History

Before Xuantou’s Leadership

The Uchiha inherited Indra’s bloodline and maintained a long rivalry with the Senju. Hashirama describes the founding of Konoha as the two clans setting aside two thousand years of hatred to escape a world where children routinely died in battle 323 471.

During the Warring States period, the clan exploited Uchiha Hikari as a weapon. Her campaigns became so destructive that rival clans united under Senju leadership and sealed her away 413.

Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju founded Konoha together, and Naka Shrine moved there with the clan. When Madara later urged the Uchiha to leave, they refused because they had grown accustomed to the village’s peaceful life. He departed with the remains of his father Tajima and brother Izuna 25 371.

Leadership Succession and the Third Shinobi World War

The serving clan head died in battle after naming Fugaku acting head. Xuantou entered the succession contest while establishing himself as the clan’s representative before Konoha’s leadership 3.

Xuantou committed three hundred elite military police personnel to the Sunagakure front. His victory forced Sunagakure to pay reparations and ended the Third Shinobi World War, improving the standing of a clan long treated as Konoha’s “problem clan” 12 22 26. The subsequent leadership contest pitted him against Fugaku; Xuantou later appears as the confirmed clan head 27 74.

Nine-Tails Crisis and Escalating Persecution

Before the Nine-Tails catastrophe, Xuantou relocated most clan members to a town outside Konoha. Three hundred military police under Fugaku and the clan’s Anbu remained behind 43.

The returning procession numbered over three thousand, with no clan members lost in the disaster. Villagers nevertheless blamed the Uchiha and demanded compensation. Shisui awakened his Mangekyō while wishing to change their minds, and Inabi’s faction urged Xuantou to launch a coup 50.

Meanwhile, the clan’s independent Mission Hall and Ninja Academy increased its wealth and autonomy. Danzō advocated arresting Xuantou and eliminating the clan; Hiruzen authorized him to handle the situation while warning against provoking open rebellion 74.

Departure and Founding of Hidden Xuan Village

After Xuantou killed Danzō, the confrontation escalated into fighting against Konoha’s Anbu. Xuantou, Shisui, and Fugaku fielded three Susanoo, and Xuantou formally declared the Uchiha’s withdrawal from Konoha despite mediation attempts by Shikaku and Inoichi 82 84.

Shisui used Kotoamatsukami to make the Land of Hot Water’s daimyō, Adachi Yuto, loyal to Xuantou. Xuantou then used a Family Migration Card to transport the entire compound—including its foundations, streets, walls, and trees—to land beside Azure Tide Port. The clan founded Hidden Xuan Village and adopted its fan crest for the village’s forehead protectors 86 89.

Rise as an Independent Power

Azure Tide Port’s transport links helped the Uchiha attract high-ranking commissions. Ninja earned nearly twice their former Konoha income, while housing, shops, and the clan population expanded rapidly 105 107.

Kumogakure attempted to force compensation and a permanent thirty-percent share of Hidden Xuan’s mission payments. Its thousand-strong expedition instead faced two hundred Uchiha Anbu supported by three Susanoo. The campaign ended with Yugito captured and the Raikage paying a substantial ransom 107 108 111 126.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Uchiha escorts developed such a reputation that bandits, rogue ninja, and regular armies avoided their missions. Their completion rate approached one hundred percent 126.

Xuantou subsequently became daimyō of the Land of Hot Water. The Uchiha’s intervention against Kumogakure then ended the war threatening the Land of Fire within half a month, prompting Sunagakure and Iwagakure to withdraw. Konoha’s clan leaders recognized the Land of Hot Water as the shinobi world’s sixth great nation 149 165.

Return to Konoha

Under Tsunade, Konoha and Hidden Xuan developed cooperation in missions, training, and intelligence. Later, Konoha’s clan leaders welcomed a proposed merger with Xuanyin despite Hiruzen’s objections. Uchiha-crested flags and Xuanyin reconstruction teams became widespread throughout Konoha 190 318 371.

Nearly twenty years after the departure, Xuantou led almost the entire clan in a ceremony returning ancestral burial plots to a rebuilt estate on their original Konoha grounds. The ceremony fulfilled the wishes of older members who had longed to return to their homeland 454.
