Background / History

Feng was the first person to help Heath after he arrived in the Pokémon world as a thirteen-year-old orphan burdened with his deceased parents’ debt. She took him in and lent him the money to establish his breakfast stall. By the beginning of the story, he has lived with the Officer Jennys for four years and regards Feng as closer than a biological older sister 1 3 9.

Despite her youth, Feng has already become captain of Viridian City’s Public Security Office. She hoped Heath would join the police and required him to exercise before he settled on a career. When he instead chooses to become a traveling chef, she accepts his decision and promises to see him off 9 10 19.

Appearance

  • Resembles the other Officer Jennys, but has slightly larger eyes 9.
  • Looks somewhat more mature than the colleagues who gather around Heath when he returns home 3.

Personality

Feng is mature and composed in public, but openly playful with Heath at home. After an exhausting shift, she hugs him enthusiastically over the prospect of dinner and teases him when he protests. Her affection is practical as well: she provides housing, startup money, and advice about caring for his Pokémon 3 9.

Her protectiveness can become severe. She beats Heath after he enters Viridian Forest against her instructions, leaving him limping, and readily disciplines colleagues who go too far in teasing him. Nevertheless, she trusts his judgment when he identifies an enemy and believes he will study honestly without cheating 11 29 50.

Feng teaches Heath to help within his own area of competence rather than recklessly enter dangerous situations. During the chemical-plant fire, that advice leads him to feed rescue workers instead of attempting an unsafe rescue himself 40.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Strength

  • Leaves a fist-shaped dent in a wall while warning Heath not to overcharge customers 19.
  • Her strength makes Heath question whether she even needs a Pokémon to subdue criminals; this is his speculation, not a demonstrated arrest 19.

Police Command

  • Commands immediate respect: the other Officer Jennys straighten their posture as soon as she speaks 3.
  • Assigns patrol duties during the Viridian Forest investigation and offers Heath emergency assistance from her team 22.
  • Mobilizes the Officer Jennys immediately after the chemical-plant explosion and restricts entry beyond the emergency cordon to League personnel 40.
  • Gathers her colleagues to watch farewell ceremonies for Officer Jennys killed in other cities 39.

Pokémon Handling

  • Advises Heath to groom Farfetch’d’s feathers to strengthen their bond and reports its capture to the League for protected-Pokémon registration 3.
  • Uses her ace Pokémon, Arcanine, for rapid travel and combat. It is described as immensely powerful and exceptionally fast 10 28 29.
  • Orders Fire Spin against Asura, though he escapes on Xatu before she can stop him 29.
  • Has Arcanine dry her sweat-soaked clothing with thin, controlled wisps of flame 10.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Arcanine’s Poké Ball — Used to summon her ace Pokémon at home and during emergency deployments 9 40.
  • Poké Ball-opening device — Normally used to rescue Pokémon from Pokémon Hunters. It cannot open Heath’s sealed GS Ball or establish whether a Pokémon is inside 10.
  • Whip — Carried when she confronts Heath over his unauthorized visit to Viridian Forest 11.
  • Handcuffs — Readied after she mistakes Zorua’s human illusion for a little girl in Heath’s room; she puts them down once the transformation is demonstrated 30.
  • Communication device — Lent to Heath during his permitted forest visit; pressing its button would summon Feng and her team 22.

Relationships

  • Heath — Her unrelated younger-brother figure, whom she took in and helped establish as a cook. She also gives him her old phone after upgrading her own 3 9 37.
  • Arcanine — Her ace Pokémon and mount. It enjoys Heath’s roast duck but refuses to intervene when Feng punishes him for disobedience 10 11 27.
  • Officer Jenny Aya — A colleague and Jenny Family sister whom Feng entrusts with Heath’s driving instruction. Feng repeatedly stops her suggestive teasing and eventually orders her to run five laps around the Driving School 37 41 50.
  • Farfetch’d — A protected Pokémon whose welfare Feng helps oversee. Initially astonished that Heath teaches it to cook roast duck, she praises its food and comes to consider its ambition plausible 3 27.
  • Zorua — Initially encounters her disguised as Caterpie. After witnessing her illusion ability, Feng accepts her as Heath’s partner and tells him to treat her well 29 30.
