Background and History

Ancient conflict

The Alliance’s hostility toward the Tianyan Sect continues a struggle over the Great Dao dating back a million years. Yiyu Immortal Monarch associates that conflict with the Tianyan Sect’s proposal to reenact Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind, and with an upheaval that threatened to destroy immortals whose Daos were rooted in the Immortal Realm 393.

Many ancient experts survived by withdrawing from the present world. The Alliance’s strongest Immortal Monarchs remained Beyond the Heavens in True Spirit form to avoid being marked by the Great Dao too early; its Daluo Immortal Venerables likewise awaited their return 456.

The Alliance also participated in an ancient erasure of Tianyuan Immortal Venerable and the Tianyan Sect. Zhili later acknowledges that this made their memories hazy, but says another erasure occurred after he entered slumber, removing Tianyuan’s traces again 532.

Formation and confrontation with Xu Changxing

Green Lotus Immortal Monarch gathers the returned ancient immortals against the Tianyan Sect. Their joint proclamation makes the previously obscure sect known throughout the Immortal Realm within days 393 399.

The Alliance fails to prevent the Tianyan Sect’s escape when Xu Changxing combines a spatial formation with the Space-Time Great Dao. Green Lotus commits an emerald-green pearl to restrain the formation, prompting the other Immortal Monarchs to expend their own last-resort treasures 397 398.

Afterward, the Alliance concludes that Xu Changxing’s space-time and life-and-death powers make him almost impossible for peers to kill. Its leaders turn toward hastening the great tribulation so their Daluo Immortal Venerables can return 399.

Jingting incident and recognition of the Tianyan Sect

Immortal Monarch Jingting attempts to capture Li Changge and Jiang Yao, but Xu Changxing seals him inside a jade talisman. Xu orders its delivery to Green Lotus, declaring that Jingting must face the wall for ten thousand years. Daoist Wuchen later connects the Alliance’s search for the concealed Tianyan Sect to this incident 426 451.

When Green Lotus arrives with reinforcements, Xu Changxing’s Way of Destruction overwhelms their Dao arts and suppresses their forces. Green Lotus negotiates rather than accept further losses, offering recognition of the Tianyan Sect as a righteous immortal sect and cooperation against the Final Tribulation. He explicitly claims authority to bind the entire Alliance, including its returning Daluo Immortal Venerables 455 456.

The Alliance subsequently tolerates the Tianyan Sect’s public return to the Immortal Realm and sends an Immortal Monarch to its return ceremony 458 459.

Renewed conflict and peace treaty

After Xu Changxing kills Immortal Lord Zihao, Immortal Lords Lanyu and Jiuxu sign a new Peace Treaty and swear not to avenge him. Although they privately consider retaliation, Lanyu questions whether their Myriad Immortals Formation can defeat Xu with Zihao dead 481.

Jiuxu persuades Lanyu not to bring the Final Tribulation forward. They postpone settling their grievance until the tribulation descends, unaware that Xu has overheard them and deliberately concealed his full strength to discourage an all-out war 482.

Campaign against the Grotto-Heaven

The Alliance deliberately builds public condemnation of the Tianyan Sect, then channels it into a new Law supporting a punitive campaign. Publicly, it accuses the sect of monopolizing the Immortal Realm’s resources; privately, Jiuxu states that seizing its Grotto-Heaven offers the Alliance a chance to survive the Final Tribulation 501 503.

Its army opens a Spatial Passage to the Bottom of the Abyss and deploys the Myriad Immortals Grand Formation. Water Mirrors across the Immortal Realm show the confrontation. Despite its formations and Innate Spirit Treasures, the Alliance loses its initial advantage when Xu strengthens his allies through the Grotto-Heaven’s underlying Great Dao 502 503 506.

The Alliance escalates to a mass assault and direct intervention by Patriarch Tian Ge. Xu defeats Tian Ge, while High Person Sanshou suppresses Jiuxu’s Great Dao, ending organized resistance 506 508 511.

Immortal Venerable Zhili secures the prisoners’ release after several days of bargaining. The ransom consists of:

  • The Cloud-Binding Rope.
  • The Immortal-Dropping Banner.
  • Treasures worth ten million Origin Crystals.
  • A promise not to obstruct immigration from the Immortal Realm to Xu Changxing’s territory 514.

Tianyuan investigation and Zhili’s death

Xu Changxing later visits the Alliance to investigate Tianyuan’s disappearance, announcing that he wishes to discuss the Final Tribulation. Jiuxu attempts to handle the meeting himself, but Xu insists on speaking with Zhili 531.

Xu suppresses the Alliance with the Heavenly Dao Painting and confronts Zhili about Tianyuan. When Zhili refuses to explain the ancient conflict, Xu challenges him to battle Beyond the Heavens 532.

Xu subsequently kills the Alliance’s Daluo and destroys Zhili’s remnant divine soul after another refusal to reveal information. Jiuxu learns of his master’s death when Zhili’s Soul Jade shatters and his occupied Great Dao becomes vacant 538.

  • Immortal Lord Lanyu — Senior leader who negotiates alongside Jiuxu and orders deployment of the Cloudglow Serenity Jade Vase during the invasion 481 506.
  • Immortal Lord Zihao — His suppression of Tianyan Sect immortals provokes the confrontation that ends in his death and a new peace treaty 481.
  • Immortal Monarch Jingting — Attempts to seize Li Changge and Jiang Yao; sealed and returned to the Alliance by Xu Changxing 426.
  • Patriarch Tian Ge — Daluo Immortal Venerable who intervenes in the Grotto-Heaven campaign and is defeated by Xu Changxing 508 511.

Abilities and Resources

Myriad Immortals Grand Formation

The Alliance combines large numbers of immortals into a formation capable of reshaping the battlefield’s laws 502.

  • Replaces the Bottom of the Abyss’s Slaughter Laws with the Immortal Realm’s Great Dao within its illuminated area 502.
  • Enhances Jiuxu sufficiently to counter Li Changge’s repeated sword attacks 504.
  • Can contend with a Daluo when it is not occupied with offsetting the Grotto-Heaven’s Great Dao suppression 514.
  • Depends partly on the participating immortals’ morale: disappointment during the invasion slows its accumulation of momentum 504.
  • Is vulnerable to disruption when Xu resonates the Grotto-Heaven’s underlying Great Dao with the Tianyan Sect’s defenders 506.

Heavenly Dao Law Manipulation

The Alliance uses an Innate Spirit Treasure to guide public condemnation into a Law supporting its campaign 501 503.

  • Grants Alliance cultivators a several-minor-realm increase when fighting Tianyan Sect cultivators within the Immortal Realm 501.
  • Subjects Tianyan Sect opponents to Heavenly Dao suppression in the same territory 501.
  • Allows Jiuxu to hear discussions throughout the Immortal Realm through fluctuations in its Laws 501.
  • Uses the Order Pearl in conjunction with the grand formation to counter the Bottom of the Abyss’s terrain advantage 504.

Dormant Reserves

The Alliance’s active Immortal Monarchs represent only part of its strength. More formidable experts remain hidden Beyond the Heavens until circumstances justify their return 409 456.

  • Returning experts include supreme Immortal Monarchs, Half-Step Immortal Venerables, and Daluo Immortal Venerables 409 456.
  • Its leaders treat the return of the Daluo as a potential answer to Xu Changxing’s growth 399.
  • Large-scale killing and battles that damage the Great Dao risk advancing the Final Tribulation, constraining both the Alliance and its opponents 456 482.

Equipment and Treasures

  • Order Pearl — Supports the formation’s attempt to neutralize the Bottom of the Abyss’s environmental advantage 504.
  • Cloud-Binding Rope — A mysterious treasure long kept by the Alliance, reputed to bind all things beneath heaven, including an opponent’s body and Primordial Spirit. Surrendered as ransom after the invasion 500 514.
  • Immortal-Dropping Banner — Used during the Grotto-Heaven invasion; suppressed by Jiang Yao’s starlight and later surrendered as ransom 506 514.
  • Cloudglow Serenity Jade Vase — Immortal Venerable Liuli’s personal treasure, containing clouds and rosy mists from countless small worlds. Its fully released fog can cover millions of li; deploying it signals the Alliance’s all-out assault 500 506.
  • Alliance treasury — The ancient bounty for locating the Star River Pendant permitted the finder to choose three Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures from it 423.

External Relations

  • Tianyan Sect — Ancient Great Dao rival and principal enemy. Their relationship alternates between open warfare, recognition agreements, and temporary peace 393 456 481 501.
  • Xu Changxing — The Alliance’s chief military obstacle; defeats its expedition, extracts ransom, and later kills Zhili 511 514 538.
  • Demonic Gate — Historically persecuted by orthodox immortal sects. Devil Lord Lieyu rejects Green Lotus’s proposal to cooperate in hastening the tribulation, recalling the Demonic Gate’s ancient alignment with the Tianyan Sect 399.
  • Jiang Yao and the Star River Pendant — Sought for their connection to Wuyou Immortal Venerable and the Eye of the Great Dao, where the Alliance believes a means of surviving the Final Tribulation may exist 423.
  • Moonflower Sect — Avoids choosing sides before the Grotto-Heaven campaign’s outcome; its leaders consider seeking refuge with the Tianyan Sect after the Alliance’s defeat 501 511.

Role in Simulated Futures

These outcomes occur in Tianyan Pearl simulations and are distinct from the main timeline.

Simulation Alliance actions and outcome
Small World pursuit Tracks Xu Changxing as he extracts Small Worlds’ Great Dao laws, repeatedly interrupting his cultivation efforts and attempting ambushes 403 404.
Green Lotus counterambush Loses Green Lotus and three Taiyi Immortal Lords to a prepared Tianyan Sect ambush. Its subsequent siege fails, prompting negotiations over Small World refining 408 409.
Reinforcement and surveillance network Awakens more than twenty supreme Immortal Monarchs and drives the Tianyan Sect into the void. Establishes nearly ten thousand formations resonating with Heavenly Tribulation laws to monitor movement and restrict spatial escape 409 410 411.
Maximum-reserve test After Xu attacks its forces and headquarters, nearly a hundred Immortal Monarchs return together, including at least three Half-Step Immortal Venerables. They form a Great Dao Cage and force the Tianyan Sect to flee 416 417.
Realm-wide blockade Plans a Heaven and Earth Grand Formation with the Eye of the Great Dao as its core. As completion approaches, its suppression prevents the Tianyan Sect from effectively returning to the Immortal Realm 417.
Negotiated coexistence Maintains its agreement despite the return of nearly a hundred Immortal Monarchs. Exchanges with the Alliance reveal Jiang Yao’s identity as a reincarnated spirit treasure, but Xu conceals her whereabouts 460.
Zihao confrontation Uses Zihao to test Xu’s strength, then deploys hundreds of Immortal Monarchs in a formation spanning millions of li. The prolonged battle damages the Great Dao and threatens to bring the Final Tribulation early 473 474.
Attack during Xu’s absence Destroys the Tianyan Sect’s mountain gate and imprisons disciples in a Small World. Xu’s retaliation kills Zihao and many reinforcements, but the Alliance retains its prisoners through a prolonged standoff 475 476.

Xu notes that the simulation involving nearly a hundred returning Immortal Monarchs strains the Tianyan Pearl and may distort some details, though he considers the projected realm-wide formation broadly credible 417.
