Prince, linked to Joey’s pursuers; wants him as a human collectible 50.
