Background
The Primordial Origin Holy Light Technique is one of the Yaoguang Holy Land’s most renowned inheritances. Danyangzi credits it with allowing successive generations of Yaoguang experts to contend with cultivators from Desolate Ancient Families and Immortal Dynasties who possess complete emperor scriptures 9.
After accepting Taiyi as his final disciple, Danyangzi transmitted the Primordial Origin Scripture and guided his study of its secret techniques. He considered the Holy Light Technique exceptionally suited to Taiyi’s solar constitution, particularly when combined with the Sun True Scripture 9 11 12.
Manifestation
- Blazing radiance: Streams from Taiyi’s skin and surrounds his entire body, including individual strands of hair 15 21.
- Rays and rings: Appears as discrete beams that encircle the practitioner; at minor mastery, 108 rays can become divine rings 21 23 29.
- Large-scale release: Can spread like a sea or tide of scorching light, engulfing the surrounding terrain 21 23.
- Divine appearance: Its brilliance makes Taiyi resemble a descending Sun Deity and can be too dazzling to look at directly 15 21.
Abilities & Skills
Offensive Beams
Holy light can be released outward while other rays remain around the practitioner.
- Shatters flying swords, seals, and other magical artifacts before continuing toward their wielders 15 24.
- Pierces bodies and burns flesh, blood, and bones to ash 15 21 24.
- Vaporizes vegetation and mountains during large-scale releases 21 23.
- Destroys a Profound Jade Platform used for void travel, although Duan De escapes before its destruction stops him 31.
Defensive Radiance
The technique combines offense and defense and is repeatedly described as granting immunity to arts.
- Surrounding beams intercept lightning attacks 20 21.
- Repels a blood-red Killing Sword, though the initial interception does not destroy the weapon 23.
- Divine rings completely block Yellow Springs Evil Fiend, a substance capable of corroding cultivators and contaminating magical treasures 29.
- Blocks the Dao-power attacks of a corpse possessed by a Ghost Fiend 30.
Purification
Holy light is particularly effective against yin-aligned entities and baleful energy.
- Evaporates fiendish mist and illuminates the ancient mine’s dark tunnels 29.
- Reduces Yin Soldiers and skeletal Yin Fiend Cavalry to ash, countering even forces comparable to Dao Palace cultivators 29.
- Injures and continuously erodes Ghost Fiends, including one possessing a decaying corpse 30.
- Purifies scattered blood and flesh before they can stain Taiyi 24.
Shaped Constructs
Taiyi combines holy light with other techniques or weapons to give it specialized forms.
- Colossal sword: Created using Nine Secrets: Dou, also called the Battle Saint Method; with Taiyi’s Sun Sacred Body unleashed, it shatters the combined Yin-Yang Dao Diagram of two Four Extremes experts 24 25.
- Arrow: Strands intertwine into an arrow fired from an emerald-green jade bow, destroying defensive treasures and killing a fleeing Dao Palace fifth-heaven cultivator 26.
- Furnace: Gathered through Nine Secrets: Dou to suppress an opponent and contain true solar fire. The Sun True Scripture’s nine imperial characters can reinforce it 26 30.
Amplification and Limits
- Solar compatibility: Taiyi’s Sun Sacred Body and Sun True Scripture greatly enhance the technique’s power, enabling combat across cultivation ranks 9 11 21.
- Normal prerequisite: Practitioners ordinarily need to reach the Dao Palace Secret Realm before qualifying to cultivate it 12 34.
- Difficult mastery: Many Yaoguang elders only attain minor mastery in Dragon Transformation or Immortal Platform; the current Yaoguang Holy Son attained it after entering Four Extremes 35.
- Overwhelming realm gaps: Taiyi’s full release of 108 beams only slightly slows a Dragon Transformation elder’s grasping hand 27.
- Resistant defenses: Duan De’s Broken Bowl blocks the beams head-on, and the possessed corpse knocks away a holy-light furnace 30 31.
- Temporary external enhancement: Danyangzi’s Guardian Forbidden Weapon boosts Taiyi’s combat strength enough for his holy light to oppose Dragon Transformation experts; this is not a permanent advancement in technique mastery 47 48.
Story Role
- Recognizable Yaoguang inheritance: Displaying the technique reveals Taiyi’s affiliation to the Yin-Yang Sect cultivators who ambush him 23 24.
- Mistaken identity: His 108 streams and advanced attainment lead Duan De to mistake him for the Yaoguang Holy Son 30.
- Candidate Holy Son appointment: Reports of Taiyi attaining minor mastery at Dao Palace third heaven astonish Yaoguang’s leadership and prompt Li Daoqing to appoint him a Candidate Holy Son 34 35.
- Exposure of his infiltration: During Taiyi’s Forbidden Weapon-enhanced ambush, the Yin-Yang Saintess and elders recognize the Holy Light Technique and realize their supposed disciple is a Yaoguang cultivator 47 48.
- Battlefield evidence: After the Saintess’s death, Wang Yangzhan detects traces of the technique through the Saint Mirror and blames the Yaoguang Holy Land, although he cannot divine the attacker’s identity or whereabouts 50.
