Sylvanas is the second daughter of the Windrunner family and was already a Ranger-General of Silvermoon City during the Second War, a position described as rivaling Alleria’s standing. She operated from Windrunner Tower and maintained her ranger training, armor, and weapons with exacting care 28.

The devastation of Quel’Thalas, the Scourge, and the fate of Nathanos profoundly shaped her. She pursued Arthas after the kingdom’s fall, fought Scourge forces and demons, and came to view vengeance as both a personal burden and a military necessity 216 238 346.

Her break with Alleria began over the treatment of undead elves. Sylvanas argued for accepting those who had regained consciousness, while Alleria saw their presence as an intolerable danger to the Sin'dorei.
