Power Progression

Background / History

Arrival and bounty hunting

Before entering the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Wangchuan was an ordinary corporate worker. His system supplied Tso Lan’s template immediately after his arrival, overwhelming him with unfamiliar knowledge and memories. He collapsed outside Jujutsu High, where Utahime Iori helped him during the ensuing commotion 1 24.

Wangchuan subsequently worked as a bounty hunter. While vacationing in Miami, he accepted Gojo’s offer of 100 million yen to exorcise a hospital curse in Tokyo. He defeated Eclipse without injury, but received no fusion progress because the spirit was too weak to qualify 1 3 4.

Joining Jujutsu High

After returning to Japan, Wangchuan met Yuta Okkotsu and briefly restrained Rika with gravity before reassuring Yuta that he meant no harm. Gojo asked him to become someone the students could rely on, and Wangchuan agreed to join Jujutsu High in name under favorable terms 7 8 9.

Mei Mei then offered him 1.5 billion yen for a Special Grade mission at a commercial complex. Defeating Hōzō increased his template fusion to 35%. Suguru Geto approached him afterward with an invitation to join the Time Vessel Association, which Wangchuan declined by demanding 600 billion yen in cash—a sum Geto could not provide 10 15.

Sendai and dealings with Geto

In Sendai, Wangchuan recognized Yuji Itadori and anticipated the appearance of Sukuna’s finger. Yuji intervened when delinquents attempted to rob him, unaware that Wangchuan needed no protection. The two became acquainted and spent time exploring the city 17 18.

Wangchuan also sold Geto a mirror capable of imprisoning cursed spirits. During their conversation, he acknowledged both Geto’s killings and his rescue of Mimiko and Nanako. He refused to claim that he understood Geto’s despair, but condemned Geto’s willingness to turn against his own family 18 20 21.

Kyoto and Mount Yoshida

Wangchuan visited Utahime in Kyoto and offered to remove her facial scar, which he later successfully healed. Meanwhile, the Jujutsu Higher-Ups deliberately assigned her students a dangerous cursed-womb mission, expecting his attachment to Utahime to draw him into intervening 24 25 34.

When three Special Grade Cursed Spirits threatened the students on Mount Yoshida, Wangchuan flew to their aid, healed Aoi Todo, and destroyed all three with All Things Return. He recovered Sukuna’s finger from the mirror spirit. Kenjaku later examined the resulting crater and identified the extraordinary precision of Wangchuan’s gravitational compression 28 30 31 33.

Resurrection plans and the Death Paintings

Wangchuan’s resurrection knowledge attracted interest from Yuta and Kento Nanami, who sought help concerning Rika and Haibara respectively. Wangchuan confirmed that resurrection was possible, while emphasizing conditions involving the soul and, for his plans concerning Haibara, the need for Xirang from the moon 37 43 46.

He exchanged Sukuna’s finger for the nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings and deliberately publicized his resurrection abilities through Mei Mei. His goal was to attract wealthy, powerful clients rather than conceal his abilities from them 43 44.

After retrieving Xirang from deep within the moon, Wangchuan used it and the Moon Demon’s Demonic Energy to remake Choso as a human. Choso accepted tasks from him in exchange for the prospect of his brothers living happily as humans. Wangchuan later offered information about Choso’s tenth brother as an additional incentive 49 50.

Appearance

• Human form: Tall, handsome, and youthful enough to be mistaken for a student despite being almost 25. His everyday clothing includes casual T-shirts and trousers; he wears a black T-shirt and black trousers when arriving at Mount Yoshida 17 29.
• Demon form: Pale-blue skin, blood-red eyes, pointed ears, fangs, a long tongue, and purplish-black hair longer than his body. He has four arms—a large pair at the shoulders and a smaller pair beneath the armpits—and wears long red-and-purple hanfu robes 48 49.
• Partial transformation: Can alter only part of his face, briefly displaying a demonic eye, pale skin, and an elongated tongue without fully transforming 44.

Personality

Wangchuan habitually presents himself as lazy, irreverent, and mercenary. He negotiates aggressively, teases Gojo, and mocks dangerous cursed spirits while barely changing his relaxed posture. His pursuit of money has a practical purpose: legitimate earnings directly fund his template progression 1 4 10.

His claim that money matters more than people does not fully match his actions. Gojo openly challenges this façade; Wangchuan gives Inumaki a custom Special Grade tool for free, rescues the Kyoto students, and pursues resurrection partly because he does not want to lose people he cares about 8 28 42.

His compassion is selective rather than universal. He tells Geto that he does not care whether most people live or die and admits that, in Geto’s position, he might have killed even more people. Family loyalty is a firmer boundary: he states that he could not turn his back on his own family 20 21.

Transformation affects more than his appearance. In Tso Lan’s body, his speech becomes formal and elder-like, and his thoughts, emotions, and memories shift. After returning to human form, he describes the experience as leaving his head in a mess, as though he had merged with another soul 48 49.
