History
Taiyi’s Rebirth
As Taiyi, he received instruction from He Mu, who acknowledged him as half a disciple after a forty-nine-year Dao exposition. Following an Extreme Dao battle, Taiyi entered a divine fetus to begin another life 153 163.
Before returning to the world, Taiyi told Netherworld Venerable and He Mu that he had relinquished his previous Dao Fruit and memories. He requested that they allow his new life to unfold naturally and promised to settle his karmic debts with Kunlun after attaining the Dao 169.
In the ensuing golden age, he defeated contemporary prodigies and awakened ancient competitors alike. Even defeated rivals willingly followed him, collectively naming him Emperor Venerable. At seven hundred, he completed his Dao and underwent the Heavenly Emperor Tribulation 169 170.
Founding the Heavenly Court
Emperor Venerable established the Heavenly Court to pursue whole-sect ascension to immortality. He declared that opening a Road to Immortality would give the world’s living beings hope of eternal life. Netherworld Venerable warned him about the undertaking’s karmic burden, but Emperor Venerable believed his own strength could overcome it 170.
The Court took thirty-three years to construct. Emperor Venerable personally determined its layout, while Starry Sky Roads connected it to the universe for military deployment and pilgrimage. He became the first supreme figure described as truly ruling the myriad heavens 170.
Campaign Against Kunlun
Emperor Venerable demanded that Kunlun surrender the Immortal Bell and send its four Venerables to the Heavenly Court for judgment. When they resisted, he led his army to Kunlun and fought all four himself 171.
Using a rune inherited from He Mu, he recalled the Immortal-Suppressing Stele that had constrained Kunlun for a thousand years. He then deployed it to contain the battle’s shock waves and protect both his army and innocent inhabitants. Even with the Immortal Bell, the four Venerables could not defeat him 171.
The campaign destroyed Kunlun as a Life Forbidden Zone and greatly increased the Court’s authority. However, Zhulong disappeared with the Immortal Bell, denying Emperor Venerable his intended treasure 171.
Preparing for Ascension
After failing to obtain the bell, Emperor Venerable forged his own Immortal Cauldron embryo from green copper discovered in his former life. He placed it within Kunlun Immortal Mountain and worked with Netherworld Venerable to establish a formation that would nourish it into an Immortal Artifact 172.
The Underworld entered the Heavenly Court’s domain, and He Mu accepted a guest-elder position after Netherworld Venerable began another reincarnation. Emperor Venerable granted He Mu authority equivalent to a supreme elder 172 173.
Emperor Venerable refined the Nine-Turn Golden Elixirs and used them to restore Longevity Heavenly Venerable, Heavenly Venerable Yuanshi, and Carefree Heavenly Venerate to their former peaks. They agreed to assist his ascension project 176 178 179.
After negotiating with Big Dipper’s Forbidden Zones, he opened a new Road to Immortality without disturbing their existing arrangements. He and four other Venerables explored the passage; Annihilation Heavenly Venerable, rescued from the road, later recovered sufficiently to join the Court 181 185 187.
Betrayal on the Immortal Road
Emperor Venerable eventually led the Heavenly Court army onto the Road to Immortality. The army’s faith strengthened him, his cauldron, and the Divine Light Platforms. He shattered the Immortal Pass, then committed nearly all his power to opening the gateway between the two realms 190 191.
At that vulnerable moment, Longevity Heavenly Venerable ambushed him with the Reincarnation Lake. Its power clouded his consciousness, while the Myriad Things Origin Cauldron reversed direction and shattered his body 191 192.
His apparent recovery did not immediately free him: under Yuanshi’s control, he ambushed Carefree Heavenly Venerate and hurled Longevity and Annihilation toward the gateway, where black runes began corrupting it 194.
The attack exploited a flaw planted in his heart before he became Emperor Venerable. The Reincarnation Lake and Immortal Cauldron were triggers rather than the sole cause of his subjugation. When Yuanshi forced him to connect with the Heavenly Heart and initiate the Great Sacrifice, the resulting backlash removed the controlling runes. Emperor Venerable regained awareness and concealed his freedom while awaiting an opportunity to act 196.
Recovery and Conquest of the Strange World
After the catastrophe, Emperor Venerable’s origin was almost completely sealed. Because he had served as the medium for the Primordial Heavenly Demon’s devastation, the universe’s myriad Daos had also marked him as an enemy. He Mu arranged for Chuan Ying to escort him to the Strange World, where he could recuperate beyond that danger 197.
Emperor Venerable later declared war on the entire Strange World and unified it under the Heavenly Court. The betrayal had left deep psychological wounds, and during the conquest he nearly lost himself in bloodlust 248.
He established a lasting regional administration beneath his central rule:
| Position | Holder | Responsibilities or significance |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern Imperial Lord | Dongfang Old Supreme | Former lord of the Eastern Immortal Mansion; strengthened under He Mu’s Dao Body’s guidance 248. |
| Western Imperial Lord | Chuan Ying | Oversaw warfare and executions; the most honored of the four regional Imperial Lords 248. |
| Southern Imperial Lord | Unnamed Supreme | The first native Supreme Emperor Venerable subdued; his appointment also encouraged others to submit 248. |
| Northern Imperial Lord | Dixuan | A talented young Supreme whom Emperor Venerable nurtured as a potential Red Dust Immortal-path cultivator 248. |
| Supreme Imperial Lord | He Mu | Honored as Dao Ancestor Wuliang, the Great Heavenly Venerable; remained outside the Court’s jurisdiction 248. |
This governing structure remained unchanged for more than a hundred thousand years. By He Mu’s later visit, Emperor Venerable had entered his fifth life and devoted himself to comprehending the Red Dust Immortal Dao. After testing his strength, He Mu taught him the Immortal Dao for forty-nine days 248 249.
Appearance
- Heavenly Emperor Robe: Worn while receiving He Mu in the Central Heavenly Palace 173.
- Majestic bearing: Commonly appeared aloof and solemn, inspiring reverence comparable to worship of a deity 173.
- Heavenly Emperor’s precious light: Surrounded him during his fifth-life cultivation, lending his features a sacred dignity 249.
- Youthful vitality: His fifth-life Life Wheel radiated abundant vitality rather than signs of decline 249.
Personality
Emperor Venerable is fiercely self-reliant and ambitious. He insisted on opening the Immortal Road personally rather than borrowing He Mu’s strength, and regarded whole-court ascension as both his own aspiration and a means of offering eternal life to others. His confidence could become overconfidence: he dismissed warnings about the Heavenly Court’s karmic entanglements 170 181.
Compared with Taiyi, his early second-life temperament was markedly colder and more aggressive. He usually ignored public speculation and showed interest in only a handful of people and matters. His divergence from Netherworld Venerable’s ideals strained their former closeness, although news of his master’s concern still affected him 172 173.
His pride did not eliminate practical restraint. He accepted a compromise with Big Dipper’s Forbidden Zones because a war could expose ordinary beings to catastrophic losses. Within the Court, he also tried to preserve harmony among the Venerables supporting his expedition 181 187.
The ascension disaster first drove him toward bloodlust, but his later temperament became steadier and closer to that of Taiyi. By his fifth life, he received He Mu with open respect and actively sought instruction about immortality 248 249.
