Bad luck
Breeze Ballroom.
Lumian looked around in the dim light but couldn't find Charlie.
This made his heart sink, and he quickly beckoned Louis and Sakota over.
"Boss, what's up?" Louis asked somewhat anxiously.
He assumed his Boss was dissatisfied with something about the current state of the Dance Hall.
Lumian's gaze swept over the Waiter in their waistcoats and bow ties, and he asked in a casual tone, "Where's Charlie? I need to speak with him."
Louis's eyes widened instantly, and he blurted out in astonishment, "Boss, didn't Charlie just go out with you?"
Me? Charlie followed me out? Lumian's pupils suddenly contracted, as if he had received an extremely intense light.
He asked in a deep voice, "When?"
Louis thought for a moment, then looked at Lumian with a puzzled expression and said, "Less than five minutes ago."
Lumian's gaze fell on Sakota, and he found that this taciturn and relatively more trustworthy Subordinate also looked confused.
Five minutes ago? I've been on White Coat Street for over half an hour now, and besides, the last time I left the Dance Hall, I was disguised as a drunkard, so Charlie couldn't have left with me... Lumian quickly ruled out the possibility that Charlie had followed him out of the Dance Hall without his knowledge.
This is getting increasingly bizarre!
Combined with Charlie's astrological Fortune both red and black, the probability of him encountering danger is almost 100%!
Lumian suppressed the various thoughts surging in his mind and said to Louis and Sakota, "Perhaps someone is impersonating me, but I don't know what he wants with Charlie."
"Impossible..." Louis blurted out.
He and Sakota had both spoken to the Boss a few minutes ago, so it couldn't be fake!
Before Louis could finish speaking, Lumian gave him a cold look, causing him to immediately change his stance and stammer, "Perhaps... perhaps it really is false."
Lumian didn't dwell on the question, instead asking, "Did Charlie change his clothes when he left the Dance Hall?"
According to the rules of Breeze Ballroom, each Waiter, Bartender, Cook, and Kitchen Assistant is entitled to two sets of uniforms, but they cannot take them out of the Dance Hall and must keep them in the changing room on the first floor.
This is due to the social environment of the Market District. The Bartender and Waiter may go bankrupt at any time due to their own or their family's gambling addiction, alcoholism, illness, etc., and be forced to flee this place. If they take their uniforms home, they will definitely pawn these things to get Cash before moving out, and they will not care whether Breeze Ballroom belongs to Gang or not.
Similarly, the cheap Café in Trier that cater to scavengers, laborers, Vagrant, and low-income workers often use tin cutlery, which is Iron Chain to the tables, leaving only a small amount of room to move around, so that customers can't quietly take it away and sell it.
Even nicer Café have their own problems. For the sake of Dignity, they tend to use silver or porcelain cutlery. However, some customers are not so Dignity, so the Boss has to count the cutlery again and again after closing each day to see if anything is missing, and repeatedly remind the waiters to pay attention to similar things.
"No," Louis answered Lumian's question with certainty.
He had originally intended to stop Charlie from leaving the Dance Hall dressed as Waiter, but since Charlie was leaving with the Boss, he Rationality kept quiet.
Most of the rules in the Dance Hall are for Waiter, dancers, Bartender, Cook, Thug, Cleaner, and even managers; the Boss doesn't need to follow them!
Lumian nodded slightly and said calmly, "You all go and attend to other matters."
After saying that, he walked towards the dressing room near the kitchen area.
He suspected that Charlie's disappearance was related to Suzanne Matisse!
The small dressing room was empty. Lumian glanced around and found the locker with Charlie's name on it.
"Quickly reacted, knowing to find a medium for Divination for me." Franca, dressed in Black Robe and wearing Hood, appeared from Lumian's side and praised him.
"I'm not stupid." Lumian replied simply, took out the half-section of wire he always carried, fiddled with it for a few moments, and opened the closet where Charlie kept his clothes.
Franca hesitated for two seconds, then reached out and took out Charlie's Linen Shirt.
She then used a broom placed outside the locker room door to perform Divination.
Charlie's current location...
Charlie's current location...
"..."
Franca held Charlie's clothes in her left hand, pressed her right palm against the top of the broom, and muttered something under her breath.
She quickly released her right hand, but the broom remained motionless, standing firmly as if it were still being supported.
Several seconds later, it collapsed with a thud.
"Were we interfered with?" Lumian asked tentatively.
Franca slowly shook her head:
"Doesn't look like it..."
She quickly walked to the Full-Length Mirror in the dressing room and ran her hand across its surface a few times.
Holding Charlie's clothes, she began a new round of Divination.
After a few breaths, the Mirror became deep and dark, as if reflecting the darkness itself.
The next second, two Daoist appeared, walking in the yellowish and blurry light.
One of them vaguely resembled Charlie, dressed as Waiter, while the other's silhouette from behind looked very much like Lumian.
Besides that, there was nothing else to see.
Franca examined it for a few seconds, then gave her interpretation with certainty:
They're Underground!
"So the Divination just now couldn't indicate the result. The broom can't just jump up and stand upside down by itself, can it?"
Lumian nodded, turned and walked out of the dressing room, went upstairs to get a Carbide Lamp and some other things that might come in handy later, and headed straight outside the Dance Hall.
He already had a rough idea!
Seeing this, Franca once again took out the fluorescent powder and, with the help of Incantation, concealed herself.
Bathed in the Crimson Moonlight and the glow of the Gas Streetlamp, Lumian walked quickly along the Market Avenue, searching for any possible Spider Silk.
His destination was the entrance to the Underground in the middle of Market Avenue.
In the patchwork of light surrounded by darkness, Lumian suddenly stopped in his tracks.
He noticed that the fence of the drainage ditch had shifted slightly, there were several messy footprints next to it on the roadside, and the Gas Streetlamp, which was about Ordinary Person height, showed signs of being hit.
"It was like slipping on a ditch, struggling to regain my balance, then tripping over a drain, and finally crashing into a street lamp... There should have been some blood, but it was cleaned up..." Franca reappeared and gave a preliminary account of the whole incident based on the scene.
She muttered to herself, slightly puzzled, "It's a bit like the unfortunate thing that happened to me this afternoon..."
At this point, Franca suddenly realized:
"That Bad Luck fake Eve? He's the one who took Charlie away?"
Lumian had long suspected this, and now he was even more certain:
"If he can impersonate Mr. Eve, he can certainly impersonate me."
"This ability is pretty impressive..."
At this moment, all the details had roughly come together in his mind:
Suzanne Mattis was close to recovering, but worried that the Official Beyonder were still monitoring Charlie. So she had the fake Mr. Eve disguise himself as Charles and take Charlie away in a seemingly normal way, taking him Underground. Once in the Underground Trier, it would be much harder for the Official Beyonder to find them.
If we wait any longer, even the Divination might be disturbed!
"Even if you're not powerful enough, you can't Official Beyonder during the first investigation," Franca replied, then stopped Invisibility and followed Lumian toward the Underground Trier Entrance located in the middle of Market Avenue.
As the yellowish-blue light of the Carbide Lamp illuminated the descending steps, Lumian found two pairs of footprints.
He recognized one of the pairs; it belonged to Charlie.
Judging from the footprints, Charlie was terrified of venturing Underground at Late Night, walking hesitantly, but ultimately chose to trust "Charles."
There are no signs that he has been restricted by www. hetushu. com. com for the time being.
"Idiot..." Lumian cursed at the guy.
It's normal not to be able to tell what's real and what's fake, after all, one is Beyonder and the other is Ordinary Person. But they've walked side by side for a long time, didn't they notice anything amiss in their conversation?
Do you think I, Lumian Lee, am so easily impersonated?
"Thank goodness there were footprints." Franca breathed a slight sigh of relief.
The simplified "Dowsing-Rod Method" is difficult to use Underground because although it may point in the right direction, there may not be a path, requiring a long detour and posing a risk of getting lost.
The "Witch" carried no lighting equipment, whether because she was certain she wouldn't be separated from Lumian, or because she wasn't worried about the darkness affecting her eyesight.
Lumian carried the Carbide Lamp and walked up the stairs to the floor with the names of the streets and Square.
He was very fast; sometimes he had already chosen a direction before he even found the footprints, and soon he found Charlie and the fake Eve's footprints again.
This puzzled Franca for a moment, and after several attempts, she finally couldn't help but ask, "You seem to know where the fake Eve will go?"
"That pervert took the same route after drugging Jenna," Lumian replied calmly.
This is the route that group is most familiar with and feels safest on. Moreover, the fake Eve is probably taking Charlie to see Suzanne Matisse— Suzanne Matisse is likely at the end of this route!
Franca didn't say much, using the surrounding darkness to partially Concealment herself, sometimes searching forward, sometimes keeping watch behind and to the sides.
After walking for a few minutes, Lumian and Franca stopped.
There seems to have been some kind of collapse here; there are rubble everywhere, and the footprints become messy, eventually pointing to a small Cavern blocked by a pile of rubble.
"The target encountered a minor landslide and got trapped here?" Franca hissed. "That's incredibly unlucky!"
She immediately looked at Lumian:
"Where did you buy that Bad Luck Charm? It's incredibly effective!"
"I'll buy you one next time we meet." Lumian wasn't sure if she'd run into someone as unlucky as that Vagrant man again anytime soon.
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw pieces of gravel rolling down from the pile of stones blocking the Cave entrance, landing with a thud.
Before long, a passage was cleared out, and a figure cautiously emerged.
He had blond hair tinged with black, bright light blue Eyes, and was quite handsome, resembling another Lumian.
