Marriage proposal
What do you think?
Beyoncé put on a stern face. "Can things like getting married and starting a family be done so casually? By the grace of Goddess, I almost turned and ran away just now."
After saying that, she took off the ring from her finger.
Vera, who still had a silly grin on her face, was struck dumb as if by Lightning Strike. She stared blankly at the scene, her body trembling slightly, feeling as if she had fallen into Ice Cellar.
He stammered:
"You... you didn't already promise me?"
Beyoncé sighed helplessly, "That's because I don't want you to lose face in front of the Goddess, the bishop, and so many fellow believers..."
Vera bit her lip hard, then reached out and took the ring, looking utterly dejected.
He forced a smile, suppressing his grief.
"I'm sorry, Beyoncé, I..." Before she could finish speaking, she felt a burning hot body press against her, and her heart seemed to stop beating instantly.
Vera froze, too afraid to move, completely bewildered by the situation and unsure how to react.
Suddenly, he felt wisps of warm breath near his ear, followed by Beyoncé's voice, filled with disdain and trembling slightly:
"Fool, who proposes by letting the woman put the ring on herself..."
Vera was Lightning Strike again, almost thinking she was hallucinating because she had lost control.
Just then, he heard the other person's voice, filled with gritted teeth. "Idiot, you put it on for me! If you keep spacing out, I'm really leaving!"
In an instant, Vera felt herself come back to life.
In a moment of inspiration, he fully utilized his "Disciplinary Paladin" physical abilities, swiftly slipping the ring onto the lady's slender ring finger.
"Silly boy, were you scared just now?" Beyoncé said with a grin. "Who told you to suddenly act recklessly in the Church without even discussing it with me?"
As she spoke, tears streamed down her face.
"This is a small lesson. You're not allowed to look down on me because I don't have parents, or because I'm a third-rate theater actress, and you're not allowed to bully me. Also, I grew up in the Goddess's Orphanage, and I donate a quarter of my salary to them every month. You're not allowed to stop me from doing this..."
"Otherwise, I'll go to a place you'll never find."
"Did you hear me, Police Officer...?"
"I heard it." Vera stared blankly at the beautiful face with tears streaming down her face, and it took her a while to remember to take out Handkerchief from her pocket.
"Don't cry, I'll promise you everything."
Backlund time, 10:30 PM.
West Borough, Vera's residence.
"Where's the Lieutenant Colonel?" Next to the empty flower bed, Lorry squatted there pitifully, looking back at the dark Living Room once again.
"I'm not some worm inside Vera's body," the aged voice said impatiently. "Can't you just be quiet for a moment?"
"So it's not you who's freezing, sir..." Lorry thought to himself irritably, planning to wait another five minutes, and if the Lieutenant Colonel didn't return, he would just Door Opening and go in.
Anyway, he can open a lock of this level faster than with a key.
I was just muttering to myself.
Lorry saw a figure appear around the street corner.
Lieutenant Colonel? A thought struck him, and he met the man's gaze with a hint of resentment.
Just as Lorry was about to make a sarcastic remark, he suddenly realized that something was wrong with the other party's state. Not to mention a Mid-Sequence "Disciplinary Paladin," even an ordinary person with eyes should have been able to see him. But as the two were about to collide, the Lieutenant Colonel didn't react at all.
Something's not right... He frowned slightly and called out:
"Lieutenant Colonel? Lieutenant Colonel!"
Vera snapped out of her daze and gave her Informant a disapproving look:
What are you doing here so late?
"..." Lorry was speechless.
You invited me here!
It was also said that if one could not accumulate enough Merit within three days, one would need to temporarily return the "Self" and claim it again once enough Merit were accumulated.
"Something's wrong with him," Lorry thought to himself, referring to the "Curse of Knowledge."
"Nonsense, even a fool could see that..." the aged voice sighed. "I still suggest you stay away from that silly girl, lest you catch it."
What does this have to do with Fors? Besides, she's not stupid, okay? Lorry secretly curled his lip, too lazy to pay attention to this sharp-tongued Old Man, and followed the Lieutenant Colonel into the Living Room, sitting down on the Long Sofa with practiced ease.
He casually asked the other person why they came back so late.
Half a minute later.
"What?!" Lorry nearly jumped up, exclaiming incredulously, "You said you proposed to Ms. Beyoncé in Church today, and she said yes?!"
Vera frowned and whispered a reprimand:
"What time is it? What are you shouting for?"
"Besides, what's so surprising about this? We're both single and share the same faith. Is it really that strange for us to get married?"
At this point, he suddenly glared at Lorry:
"I said, weren't you the one who hired the people who were following me and Beyoncé?"
"Make her stop right now, you hear? If it weren't for your sake, I would have already taken her down and thrown her into the special inner prison."
Lorry gave a guilty-looking dry laugh.
"She hasn't been investigating Ms. Beyoncé since the beginning of this week."
"Ahem, Lieutenant Colonel." He abruptly changed the subject, "Now that she's accepted your proposal, when do you plan to get married?"
"That depends on the Goddess's instructions and her wishes; I don't care."
Vera glanced at the clock and urged, "It's too late today, I won't make you any tea, so you won't have trouble sleeping tonight."
You came here today because of your Self, right?
Have you collected everything?
Lorry nodded and began taking things out of his pocket. As he handed them to Vera, he explained their Beyonder Ability and negative effects:
"This is called ' Warrior's Glory '... This Sealed Artifact is the 'Mystic Ring'... Its name is ' Clown Mask '..."
Apart from "The Warrior's Glory," the rest were all collected by Fors during this period of time as he busied himself attending various Beyonder Gathering.
Due to a certain premium, Lorry spent nearly three thousand five hundred pounds to acquire these Sealed Artifact, but their actual value was only around three thousand pounds.
There's nothing we can do about it; it's a seller's market after all.
MI9 would definitely only look at the latter.
As a result, Lorry's savings shrank significantly.
After adding the £100 compensation for the deceased worker, £200 for the day's wages, and daily material expenses, only £1,300 remained in the "Lucky Money Bag."
In other words, before the royalties for the Volume Two of "Great Detective Sherlock" arrived in his account, he had no more than two hundred pounds at his disposal.
Seeing the Informant's pained expression, Vera couldn't help but laugh:
"Alright, you can earn more Pound once you've spent them, but if you miss out on Sealed Artifact that reaches Sequence 5 strength and suits you, you'll really miss out."
"That ' Warrior's Glory ' piece is pretty good. I can decide to give you a higher contribution score and exchange it for some Beyonder Characteristic."
"But in return, you'll do me a favor."
