Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Qi Refining, First Layer 1 Starting cultivation. Poor spiritual roots and limited resources had kept his progress minimal despite years of practice.
Qi Refining, Second Layer 1 Claimed cultivation from his first simulation, immediately breaking through in reality.
Qi Refining, Fourth Layer 2 Selected the second simulation’s cultivation reward. His qi blades became combat-capable, and his body grew substantially stronger.
Qi Refining, Seventh Layer 3 Claimed another cultivation reward, including the realm’s marrow-cleansing effect.
Third-grade Wood Spiritual Root 7 Chose spiritual-root aptitude over Ninth Layer cultivation. Became able to sense ambient spiritual energy for the first time.
Spring Renewal Art: basic mastery 8 Mastered the basics in one night with his new wood root; gained the ability to cultivate without spirit stones.
Qi Refining, Ninth Layer 10 Claimed a simulation reward, expanding his dantian to its limit and preparing him for Foundation Establishment.
Seven cloud patterns 14 Chose simulated cloud patterns instead of early-stage Foundation Establishment cultivation.
First-grade Wood Spiritual Root 16 Claimed an aptitude reward. Could passively absorb wood spiritual energy and had room to condense additional cloud patterns.
Foundation Establishment with nine cloud patterns 16 Selected nine cloud patterns; the resulting transformation established his foundation and formed wood-attribute true essence without a Foundation Establishment Pill.
Foundation Establishment, Middle Stage; sword intent 23 Advanced naturally while assimilating a first-person simulation and practicing the Yi Wood Sword Art. Condensed sword intent uniquely his own.
Further wood-root improvement 36 Rejected a killing-intent golden core in favor of improving his wood spiritual root. The resulting grade is not specified.
Foundation Establishment, Late Stage 37 Claimed cultivation after a failed simulation. Shi Haoyan subsequently verified his strong foundation and nine cloud patterns.
Core Formation; thunder sword core 43 44 Li Changge’s inheritance forced him to condense a sword core. Heavenly lightning fractured it before stronger sword intent reassembled it; his spiritual roots became thunder-attributed, leaving only a tiny trace of his wood root.
Control of the thunder sword core 48 49 Watching Li Changge confront heavenly tribulation broadened his understanding. He stopped forcibly suppressing the inherited sword intent and regained control of his core.
Core Formation, Middle Stage 56 Explicitly identified at this realm when confronting Wu Chuan’s accusations; he does not consider the Nine Immortals Sect elder’s inferior Nascent Soul particularly threatening.
Purified soul and Sword Light Division 71 Completes an inheritance designed by his simulated future self. Divides the Greenwood Sword’s light into more than ten independently maneuvering streaks while still at Core Formation.
Nascent Soul; fourfold heavenly tribulation 74 76 83 Breaks his sword core during enlightenment and achieves Nascent Soul. Cleaves through four rounds of tribulation lightning and stabilizes his cultivation afterward.
Star-thunder sword nascent soul 83 Combines Astral Force, lightning, and sword light, producing attacks far stronger than a simple addition of the three powers.
Nascent Soul Peak 94 Sudden enlightenment while cultivating with the reforged Greenwood Sword brings his nascent soul to its peak, approaching Spirit Transformation.
Spirit Transformation; super first-grade thunder spiritual root 96 98 Completes a ninefold lightning tribulation. Can summon heavenly thunder through divine sense and becomes a Spirit Transformation Ancestor of the Setting Sun Sect.
Body Tempering: Meridian Birth Peak 112 Refines demon king blood into Qi-Blood Pills. Deliberately postpones Heavenly Gang to reinforce his foundation.
Body Tempering: Middle, then Late Inner Landscape; Late Spirit Transformation 115 Qi-Blood Pills first bring his body to Middle Inner Landscape. A cultivation reward raises his primordial-spirit realm to Late Spirit Transformation; further refinement advances his body to Late Inner Landscape.
Void Refinement, Middle Stage; Qi-Blood Transformation into Thunder 128 Reaches Middle Void Refinement and awakens a physical innate divine ability that forms a hundred-li thundercloud and allows lightning-speed movement within it.
Void Refinement, Late Stage 130 Claims a cultivation reward, completing his second breakthrough within half a year.
Late Void Refinement: further improvement 133 Creating a technique produces an insight that advances his cultivation another small step toward the realm’s peak.
Flesh Realm: Spirit Connection Peak 143 A supreme-grade Qi-Blood Pill refined from Heavenly Demon Blood Essence greatly strengthens his body. His thundercloud movement range expands to five hundred miles.
Myriad Knowledge Immortal-Congealing Art 153 Claims the cultivation art and begins integrating dozens of legendary Dao patterns into his primordial spirit.
Forty-nine legendary Dao patterns; preliminary immortal power 154 After nearly forty repetitions over thirty-odd years, completes forty-nine legendary Dao patterns. Condenses immortal power without first passing through the conventional Tribulation Transcendence stage, but still requires heavenly tribulation to become a complete Mahayana cultivator.
Mahayana 157 158 Perfects his primordial spirit and withstands heavenly tribulation, converting its lightning into immortal essence. His Mahayana body is already more than halfway complete afterward.
Mahayana, Late Stage 161 Forty years of cultivation convert all his remaining true essence into immortal essence.
Mahayana Peak 163 Refines and links several thousand earth veins into a Domain Formation over less than a century, further perfecting his immortal essence.
Origin Immortal 170 171 Opens the sealed Heavenly Gate and enters the Immortal Realm. Immortal qi transforms his life essence, body, and primordial spirit.
Origin Immortal, Fourth Stage 177 His immortal power increases substantially; his efficiency in condensing Immortal Essence Stones exceeds that of ordinary immortals at the same stage.
Origin Immortal, Ninth Stage 188 194 Reaches the upper limit of Origin Immortal before using the Great Wilderness Essence Suppression Art for his breakthrough.
True Immortal breakthrough; Third Level after seclusion 193 194 195 Uses repeated simulations to prepare for the dangerous essence-suppression technique. His breakthrough phenomenon spreads his fame across Seven Star Island; he emerges from seclusion at True Immortal Third Level.
Flesh attains immortality 202 His body becomes nearly comparable to a low-grade immortal artifact and far more capable of bearing immortal essence, increasing the power available to his primordial spirit.
Essence-Binding Art and Heaven and Earth Shift 205 Conceals his cultivation as True Immortal First Level and learns to tear open space to move several dozen li.
True Immortal, Fifth Stage 207 Assesses his ordinary combat capacity as approximately True Immortal Seventh Stage; simulation results demonstrate the further value of his concealment and spatial movement arts.
Thick Earth Golden Body Art: initial mastery 219 Begins a flesh-cultivation technique compatible with his Skylord Art, strengthening his already treasure-like body.
Flesh Realm: Origin Immortal Ninth Stage, then True Immortal 221 Absorbs two years’ worth of thick-earth aura from a reward, then breaks through through cultivation in a Small World occupied by Purple Cloud Mountain.
Heavenly Immortal, Eighth Stage 228 Claims cultivation directly from a simulation reward and completes its assimilation after another half month.
Flesh Realm: Heavenly Immortal, Seventh Layer 250 Receives a large advancement in stages, spending more than ten years stabilizing the first four-layer increase before resuming distribution of the remaining reward.
Heavenly Immortal peak in both body and primordial spirit 253 Both cultivation paths reach their current limits. His body can crush Heavenly Immortal Magic Artifacts, though his equipment and spell arts still lag behind his realm.
Golden Immortal; Third Layer 269 270 Breaks through through comprehension of the Space Great Dao and undergoes a spatially aspected tribulation. Refuses the subsequent gift that would merge his flesh cultivation into his primordial-spirit path.
Flesh Realm: Golden Immortal First through Third Layers 289 290 Annihilates Zhu Lu’s flesh and blood while comprehending Destruction Dao patterns, transforming his body and forming a Flower of Destruction on his left arm.
Golden Immortal, Fourth Layer in both paths 290 A century of assimilation produces a second Flower of Destruction and raises his flesh realm to the fourth layer, catching up with his primordial spirit.
Multiple Great Daos at Golden Immortal Ninth Layer 377 Over five thousand years and more than twenty simulations, raises Life, Destruction, Time, Space, and Music to the ninth layer. Life and Death and Space-Time also approach the realm’s bottleneck.
Tianyan Pearl fully refined as a life-bound treasure 401 Completes a thousand years of nurturing and unlocks all permissions of the pearl’s true body. Learns that cultivation rewards are supplied through stolen Heaven and Earth Origin.
Taiyi; further minor-realm advancement 406 Already a Taiyi cultivator, he assimilates insights from Great Dao fragments extracted from dozens of Small Worlds and breaks through again after three hundred years.
Taiyi, Middle Stage 413 Advances two minor realms in three hundred years, but remains below the Late Taiyi cultivation attained by his simulated self.
Taiyi, Late Stage, nearing the peak 414 Repeated simulations rapidly advance his cultivation until he needs additional Origin Crystals to continue.
Fusion Great Dao; Half-Step Immortal Venerable-level laws 446 Following his journey to the Bottom of the Abyss, judges his Law Realm comparable to veteran Half-Step Immortal Venerables and his combat strength likely greater. Can now slay Abyss Great Overlords at will.
Daluo bottleneck 485 Crossing the chaotic void and subsequent seclusion advance his Space-Time Great Dao and bring him to the bottleneck of attaining Daluo.
Daluo; subsequent world-creation advancement 543 Identified alongside Tianyuan as one of the two Daluo who reshaped the Heavenly Dao Painting. Uses World-Creation Merit to destroy Taiyi Dao Lord and emerges as the supreme existence of the newborn world. Dissolving his remaining karma with Tianyuan raises his cultivation a little further.

Background / History

Xu Changxing had lived in the cultivation world for roughly a decade when the story began. He grew from a small child into a half-grown boy while selling medicinal herbs in Kettle Bell Town. His savings eventually bought a rudimentary qi-refining method, but his weak, mixed spiritual roots and lack of cultivation resources left him at the First Layer 1.

A customer’s purchase of his herbs for twenty low-grade spirit stones briefly improved his circumstances, but Gao Teng and his men targeted his savings. Activating the Life Simulation System revealed that fleeing would end with his capture and sale to the Yin Corpse Sect, where he would be refined into a puppet. Another simulated attempt at submission also ended in death 1 2.

After claiming enough rewards to reach the Seventh Layer, Xu Changxing waited rather than seeking Gao Teng out. When Gao Teng attacked his hut with attendants and three Corpse Yin, Xu Changxing destroyed them and killed the attackers—his first actual killings. He looted their possessions and left the market for territory near the Setting Sun Sect 3.

His original aptitude consisted of more than a dozen weak spiritual roots, including water, wind, ice, metal, lightning, and star. Only his wind root barely reached seventh grade; most were eighth or ninth grade. Despite their number, he lacked a complete set of the five elemental roots and initially had no wood root suitable for the Spring Renewal Art 6.

Much later, Immortal Venerable Wuyou reveals that his remembered mortal life was not his only previous existence. After transmigrating from Blue Star, Xu Changxing had first become the true spirit born within the Heavenly Dao Painting, which Taiyi Dao Lord had created by copying the Immortal Realm’s Great Dao. His creator regarded him as a potential guiding light through the Final Tribulation 526.

From Wuyou’s account, Xu Changxing reconstructs that this earlier self worked with Tianyuan, erased the memories of that existence, reincarnated as a lowly mortal cultivator, and placed the Tianyan Pearl Projection in his own sea of consciousness. He suspects his past self also participated in the pearl’s refinement. He later concludes that his previous use of the Gate of Samsara to reverse space-time was intended to escape Taiyi Dao Lord’s control, but explicitly states that he has not recovered those past-life memories 526 540.

Appearance

  • Initially described as a half-grown boy with a bruised, swollen face after being bullied 1.
  • Wore hemp clothing during his early stay near the cultivators’ market. By then, his Seventh Layer cultivation and third-grade wood root gave him a bearing noticeably beyond that of an ordinary person 8.
  • After attaining immortality in the flesh, his arm is described as jade-like; a sword-light test leaves only a white mark upon it 202.
  • His Golden Immortal flesh cultivation produces Destruction Dao patterns and a Flower of Destruction on each arm 290.
  • At the end of the old cycle, transforms into a young Daoist before departing to travel through the newborn worlds 543.

Personality

Xu Changxing initially prioritizes survival, preparation, and avoiding unnecessary risks. He tests dangerous opportunities through simulations, declines to confront the sealed demon at the ruined temple, and conceals the full extent of his foundation even from Liu Chenyu. He recognizes that seemingly minor changes can make reality diverge from a simulated future 5 8 17.

He is resource-conscious and habitually measures opportunities in spirit stones and potential simulations. He sells pills to finance the system, briefly wonders how many simulations his new defensive artifact could fund, and repeatedly requests spirit stones instead of other rewards 8 12 39 49.

Experiencing his simulated sect’s destruction changes his priorities. He resolves to complete his simulated self’s unfinished struggle, shifts from hiding indefinitely to steadily pursuing immortality, and develops a stronger attachment to the Setting Sun Sect. His growing sword intent also encourages him to win openly rather than rely entirely on defensive precautions 22 24 29 34.

His experience of two lives and repeated simulated deaths makes him difficult to unsettle. Ye Hong’s attempt to disturb him with sect politics instead strengthens his determination to defeat Ye Hong fairly 30.

His preference for preparation persists in the Immortal Realm. Before attempting the Great Wilderness Essence Suppression Art, he runs more than thirty simulations to observe and learn to survive its possible mishaps. He also deliberately preserves the independence of his flesh cultivation rather than accepting a convenient Golden Immortal enhancement that would restrict its future possibilities 193 270.

He remains understated despite his growing power. When Li Changge remarks that he expected him to become more ostentatious after breaking the world’s shackles, Xu Changxing attributes his achievements to circumstances and opportunities rather than claiming personal superiority 424.

His caution develops into calculated control of large conflicts. He initially restrains his strength against Immortal Lord Zihao, then kills him in three breaths to intimidate the Myriad Immortals Alliance’s reinforcements, deliberately avoiding the wider war that an earlier simulation had shown him 482.

He also values freedom and recognizes the limits of relentless cultivation. After reaching the Heavenly Immortal limits in both paths, he acknowledges his weariness with spending most of his life in seclusion and chooses to rest. His refusal to remain under Taiyi Dao Lord’s control ultimately becomes central to his final struggle 253 540.

Abilities & Skills

Life Simulation System

  • Spends system points, replenished with spirit stones, to explore possible future lives 1 6.
  • Selects one offered reward after a simulation, including cultivation, spiritual roots, techniques, cloud patterns, first-person footage, or unusual inheritances 7 14 20 42.
  • Uses simulated outcomes to investigate threats, identify recruitment opportunities, and compare cultivation paths 4 6 10 36.
  • Can study first-person footage at different playback speeds. Replayed battles convey both spell fluctuations and the circulation of his simulated body’s true essence 22.
  • Simulation costs rise with cultivation: documented costs include eight points at the Fourth Layer, sixty-four at the Seventh Layer, and one thousand after Foundation Establishment 2 3 16.
  • Simulated events are not fixed predictions. Different decisions can change encounters or accelerate major threats, including the Yin Corpse Sect Old Devil’s revival 4 17 36.
  • Inheritance rewards can consume substantial time in reality. The trial completed in Chapter 71 takes more than two months, confirming that the earlier apparent time loss was not an isolated concern 49 71.
  • Special simulations allow a strand of divine sense to operate in parallel planes. Spreading his name can strengthen his connection to that divine sense and permit the transmission of a portion of his power 101 134.
  • Legendary deeds and accumulated reputation can condense legendary Dao patterns, which he integrates into his primordial spirit 134 153 154.
  • Later uses Immortal Essence Stones and Origin Crystals to support simulations. One special simulation as a Golden Immortal costs eight Origin Crystals; a later Taiyi simulation requires more than thirty thousand 193 276 413.
  • The system is connected to the Tianyan Pearl Projection. After fully refining the actual Tianyan Pearl, he learns that its cultivation rewards are Heaven and Earth Origin rather than cultivation directly taken from his simulated selves 153 305 401.
  • The pearl’s rewards have limits: an influx of immortal essence does not automatically perform the specialized compression required by the Great Wilderness Essence Suppression Art, and the benefits of a given amount of Heaven and Earth Origin diminish as his realm rises 188 401.

Spring Renewal Art

  • A wood-attribute cultivation art acquired as a simulation reward 6.
  • Requires a wood spiritual root, but can use wood-attribute treasures to generate wood true essence and gradually nurture a root up to fifth grade 6.
  • With his third-grade root, spirit-stone cultivation became more than three times as efficient as before. Ambient-energy cultivation operated at roughly twenty to thirty percent of his spirit-stone cultivation rate 8.
  • His third-grade root also made his wood spells at least twice as powerful as those of cultivators with wood roots in the lower three grades 8.
  • Offered the art to the Setting Sun Sect by transcribing it onto a jade slip 32.

Cloudglow Reflecting Immortal Art

  • Taught by Liu Chenyu to strengthen his foundation before Foundation Establishment 12.
  • Condensed nine cloud patterns, exceeding Li Changge’s seven and Zhou Lechi’s five 12 16.
  • His nine-pattern foundation granted exceptionally precise control of wood true essence 16.
  • Kept the patterns concealed initially; Shi Haoyan later identified them directly 17 37.

Yi Wood Sword Art and Sword Intent

  • Received the Yi Wood Sword Art and a Sword Pellet from Li Changge, then mastered the art through simulation footage and sustained practice 18 22 23.
  • Controls the Greenwood Sword remotely, cutting through talisman formations and Dragon-Locking chains 25.
  • Defeated Han Mingguan without moving from his original position and shattered four of Ye Hong’s artifacts with one strike 27 34.
  • Can fly on his sword after condensing sword intent, though at Foundation Establishment he could not yet split his sword light 23.
  • Uses sword intent to suppress violent medicinal effects and place protective restrictions inside jade slips 32 33.
  • Masters Sword Light Division while still at Core Formation, dividing the Greenwood Sword’s light into more than ten streaks and directing them through his small cottage without striking its contents 71.
  • An inheritance from his future simulated self repeatedly strikes his soul with a Light Sword, purifying it and cultivating a clear soul and sword heart. He eventually shatters the Greenwood Sword Projection with a finger 71.
  • His star-thunder sword nascent soul fuses Astral Force, lightning, and sword light into an exceptionally powerful attack 83.
  • Later cleaves through the ninefold Spirit Transformation tribulation and helps Li Changge break the world’s restraints by lending him the Greenwood Sword 98 170.

Thunder Sword Core

  • Combines sword intent with heavenly lightning; its precise core quality remains unidentified 43 44.
  • Can release lightning from his dantian. A casually produced bolt pierced his cottage roof and reached the clouds 44.
  • Senses thunder spiritual energy over nearly a hundred li and draws it toward himself intensely enough to form a vortex 44.
  • Uses lightning alongside flying-sword attacks, including bolts from an overhead thundercloud during his exchange with Li Changge 46.
  • Initially struggled to restrain its sword intent, fearing an accidental lethal strike against Han Mingguan. His later insight resolved the need for constant suppression 45 48 49.
  • The core is subsequently broken during his Nascent Soul breakthrough, superseding it as his active cultivation foundation 74 76.
  • At Spirit Transformation, his super first-grade thunder spiritual root allows him to summon heavenly thunder with divine sense. He nevertheless prioritizes further sword development over studying a broad range of thunder techniques 98.

Body Cultivation and Qi-Blood Transformation into Thunder

  • Uses demon king blood and Heavenly Demon Blood Essence to refine Qi-Blood Pills, developing his body alongside his primordial spirit 112 115 143.
  • His Qi-Blood Transformation into Thunder innate divine ability combines blood energy and lightning into a thundercloud, within which he can move as a lightning bolt. Its initial hundred-li range permits movement across dozens of li almost instantly 128.
  • By Spirit Connection Peak, the thundercloud covers five hundred miles, allowing movements of two hundred and fifty miles at a time and repeated escapes from a Heavenly Demon’s pursuit 143.
  • Attaining immortality in the flesh greatly reduces the body’s obstruction of his primordial spirit and increases its capacity to bear immortal essence by a hundredfold 202.
  • Cultivates the Thick Earth Golden Body Art, a technique compatible with his Skylord Art whose higher levels can permit physical destruction of stars 219.
  • Preserves his physical path’s independence at the Golden Immortal breakthrough, enabling his body to pursue the Way of Destruction separately from his primordial spirit’s spatial cultivation 270 290.

Myriad Knowledge Immortal-Congealing Art

  • Obtains the art through simulation and uses legendary Dao patterns to strengthen his primordial spirit 153.
  • Holds his cultivation at Void Refinement until he has integrated forty-nine legendary Dao patterns, allowing immortal power to form before he undergoes the tribulation needed to complete Mahayana 154.
  • Gradually transforms his body into an immortal spirit body while concentrating and strengthening its qi and blood 154.
  • Contains the Great Dao of Fate, though his early comprehension of that Dao and talent for divination are limited 240.
  • Later gains occasional premonitions after using the stars to reflect his own bloodline, including a vision of Li Changge’s impending True Immortal breakthrough 261.

Immortal Arts and Great Daos

  • Great Wilderness Essence Suppression Art: Uses a dangerous essence-compression method in preparation for his True Immortal breakthrough. Repeated simulations allow him to study and reduce its risks 184 193 194.
  • Essence-Binding Art: Conceals his actual cultivation as True Immortal First Level well enough that Bu Yufeng cannot see through it at the apprenticeship ceremony 205.
  • Heaven and Earth Shift: Tears space open through the primordial spirit to travel several dozen li. His prior planar travel and lightning-based innate ability make the art comparatively easy for him to learn 205.
  • Space Great Dao: The foundation of his Golden Immortal breakthrough; later allows him to create shattered spaces, evade seals, and construct spatial killing formations 269 289 438.
  • Way of Destruction: Develops through assimilating Zhu Lu’s Destruction Dao patterns. Ultimately produces a physical Way of Destruction unique to him and allows him to withstand the Abyssal Rule that previously suppressed him 290.
  • Great Dao of Music: Integrates other Daos into music, including alchemy. By the Golden Immortal limits, he has incorporated more than a hundred Daos into it 330 377.
  • Life, Time, Life and Death, and Space-Time: Develops these alongside his other Great Daos through repeated simulations. Space-Time assists his passage through chaotic void storms, while Life Laws allow recovery from lingering Thunder Punishment after his battle with Tian Ge Patriarch 377 485 510.
  • Great Dao of Fusion: His attainments after visiting the Bottom of the Abyss raise his Law Realm to a level he judges comparable to Half-Step Immortal Venerables, with potentially superior combat strength 446.
  • Chaos comprehension: Deciphers Dao patterns projected by the Tianyan Pearl and refines a method for studying the Great Dao of Chaos 463.

World Creation and Restoration

  • Establishes a Grotto-Heaven at the Bottom of the Abyss and helps Li Changge expand it to several thousand li by killing nearby Abyss Overlords and awakening its laws 448 463.
  • Can cross multiple Abyss layers without using their normal entrances and exits, greatly accelerating travel 447.
  • Uses the Heavenly Dao Painting and the Abyss’s laws to summon Thunder Punishment and a Laws Storm, trapping Tian Ge Patriarch in chaotic Space-Time and Life and Death Laws. A barrier formed from the Grotto-Heaven’s Great Dao Laws blocks the Daluo’s final attack 510.
  • Works with Tianyuan to reshape the Heavenly Dao Painting and escape Taiyi Dao Lord’s control 543.
  • Forges swords from World-Creation Merit to destroy Taiyi Dao Lord. After new worlds begin nurturing life, releases tens of thousands of preserved true spirits, rebuilds Li Changge’s body, and restores other surviving immortals 543.

Other Skills

  • Condense Qi into Gang: Creates cutting qi blades; used to kill Gao Teng and his attendants 2 3.
  • Talisman drawing: Prepared talismans while adjusting to cultivation rewards and used one-handed talisman drawing to withstand Han Mingguan’s barrage 3 10 27.
  • Treasure gathering: Collected hundreds of spirit fruits in the Secret Realm. He attributed his unusually large harvest to his sensitivity to wood-attribute treasures 39.
  • Market experience: More than a decade of stallkeeping gave him familiarity with herb trading, pill prices, and rumors about sealed demons and their treasures 1 5 8.
  • Alchemy: Develops from refining Qi-Blood Pills to producing immortal pills. Successfully refines a Phoenix Fire Returning Immortal Pill after obtaining an Immortal-Grade Alchemy Furnace, and later earns Origin Crystals by producing Ageless Golden Cores 112 186 276.
  • Sword forging: Retempers and later reforges the Greenwood Sword, using high-quality materials and the Heavenly-Rank Earthfire Furnace 64 65 94.
  • Tea preparation: Initially learns tea-making to present a calm attitude to Xia Shanyang. As a True Immortal, uses an ancient recipe to roast top-grade immortal tea for guests 10 195.
  • Teaching and legacy transmission: Leaves sword and body cultivation legacies to the Setting Sun Sect and publicly explains the basics of Void Refinement before his first ascension 123.

Relationships

  • Liu Chenyu — Master. Accepts him as his third disciple, provides techniques and resources, protects his right to keep his cultivation art private, and rewards his contribution to Li Changge’s breakthrough. Xu Changxing continues to identify himself as Liu Chenyu’s third disciple despite others treating him as a reincarnated predecessor, and speaks with him before ascending 12 17 32 49 73 123.
  • Li Changge — Eldest senior brother, sword-art benefactor, and source of the inheritance obtained through the system. Their real-world exchange helps Li Changge find the path to Nascent Soul. Their bond continues through successive ascensions: Xu Changxing welcomes him to the upper realm, lends him the Greenwood Sword, rescues his disciple Jiang Yao, and later helps him expand their Abyss Grotto-Heaven. Rebuilds Li Changge’s body after the Final Tribulation 18 42 45 48 161 170 424 463 543.
  • Zhou Lechi — Second senior brother; condensed five cloud patterns. Xu Changxing postpones sparring with him until his newly formed core is stable 12 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Joining the Setting Sun Sect

After improving his spiritual roots, Xu Changxing settles near the sect and pursues Xia Shanyang’s recommendation. Rather than continue hiding his origins, he admits that he grew up in Yin Corpse Sect territory and reveals his third-grade wood root. His background withstands scrutiny, and Liu Chenyu personally accepts him as a disciple 7 10 11 12.

Sect Grand Competition

Xu Changxing enters the competition to test combat experience gained through simulations. He defeats Han Mingguan and Ye Hong, offers the Spring Renewal Art to the sect after attracting attention, and receives ten thousand merit points. He wins every remaining match, defeats Han Mingguan again after the losers’ bracket, and takes the defensive robe awarded for first place 23 27 32 34.

Preventing the Sect’s Destruction

Repeated simulations reveal the Setting Sun Sect’s destruction and the Yin Corpse Sect’s plan to revive an Old Devil. Simulated attempts at escape, direct confrontation, and organizing righteous sects all fail in different ways. One simulated Nascent Soul lifetime earns him the Divine Sword Phantom, but he does not claim Nascent Soul cultivation in reality 7 16 20 36 37.

After achieving Nascent Soul in reality, he prepares to join Li Changge in assisting the Star Cloud Sect against the Yin Corpse Sect. His simulations expose additional complications, including Bai Yuanju’s hostility and the difficulty of preventing the revived Old Devil’s escape. His subsequent Spirit Transformation breakthrough changes the regional balance: demonic sects rein in their forces, and competing factions withdraw from former Yin Corpse Sect territory, leaving the Setting Sun Sect to take control 79 83 98.

Secret Realm Expedition

Xu Changxing accompanies Shi Haoyan and Liu Chenyu into a Secret Realm whose vitality conceals pervasive killing intent. Seeing it personally leads him to connect its influence with the Slaughter Nascent Souls formed in earlier simulations. He avoids uncovering its hidden core, preserving his freedom near Liu Chenyu, and leaves his large harvest with his master to refine and exchange for spirit stones 38 39.

Sword Inheritance and Core Formation

Rejecting an ordinary first-grade golden core, Xu Changxing selects a rare sword inheritance instead. Inside it, a conscious remnant of Li Changge subjects him to repeated thundercloud trials before transmitting the sword intent of a strike against the heavens. The inheritance produces his thunder sword core 40 42 43 44.

His subsequent exchange with the living Li Changge culminates in Li Changge’s Nascent Soul breakthrough. Xu Changxing gains control of his own sword intent, while sect elders speculate that he is a reincarnated predecessor. He also notices that the inheritance may have consumed a month in reality, raising unanswered questions about its relationship to the simulations 45 46 48 49.

A later inheritance from his simulated future self purifies his soul and sharpens his sword heart. He masters Sword Light Division at Core Formation and discovers that more than two months have passed during the trial. Continuing to assimilate sword insights eventually breaks his core and brings him into Nascent Soul, where he survives fourfold tribulation lightning 71 74 76.

Spirit Transformation and First Ascension

Xu Changxing reforges the Greenwood Sword using the Heavenly-Rank Earthfire Furnace, then receives a cave abode and ancestor’s identity pendant from Shi Haoyan. Cultivation with the sword triggers sudden enlightenment, bringing his nascent soul to the peak before his Spirit Transformation tribulation 94.

His ninefold tribulation and subsequent consolidation establish him as a dominant figure in the region. Alongside sword and primordial-spirit cultivation, he begins developing his body through Qi-Blood Pills refined from demon king blood 96 98 112 115.

Before ascending, he leaves sword and body cultivation legacies in his cave abode and gives Shi Haoyan a jade slip of insights. Three days later, before witnesses from many sects, he explains that Void Refinement lies above Spirit Transformation and urges listeners to comprehend that path before ascending. He cleaves the thunderclouds and departs, inspiring epiphanies among the assembled Spirit Transformation cultivators 123.

Demon Realm and the Path to Mahayana

In the upper realm, Xu Changxing advances through Void Refinement while developing Qi-Blood Transformation into Thunder. He avoids attracting excessive attention from Heavenly Demons by traveling between widely separated Demon King territories rather than repeatedly killing neighboring rulers 128 130 133.

Special simulations allow him to investigate parallel worlds, nurture human descendants, and use legendary reputation to strengthen his primordial spirit. His actual body survives conflict with the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox, and refining Heavenly Demon Blood Essence greatly advances his flesh realm 134 137 143.

The Tianyan Sect’s secret realm and Tian Zhu become central to his search for higher cultivation. Simulation footage shows that even an extensively prepared parallel self cannot overcome Tian Zhu, but the rewards yield the Myriad Knowledge Immortal-Congealing Art. Through repeated legendary returns, he integrates forty-nine Dao patterns, develops immortal power, and eventually completes the heavenly tribulation required for Mahayana 152 153 154 157 158.

Xu Changxing then cultivates in reality when simulations no longer offer an immediate shortcut. He welcomes Li Changge’s ascension, completes a Domain Formation linking several thousand earth veins, and reaches Mahayana Peak. After further dealings with the Tianyan Sect ruins and careful nurturing of the Greenwood Sword, he opens the Heavenly Gate and enters the Immortal Realm as an Origin Immortal 161 163 165 169 170 171.

Seven Star Island and Immortal Cultivation

In the Immortal Realm, Xu Changxing uses alchemy to fund cultivation and simulations. His production of Phoenix Fire Returning Immortal Pills draws hostility from Liu Cheng, whose attack he repels; Yang Shu later visits to apologize on Seven Star Island’s behalf 186 187 188.

He prepares for True Immortal through the Great Wilderness Essence Suppression Art, using more than thirty simulations to study its dangers. The resulting breakthrough phenomenon makes him famous across Seven Star Island. His later apprenticeship ceremony establishes him as a second-generation ancestral master, while the Essence-Binding Art conceals his actual realm 193 194 195 205.

His cultivation develops amid conflicts involving Purple Cloud Mountain, Xuanqiu Valley, and Hundred Calamities Valley. In reality, he enters an enemy-occupied Small World to complete his True Immortal flesh breakthrough, defeats an Origin Demon, and escapes a pursuing True Demon. Simulations help him identify hidden alliances and explore ways to prevent wider conflict 210 221.

As his strength grows, he urges Seven Star Island to reclaim its lost Small Worlds rather than remain on the defensive. By the time both his body and primordial spirit reach the Heavenly Immortal limits, he has already wiped out Hundred Calamities Valley and has no local rival within ten thousand miles 243 253.

Golden Immortal, Central Province, and the Abyss

Xu Changxing leaves for Central Province after visiting old acquaintances and settling his state of mind. During his journey, comprehension of the Space Great Dao brings him into Golden Immortal. He refuses a heavenly gift that would merge his body’s cultivation into his primordial spirit, preserving the possibility of cultivating a separate Great Dao physically 268 269 270.

Yan Guyin introduces him to Golden Immortal society and arranges an alchemy partnership with the Moonflower Sect. Xu Changxing produces Ageless Golden Cores and exchanges his earnings for Origin Crystals to investigate the Tianyan Sect Illusion 276 280.

In the Abyss, he defeats Zhu Lu with the Kongwei Compass and assimilates its Destruction Dao patterns. His body enters Golden Immortal and eventually reaches the fourth layer after a century of contemplation. His new Destruction attainments allow him to resist the Abyssal Rule; exploring Zhu Lu’s lair also yields Origin Crystals 289 290.

Music, the Tianyan Sect Illusion, and the Golden Immortal Limit

Xu Changxing’s growing mastery of music becomes both a source of resources and a means of investigating the Tianyan Sect. His ability to integrate alchemy into music attracts Immortal Lord Leyou’s attention in simulations. Meanwhile, eerie corruption within the illusion raises concerns when corresponding Great Dao laws appear on revived remains in reality 330 333 334.

His reputation draws an invitation to expound the Great Dao of Music for a thousand Origin Crystals. Dealings surrounding Fairy Yaohua’s Zither of Time lead him to insist on a personal negotiation, and he later becomes master of the Immortal Music Pavilion 335 357 371.

Over five thousand years and more than twenty simulations, he raises multiple Great Daos to Golden Immortal Ninth Layer and integrates more than a hundred Daos into Music. He discovers that the Immortal Realm itself suppresses advancement to Taiyi, while the sealed Weirdness continues penetrating his restrictions without fully escaping. He prepares to revisit the Tianyan Sect Illusion after attending to Li Changge and Lao Lu 377 378.

Taiyi and the Tianyan Sect

After nurturing the Tianyan Pearl for a thousand years, Xu Changxing fully refines it as his life-bound treasure and unlocks its permissions. He learns the origin of the cultivation rewards that have sustained his rise and continues advancing as a Taiyi through extracted Great Dao fragments and simulations 401 406 413.

His rapid progress consumes enormous quantities of Origin Crystals. Immortal Lord Leyou, High Person Sanshou, and Daoist Wuchen provide access to their successors’ resources, allowing him to gather well over a hundred thousand crystals across the relevant storehouses 414 415.

While traveling through the Immortal Realm, he encounters Li Changge fighting to rescue Jiang Yao. Xu Changxing extracts her from confinement without the hostile Golden Immortals noticing, reunites her with her master, and gives her Heavenly Spirit Jade. His intervention also brings him into renewed confrontation with the Myriad Immortals Alliance 421 424 426.

Bottom of the Abyss and the Daluo Bottleneck

During his battle with Zhongji Daoist, Xu Changxing combines Destruction and Space-Time methods while the Tianyan Pearl extracts the Great Daos sustaining an Abyssal layer. Its collapse exposes an unusual Spatial Rift leading deeper into the Abyss 438.

His subsequent journey to the Bottom of the Abyss transforms his attainments. He judges his laws comparable to those of Half-Step Immortal Venerables and can now kill Abyss Great Overlords with ease. He brings Li Changge to the Grotto-Heaven there, places Kalen’s strength at his senior brother’s disposal, and later helps expand the refuge while introducing large numbers of beasts 446 447 448 463.

By this period he is Tianyan Sect master. He carefully manages conflict with the Myriad Immortals Alliance, killing Immortal Lord Zihao while intimidating the alliance’s two Half-Step Immortal Venerables sufficiently to delay all-out war and the Final Tribulation 477 482.

Xu Changxing and Jiang Yao then cross the chaotic void in search of Wuyou. The journey strengthens his Space-Time Great Dao, and subsequent seclusion brings him to the Daluo bottleneck. Wuyou eventually reveals that the Yangshan Sect disciple Xu Changxing had observed was his incarnation within a world modeled on his own early life 485 486.

Slaying Tian Ge and Revisiting the Setting Sun Sect

Xu Changxing confronts Tian Ge Patriarch using the Heavenly Dao Painting, Abyssal laws, and his Grotto-Heaven. He traps the Daluo in a storm of laws and survives the patriarch’s final lightning attack behind a Great Dao barrier. Tian Ge’s death destroys the Myriad Immortals Alliance’s will to continue the battle; subsequent negotiations concern the ransom of captured disciples 510 514.

Returning to the former Setting Sun Sect after tens of thousands of years, Xu Changxing finds its earth vein exhausted and its old prosperity gone. He recognizes the terrain of his former cultivation peak and later tests Li Qing, whose steady temperament makes him a potential candidate to revive the sect 519 521.

Past-Life Revelation and the Final Tribulation

Puzzling traces of familiarity lead Xu Changxing back to Wuyou. He learns that his earlier incarnation was the Heavenly Dao Painting’s true spirit and reconstructs his past cooperation with Tianyuan, the loss of his memories, and his placement of the Tianyan Pearl Projection within his mortal self 525 526.

Seeking further answers about Tianyuan and the Final Tribulation, he visits the Myriad Immortals Alliance directly rather than following ordinary diplomatic procedure. His meeting with Zhili produces little cooperation, while hostile ancient powers begin awakening to capture him 531 532 533.

Xu Changxing ultimately identifies freedom from Taiyi Dao Lord as the purpose behind his earlier reversal of space-time. Although he still lacks his former memories, he refuses Wuyou’s suggestion that he accept life as their creator’s Dao Attendant 540.

During the finale, Xu Changxing and Tianyuan reshape the Heavenly Dao Painting and cast off its controlling shackles. Arrangements involving a Small World expose Taiyi Dao Lord’s aura to the Final Tribulation, weakening him. Xu Changxing then pursues and destroys him with swords forged from World-Creation Merit 543.

After new worlds begin nurturing life, Xu Changxing releases tens of thousands of preserved true spirits and restores Li Changge, Jiang Yao, the Tianyan Sect immortals, Wuyou, and Tianyuan. Tianyuan dissolves their remaining karma, further weakening Xu Changxing’s ties to the previous cycle. Now the supreme existence within the world, he takes the form of a young Daoist and departs to roam the newborn worlds, with another possible trial deferred until a future Final Tribulation 543.
