Power Progression
Main Timeline
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Seven cloud patterns | 12 | Condensed through the Cloudglow Reflecting Immortal Art before Foundation Establishment; his achievement serves as a benchmark for Xu Changxing. |
| Core Formation — first-grade Golden Core | 27 | Retrospectively stated to have formed his core after just over a decade of cultivation. His swordsmanship lets him nearly match less combat-proficient Nascent Soul cultivators. |
| Core Formation Late Stage | 45 | His confirmed realm when Xu Changxing seeks help controlling the sword intent inherited from Li Changge’s simulated future self. |
| Nascent Soul | 46 47 48 | Discovers his path through sparring with Xu Changxing, shatters his core, and overcomes the resulting heavenly tribulation by piercing its thundercloud with his sword. |
| Nascent Soul Early Stage — subsequent confirmation | 86 | Still at the early stage during the confrontation with the Yin Corpse Sect’s Spirit Transformation patriarch, unlike the preceding simulation in which repeated battles had already advanced him. |
| Nascent Soul Middle Stage | 91 | Appears with more condensed sword light and a stronger aura when he and Xu Changxing divide their spoils. |
| Spirit Transformation | 120 121 | Survives the Immortal Tribulation, enduring its first six rounds unscathed before suffering injuries in the later rounds. His breakthrough is reported as making him the Setting Sun Sect’s second supreme Spirit Transformation cultivator. |
| Upper Realm ascension | 161 162 | Ascends from the lower world and reunites with Xu Changxing, who brings him to Demon-Suppressing Mountain. |
| Void refinement and Dao integration | 169 170 | Forcibly opens a Sword Dao in the Upper Realm. With the borrowed Greenwood Sword, disperses the backlash and establishes Sword Dao as one of the world’s Great Daos, then advances through the resulting illumination of rules. |
| Origin Immortal | 253 254 | Ascends to the Immortal Realm and stabilizes his cultivation before joining Seven Star Island. Sword Dao rules already surround him, and he can withstand Bu Yufeng’s lingering Heavenly Immortal pressure. |
| Origin Immortal Ninth Stage — peak | 261 | Reaches the peak after approximately three hundred years. His Sword Dao rules begin transforming toward the Way of Slaughter before he has even become a True Immortal. |
| True Immortal | 262 | Kills a True Immortal-level Great Demon with a desperate strike infused with the Slaughter Rule and breaks through through his insight into that attack. Spends five years consolidating under Xu Changxing’s protection. |
| True Immortal Ninth Layer | 265 267 | Reaches the realm over the following thousand years. Delays his Heavenly Immortal breakthrough while attempting to merge the Way of Slaughter with Sword Dao. |
| Heavenly Immortal Ninth Layer | 311 315 | Resists Yan Wusheng’s possession attempt. After an epiphany, gains greater control over Great Dao laws but deliberately postpones Golden Immortal ascension to study additional Great Daos. |
| Golden Immortal — confirmed | 421 422 | Battles several Golden Immortals while attempting to recover Jiang Yao. His Sword Dao places them under substantial pressure, but their combined strength forces him to withdraw. |
| Taiyi breakthrough readiness | 447 | After fighting into the Fifth Abyss Layer, can root his Great Dao in an underlying Great Dao and is judged capable of attaining Taiyi at any moment. |
| Taiyi Immortal Lord | 449 450 | Roots his Great Dao in the grotto-heaven at the Bottom of the Abyss. The Azure-Robed Dao Ancestor’s Seven-Colored Divine Stone helps complete the breakthrough; his Dao also touches the underlying laws of the Bottom of the Abyss. |
| Middle Taiyi | 471 | Advances alongside the grotto-heaven’s expansion over more than a thousand years. Possesses combat strength comparable to late Taiyi and can easily slay an Abyss Great Overlord. |
| Half-Step Immortal Venerable-level combat strength — external support | 504 | The grotto-heaven’s underlying Great Dao opens and resonates with its Taiyi cultivators. Daoist Wuchen judges that this support enables Li Changge to contend with a Half-Step Immortal Venerable; this is not identified as a permanent realm advancement. |
Alternate Simulation

| Golden Immortal Sixth Stage | 346 | Reaches this realm through roughly seven thousand years of fighting after becoming a Golden Immortal. Survives a betrayal and ambush but requires Xu Changxing’s help to stabilize a poisonous law corroding his divine soul. |
Appearance
- Youthful appearance and sharp aura: At his first in-person meeting with Xu Changxing, he looks young but radiates a remarkable sharpness even while deliberately suppressing his aura 17.
- Aged remnant soul: His inheritance manifestation has white-streaked temples, deeply carved wrinkles, and an insubstantial body 42.
Personality
Li Changge is direct and confident in his judgment. When Liu Chenyu doubts his praise of Xu Changxing, he insists that he always says what he thinks. He recognizes Xu’s exceptionally stable foundation despite their master’s initial belief that the youngest disciple had damaged his prospects 17.
He favors combat over secluded cultivation, presenting dangerous secret-realm expeditions as an exhilarating way to obtain resources and develop swordsmanship. He takes Liu Chenyu’s scolding without anger and readily gives Xu Changxing supplies when prompted 17 18.
A difficult opponent intensifies rather than discourages his fighting spirit. During his duel with Xu Changxing, he welcomes mounting pressure as a chance to understand the road ahead. His ambition extends beyond surviving immediate dangers: he openly declares that his sword intends to cleave heaven and earth, then attacks his tribulation head-on 45 46 48.
Despite his confidence, Xu Changxing’s progress repeatedly unsettles him. Seeing the Greenwood Sword become an Immortal Sword forces him to recognize that he has become a follower rather than pursuing his original ambition to see beyond the highest peak. Instead of accepting this diminished resolve, he recovers his independent sword heart and attempts to carve a new Sword Dao into the world 169 170.
His preference for answering others with his sword does not make him a mindless fighter. He prepares escape measures when confronting stronger enemies, acknowledges the limits of his strength, and withdraws from the Golden Immortals surrounding Jiang Yao when continuing would accomplish nothing. He nevertheless refuses to cooperate with people scheming over his disciple’s treasure 263 379 422.
He is protective of those close to him. In simulations, he risks himself to obtain rare medicines for Xu Changxing; in the main timeline, he challenges multiple Golden Immortals for Jiang Yao and later expresses reluctance to make her shoulder dangerous responsibilities in his place 51 80 422 470.
His pursuit of swordsmanship also includes patience and deliberate restraint. He postpones both Heavenly Immortal and Golden Immortal breakthroughs when he believes further comprehension can strengthen his foundation, choosing a broader understanding of the Great Dao over immediate advancement 267 315.
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
- Combat beyond his realm: With a first-grade Golden Core, he can nearly rival Nascent Soul elders less skilled in combat 27.
- Unity of body and sword: Merges with his flying sword to break through thunderclouds and launch concentrated attacks 46 48.
- Nascent Soul slaying: In a simulation, holds off a Nascent Soul-level demon beast before killing it in one stroke once his allies’ formation traps it 19.
- Formation coordination: Recruits Xu Changxing as the wood-attribute member needed to complete a Five Elements Sword Formation alongside four Core Formation sword cultivators; Li Changge fights in support of the formation 17 19.
- Combined sword attacks: In a simulation, joins swords with Xu Changxing to resist a Spirit Transformation cultivator for several hours despite being at Nascent Soul Middle Stage. Their coordination later lets them survive repeated crises against Demon Kings after ascending 78 114.
- True Immortal-level killing strike: As an Origin Immortal, wounds a Great Demon whose realm exceeds his own, then kills it with an all-out strike that brings about his True Immortal breakthrough 261 262.
- Massed sword rain: Produces a sky-filling rain of swords by pointing his fingers tens of thousands of times in an instant, shredding a beast formed from the combined laws of three Profound Demons 380.
- Formation breaking: Splits demonic sects’ Mountain-Guarding Grand Formations with a single sword strike while gathering resources from their Small World 309 315 316.
- Battlefield perception: His extensive combat experience gives him an almost instinctive awareness of danger. He anticipates Daoist Qinghe’s betrayal and blocks the initial golden-bracelet attack while fighting three Profound Demons 379 380.
Lightning-Wielding Sword Intent
- Rapid adaptation: Adjusts to lightning that initially disrupts his control of the Startling Rainbow Sword 45 46.
- Lightning integration: Learns to draw lightning with his sword during his exchange with Xu Changxing 46.
- Thundercloud generation: Their combined sword intent stirs surrounding thunder-attribute spiritual energy into gathering clouds 46.
- Tribulation-breaking strike: Pierces the sea of heavenly lightning and its source cloud during his Nascent Soul breakthrough, preventing the cloud from reforming 48.
Sword Inheritance
- Remnant-soul instruction: His simulated future self retains consciousness within an inheritance realm and accepts Xu Changxing as his successor 42.
- Thundercloud trial: Forces the recipient to cut through closing clouds and learn to anticipate and sever lightning 42 43.
- True legacy: Passes on the sword intent of his final strike against the heavens; the preceding trial prepares Xu Changxing to bear it 43.
- Effect on the successor: The inheritance transforms Xu Changxing’s spiritual roots and drives him into Core Formation, ultimately producing a lightning-tempered sword core 43 44.
Qi and Blood Sword Flight
- Specialized cultivation path: Works with Xu Changxing for decades to tailor a path for sword cultivators because the Myriad Knowledge Immortal-Congealing Art requires legendary power he cannot obtain in sufficient quantities 163.
- Domain Formation amplification: Anchors the Domain Formation’s core and draws on the Qi and Blood of martial artists across the World Domain, with Demon-Suppressing Mountain’s martial artists stabilizing its other nodes 166 167.
- Blood-red sword light: Uses the gathered power to unleash Qi and Blood Sword Flight against the Tianyan Sect’s Secret Realm. Its sword light briefly reaches a stalemate with the Sword Tomb’s Broken Swords, though he recognizes that this result depends on the formation and the support of countless martial artists 166 167.
Sword Dao and Great Dao Laws
- Sword Dao establishment: Forces open a place for Sword Dao among the Upper Realm’s Great Daos. The borrowed Greenwood Sword supplies the immortal power needed to disperse the backlash and complete the process 169 170.
- Early rule comprehension: Possesses Sword Dao rules as an Origin Immortal and begins transforming them toward the Way of Slaughter before his True Immortal breakthrough, an exceptional achievement for his realm 254 261.
- Slaughter Rule: Infuses his sword intent with a destructive power that continues annihilating a Great Demon’s blood after entering its body. The demon must expend more than three times as much blood essence to extinguish a single wisp of the intent 261 262.
- Dao fusion: Attempts to merge the Way of Slaughter with Sword Dao while still a True Immortal, delaying advancement to improve the resulting sword intent 267.
- Resistance to soul attacks: Cuts through Yan Wusheng’s blood net and cleaves apart soul power containing Soul Dao Laws during the Profound Demon’s possession attempt 311.
- Broader Dao comprehension: Gains insights into several Great Daos after experiencing Xu Changxing’s Great Dao music and the manifestation of laws. Plans to incorporate additional Daos into his Sword Dao before becoming a Golden Immortal 315.
Taiyi Authority and Grotto-Heaven Support
- Rooted Great Dao: His Great Dao takes root in the grotto-heaven’s underlying Great Dao with almost no resistance and also touches the underlying laws of the Bottom of the Abyss 449 450.
- Regional Taiyi power: Can wield his full Taiyi Immortal Lord strength throughout the Bottom of the Abyss, not merely within the grotto-heaven. This unrestricted strength does not extend to the Immortal Realm 450.
- Growth with the world: His strength rises alongside the grotto-heaven’s expansion, bringing him to middle Taiyi with late-Taiyi-level combat power 471.
- Enhanced world support: When the underlying Great Dao opens itself and resonates with its Taiyi cultivators, his combat strength rises enough to contend with a Half-Step Immortal Venerable, according to Daoist Wuchen’s assessment 504.
Equipment & Items
- Startling Rainbow Sword: His flying sword, used against Xu Changxing’s Greenwood Sword during their sparring match 45.
- Gift to Xu Changxing: A spacious Storage Bag protected by restrictions, containing spirit stones worth approximately five thousand low-grade spirit stones, cultivation pills, a Sword Pellet, and a jade slip of the Yi Wood Sword Art 18.
- Immortal Sword — simulated future: Remains in a thousand-zhang-deep crater after his final heavenly tribulation, still flickering with lightning beneath lingering thunderclouds 41.
- God-Slaying Sword: His sword requires reforging after Pei Honglie cracks its Sword Pellet. Xu Changxing gives him top-grade stardust sand and other exceptional tempering materials from Pei Honglie’s Storage Ring, enough to reforge it 91.
- Greenwood Sword — borrowed: Borrows Xu Changxing’s newly forged Immortal Sword to complete the establishment of Sword Dao. Its immortal power replenishes his nearly depleted Primordial Spirit and temporarily raises his cultivation by several levels 169 170.
- Demonic sect resources: Collects several dozen Storage Rings from demonic sects after Yan Wusheng’s defeat. He credits Xu Changxing with making the haul possible and lets him take half the rings first 315 316.
- Seven-Colored Divine Stone — Dao connection: A portion of his Great Dao merges into the stone sent by the Azure-Robed Dao Ancestor to the grotto-heaven. Its illumination helps him complete his Taiyi breakthrough, though he cannot initially determine its exact grade 450.
History
Reputation and Recruitment
Before Xu Changxing joins Liu Chenyu’s lineage, Li Changge has already condensed seven cloud patterns. By the sect tournament, the elders describe him as a prodigy who surpassed his master years earlier and is expected to become the Setting Sun Sect’s sword god of his generation 12 24 27.
Upon meeting Xu Changxing, he recognizes the younger disciple’s strong foundation and proposes taking him into a Secret Realm. He needs a wood-attribute sword cultivator to complete a Five Elements Sword Formation, but Liu Chenyu refuses to let a newly established Foundation Establishment disciple accompany him. Li Changge nevertheless supplies Xu with the means to begin sword cultivation 17 18.
Nascent Soul Breakthrough
Li Changge returns to Flying Stream Peak after Xu Changxing’s inherited sword intent becomes difficult to control. Although he does not understand its origin, he finds the intent strangely familiar and recognizes it as an answer to questions he has long struggled with. Their ensuing duel lets him grasp the union of sword light and heavenly lightning 45 46.
The exchange leads directly to his core-breaking ascension. Shi Haoyan judges his newly steadfast sword intent to be evidence of a suitable path and sees the possibility of a future Spirit Transformation breakthrough. Li Changge then cuts through his heavenly tribulation, thanks Xu Changxing for his guidance, and returns to his mountain to stabilize his cultivation 47 48.
War with the Yin Corpse Sect
Li Changge later raids Yin Corpse Sect shops with Xu Changxing, breaking into their storerooms and seizing resources. He initially hopes to assess his junior brother’s strength and arrange another spar, but Xu Changxing’s single-strike killing of the Nascent Soul Late Stage cultivator Lü Tong convinces him that he might not withstand such sword light even at full strength 85.
After Lü Tong’s death, Li Changge declares the city under the Setting Sun Sect’s control and orders its cultivators to remain where they are. He kills several fleeing Yin Corpse Sect cultivators with Sword Qi. At this stage, he remains at early Nascent Soul rather than having already reached the middle stage as he did in a preceding simulation 85 86.
During the subsequent fight with Pei Honglie, he intervenes at a crucial moment and disrupts the Spirit Transformation cultivator’s movements, helping Xu Changxing secure the kill. Pei Honglie damages his Sword Pellet, but Xu later gives him rare reforging materials from the defeated patriarch’s belongings. By the time they divide their spoils, Li Changge has reached Nascent Soul Middle Stage. After mutual attempts to decline a larger share, he accepts only one-tenth of the Mingkang City spoils 91.
Spirit Transformation and Upper Realm Ascension
Li Changge’s Spirit Transformation breakthrough draws another Immortal Tribulation over the Setting Sun Sect. He passes its first six rounds without injury, then suffers increasing disruption and burns under the later bolts before completing the breakthrough. Xu Changxing subsequently tells him of Void Refinement and warns him about the dangers awaiting in the Upper Realm 120 121.
After ascending, Li Changge reunites with Xu Changxing and accepts an invitation to Demon-Suppressing Mountain. He is surprised to see humans living openly in what he expected to be an overwhelmingly dangerous Demon Realm. Learning that Ji Feiyu is Xu Changxing’s Void-Breaking granddisciple, and that Xu has already killed two Heavenly Demons, makes him realize how thoroughly his junior brother has changed the Human Race’s position 161 162.
Because Li Changge cannot satisfy the legendary-power requirements of Xu Changxing’s cultivation method, the two spend decades developing a path suited specifically to sword cultivators. Li Changge later anchors the Domain Formation during the confrontation with Tian Zhu, using the martial artists’ collective Qi and Blood to support his sword attacks 163 166 167.
Establishing Sword Dao
The transformation of Xu Changxing’s Greenwood Sword into an Immortal Sword shakes Li Changge’s sword heart. He realizes that both his junior brother and the Sword Pellet he once casually gave away have surpassed him, and that following Xu’s footsteps has obscured his original purpose in cultivation 169.
Recovering his independent resolve, he decides that if the world lacks the Sword Dao he envisions, he will cut a path for it himself. His attack tears open the Great Dao but leaves him exhausted as heavenly backlash gathers. Xu Changxing sends the Greenwood Sword across ten thousand miles, allowing him to disperse the thunderclouds and finish establishing Sword Dao as a Great Dao of the world 169 170.
The newborn Dao illuminates the world with the light of rules, and Li Changge advances onto the path of void refinement and Dao integration. After stabilizing, he confidently speaks of ascending within a hundred years. Xu Changxing leaves first, promising to scout the Immortal Realm ahead of him 170.
Immortal Realm and Seven Star Island
Li Changge eventually reaches the Immortal Realm and stabilizes his Origin Immortal cultivation. When he reunites with Xu Changxing, he is astonished to learn that his junior brother has already become a Heavenly Immortal and Seven Star Island’s Second-Generation Patriarch 253 254.
He accepts Xu Changxing’s invitation to join Seven Star Island. Bu Yufeng recognizes his unusual talent after seeing him remain composed under a Heavenly Immortal’s lingering pressure. The subsequent ceremony leaves Li Changge uncomfortable when immortals of higher cultivation bow to him, but he soon returns to his mountain with cultivation resources and enters seclusion 254 256.
Approximately three hundred years later, he has reached the peak of Origin Immortal Ninth Stage and accepts a mission to clear bloodthirsty demon beasts from a recently reclaimed Small World. There, he fights a Great Demon comparable to a True Immortal. His all-out, Slaughter Rule-infused strike kills the enemy and simultaneously brings about his own True Immortal breakthrough 261 262.
Xu Changxing clears the surrounding beasts and guards him for five years while he consolidates. Li Changge afterward reflects that his extreme pursuit of swordsmanship might otherwise have ended in a final dazzling but self-destructive strike. Xu recognizes that their intertwined experiences have changed the fate in which Li Changge perished under the lower world’s restraints 262 263.
Over the following thousand years, Li Changge reaches True Immortal Ninth Layer. His exploits include single-handedly killing more than a dozen True Demons among the Hundred Calamities Valley Remnants, including two at the ninth stage. These victories eliminate lingering doubts about him within Seven Star Island. He nevertheless delays becoming a Heavenly Immortal while seeking a better fusion of Slaughter and Sword Dao 265 267.
Demonic Small Worlds and Further Dao Comprehension
Li Changge spends an extended period fighting through a Small World occupied by demonic sects, repeatedly escaping encirclements before growing strong enough to kill the patriarchs pursuing him. His opponents regard themselves as whetstones for his sword and eventually organize a more dangerous response 309.
The hidden Profound Demon Yan Wusheng seeks to possess his body. Li Changge cuts through the blood restraints and soul attacks used against him, but Yan Wusheng ultimately dissolves his own body and unleashes a storm of Great Dao laws. Xu Changxing resolves the Profound Demon threat and later guards Li Changge through his epiphany 311 315.
Li Changge emerges with improved control over Sword Dao laws but remains at Heavenly Immortal Ninth Layer. Rather than seize the opportunity to become a Golden Immortal, he decides to devote a thousand years to understanding additional Great Daos and incorporating them into his sword path. Before leaving the Small World, he and Xu Changxing collect the resources abandoned by its demonic sects and divide the haul 315 316.
In a later confrontation, Li Changge fights three Profound Demons while Daoist Qinghe betrays him with a golden bracelet. He holds back the bracelet’s mountain-like pressure with sword light, but a broken whip wielded by the demons pushes the situation beyond what he can safely handle. Lao Lu intervenes and lifts the bracelet, allowing Li Changge to continue fighting the demons while Qinghe flees 379 380.
Protecting Jiang Yao
Li Changge takes Jiang Yao as his disciple and clashes with Golden Immortals seeking the treasure she carries. He attacks their Mountain Gate and insists on taking her away, rejecting their attempts to present the dispute as a matter of cooperation or shared opportunity 421 422.
When six Golden Immortals coordinate their attacks, their combined strength forces him to break out and withdraw. He condemns their conduct and promises to return. Xu Changxing then secretly removes Jiang Yao from their restrictions and reunites her with her master 422 424.
Xu Changxing gives Jiang Yao Heavenly Spirit Jade as a first-meeting gift. It activates her Star River Pendant and raises her cultivation from early Nascent Soul to late Spirit Transformation without instability. Li Changge and Xu privately conclude that she is likely the reincarnated true spirit of an Innate Spirit Treasure, leaving Li both pleased by her talent and concerned about protecting her 424 425.
Taiyi Attainment in the Abyss
Li Changge finds the Abyss particularly suited to tempering his sword heart. In less than a thousand years, he fights his way into its fifth layer and adapts to its laws. Xu Changxing observes that he has already developed the ability to root his Great Dao in an underlying Great Dao and could attain Taiyi at any moment 447.
Rather than root himself in the Immortal Realm, Li Changge accepts Xu Changxing’s invitation to the grotto-heaven left by the Azure-Robed Dao Ancestor at the Bottom of the Abyss. Almost as soon as he enters, his Great Dao and the grotto-heaven’s underlying Great Dao rush toward one another and merge, with his Dao also reaching toward the Bottom of the Abyss’s underlying laws 449.
The Azure-Robed Dao Ancestor sends a Seven-Colored Divine Stone to the grotto-heaven. Its illumination helps Li Changge complete his Taiyi Immortal Lord breakthrough. He discovers that he can use his full Taiyi strength throughout the Bottom of the Abyss, though not in the Immortal Realm, and promises to protect the grotto-heaven from demonic beasts 450.
Grotto-Heaven Expansion and the New Cycle
As Xu Changxing expands the grotto-heaven to a hundred thousand li in diameter, Li Changge’s strength rises with it. Over more than a thousand years, he reaches middle Taiyi and gains combat power comparable to late Taiyi, sufficient to kill an Abyss Great Overlord easily 471.
He continues supporting the grotto-heaven’s development and agrees with Xu Changxing’s plan to involve the Tianyan Sect’s immortals in further expansion. During the confrontation with the Myriad Immortals Alliance, his sword light cuts across the opposing side’s rising momentum. Resonance with the grotto-heaven’s underlying Great Dao raises his strength enough to contend with a Half-Step Immortal Venerable 497 504.
After Xu Changxing slays Taiyi Dao Lord and the newborn worlds begin nurturing life, he releases preserved true spirits and rebuilds Li Changge’s body. Jiang Yao and the Tianyan Sect’s immortals are also restored as the new cycle begins 543.

Inheritance Across Timelines
After Xu Changxing selects a sword-cultivator legacy as a simulation reward, he encounters Li Changge’s aged remnant soul. The remnant remembers Xu dying in lightning tribulation and is bewildered by his restored youth and weaker cultivation, but accepts him as successor without demanding an explanation 42.
Li Changge wonders whether time can flow backward, while Xu later questions whether receiving the inheritance consumed real time. The connection between this future remnant soul, the simulation, and the main timeline remains unresolved at that stage 43 49.
After Li Changge’s actual True Immortal breakthrough, Xu Changxing recognizes that his involvement has overturned the fate repeatedly shown in simulations: a brilliant sword cultivator destroyed while challenging the lower world’s restraints. Memories of Li’s simulated and actual experiences overlap in Xu’s reflections on the trajectories of fate, though this does not explicitly explain the inheritance’s mechanism 263.
