Before long, Heath found the so-called Mobile Kitchen Experimental Model on his food cart. It was a tiny, pocket-sized food truck that looked just like the model cars he had played with in his previous life.
Yes, the kind made by scaling down a real car, not the long-legged models who posed beside cars.
"This thing..." Heath looked at the little model in his hand and hesitated before putting it away. He was still outside, and he worried that activating it might cause some trouble.
After all, a brand-new food truck suddenly appearing in front of him would look pretty bizarre.
As lunchtime arrived, Heath got busy again. This time, though, he offered a limited roast duck special: customers could add roast duck to their egg fried rice or Jianbing Guozi for ten League Coins a portion.
Heath had thought it would take a while to sell all the roast duck, but his customers proved far more enthusiastic than he had expected. They quickly bought every last bit.
"Well, would you look at that." Heath looked at the money in his pocket and broke into a radiant smile.
Heath suddenly realized the benefit of teaching Farfetch'd to cook. When he traveled to other cities or opened a restaurant in the future, Farfetch'd could be a huge help. That was another way a Pokémon could lend a hand.
Once the lunchtime rush was over, Heath packed up his food cart with Farfetch'd and Zorua and headed home. There would hardly be any customers between now and the evening meal.
After reaching the Dormitory Area, Heath eagerly took out the little food truck. He looked at it in his hand, unsure how to activate it.
After a little thought, Heath set the food truck on the ground and poked it. Nothing happened.
"Trainer, what are you doing?" Zorua jumped down from Heath out of curiosity, then reached out a paw and scratched at the food truck.
"Nothing. This thing is my food truck. I'm trying to figure out how to open it." Heath picked Zorua up. That soft, furry body felt lovely to hold.
The moment Heath finished speaking, the food truck before him suddenly expanded. Under his astonished gaze, it quickly grew into a food truck roughly the size of an RV.
"Huh? Huh? Huh?" Zorua stared at the sight in shock. How had this enormous food truck appeared? And why did it look exactly like the little one Zorua had just touched?
Heath opened his mouth, then silently pulled open the food truck's door and stepped inside. He wanted to see just what this thing his golden finger had given him could do.
After looking around, Heath's expression grew even stranger. The size of the food truck surprised him a little.
The food truck wasn't particularly large, but what surprised Heath most was its design. It contained practically every piece of kitchen equipment he could need, including a duck-roasting oven and even some equipment so obscure that Heath himself didn't recognize it.
What pleased Heath most, though, were the large refrigerator and freezer. He felt that if he drove this food truck out, he wouldn't have to bring along any of the equipment a chef needed.
The only pity was that this food truck really was nothing but a food truck. Everything was designed for cooking, with no bed or bathroom. Even so, Heath was extremely satisfied.
Satisfied as he was, Heath now had a headache over how to explain the food truck that had suddenly appeared in his possession. He probably wouldn't even get past Officer Jenny Feng's questions.
While Heath was fretting, he suddenly noticed a red button beside the food truck's cutting board. It was labeled [Make plausible], and Heath pressed it out of curiosity.
Heath was immediately ejected, and the food truck vanished without a trace. Just as he stood there bewildered, wondering whether his golden finger had malfunctioned, his phone rang.
Heath took his cheap phone out of his pocket. Sister Feng had given it to him. Although it was Officer Jenny Feng's old phone from before she'd upgraded, it was more than enough for Heath. All he needed it for was calls and messages, anyway.
"Hello?" Heath answered the phone.
"Hello, am I speaking to Mr. Heath?" The girl had a lovely voice. Heath thought she could easily work as a voice actress.
After Heath confirmed his identity, the girl cheerfully told him that he had won Silph Co.'s newly released Mobile Food Truck Experimental Type I. She needed him to provide his delivery details.
In his previous life, Heath would have mocked these scammers without hesitation for using such an outdated trick. But remembering the food truck that had just vanished and the option to make it plausible, he quietly provided his details.
Once he had finished, the girl told Heath that he would receive his prize later that day.
After hanging up, Heath was still a little dazed. This surprise had come far too suddenly. Still, it let him breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed his golden finger was pretty powerful if it could even pull off something like this.
Just before the evening meal, Heath finally received his prize. It was identical to the food truck his golden finger had given him, except that the button to make it plausible was gone.
Naturally, something like this attracted the television station's attention. A reporter from Viridian City came over to conduct an interview, and Heath obtained a brand-new food truck through official channels.
"Heath, I never knew you had this kind of luck." Officer Jenny Feng looked at Heath with a strange expression. She had never imagined that Heath, who always had terrible luck, would actually win a prize one day.
"Sister Feng... My luck isn't that bad, okay?" Heath said, unsure whether to laugh or cry. Still, this win really was thanks to his golden finger.
"This is a nice truck... But Heath, do you have a driver's license?" Officer Jenny Feng clicked her tongue as she looked over his food truck, then casually asked the question.
Heath froze. He really didn't have a driver's license.
"Oh? Little Heath doesn't have a driver's license?" Officer Jenny Aya, who had been watching the excitement from the sidelines, broke into a radiant smile.
A chill ran down Heath's back. How had he forgotten that Officer Jenny Aya was the one responsible for administering driving tests and issuing licenses?
"Right, Aya. I'll leave Heath to you, then. Make sure this fellow learns to drive safely." Officer Jenny Feng patted her sister's shoulder in satisfaction, while Heath trembled at the smile on Officer Jenny Aya's lips.
"Of course~ I'll make sure to teach our little Heath how to drive a big vehicle~" Officer Jenny Aya looked at Heath with a wicked grin.
Well, the "Di" is gone. It looked awkward when I included it.
