Background / History
Killua grew up in a family of assassins and encountered violence and criminal behavior from childhood. This upbringing made him sensitive to disturbing behavior without giving him a strong moral objection to someone’s criminal background 24.
Before the NGL investigation, Gon had trained at Killua’s home. Following their retreat from NGL, Killua and Gon undertake a second intensive Nen-training period with Biscuit 26 41.
Personality
Killua is observant, sarcastic, and initially confident in his combat ability. He treats the weaker Soldier Ants as disappointing opponents, casually jokes after decapitating one, and remains expressionless after removing two fleeing ants’ hearts 28 29 30.
His skepticism toward Joey does not prevent him from helping him. He teases Joey about being abnormal, but also supplies him with firearms, agrees to support his close-combat practice, and offers him a place to stay after his identity is exposed 24 26 29 38.
Killua is strongly protective of Gon. He glares at Joey when Joey challenges Gon’s willingness to kill certain Chimera Ants, and later knocks Gon unconscious rather than let him attack Neferpitou 34 35.
Neferpitou’s overwhelming strength shatters his earlier confidence. Killua concludes that the group was too weak and overconfident, then blames their presence for Kite’s injuries. Biscuit has also noticed his tendency to flee from danger, which becomes a central concern when Kite entrusts Gon’s safety to him 35 43 48.
Abilities & Skills
Electricity Transmutation
Killua uses Transmutation to produce electricity, visibly demonstrating an electrical arc across his fingertips 30.
- Lightning attacks: Strikes Bugs Bunny from midair and later hits the revived crocodile Chimera Ant in the head with a thick bolt 19 34.
- Limited supply: States that his electricity runs out after use and that its power is not yet very high 30.
- Opponent limitations: His lightning does not stop the crocodile’s continued pursuit of Joey 34.
Speed and Lethal Close Combat
Killua moves faster than Joey can initially follow and uses precise attacks against vulnerable body parts 19 29 30.
- Decapitation: Removes a shrimp-shaped Chimera Ant’s head in a single high-speed pass 29.
- Heart extraction: Intercepts two fleeing Chimera Ants and removes both hearts almost instantly 30.
- Rescue: Grabs Joey and carries him clear of the crocodile before Kite fires his hand cannon 35.
- Defensive reactions: Blocks Bugs Bunny’s initial charge alongside Gon, although both are knocked back 19.
Nen Fundamentals
Killua demonstrates efficient aura control during travel and endurance training 25 43 44.
- Runs beside Kite’s mounted companions to provide support during the border evacuation 22.
- Controls his aura while running without Joey’s obvious leakage 25.
- Uses Ten with almost no aura consumption; Joey observes his Ren consumption at approximately one point per second during training 43.
- Can concentrate Nen in his eyes to examine unusual objects, as shown while inspecting the Wallet 31.
Nen Analysis and Water Divination
Killua recognizes advanced Nen techniques and can explain category testing 27 39.
- Immediately identifies Kite’s enemy-detection technique as En and asks about its radius 27.
- Compares Killer Queen’s bombing ability to Genthru’s, warning that even ordinary objects near Joey could become dangerous 29.
- Conducts Joey’s Water Divination test and identifies him as an Emitter when the water turns blue 39.
- Explains the category-specific test results and a personality-based classification theory, while noting that the latter is not completely accurate 39.
Relationships
- Gon — Closest traveling and fighting companion. They coordinate attacks, train together, and share the goal of returning to NGL. Killua protects him from a suicidal confrontation with Neferpitou 19 35 44.
- Kite — Expedition leader and combat adviser. Killua initially wants to prove he can continue deeper into NGL, later blames himself for Kite’s injuries, and receives a warning to protect Gon rather than flee 19 20 43 48.
- Joey — Ally whose strange abilities attract his curiosity. Killua supplies weapons, rescues him, helps test his Nen category, and offers shelter when his identity becomes public 21 26 35 38 39.
- Biscuit — Nen trainer overseeing his renewed endurance training. She requires three hours of sustained Ren before he and Gon can challenge Knuckle 41 43 44.
- Netero — Association chairman who receives his report and sets the combat condition for returning to the operation 36.
- Palm Siberia — Contact who explains the return-to-NGL arrangement. Her threatening behavior toward Gon unsettles Killua 38 48.
- Knuckle and Shoot — Opponents involved in the qualification process. Killua and Gon repeatedly struggle against Knuckle during training 40 47.
- Neferpitou — Enemy whose aura and strength terrify him more than any previous opponent he has faced 35 36.
