Background / History
Imperial upbringing and flight
Dai Mubai grew up under Star Luo’s succession system, which forced outstanding imperial children to compete against their siblings. Betrothed from childhood to Zhu Zhuqing of the Hell Spirit Cat clan, he faced his elder brother Dai Weisi, while Zhu Zhuqing faced her elder sister Zhu Zhuyun. He cultivated desperately but eventually fled, believing his brother’s age advantage made victory impossible 94 99 272.
His Evil-Eyed White Tiger martial soul marked him as a member of Star Luo’s imperial family, making admission to academies in the rival Heaven Dou Empire difficult. Shrek Academy nevertheless accepted him as an applicant 94 95.
Admission to Shrek Academy
Dai Mubai’s first day exposed both his talent and his arrogance. He scattered Gold Soul Coins to disrupt the admission queue, then demanded a match after overhearing Leng Xiyue suggest she might accidentally cripple him. Although both were rank 31, she defeated him without activating her martial soul, using a branch before kicking him out of the ring. He acknowledged his loss and prepared to leave, but she declared that he had passed 94 95.
At the welcoming banquet, he questioned Qin Menglan’s qualifications and accused the academy of favoritism. She answered by firing her self-made Soul Tool past his cheek, demonstrating that she could have killed him. He stormed away but remained at the academy, returning to lessons and joining Oscar under Zhao Wuji’s tenfold-gravity training 95 96.
Renewed purpose and Northern Land training
Leng Xiyue confronted Dai Mubai about abandoning his fiancée and warned him about the fate Zhu Zhuqing could suffer without his support. She argued that a genuine bond could strengthen their Martial Soul Fusion Skill enough to overcome their older siblings. He resolved to cultivate seriously and contact his fiancée if his family reached him 99.
Dai Mubai subsequently participated in the Jiuzhou Empire’s war of independence and spent several months surviving in the Far North with Oscar and Ma Hongjun. These experiences hardened the three into unusually capable young fighters. He also developed his self-created sword technique in the Northern Land 156.
Arena battles and conflict with Yu Xiaogang
By the time the newer students joined Shrek, Dai Mubai had become an established Great Soul Arena competitor, with a record of 105 wins and twelve losses. His rivalry with Oscar drew a packed audience. Despite wounding Oscar and attempting a decisive mutual-injury exchange, Dai Mubai lost their featured duel and conceded 161.
When Yu Xiaogang began teaching at Shrek, Dai Mubai challenged his uninformed assessment of the students. He quickly defeated Tang San, then sparred against several classmates. Afterward, he rejected Yu Xiaogang’s demand that he treat his friends like enemies, arguing that suitable stronger opponents—not ruthless attacks on his own companions—would provide meaningful training 176 177 178 179.
As Shrek’s captain, he helped lead the team to victory over the Imperial Fighting Team in less than a minute. Oscar’s Mirror Sausages allowed the others to reproduce his combat form and sword technique, multiplying the team’s offensive power 183 185 186.
Continental tournament
Oscar later surpassed Dai Mubai in Soul Power and became captain, leaving Dai Mubai as vice-captain of Jiuzhou Heaven Dou Imperial Academy’s second team. The two remained central to the team’s prospects against stronger tournament opponents 238 239.
Against Victoria Academy, Dai Mubai defeated Tie Yu, Ling Feng, and Hong Yu using his custom armor and enhanced attacks. Li Yixue then exhausted him with regenerating Snow Condensation Grass whose freezing and slowing properties prevented him from closing the distance 260 261.
The finals brought him face-to-face with Dai Weisi and Zhu Zhuyun. Dai Mubai declared that he no longer wanted Star Luo’s throne: his goal was to fight alongside Zhu Zhuqing and overcome their childhood fears. Supported by stacked team enhancements, the pair formed the Hell White Tiger against their siblings’ drug-enhanced Hell Black Demon Tiger 272 273.
Dai Mubai ultimately dissolved the fusion and attacked the enemy tiger directly with his armor and conjured weapons. He endured its crushing grip until it collapsed, then knocked both opponents out of the arena before collapsing himself. Although his wounds were subsequently healed, he reported that circulating his Soul Power caused lingering evil energy inside him to expand 273 274.
Uprising in Star Luo
After the tournament, Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing returned to Star Luo under Leng Xiyue’s instructions. His first attack on armed guards demonstrated the danger of modern firearms: bullets penetrated his defenses, and a Soul King captain badly wounded him 287 288.
Dai Mubai then planned to infiltrate an Earl’s fortress disguised as the guard captain. With Li Mengdie and the other girls supporting him, he killed the Earl using a captured Dragon Flame Cannon and destroyed the bridge to the Inner City. Once the fortress was secured, Li Mengdie rallied more than 120 enslaved people while Dai Mubai organized weapons, defenses, food supplies, and radar surveillance 289 290 291.
Territorial rule and war
Dai Mubai converted the fortress into a settlement, assigned housing and work, and established a fifty-person personal guard. Officers trained his growing army using Miho Nishizumi’s Military Training Guide. He then marched with two thousand soldiers to seize the remaining earldom 295.
By abolishing taxes and forced labor while purchasing surplus grain, he won support from farmers and townspeople. His forces occupied the earldom’s five towns, and its remaining army fled. The Jiuzhou Empire effectively guaranteed his territory’s independence by warning that attacks on its valuable equipment would be treated as a declaration of war 296.
His territory later exported energy bottles and industrial components compatible with Jiuzhou products, exchanging manufactured goods for grain and immigrants. Over the following years, his army became mechanized, fielding tanks and self-propelled artillery. With one hundred thousand elite troops and at least three hundred thousand additional potential fighters at home, he launched a rapid offensive that seized two provinces in a single day 297 328.
When Star Luo forces poisoned Gengxin City, survivors led by Lou Gao fled toward Dai Mubai’s territory. Dai Mubai lamented his inability to rescue its people in time and witnessed Leng Xiyue’s announcement that the Jiuzhou Empire would wage war against Star Luo 329.
Appearance
Dai Mubai initially appears presentable and aristocratic; later training gives him a tall, powerfully built physique 94 176.
- Eyes: Shares the distinctive “evil eyes” associated with his elder brother Dai Weisi 272.
- Family resemblance: Dai Weisi bears a seventy-to-eighty-percent resemblance to him 272.
- Transformed appearance: White Tiger Vajra Transformation enlarges his muscles and covers his body in golden markings 161.
Personality
Dai Mubai initially combines aristocratic entitlement with a fierce sensitivity to humiliation. He dismisses the admission crowd, lashes out after losing to Leng Xiyue, and challenges Qin Menglan’s place at Shrek. Nevertheless, he accepts his defeat in the admission match and proves willing to endure demanding physical training 94 95 96.
His early political views reflect Star Luo’s slaveholding royal culture. He initially condemns famine refugees as traitors and regards enslaved people as imperial property. Hearing a young woman’s account of life in Star Luo begins to unsettle that outlook, giving Leng Xiyue reason to believe he can develop compassion 96 97 99.
His temper remains strong, but he learns to distinguish enemies from companions. He treats fellow students as brothers and sisters, refuses to injure them merely to satisfy a teacher, and prioritizes the survival of the girls assisting his uprising 176 179 290.
His Northern Land experiences also change his ambitions. Rather than inherit Star Luo’s existing order, he comes to prefer building a new nation for its people. By the tournament finals, he rejects identification with a state that continues to defend slavery 272.
Abilities & Skills
Evil-Eyed White Tiger
His martial soul specializes in powerful, broad attacks supported by transformation and defensive skills 94.
- Martial Soul Possession: Grants tiger claws and supports close-range striking; he also uses it to withstand Zhao Wuji’s gravity training 94 96.
- White Tiger Protection Barrier: Defensive shield capable of reducing incoming force, though Oscar’s Iron Fist can break through it 161.
- White Tiger Fierce Light Wave: Ranged attack emitted from his mouth. He often follows it into close combat while the opponent is occupied 161 260.
- White Tiger Vajra Transformation: Third Soul Skill; enlarges his physique and enhances his other abilities 94 161.
- White Tiger Meteor Shower: Fourth Soul Skill; produces numerous golden light orbs for wide-area bombardment 178.
- White Tiger Meteor Shower Plus: Enhanced version with sufficiently dense coverage to leave Ling Feng no gap for evasion 260.
Formless Heavenly Astral Sword
A self-created Soul Skill developed in the Northern Land, also referred to as the Heavenly Astral Sword or White Tiger Heavenly Astral Sword 156 177 185.
- Produces a sword for melee combat and cutting attacks 161.
- Gains additional capabilities through his fourth Soul Skill, including sword energy capable of shredding Tang San’s binding net 177 178.
- Can form other weapons, including daggers, a halberd, and a spear 273.
- Can be copied through Oscar’s Mirror Sausages, allowing the entire team to unleash coordinated sword attacks 185.
- Reaches three times its normal strength when amplified by his custom external armor, forming a five-meter broadsword against Tie Yu 260.
Hell White Tiger
Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing combine their martial souls into the Hell White Tiger. Leng Xiyue identifies their emotional bond as a key factor in the fusion’s strength 99 273.
- Under stacked team enhancements, Dai Mubai temporarily reaches high Soul King-level Soul Power, while their fused form reaches Soul Emperor strength 273.
- These are externally supported combat increases, not permanent cultivation breakthroughs 273.
- Their fusion can be dismissed tactically, allowing Zhu Zhuqing to evade while Dai Mubai attacks independently 273.
- Against the Hell Black Demon Tiger, they require further strength and speed enhancements to compensate for the enemy’s drug-induced advantages 273.
Combat Experience and Limitations
- Close combat: Uses punches, kicks, claws, and ranged-to-melee combinations; can subdue a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent without killing it so a teammate can claim its ring 168 260.
- Survival experience: Has fought dangerous opponents in the Northern Land and killed numerous fierce tigers in the Far North 177 273.
- Swordsmanship: Admits that his hand-to-hand proficiency falls short of Liu Qinghan’s swordsmanship; her close pressure can prevent him from safely activating enhancement skills 178 179.
- Endurance limits: Repeated major attacks drain his Soul Power, leaving him vulnerable to sustained control tactics 260 261.
- Defensive limits: Concentrated gunfire can penetrate his protective aura and inflict serious injuries despite his cultivation 288.
Military Command and Administration
- Organizes machine-gun teams, fortified positions, surveillance, weapons distribution, and supplies during the fortress siege 291.
- Delegates guard selection and officer training while establishing housing and work assignments for settlers 295.
- Uses tax and labor reforms to secure civilian support, then develops industry and trade to obtain food and population 296 297.
- Commands mechanized forces in rapid offensives and maintains a territory with substantial capacity for popular resistance 328.
