Background / History
Bloodline and concealment
Fei Lun is one of Underworld Lord Micteticashiva’s many children. He says that he was not especially outstanding among them, but his ability to become whatever he ate led his mother to choose him as the inheritor of the Book of the Undead 321.
When Micteticashiva fell, the last of her divine power protected him from recognition. He fled, adopted the name Feren, bribed a frontline general, and became an intake officer. Despite this protection, he endured repeated probes, assassination attempts, and dangerous assignments until he was gravely wounded. He later admitted that an attempt to purchase materials for upgrading Undead Resurrection had exposed his identity and nearly killed him 122 134.
Contract with Shen Ye
Shen Ye approached the injured skeleton through his Gate, offering to restore his former vitality in exchange for friendship. Their dealings became a trade contract: calcium tablets helped repair his bones, while a living sacrifice produced much stronger regeneration 3 4 5.
The partnership nearly ended over the Crown of Pale Shadows. Shen Ye accused Big Skeleton of deliberately sending him into a deadly encounter; Big Skeleton explained that a human had a chance of surviving where an undead would certainly die. To preserve the contract, he surrendered a chance to inherit one of his talents—a prize sought by the people keeping him alive. Shen Ye selected the information-gathering option that became Dark Whisper 9 10 32.
After Shen Ye saved him again, Big Skeleton promised to repay him upon recovery. He supplied disguises, weapons, and battlefield intelligence, although he warned that his strongest treasures had already been exhausted 22 27.
Recovery and failed departure
Big Skeleton helped defeat the steel-wire-wielding killer by freeing controlled corpses with Undead Resurrection and burning the enemy with pale flames. Once his body had fully healed, he tried to leave Shen Ye and return to unfinished business among the undead, giving him a storage ring as a farewell keepsake 41 45.
The departure failed. Rather than reveal his true power and invite suspicion, he allowed other undead to dismantle his body. Reduced to a skull again, he explained that his strength remained intact but could not be used normally until his bones regrew. Shen Ye agreed to resume caring for him in the calcium-filled Fish Tank 46.
When human soldiers subsequently accused Shen Ye of treason, Big Skeleton improvised a story about undead capitalists, “996” and “007” work schedules, and a match-selling boy who had shown him kindness. His performance helped Shen Ye’s “Matchstick-Selling Little Boy” epithet flourish 47.
Evernight City and Micteticashiva’s legacy
Big Skeleton gradually abandoned his reluctance to reveal his abilities, acknowledging that Shen Ye had saved him from dying unnoticed in the Shadowy Highlands. He eventually disclosed his bloodline and original name before their journey to Evernight City 96 122.
Micteticashiva’s inheritance instructed him to enter Hell, uncover the truth, identify the enemy’s weakness, and crown himself with its head to become a true Skeleton King. He received an undead-only inheritance crystal capable of providing a comparatively safe route into Hell’s depths 125.
He accompanied Shen Ye to Evernight City by Ghost Train, supplying the soldier’s dog tag that established Shen Ye’s Baxter identity. Later, at Thunder Fortress, he spent a one-use art left by his mother to summon her against the Orc ancestral divine body rather than simply escape 127 128 153.
Spell Spirit partnership and later service
After gathering the necessary materials, Big Skeleton opened a passage to Windfire Hell. His relationship with Shen Ye was still explicitly a fair-trade contract rather than a conventional combat partnership at that stage; later, he became able to benefit directly from Shen Ye’s Dharma Form as his Spell Spirit 184 186 301.
Shen Ye recovered Micteticashiva’s skull from Ymir’s Chasm with his help. Later, using Divine Revelation to reach Evernight City one month in the past, Shen Ye rescued both mother and son from an approaching Parasitic Monster. Micteticashiva subsequently tested Big Skeleton’s accumulated connection to death and sent him into the Saint Skeleton Clan’s advancement trial 273 342 343.
His later work included recruiting a contracted servant for the route into the Immortal Kingdom, carrying the Nightmare World’s collective support to Shen Ye, impersonating Shen Ye at the Duke’s Estate, and serving as a transforming weapon. His latest documented development occurs on the ancient Ten Thousand Races Battlefield, where Peaso grants him access to weirdness while he sleeps off an exceptionally powerful meal 356 393 487 511 638.
Appearance
- Skeletal body: His normal appearance consists of pale bones and soulfire burning in his eye sockets. Severe injuries repeatedly reduce him to a skull or scattered fragments 5 46 265 353.
- Variable size: Can appear as a four- or five-meter skeletal monster or shrink to approximately Shen Ye’s height 188 194.
- Expressive soulfire: Without eyeballs, he conveys meaningful looks by flickering his soulfire and shifting the bones around his sockets 417.
- Transformation traces: Some disguises retain skeletal features, including a skull on a snake’s body and ribs that open like doors 117 323.
- Turtle shell: His giant turtle form has a hard shell used for carrying passengers and blocking attacks 100 285.
Personality
Big Skeleton is proud of his ancestry and former strength, but initially allows that pride to interfere with survival. He hesitates to eat giant meat or rely on humans to resolve undead affairs, then gradually accepts that status is useless if he dies. His concealed identity also makes him wary of displaying his true power 46 77 120.
He develops into a loyal, practical companion who guards Shen Ye while he recovers, helps him train, and intervenes even when injured himself. He explicitly links Shen Ye’s growing strength to their shared chances of survival. He also admires Shen Ye’s persistence, while regularly urging him away from enemies they cannot defeat 194 200 205 250 341.
Food is his most reliable incentive. He demands crayfish after being injured in training, reverses his refusal to serve as a surfing mount when promised elaborate meals, and becomes indignant when a request for “premium goods” produces companions instead of dinner. His enthusiasm coexists with occasional laziness: a visit home to obtain materials turns into an extended holiday 194 205 460 511.
His courage is not absolute. Ymir’s immunity to undead spells frightens him into calling the corpse a ghost, and he sometimes boasts far beyond Shen Ye’s confidence in him. Nevertheless, he willingly spends his mother’s irreplaceable protection to oppose the Orcs, declaring that their world must not adopt “996” 153 273 313.
Abilities & Skills
Consumption-Based Transformation
His rare Talent Ability allows him to become what he eats—the principal reason Micteticashiva selected him as her successor 321 407.
- Recorded forms: Skeletal giant, giant turtle, one-horned skeletal snake, warhorse, flying dragon, eerie amusement-park worker, black shadow figure, and Emperor Species Cosmic Insect 100 320 322 323 335 424.
- Infiltration: Eating eerie beings allows him to pass among their kind without immediately drawing attacks 322 323.
- Passenger concealment: Can open his ribs and carry someone inside his hollow body while disguised 323 335.
- Impersonation: A single hair lets him copy Shen Ye’s appearance for less than a day 511.
- Selective consumption: Avoids Quru’s two heads specifically to prevent becoming a multiheaded creature 186.
- Limits: Copying an Emperor Species does not automatically grant its immense power, racial inheritance, or Darkness Devourer Profession Skills 335.
- Digestion: Extremely powerful food can overwhelm him and require sleep to process 638.
Undead Foodie
A Dharma Realm-recognized trait obtained after eating a spike from a monster 426.
- Increases the rate at which his strength grows according to the quality of what he eats.
- Expands his diet to include plants 426.
Undead Resurrection
An undead spell used to animate corpses and release them from another controller’s influence 41.
- Corpse liberation: Frees the bodies throughout an entire building from a steel-wire manipulator 41.
- Self-resurrection: Its limit-breaking form establishes a black gravestone from which he can return after death 393.
- Recovery time: Revival is not instantaneous; his gravestone must gather soulfire before he returns 434.
- Known failure: Cannot animate Ymir’s corpse, despite a completed incantation 273.
Skeletal Regeneration
His bones can recover through nourishment, calcium supplements, and absorbed power 4 5 118.
- Can survive as a detached skull with his power sealed inside it 46.
- Early in the story, states that his dismantled body must grow new bones rather than simply be put back together 46.
- Body loss does not necessarily erase his accumulated strength 77.
- Excessive power intake can destroy his body, as occurs while absorbing Shen Ye’s Emperor Species power 265.
Defense and Close Combat
Uses transforming bones, undead power, and conjured skeletal defenses 194 200 285.
- Pale flames: Block incoming steel wires and can burn away much of an enemy’s body in a sword strike 41.
- White Bone Great Shield: Protects Shen Ye from the Skinner’s steel-wire assault even while Big Skeleton is confined to the Fish Tank 200.
- Turtle defense: Uses his shell to block attacks, spin around Shen Ye, and knock away attacking insects 285 316.
- Bone-tail attacks: Extends a tail during close combat to strike through gaps in an opponent’s assault 194.
- Training: Can spar using basic punches and kicks to help Shen Ye refine his techniques 194.
Spell Spirit and Weapon Forms
His transformations benefit from Shen Ye’s Dharma Form and later include living weapon forms 301 487.
- Can combine his transformations with the Four Kings’ Legendary power to produce new skills 313.
- Can function as an extension of Shen Ye’s Dharma Form, helping eject a hostile cocoon onto Terminus Star 341.
- Uses the Truth Contract to summon Shen Ye as the Human Race’s ancient hero, Peppa, temporarily reversing their usual summoner–Spell Spirit roles 460.
- Incorporates consumed toxins into his body and helps poison a dragon from within before becoming part of the blade used to escape it 472.
- Reaches a Truth-level saber form and can receive infusions of undead elements while transformed into a weapon 487 532.
- Cannot freely cross a closed world barrier by himself; he sometimes requires Shen Ye or another Gate user to provide passage 423 487.
Knowledge, Communication, and Support
His battlefield work gives him practical knowledge of equipment, identities, undead society, and supernatural threats 22 26 127.
- Telepathy: Communicates privately with Shen Ye, including directly through their contract 22 468.
- Military supplies: Provides undead disguises, damaged human equipment, bows, arrows, and battlefield intelligence 22 26 27 118.
- Supernatural guidance: Identifies an Otherworldly God, explains gods and Spell Spirits, and recognizes earthbound spirits 96 153 499.
- Soul perception: Detects that Ymir’s soul remains calm despite Dark Whisper invoking Hell’s torment 273.
- Language transfer: Places common written and spoken language into a Nightmare Crystal for Shen Ye 317.
- Contract administration: Establishes binding agreements that make a recruit the organization’s servant 356.
- Neutral roles: Can fill vacant support positions in the Primordial Ruins, including trader, gambler, and escort-mission character 417 420.

- He initially breaks a tooth trying to bite a turtle, but later repeatedly becomes a giant skeletal turtle himself 22 96.
