Appearance
- Build: Broad-shouldered and heavily muscular, with a rugged face and thick hair 22 23 26.
- Clothing: Wears a dark Kyoto Jujutsu High uniform over a tight black undershirt. He sometimes removes the jacket and carries it over his shoulder 22 26.
- Combat appearance: Fights bare-chested during the Mount Yoshida encounter. The cuts he receives there are later healed without scars by Wangchuan 29 30 32.
Personality
Todo is boisterous, blunt, and intensely attracted to strong opponents. He mocks a Grade 1 cursed spirit while overpowering it and eagerly anticipates testing himself against Wangchuan, whose defenses are reputedly almost impossible to penetrate. His enthusiasm for combat persists even while he is wounded and surrounded by three Special Grades 22 26 29.
His bravado does not prevent him from protecting his teammates or recognizing danger. On Mount Yoshida, he sends Kasumi Miwa and Mai Zenin away while remaining behind to occupy the cursed spirits. After the enemies counter his technique, he openly acknowledges their intelligence and strength 29 30.
Outside combat, Todo enthusiastically follows idols and pries into his teacher’s private life. He calls Takada “the most perfect woman in the world” and persuades Mai to follow Utahime Iori and Wangchuan through Gion. His admiration for strength also shapes his friendships: after Wangchuan rescues him, Todo immediately begins calling him “brother” 23 24 30 31.
Abilities & Skills
Boogie Woogie
Todo uses Boogie Woogie to exchange positions through a clap, turning the placement of enemies and cursed tools into tactical opportunities 29 30.
- Enemy substitution: Swaps himself with the mirror cursed spirit, causing the shadow cursed spirit’s incoming blade to strike its ally instead 29.
- Evasion: Exchanges places with a blade left in the ground to escape a barrage of mirror shards 29.
- Prepared positioning: Memorizes the locations of cursed tools scattered around the shrine so he can use them during the fight 29.
- Limits shown: The mirror cursed spirit destroys nearly all his usable tool targets. A subsequent ambush lands before he has time to clap again 30.
Strength and Close-Quarters Combat
Todo relies on powerful punches, rapid movement, and direct physical pressure 22 29.
- Sends a Grade 1 cursed spirit through two utility poles and later into the wall of an abandoned building 22.
- Destroys that spirit with a single backward punch when it attacks from behind 22.
- Caves in part of the flesh cursed spirit’s body and drives it four or five meters backward 29.
- Produces shock waves strong enough to knock Mai’s gunshots off course, interfering with her support fire 22.
Combat Awareness and Endurance
Todo combines quick reactions with battlefield observation, but the three Special Grades eventually overwhelm him 29 30.
- Recognizes the mirror cursed spirit’s reflective properties and notices a Special Grade cursed object inside it; Wangchuan identifies the object as Sukuna’s Finger 29 30.
- Continues fighting despite cuts, a shoulder wound, and impacts that send him through a tree 29 30.
- Holds the enemies’ attention long enough for Miwa and Mai to retreat 29.
- Requires Wangchuan’s rescue and healing after the enemies restrict his swapping options and land a coordinated attack 30.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Battlefield cursed tools: Uses blades, daggers, guns, and other cursed tools left around the shrine by his teammates as Boogie Woogie swap targets. These are not established as his personal possessions 29.
- Kasumi Miwa’s katana: His last remaining tool-based swap target after the mirror cursed spirit clears the battlefield; he exchanges places with it to evade a dark beam 30.
- Takada handshake-event ticket: Already owns a ticket for an upcoming Kyoto event when he invites Mai to accompany him 23.
History
Kyoto Mission and Gion
Todo first appears on July 15 in Kyoto, fighting a Grade 1 cursed spirit alongside Mai Zenin. His overwhelming attacks repeatedly disrupt Mai’s aim. While warning her about Tokyo Jujutsu High’s strength at the September Goodwill Event, he casually destroys the spirit when it attempts a surprise attack 22.
After the mission, Todo and Mai spot Utahime with Wangchuan in Gion. Todo declares that their teacher is on a date and encourages Mai to follow them. Seeing Utahime blush and allow Wangchuan to touch her face convinces him that Wangchuan must be strong; he resolves to introduce himself at the Goodwill Event 23 24.
Mount Yoshida
The jujutsu higher-ups assign Momo Nishimiya, Miwa, and Mai to investigate a cursed womb on Mount Yoshida, intending to pressure Wangchuan into intervening through his concern for Utahime. Suspicious of the assignment, Principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji personally adds Todo to the team and orders him to take the lead 25 26.
The mission becomes a battle against three Special Grade cursed spirits. Todo uses Boogie Woogie to redirect their attacks and cover his teammates’ escape, but the enemies learn how his technique works and eliminate most of his prepared swap targets. Wangchuan arrives as Todo is being thrown backward, cushions his fall, and heals his injuries 28 29 30.
Todo calls his rescuer “brother” and proposes fighting together. Wangchuan instead tells him to rest, then destroys all three spirits with All Things Return. Astonished by the display, Todo celebrates his improved understanding of jujutsu and renews his vow to defeat Tokyo at the Goodwill Event 30 31.
Goodwill Event Preparations
Following the rescue, Todo joins Utahime, Wangchuan, and the Kyoto students for dinner. Later, he invites Wangchuan to the training grounds. By Chapter 46, Wangchuan reports that Todo has enthusiastically embraced Kyoto’s gravity-field training, using his dedication as a warning against complacency among the Tokyo students 32 33 35 46.
