Geography and Access
Structure and Scale
- Main world: Described as a vast primordial continent suspended in the Endless Void, surrounded by fragmented Small Worlds 184.
- Attached worlds: Connected to countless Small Worlds, some controlled by sects and exploited for cultivation resources 184 213.
- Settlements: Contains ordinary mountain ranges, villages, and towns populated largely by mortals. Immortals are not present everywhere despite the realm’s name 171.
- Distances: Its territory vastly exceeds that of the lower realm. Even after spending considerable time near Seven Star Island, Xu Changxing has explored only a small portion of it 213.
| Region or Site | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Peripheral regions | Relatively resource-poor. Heavenly Immortal Eighth Stage cultivation can constitute top-tier local strength, while further advancement may take thousands or tens of thousands of years 228. |
| Central Province | Rich in Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, attracting Heavenly Immortals who compete for cultivation resources. Treasures that deepen Great Dao comprehension remain rare 240 241. |
| Eye of the Great Dao | Dangerous location containing laws of chaos and the Gate of Samsara, a backup of the Immortal Realm’s laws 470 488. |
| Small Worlds | Subsidiary worlds used for resources, sect holdings, and secluded cultivation. One world contested by Seven Star Island and Purple Cloud Mountain is believed to be an Ancient Battlefield fragment 184 185. |
Ascension and Travel
- Unique immortal gate: Xu Changxing crosses countless parallel planes with the Tianyan Pearl before reaching the gate and entering the Immortal Realm 171.
- Release from lower-realm restrictions: Upon arrival, the restrictions preventing Xu Changxing’s Mahayana body from advancing disappear. Dense immortal qi transforms his immortal essence, allowing him to become an Origin Immortal 171.
- Other ascendants: Ascension is not restricted to orthodox cultivators; Xu Changxing encounters a newly ascended demonic cultivator in a simulation 173.
- Spatial travel: Advanced cultivators can move between the Immortal Realm, the Abyss, and lower realms through spatial techniques or the Endless Void 451 503 517.
Great Dao and World Laws
Underlying Great Dao
- Foundation of cultivation: The realm’s underlying Great Dao supports the laws into which Taiyi cultivators root their own Great Daos 395.
- Normally concealed: Because the Immortal Realm is already fully formed, its underlying Great Dao rarely reveals itself. Golden Immortals generally need a fortuitous opportunity to observe its workings 472.
- Affected by powerful cultivators: The return of ancient Immortal Monarchs partially restores the underlying Great Dao, improving cultivation conditions throughout the realm 394.
- Pressure on Daluo: Daoist Wuchen advises Xu Changxing to delay attaining Daluo until returning Immortal Venerables ease pressure on the realm’s Great Dao. The Alliance’s Daluo also fear backlash from descending into the realm 451 512.
Small Worlds and Fortune Backlash
- A Tianyan Sect Immortal Venerable merges the Way of Destiny into the Immortal Realm and its attached Small Worlds to prevent other sects from refining those worlds 409.
- Disrupting the workings of their Great Dao consequently incurs severe backlash of fortune 409.
- Xu Changxing’s extraction of Small Worlds’ Great Dao Laws strengthens the Tianyan Pearl but brings him into conflict with the Myriad Immortals Alliance 403 404.
Connection to the Tianyan Pearl
- The Immortal Realm cannot be replicated like the lower-realm parallel worlds. After ascension, the Tianyan Pearl’s ordinary simulations instead use a virtual Immortal Realm that may differ from reality 171 177.
- Xu Changxing eventually discovers that his earlier cultivation rewards were supplied through exceptionally pure Immortal Realm origin, rather than ordinary immortal essence 272.
- After its physical form was crushed during the Ancient Times Calamity, the Tianyan Pearl became intangible and sank into the underlying Great Dao, recording its fluctuations for over a million years 401.
- Once Xu Changxing attains Taiyi, he can use the pearl to study those underlying laws directly with his own magical power 402.
Gate of Samsara
- Function: Preserves a backup of the Immortal Realm’s laws within the Eye of the Great Dao 488.
- Potential: Can reshape the realm’s laws, but cannot independently eliminate the Final Tribulation 488.
- Earlier intervention: Wuyou believes Tianyuan used his Great Dao to disturb a crucial node and trigger a realm-wide reversal of Space-Time. This delayed the Final Tribulation rather than preventing it 488.
Cultivation and Resources
Cultivation Hierarchy
| Realm | Documented Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Origin Immortal | The endpoint of the mortal world but only the beginning of the immortal path. Divided into nine layers; cultivators can condense lower-grade immortal essence stones 171 172. |
| True Immortal | Divided into nine layers. Can condense middle-grade immortal essence stones 172. |
| Heavenly Immortal | Can condense upper-grade immortal essence stones. A sect that has produced a Heavenly Immortal qualifies as a longevity immortal sect 172. |
| Golden Immortal | Advancement depends on the depth of Great Dao comprehension rather than simply the number of Great Daos understood 260. |
| Taiyi | Attainment requires rooting one’s laws in a world’s underlying Great Dao; Feng Yuan’s breakthrough would expose the hidden Tianyan Sect if performed inside it 395. |
| Daluo | Immortal Venerables at this level rank among the realm’s foremost powerhouses, but returning to the realm can expose them to Great Dao backlash 474 512. |
Immortal Essence Stones
| Grade | Documented Production |
|---|---|
| Lower-grade | A newly advanced Origin Immortal can condense roughly one per year; an Origin Immortal at the realm’s peak can condense one hundred per year 172. |
| Middle-grade | A True Immortal First Layer cultivator can condense one per year. Each is worth more than one thousand lower-grade stones 172. |
| Upper-grade | Condensed by Heavenly Immortals and held as precious resources by longevity immortal sects 172. |
- Cultivation uses: Immortal essence stones power formations that gather immortal essence and help cultivators overcome bottlenecks 172 173 175.
- Alchemy and trade: Pill refining provides income and sect contribution points. Xu Changxing’s arrangement with the Moonflower Sect eventually allows him to exchange accumulated points for Origin Crystals 180 276.
- Origin Crystals: Contain law fragments that Xu Changxing initially needs to activate the Tianyan Pearl’s power to perceive the underlying Great Dao 402.
- Regional scarcity: Limited resources on the fringes encourage Heavenly Immortals to travel toward the central continent 228.
Society and Major Powers
- Mortal population: Ordinary people live alongside low-level cultivators, including in the area where Xu Changxing first arrives 171.
- Cultivation privacy: Asking directly about another immortal’s cultivation is unusual; even when asked, immortals seldom disclose it 214.
- Leisure: Golden Immortals attend banquets, trade treasures, and visit music pavilions. Yan Guyin argues that immortals do not seek everlasting life merely to spend it all cultivating 301 317.
- Conflict: Xu Changxing initially learns that clashes between immortals are uncommon, but his simulations expose lethal resource disputes, sect wars, and attacks on isolated cultivators 172 173 176.
| Power | Role in the Immortal Realm |
|---|---|
| Tianyan Sect | Ancient sect whose return draws scattered successors from across the realm. Later becomes the Myriad Immortals Alliance’s principal rival and develops a refuge at the Bottom of the Abyss 389 458 515. |
| Myriad Immortals Alliance | Coalition of ancient Immortal Monarchs with further experts slumbering in the void and Daluo backing beyond the heavens 409 512. |
| Demonic Gate | Returns alongside other ancient powers; its returning Devil Lord summons demonic descendants, including those hiding in Small Worlds 390. |
| Seven Star Island | Longevity immortal sect with subsidiary worlds and resource holdings contested by Purple Cloud Mountain 184 222. |
| Immortal Music Pavilion | Music-oriented sect founded by Immortal Lord Leyou. Its members answer his summons when the Tianyan Sect reappears 387 389. |
| Moonflower Sect | Maintains pill-refining business ties with Xu Changxing and later considers relocation after the Alliance’s defeat 276 512. |
History
Ancient Calamity and Missing Powers
Ancient Immortal Venerables leave unusually few traces in the realm. Immortal Lord Leyou recalls being erased from the Great Dao without any chance to resist, while the Tianyan Sect’s former master erased the traces of his own identity after departing 388.
Before the ancient powers return, Immortal Monarchs rarely appear in Golden Immortal circles. At a banquet, Yan Guyin reports that no one present has heard of a Golden Immortal attaining Taiyi for several hundred thousand years; whether that path has been blocked remains a suspicion at that point 317.
Xu Changxing’s Arrival
Xu Changxing enters through the immortal gate and immediately advances to Origin Immortal. His first surroundings are an ordinary mountain range with mortal settlements, contradicting his expectation that immortals would be everywhere. His subsequent simulations reveal both the realm’s enormous scale and his low position within its cultivation hierarchy 171.
Return of the Ancient Powers
Xu Changxing’s attainment of Taiyi accompanies the Tianyan Sect’s return. Thousands of Small Worlds shatter, shaking the underlying Great Dao and broadcasting the sect’s reappearance throughout the realm. Immortal Lord Leyou summons the sect’s scattered successors 387 389.
The Demonic Gate and Exquisite Immortal Sect also return. While the Tianyan Sect conceals itself behind its Mountain-Guarding Grand Formation, the Immortals’ Alliance unsuccessfully searches for it 390 394.
The ancient Immortal Monarchs’ return creates a rare cultivation boom. Within a thousand years, several Golden Immortals attain Taiyi and several hundred Heavenly Immortals become Golden Immortals. Spiritual qi continues increasing over the following millennia, multiplying the cultivator population 394 421.
Rivalry and the Search for Refuge
After demonstrating its strength against the Myriad Immortals Alliance, the Tianyan Sect publicly returns from the void and settles atop the former ruins of the Immortal Music Pavilion 458.
Xu Changxing also expands a Grotto-Heaven at the Bottom of the Abyss as a refuge. He brings over immortals, their disciples, and recruits from Small Worlds; its population grows by tens of thousands during one recruitment effort 471 484.
The Alliance later invades this refuge with one hundred Taiyi Immortal Lords, several thousand Golden Immortals, and hundreds of thousands of Heavenly Immortals. Its formation imposes the Immortal Realm’s Great Dao over the local Slaughter Laws. Water Mirrors across the Immortal Realm reveal the confrontation 502 503.
Following the Alliance’s defeat, immortals seek contact with the Tianyan Sect, while additional sects consider relocating to the refuge 512 516.
Alternate Futures in Simulations
| Simulated Course | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Two Saints Mountain | Xu Changxing and Li Changge establish a mountain stronghold and defeat an allied immortal army organized by an Exquisite Immortal Sect Immortal Monarch 347. |
| Escalation against the Alliance | The Alliance awakens nearly one hundred Immortal Monarchs and eventually envelops the realm in a Heaven and Earth Grand Formation, blocking Xu Changxing’s return 416 417 418. |
| Assault on the world’s foundations | Xu Changxing enters the underlying Great Dao, absorbs shattered laws, and nearly causes the world to collapse, drawing out a Daluo Immortal Venerable 418. |
| Premature confrontation | Prolonged battles damage the realm’s Great Dao, spread spatial rifts, and bring the Final Tribulation early 474. |
Final Tribulation and Destruction
The Final Tribulation ultimately consumes the Immortal Realm and the Eye of the Great Dao in tribulation lightning. Xu Changxing’s body is destroyed, but his spirit enters the Gate of Samsara, and Tianyuan’s alteration of the Heavenly Dao Painting enables his survival 542.
Taiyi Dao Lord shatters the Eye of the Great Dao, releasing vitality that gives rise to countless new worlds and distributes world-creation merit 542.
