Ch. 386Platform, train, cleaning monsters

Joey and Razor’s Nen Beasts explored an underground train station, where a train carrying humanoid monsters arrived and a battle broke out. The train departed with several Nen Beasts aboard, while five transformed cleaning monsters emerged outside and were attacked by the stray cats.

  • Razor sent Nen Beasts into the underground entrance, where they found a spotless subway platform with its signs and writing painted over.
  • After Joey’s hummingbirds vanished in the tunnels, a train arrived carrying humanoid monsters, including cleaners and sword-wielding guards.
  • The Nen Beasts attacked the guards, while Joey’s Scale Bomb hummingbirds struck the train; Joey then used hummingbirds imbued with the First Bomb to destroy the attendant’s invisible barrier and kill him.
  • The cleaning monsters transformed into enormous beasts and charged the Nen Beasts as more monsters emerged from the train.
  • As the train doors began closing, Razor’s Nen Beasts boarded with the camera, but the signal cut out and Razor reported that they had been destroyed.
  • Five transformed cleaning monsters emerged from the underground entrance, and the stray cats sprang out to attack them.

Ch. 387"Fishing"-Developments on All Sides-Station Names

Joey’s group planned to study the Ancient City and its trains, while Kakin and the Hunter Association faced different dangers and constraints. Beyond’s team opened a sealed list of station names and chose the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute as their next destination.

  • Joey, Ging, List, Dwun, and Razor discussed the Cleaning Monster’s flesh, the trains, and how to investigate the underground before continuing their surface exploration by day.
  • Chrollo studied The Cat Who Lived a Million Times and Kakin’s dwindling guards, then took on some of the party’s defense while pursuing a way to exploit the creature’s weakness.
  • The Hunter Association explored the Ancient City by night to avoid Brion, while Cheadle considered the Association’s position and hoped to find Ging’s group.
  • Beyond’s team waited near an Underground Entrance, where Beyond explained that riders needed an Exit Ticket and had to name their destination.
  • Mikhail opened a sealed box containing a translated list of the Ancient City’s Platforms, and Beyond selected the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute as their next destination.

Ch. 388Area ambush at the security booth

Joey and the others discovered that the underground station was guarded by powerful, self-destructing security guards, then went to confront them in person. They stole the guards’ weapons, but the guards began to explode, forcing the group to retreat.

  • Joey realized that the group had repeatedly looped through the same area of the Ancient City and decided that their only hope was to investigate underground.
  • Razor’s Nen Beasts and Joey’s creations were ambushed at the station by spiderlike monsters and two uniformed guards whose faces matched the train Attendants.
  • The security guards destroyed the Camera, the Nen Beast carrying it, and the hummingbirds with plasma and a whistle, so Joey and the others chose to approach the station themselves.
  • Joey, Ging, List, Dwun, Razor, and the Zoldyck Family trio reached the security booth and found the guards waiting inside.
  • List and Dwun used Greed Island cards to steal the guards’ revolver and whistle, but the guards began swelling as a train roared nearby.
  • Joey warned that the guards were about to self-destruct, and Ging pulled List and Dwun back just before two explosions erupted inside the booth.

Ch. 389Ticket office, ticket checkpoint, alarm

Joey and the others tested the station's alarms and used the wild cats to help destroy monsters drawn off the train, while their investigation of the ticket system and Cleaning Monsters yielded little usable information. After Ging and Zigg confirmed that the same train returned with fewer monsters, the group prepared to repeat the lure and thin out its passengers before boarding.

  • The guards self-destructed, destroying their equipment and God Script plaque, and a station alarm drew large numbers of monsters off the arriving train.
  • Ging chose to test the monsters from outside the station, and Joey, Razor, Ging, and Illumi attacked until the monsters crossed the ticket checkpoint and encountered the wild cats.
  • The wild cats killed the flesh-and-blood monsters, Joey and the others destroyed the remaining mechanical monsters, and Joey's Camera recorded twelve train carriages and a Brion aboard.
  • Kalluto and List captured the Cleaning Monsters, but the wild cats blocked their removal from the street, and the group's examinations yielded only fragmented God Script before the creatures died.
  • Ging translated the ticket machine's destination question, but the group lacked usable place names, while Razor confirmed that entering the platform could trigger the alarm.
  • Ging and Zigg identified the returning train as the same one with fewer monsters, and Razor vaulted onto the platform to begin another attempt to lure them out.

Ch. 390Clearing out the monsters in uniform and a different Brion

Joey and the others fought the monsters that poured out of the train, then saw a different Brion swallow one of the uniformed figures as the train departed. Meanwhile, Beyond and his group boarded a separate train after receiving tickets, and the chapter left them traveling toward their destination.

  • Razor triggered the station alarm and blasted the first wave of monsters, while Joey’s Sheer Heart Attack Chariots and the others fought the rest.
  • Illumi controlled several monsters and sent them back onto the train, where uniformed figures used their whistles to stop them.
  • Joey used First Bomb coins to break the uniformed figures’ protective barriers, allowing Illumi’s thumbtacks to pierce one of them.
  • A gold-and-silver Brion emerged, swallowed the controlled figure, and shrieked as the train doors closed and the train left the station.
  • Illumi gave the whistle recovered by Kalluto’s paper doll to Ging, who found God Script markings on it, while the Cleaning Monster restored the station.
  • Beyond and his group obtained tickets, boarded a train, passed inspection, and traveled into the darkness toward their destination.

Ch. 391Rule Motorcycle and Crocodile Zhuanhuan

The Hunter Association traced the replenishment of wild cats to a way out of the sealed city and emerged into ruins where motorcycle-riding crocodile monsters attacked them. Meanwhile, Kakin and the Phantom Troupe fought The Cat Who Lived a Million Times and then continued toward the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute beneath a distant iron tower.

  • Cluck and Piyon confirmed that the wild cats were replenished to a fixed number, and Botobai used Nen beasts and Piyon's drones to locate where they appeared.
  • Piyon's drone revealed a crocodile-headed monster riding a giant motorcycle, and the Hunter Association crossed the invisible boundary into the ruins to find it.
  • Ginta charged toward the motorcycle while Cluck attacked the crocodile monster with seeds, and more motorcycle monsters appeared as the group was surrounded by them and hostile wild cats.
  • The Cat Who Lived a Million Times fought Kakin's Personal Guards and Franklin while protecting the injured Second Prince, then charged toward the distant alarm as wild cats attacked the others.
  • Chrollo and Benjamin chose not to pursue The Cat Who Lived a Million Times, and Balsamilco identified the iron tower ahead as the site of the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute.

Ch. 392Carriage, pitch-black, go!

Joey and his allies fought through the train’s monsters, then investigated a pitch-black carriage containing light-eating creatures before discovering a shipment labeled for the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute. Ging agreed to follow the mechanical carts and explore the institute.

  • Joey, Hisoka, the Zoldyck Family, Ging, and the Greed Island group killed the monsters and uniformed personnel aboard the train.
  • Joey and Ging opened the unlit carriage and saw a bloated monster, tentacles that swallowed hummingbirds, and jellylike creatures sparking on the floor.
  • Ging closed the carriage door as the train slowed and arrived at a station, where mechanical carts carrying metal parts and bionic components boarded.
  • Ging translated the cargo’s label as Nochi Holy Land Research Institute, and the group decided to follow the carts there.

Ch. 393Splitting up, mushrooms? A pincer attack

Joey and the others were attacked by mushroom-like monsters that swelled and burst, forcing them into the pitch-black train car where Ging's group was trapped. Joey used Weather Report to light the car with flames and burn the central monster, but tentacles attacked as the swelling creatures crowded the doorway.

  • Ging and Zigg entered the pitch-black car to explore while Joey and Dwun stayed behind to assemble a mechanical monster from the cart parts.
  • Kalluto cut a mushroom-like creature, causing it to swell and infect the other monsters, and Joey's group fought them as the swelling spread through the train.
  • Joey blasted a hole through the pitch-black car door and joined Ging's group, who explained that tentacles blocked the central monster and Slimes drained their lights.
  • Joey used Weather Report to ignite the car's oxygen, making the central monster gorge on the flames and begin to char.
  • Tentacles descended toward Joey as the swelling monsters crowded the doorway, while Ging's group and Dwun prepared to hold them off.

Ch. 394Coins, encounter, arrival

Joey, Ging, and their group fought past the light-absorbing monster and found Brion chained in the next carriage, where they also encountered Beyond’s Team. Meanwhile, the Hunter Association and Kakin’s group approached the iron tower, and Beyond arrived at the subway station aboard the train.

  • Joey and Ging used coins, Nen Blades, and a transformed bird to break through the monster’s protective membrane and lead everyone into the next carriage.
  • Joey’s group eliminated the little sprites and found Brion bound to the carriage wall with chains marked by God Script.
  • Joey and Ging spotted Beyond’s Team holding tickets, then chose to wait and study Brion rather than approach them.
  • The Hunter Association fought recurring motorcycle monsters and resisted the black cat’s attempts to lure them toward the iron tower.
  • Balsamilco led Kakin’s group near the tower, where Benjamin and Chrollo stopped at a subway entrance and left some things behind.
  • Uniformed people with identical faces entered the subway station, and Beyond stepped off the arriving train soon afterward.

Ch. 395Pros and cons, staff, outside the station

Joey and his companions escaped the train after fighting its staff and witnessing Brion attack a staff member, while the Light-Absorbing Monster’s deadly power devastated the platform. Outside the station, they found Beyond’s Team battling a horde of monsters, with a huge tower visible in the distance.

  • Joey and Ging attacked the staff member checking tickets, but a second staff member emerged from a dark carriage and threatened them with a God Script pistol.
  • Joey and his companions fled the train, freeing Brion, which broke through the staff member’s defenses and swallowed him as darkness spread from the dark carriages.
  • The darkness withdrew when the train’s doors were about to close, leaving destroyed carts, passengers, and monsters behind; Brion survived and waved to Joey as the train departed.
  • Joey and Ging speculated that Brion might be the original they sought and that the staff and Light-Absorbing Monster might be connected to the Laboratory.
  • Joey and his companions passed guards with Illumi’s Thumbtacks in their heads and left the station, where they saw Beyond’s Team fighting a horde of monsters near a distant tower.

Ch. 396The Ticket's Effect × Gathering × Contact

Joey’s group and the Hunter Association reached the subway area, where strange monsters and the effects of the tickets made the situation difficult to understand. The Association tried to contact Beyond’s Team, but the team could not recognize them and responded to their message with an attack.

  • Joey and his companions fought off monsters near the station and discussed whether Kakin was behind the creatures and what the tickets made them see.
  • Cheadle’s group watched the area and saw Kakin members heading toward the iron tower, while a black cat had partially resurrected Kakin’s Second Prince.
  • After Koyakawa noticed Beyond’s Team did not recognize Ging’s group, Cheadle decided the Hunter Association should make contact with Joey and his companions.
  • The Hunter Association waited in an abandoned building and saw Beyond’s Team approach the tower under attack from monsters, with Mercenary piloting their Nen-powered robot.
  • Beyond detected the Association’s observers but regarded them warily, and the team burned Cluck’s message-bearing plant before firing the robot’s flamethrower at them.

Ch. 397Merging, the Iron Tower, and the Protective Force Field

Joey’s group joined forces with the Hunter Association and followed Beyond’s Team toward the Iron Tower, where they discovered the Brion-protected grounds and the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute. After the protective force field vanished and Kakin’s team entered the institute, Joey sent a First Bomb bird to destroy their altar.

  • Joey’s group met Cheadle’s team, exchanged information about Beyond’s Team, Kakin’s conflict, the monsters, and the station, then temporarily joined forces with the Association.
  • As they followed Beyond’s Team toward the Iron Tower, Piyon monitored Kakin’s team and showed footage of the Brion and the Protective Shield surrounding the Tower.
  • Carts shot up the Iron Tower and vanished into the sky, causing the force field to disappear and allowing the Brion and wild cats to leave the grounds.
  • The drone footage showed the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute opening its underground passage, while Kakin’s team built an altar outside the force field and then entered the institute.
  • Joey created a bird from a coin imbued with First Bomb and sent it toward Kakin’s altar to destroy it.

Ch. 398Altar, intrusion, lockdown

Joey's group and Beyond's Team broke through the altar's defenses and reached the research institute, where the tower's force field sealed again and poplar fluff transformed into Brion seeds. Inside, the institute's monsters attacked Joey's group while ignoring Beyond's Team, and the main doors began closing as both teams pushed deeper.

  • Joey's bird was intercepted by identical duplicates near the altar, and the bird and its copies vanished after the original crashed.
  • Beyond's Team attacked and shattered the altar, revealing a Brion-free passage to the institute, while Joey's group fought through Brion to follow.
  • The tower's force field descended again, and transformed poplar fluff rooted and rapidly grew into new Brion.
  • Joey and Ging suspected the giant roots outside might be Brion's true body but continued toward the institute in search of the control item.
  • Joey's group and Beyond's Team entered the institute, where motorcycle monsters and uniformed humans appeared; the monsters attacked Joey's group and ignored Beyond's Team.
  • Beyond deduced that the groups disguised as Mafia members were the other teams, and the institute's main doors began closing behind them.

Ch. 399The passage, splitting up, and Ging's discovery

Joey and Ging’s group cleared the monsters in the passage and explored rooms in the research institute while the Hunter Association continued ahead. Ging revealed that the monsters had carried life-energy stock solution that could greatly increase aura capacity, and Joey rushed to investigate its source.

  • Joey and his companions fought through the monsters in the passage, then stopped to recover and investigate while Cheadle led the Hunter Association onward.
  • Joey, Ging, and the Greed Island group explored nearby rooms, finding ancient books and mechanical Cleaning Monsters that Joey dismantled and recorded.
  • Ging explained that the pungent liquid carried by the monsters was life-energy stock solution that could increase a Nen user's aura capacity, though its effects weakened after the first use and after three days in the air.
  • Ging said Brion might grow rapidly beneath the iron tower because the ground had been soaked with stock solution.
  • Joey sent Chariot toward a sealed door and prepared to gather the spilled stock solution before its effects faded.

Ch. 400Exploring the workshop and woods

Joey, Ging, Razor, and the others explored the research institute’s automated workshop and discovered that its life-energy supply came from poplar trees in a vast glass-enclosed wood. Ging began investigating how to extract the liquid safely while Joey, Dwun, and List ventured toward the dead trees; elsewhere, Beyond’s Team and the Hunter Association explored in uneasy cooperation, and Brion attacked Kakin’s team in the institute’s core.

  • Joey and Razor explored the workshop with hummingbirds and a camera-carrying Nen Beast, uncovering mechanical production lines, nutrient pods, and a balloon room whose restraints destroyed Gold Experience creations and Razor’s Nen Beast.
  • Joey sent the Heartbreaker Attack Chariot through the balloon room’s exit passage and confirmed that the passage teleported it away.
  • Joey and the others found that opening nutrient pods made their liquid disappear and awakened the humans inside, then discovered poplars connected to pipes containing emerald-green life energy.
  • Ging cut a pipe, triggering a painful scream from a tree-bound monster; he destroyed the tree with his dagger and began studying another tree to find a way around the defenses.
  • Joey, Dwun, and List headed deeper toward the withered woods while Ging investigated the trees and Razor and the twins stood guard.
  • Beyond’s Team and the Hunter Association explored the research institute in wary cooperation, while Brion attacked Kakin’s team as they reached the institute’s core.

Ch. 401Conjecture, stalemate, breakthrough

Joey and his companions found no way out of the woods and joined Ging in deciphering the trees’ God Script while three groups faced powerful monsters at a sealed door deeper in the research institute. An old man drained the Big Cat’s aura, and Ging finally cracked the trees’ script and collected their life-energy liquid.

  • Joey reasoned that the city depended on life energy and questioned where the train’s Mechanical Monsters and cargo came from.
  • Joey, List, and the others searched the woods, workshop, and Nutrient Pods but found no exit or usable supplies, so they helped Ging study the trees.
  • The Kakin party, Beyond’s team, and the Hunter Association’s team remained trapped before a strange door, with Brion blocking their retreat and three humanoid monsters barring the way.
  • A Big Cat tried to lure Joey and his companions toward the Brion blockade, but a white-coated old man drained its aura and left it trembling.
  • Ging deciphered the God Script on the trees, collected their life-energy liquid in Dwun’s tool, and offered it to the others.

Ch. 402Footage of the Battle Inside

Joey and his companions discovered that Beyond and the other teams were battling monsters around a mysterious door inside the institute, while the nutrient solution greatly increased their Aura Capacity. Piyon’s footage revealed that the old man hidden in The Cat Who Lived a Million Times’ fur was Tuk Shale, deputy director of the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute, prompting Ging to move the group onward.

  • Joey, Ging, and Razor sent a Camera and Nen Beasts deeper into the institute, where they saw Brion guarding a hall as Beyond, Botobai, and Franklin fought nearby.
  • Joey sent a bird carrying First Bomb to accompany Razor’s scout, while Razor agreed to monitor the hall from a distance.
  • Ida, List, Elena, and Dwun emerged from the nutrient tubs with greatly increased Aura Capacity, and Joey and Razor entered tubs of their own.
  • Ging reviewed Piyon’s video, which showed the teams in a shrinking safe zone and revealed an old man concealed in The Cat Who Lived a Million Times’ fur.
  • Ging identified the hidden man as Tuk Shale, deputy director of the Nochi Holy Land Research Institute, and ordered the group to move on.

Ch. 403Ging's worries, the Red-Skinned Monster, and the Great Tengu

Ging hurried toward the hall while Beyond and the Hunter Association fought the monsters blocking the door. Beyond’s team completely eliminated the Red-Skinned Monster, and Kanzai’s discovery helped the Hunters stop the Great Tengu from restoring itself, causing the door to begin clicking again.

  • Ging decided to reach the hall and assess the situation as Piyon’s request for help reached him.
  • Beyond’s team pierced the Red-Skinned Monster with the robot’s cannon, restrained it, and destroyed its head and remains with a Nen Bullet.
  • The door began clicking after the Red-Skinned Monster was eliminated, but it stopped before opening as the Great Tengu continued fighting the Hunters.
  • Kanzai noticed that the Great Tengu’s ring was connected to the small tengu’s appearances and attacked by removing both of its hands through a spatial rift.
  • Botobai, Ginta, and a Man-Eating Flower destroyed the Great Tengu’s head and swallowed its Nen Bullet, preventing its restoration as the door began clicking again.

Ch. 404Amenosagume, the door opens, awakening

Benjamin captured Amenosagume in a black alms bowl, but Amenosagume escaped by possessing him and was ultimately killed by Shizuku and Benjamin. The door began opening as Joey awakened, sent God Script birds into the hall, and redirected a bomb-state bird toward The Cat Who Lived a Million Times.

  • Cheadle identified the long-haired monster as Amenosagume, and Benjamin trapped him in a black alms bowl after Amenosagume possessed Balsamilco.
  • Amenosagume attacked Benjamin from inside his backpack, but Benjamin used a Star Mark to leave behind a corpse and strike Amenosagume while Shizuku sucked him into her vacuum cleaner.
  • The door began to open, and Ging spotted Joey awake in the nutrient solution as Brion continued advancing on the safe zone.
  • Joey sent God Script birds into the hall, and several reached the safe zone after revealing an invisible protective barrier.
  • Joey changed the course of a bomb-state bird and sent it toward The Cat Who Lived a Million Times.

Ch. 405Breaking In Through the Door to the Experiments

Joey and Ging entered the institute’s hidden experiment chamber, where they found rows of tanks apparently used to manufacture the Hundred Ghosts. As monsters awakened and Brion moved deeper into the facility, the group followed the Cat of Reincarnation and the old man, leaving the cause of the Ancient City’s collapse uncertain.

  • Joey followed Ging’s signal and pursued the Cat of Reincarnation, spotting an elderly man hidden on its back.
  • The old man used his identification badge to form a shield that pushed through the invisible barrier, and Joey’s group followed through before the doorway closed.
  • Inside the chamber, Joey and List noticed that the tanks’ gauges were rising, and Joey broke one open to reveal an Akaname.
  • Ging identified the tanks as a place where the Hundred Ghosts were manufactured and suggested Brion might also be one of them.
  • Joey and the others followed Brion toward the direction where the Cat of Reincarnation and the old man had disappeared.
