Background / History

Angers belonged to the original Lionheart Society. Its history ended in the tragedy of Summer’s Lament, whose investigation results the Secret Party refused to release. The dragons’ destruction of his former life made revenge his defining purpose; beneath his cultivated public persona, he remained an avenger committed to exterminating them 43.

Friedrich von Long was once someone Angers regarded as a brother. Their relationship ended when Friedrich chose dragon blood and power over his former companions 73.

During the 1991 Siberian incident, Angers encountered the being he called the Supreme, later identified in his account as Lu Mingze. The Supreme appeared unharmed after his apparent defeat, remained invisible to those nearby, and moved freely inside Time Zero. He offered cooperation until the Black King’s death and information about one of the Sky and Wind King twins’ eggs, asking Angers to take secret control of it during his coming slumber 76 77.

Angers also had a history of confrontation with Japan’s Hybrids. Years before the Japanese mission, he faced Uesugi Yue in the Sheqi Eight Clans’ conference room; by their later reunion, they treated one another as old friends 94 96.

Appearance

• Silver hair and imposing build: Despite his age, Angers retains a powerful, muscular physique and youthful physical energy 93 96.
• Formal clothing: Commonly wears a black suit with a fresh rose at his breast. In Portofino, he wears a long black wool coat and cashmere scarf 43 96 113.

Personality

Angers presents himself as an elegant, humorous educator. He welcomes questions, shares historical anecdotes, and encourages promising students. His unconventional teaching decisions include allowing the freshman Lu Mingfei to lead a credit-bearing practical combat course 6 9 24.

His geniality conceals an uncompromising hatred of dragons. Lu Mingfei trusts him precisely because revenge makes his motives unusually clear, judging him willing even to bargain with the devil to kill them. Angers nevertheless distinguishes lost dragon authority from a surviving human personality: after testing and questioning Constantine, he accepts that the original Dragon King is dead 18 24 43.

He is also a calculating strategist. During his duel with Friedrich, his apparent anger, taunts, surprise attack, and use of Blood Rage form a deliberate sequence intended to force a specific opening 97.

Angers resists political control when it obstructs dragon slaying. He cultivates trusted personnel, bypasses precedent, and backs Lu Mingfei against the trustees, while recognizing that the destruction of the Dragon Kings will likely expose the rival ambitions of Hybrid families 40 42 43.
