Background / History

Yaoguang Holy Maiden

Yao Xi rose above countless female disciples to become the Yaoguang Holy Maiden. Although her talent and accomplishments compared favorably with previous Holy Maidens, the holy land’s leadership placed greater hopes in its Holy Son, Li Yao 58.

She initially wanted to meet and win over Taiyi, Danyangzi’s personal disciple and Yaoguang’s newly designated Candidate Holy Son. After witnessing his tribulation, however, she tried to leave without revealing what she had seen. Taiyi pursued and severely wounded her before stopping the fight, explaining that he had been testing her strength 57 58.

Taiyi subsequently revealed that the Ruthless One’s Lineage had infiltrated Yaoguang and selected its Holy Son as its successor. Initially shocked and doubtful, Yao Xi nevertheless became part of Taiyi’s camp. She later delivered his challenge letter to Li Yao and looked forward to their confrontation 60 69 70.

Alliance and Relationship with Taiyi

Yao Xi increasingly chose to travel with Taiyi, accompanying him to the Jade Pool Holy Land and later into the Fire Domain. Their relationship developed from a wary alliance into open affection, and she was identified as his future Dao companion 175 208 250 251.

After Taiyi defeated the Northern Emperor in Divine City, Yao Xi resolved not to fall behind An Miaoyi in their relationship with him. She spent the night with Taiyi, then returned to Yaoguang overnight because she was embarrassed to face him afterward 320 321.

Heaven-Swallowing Devil Art

Yao Xi chose to cultivate the Heaven-Swallowing Devil Art with Taiyi’s support. He warned her to preserve her sense of self, while she intended to restrain its greed and eventually sever her demonic body rather than remain bound by the technique 246.

Taiyi supplied special-physique remains and the Devouring Heaven Demon Jar to accelerate her cultivation. After absorbing the remaining origins of five or six corpses, including Divine Physiques, a Yuhua King Physique, and a Biluò King Physique, she reported that she could easily defeat her former self even at the same cultivation level 250.

Despite her rapidly increasing strength, she repeatedly postponed breakthroughs to deepen her foundation. She also defended Pang Bo against the Azure Ghost Clan, refusing to abandon him because he was Taiyi’s friend 250 487 494.

Earth and the Starry Sky

Yao Xi joined Taiyi’s journey toward Earth and learned about its civilization while touring City B and nearby cities. She also accompanied the expedition into Kunlun Immortal Land, where the group gathered ancient medicines and discovered records of the Feathered Divine Dynasty’s trapped descendants 526 532.

During later training inside the Green-Gold Ancient Pagoda, she repeatedly fought the Heavenly Emperor’s Son to draws. She then entered a cocoon and used the Indestructible Heavenly Art to shed her demon embryo, completing the transformation she had planned when adopting the Heaven-Swallowing Devil Art 549 550 563.

After severing the Dao, she continued traveling with Taiyi rather than returning immediately to Beidou. Years of cultivation, tribulations, and carefully controlled use of Evolution Liquid brought her to Half-Saint before their return 564 569 570 576.

Holy Lord and Later Life

After repeated persuasion from Li Daoqing, Yao Xi succeeded him as Yaoguang Holy Lord, fulfilling an old ambition. By then, however, she had little attachment to authority: she intended to pass the position to Weiwei after satisfying that ambition and pursue the Starry Sky Ancient Road instead 610 611.

She later became a Great Saint and then a Third Heaven Quasi-Emperor with Taiyi’s assistance. At her latest documented appearance, she was among the family and companions who greeted him after his prolonged recovery from a failed attempt to break beyond the Immortal King realm 700 740 876.

Appearance

• Face: Bright eyes, pearly teeth, and finely sculpted features; repeatedly counted among the Eastern Wasteland’s outstanding beauties 59 69.
• Build: Tall and slender, with a full, shapely figure 141 174.
• Complexion: Crystalline, jade-like skin, often surrounded by luminous radiance 141 201.
• Bearing: Frequently compared to a luminous pearl or a blooming divine lotus, with an ethereal, immortal-like presence 141 174.
• In battle: Her normally otherworldly elegance can become forceful and martial, resembling a goddess of war 213 487.

Personality

Yao Xi is proud, strong-willed, and ambitious. She does not wish to become merely someone else’s appendage, and her determination to change her own fate motivates her decision to cultivate the Heaven-Swallowing Devil Art 174 246.

Her ambition is tempered by caution. She repeatedly suppresses opportunities to advance when she believes her foundation needs further work, and later refuses to rely too heavily on higher-stage Evolution Liquid out of concern for her long-term potential 250 494 569.

She is perceptive and capable of restraint. She deduces Taiyi’s involvement in the Yin-Yang Saintess’s death, recognizes that his continued trust contradicts his threats, and warns Ye Fan about the risks of combining cultivation methods from different scriptures 61 175 206.

Her relationship with Taiyi brings out affection, embarrassment, and jealousy, particularly toward An Miaoyi early on. Nevertheless, she welcomes Lin Jia without arrogance and later warmly receives the Jade Lake Holy Maiden. She also openly credits Taiyi’s support rather than treating her achievements as hers alone 180 245 321 526 564.

Heaven-Swallowing Devil Art

A cultivation art that strengthens the practitioner by absorbing others’ origin sources. Yao Xi uses remains and other resources supplied by Taiyi rather than needing to obtain them through her own schemes 246 250.

A secret technique from the Chaotic Ancient Scripture that creates a massive cross-shaped fissure and an intersecting star-domain manifestation 548.
