The commissioner
With a snap, Franca kicked away the hand bone that was trying to block her way and trip her up.
"Isn't this annoying? Can't you come up with something different?" she grumbled, turning her head to look at the road sign next to her.
That means they have finally arrived at their destination.
Each level of the Catacombs was enormous; otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to hold so many skeletons. The signposts at each node offered very limited information, only showing the seven or eight most prominent place names and nearby Tomb Chamber. Franca and Jenna found the "Thorns and Shield Wall Tomb Chamber" by returning to the small Sacrificial Plaza and starting from the beginning.
Unlike the fourth level of the Tomb Chamber, which was basically sealed off and had no Corpse or skeletons piled up on the path, this place was littered with scattered bones and decaying objects, and permeated with a faint, unpleasant stench.
Jenna's gaze passed over the pile of bones outside and fell upon several thin metal plates embedded in the tomb wall. Their surfaces were blurred and showed signs of severe corrosion. Only the symbols of Shield Wall and Thorn Symbol could be vaguely discerned. As for whether there were any other patterns, it was now impossible to tell.
"No wonder it's called the ' Thorns and Shield Wall Tomb Chamber '," Franca remarked upon seeing it.
Meanwhile, in the dim candlelight, she saw some burial objects placed in the latticework on the inner wall of the Tomb Chamber. Some were made of wood, long since weathered and decayed; others were glass and ceramic vessels, existing in fragments. The only one that remained intact was a Glass Vial, its surface inlaid with openwork patterns resembling gold, and fitted with a uniquely shaped Golden lid. Perhaps it was because of the protection of these metals that the Glass Vial had not shattered, though it appeared grayish and not very transparent.
"It's exquisite, almost like a work of art," Franca remarked, then asked with a puzzled look, "Why didn't the workers who built the Catacombs take it with them?"
This looks quite valuable!
"It's possible that this Tomb Chamber was placed there after the Catacombs were built," Jenna tried to explain.
Without giving it any further thought, Witch took out one of Jenna Substitute Mirror and handed it to Franca.
She leaped across the seemingly quiet but actually Concealment pile of bones, landing as lightly as a feather at the entrance to the "Thorns and Shield Wall Tomb Chamber".
After confirming her surroundings and receiving no spiritual warning, Jenna cautiously approached the grid on the side wall, following the path not covered by the Paleness bones.
She instinctively reached out her right hand, then withdrew it, took an old handkerchief from her pocket, and placed it in her palm to avoid direct contact with the Antique Tear Bottle.
The tears in the bottle had long since dried up.
Jenna examined the tear bottle for a while before putting it away, returning the way she came, and jumping to Franca's side.
"The Commission was completed so easily?" she whispered uncertainly.
This was completely different from the case of the missing Deep Valley Monastery Gatekeeper that she had handled before.
Franca scoffed, "What kind of difficulty do you expect for a 1000- Felkine Commission?"
"That's true. The difficulty lies in whether we have a sufficient understanding of the hidden dangers in the Third Layer of the tomb," Jenna earnestly summarized her experience.
Solo Hotel.
As Lumian, disguised as Louis Berri, entered the front hall, he saw a vibrant brown-haired girl in a long red Long Dress with black patterns dancing gracefully in a corner, occasionally stopping to correct her movements.
A thought struck Lumian, and she walked to the Receptionist, seizing the opportunity to ask, "What is she doing?"
This time, he used Intis language directly.
The Boss, with gray hair, sunburnt cheeks, and a loose white robe, paused for a moment before replying in Intis with Dalege Intis language:
"She is my granddaughter, Isabella, and she is practicing for the ' Dance of the Sea ' performance next month."
"Dance of the Sea"... The "Dance of the Sea" at the Sea-Praying Ritual? Lumian hadn't expected this answer and reflexively laughed, "Won't that make a lot of girls jealous?"
The Boss smiled broadly.
"It's not like she's becoming a ' Sea Maiden,' so not many people will be jealous, but participating in the ' Dance of the Sea ' performance is something that will make her proud and happy for a long time."
As Lumian gestured for Lugano to take Ludwig back to his room, he casually asked the Boss:
"You came from Dalege?"
"Yes, I am a Guillaume," the Boss said with a self-deprecating laugh. "Ota Guillaume, when I saw your Identity Documents this morning, I wanted to greet you in Intis language, but I gave up in the end. You know, being Intis doesn't equal being a good person. Even among my fellow countrymen, I've encountered several low-class individuals."
"How long have you been in Santa Port?" Lumian asked with interest, resting his right elbow on the Receptionist desk.
Old Ota thought about it carefully:
"Forty years, it must have been forty years. Back then, I was a caravan worker. I met my wife here and stayed. Haha, she's become a talkative old lady now. She's always worrying about what to wear when it gets cold, or reminding me to come home for dinner and leave the inn to the other workers. She always arranges everything perfectly, so I don't have to worry about anything. Isn't that wonderful? It's hard to find a woman like that in Dalege."
Lumian listened to old Ota's rambling for a while before getting to the point:
"I came to Santa Port to see the Sea-Praying Ritual at the invitation of a friend."
"It was lively; the whole port was celebrating." Old Ota didn't hold back his praise.
Lumian glanced at Isabella, who was still practicing her dance, and casually remarked, "I heard there was an accident Last Year's Sea-Praying Ritual?"
"No," old Ota replied with a puzzled look, "I watched the Flower Boat Parade, the boat races, and the ' Dance of the Sea,' nothing unexpected happened."
At this point, he frowned and fell into reminiscence:
"However, Sandro did say that the number of Shipwreck had increased significantly this year, there were more encounters with pirates, and the fishing harvest was not as good as Last Year... Was there really an accident at Last Year's Sea-Praying Ritual? Was Night-Watch Ritual, or a problem with the Sea Sacrifice? Did those old guys at the Fishing Guild cover it up?"
"Who is Sandro?" Lumian pressed.
Old Ota smiled again:
"He is my child, Isabella's father. He works as a low-level clerk in the government, and his wife is a grammar school Teacher."
Did the Sea-Praying Ritual at Santa Port really work? Did the protective effect decrease after the April Fool's Day prank? Lumian's mind naturally flashed through some information he had previously obtained:
Of the three "April Fool's Day" fringe members involved in the prank, one commissioned a uniquely designed Gold Ring in Torelle, the capital of the Gaia Province; another was responsible for Bribery the Fishing Guild to deliver a lamb containing the Gold Ring as Sacrifice to the specially made ship used for the Sea Sacrifice; and the third disguised himself as a journalist and followed the Fishing Guild members throughout the entire process, observing and Recording their reactions.
The bewildered, surprised, fearful, and angry reactions of the elderly upon hearing certain news amused the Participant of April Fool's Day for a long time.
Lumian asked a few more questions about the Sea-Praying Ritual, then waved goodbye to Old Ota and headed upstairs to his Suite.
4 PM, Trier, Observatory District, near Inferno Square.
After changing into a Hood Black Robe and painting her face to resemble that of an "Exaggerated Woman," Jenna arrived at a street selling funeral items, following the feedback given by her Commissioner.
Most of the Trier people coming and going are fairly normal, but a small number wear white masks, carry unsharpened sickles, and are dressed in black Robe, pretending to be Messenger of the Undead from Folk Legend, or have white skulls or other objects sewn onto their shoulders, giving them a rather artistic appearance...
Thanks to their presence and Trier's unique aura, Jenna, dressed as Warlock and wearing Hood, went completely unnoticed.
She stopped in the corner and took out the exquisite tear bottle.
Not long after, a person dressed similarly to her stopped in front of her and asked in a hoarse voice, "How much is this tear bottle?"
"1000 Felkine." Jenna suddenly became excited.
This was the first time she had truly completed Commission.
"1001 Felkine." The Warlock -like man raised the price.
Seeing that the code was correct, Jenna "insisted" on only accepting 1000 Felkine.
Once both parties had completed the confirmation, she handed the bottle of tears to the other party, accepted the payment, and left.
A Hood man carrying a bottle of tears walked through the nearby streets, taking nearly fifteen minutes to circle back to Inferno Square, and walked to a bench at the edge.
There was a person sitting there reading a newspaper.
The Hood man handed Past an exquisite teardrop-shaped bottle inlaid with openwork gold patterns, and said in a low voice, "I have completed your Commission. Does that settle the debt I owe you?"
The person sitting on the bench lowered their newspaper and looked up.
He was dressed as a junior office worker, with slightly curly black hair, deep-set Eye Sockets, dark pupils, and thick lips. He wore a Monocle that looked like it was made of Crystal over his right eye.
"Mr. Monet?" the Hood man asked, as if confirming.
Monet took the tear-shaped bottle, gently stroking the gold patterns on its surface, and a slow smile appeared on her lips.
The Solo Hotel, in Suite on the fifth floor.
Lumian didn't go out all afternoon. He sat in his deck chair, swaying back and forth as he continued to learn the Highland Language, occasionally flipping through a travel book introducing the customs and culture of the Kingdom of Feynapotter.
As evening approached, Lugano, who had gone downstairs to chat with someone, returned to his room.
He leaned closer to Lumian and lowered his voice, saying, "Boss, a lady is looking for you."
Upon hearing the word "Madam," Lumian's hair stood on end, and the muscles in his back tensed.
Who is this "lady"?
After a moment's pause, Lumian realized that the "lady" Lugano referred to was a lady in the normal sense, not a "lady" from the supernatural world.
"Which lady is it? What brings you here?" He sat up calmly and asked his translator.
Lugano shook his head and said, "She didn't say, she just said she had something to Commission the famous adventurer Louis Berri."
Lugano emphasized the phrase "famous adventurer".
