Ch. 152The Clown

Xiaren awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan after the Capital’s ministers mocked the Uchiha, then used its Genjutsu to send them, including the Daimyō, dancing through the streets. The Third Hokage summoned Fugaku and Uchiha Yan to deal with the fallout, and Yan proposed staging Xiaren’s death to appease the Daimyō.

Ch. 159Four Kage Attack

Danzo joined the Third Hokage’s battle against the four Kage, then left to support Konoha before turning back when he realized the Third might sacrifice himself. The Third began a deadly technique to buy Danzo time, and Ōnoki ordered the others to kill him.

  • Yamanaka Fū warned Danzo that the Third Hokage was fighting the other four Kage alone, so Danzo led Root to support him.
  • Danzo revealed that he had killed the Land of Fire’s daimyō and ministers and planned to become its daimyō, while the other Kage admitted their own ambitions and grievances against their rulers.
  • The Third used the Adamantine Staff Shadow Clone Technique, injuring the four Kage and ordering Danzo to return to Konoha.
  • Danzo headed back toward the village, then turned around and ordered Yamanaka Fū to take the others onward while he returned to check on the Third.

  • Ōnoki, the Fourth Raikage, and Rasa reached Konoha and found Root fighting at the village entrance, then prepared to attack the village.
  • Uchiha Mikoto appeared above the gates, challenged the three leaders, and activated the Uchiha secret technique Non-Attack.

Ch. 161Do you think you can destroy Konoha?

Hyuga Taichi drove the allied forces away from Konoha, then sent the Eight Trigrams Formation to strike Iwagakure's camp in the Land of Grass. Utakata abandoned the fight at Nange Town to reinforce Kirigakure, then returned with a Tailed Beast Bomb as the exhausted armies faced a sudden attack.

  • Tsunade learned that Jiraiya had gone to reinforce Uchiha Yan and asked Xiaren to help her overcome her fear of blood.
  • Xiaren used his Mangekyō Sharingan to make Tsunade see blood as water, then Tsunade intercepted the Raikage while Xiaren engaged Ōnoki.
  • Genji ordered Utakata to withdraw and help kill Xiaren, Ōnoki, and the Raikage, prioritizing the Six-Tails and Kirigakure's survival.
  • Utakata fled Uchiha Yan's attack and hurried to the Jinghai Town battlefield, where both sides were nearly out of chakra.
  • Utakata launched a Tailed Beast Bomb at the battlefield, and Xiaren shielded Tsunade with his pale golden Susanoo as Danzo and Mitokado Homura ran inside it.

Ch. 163Rasa, Ōnoki, and Mitokado Homura Die

Ch. 164Mangekyō Sharingan Transformation Technique

Xiaren used a Mangekyō Sharingan technique to transform and defeat Utakata, forcing Kirigakure to withdraw so Konoha could defeat Iwagakure. The battle ended with news that the Four-Tails and Five-Tails had devastated Konoha’s forces in the Land of Grass, leaving Shisui gravely crippled as Jiraiya confronted Kitsuchi.

  • Itachi distracted Utakata with genjutsu while Xiaren pinned him with Susanoo, but Utakata’s acidic cloak began melting Susanoo.
  • Xiaren attacked the Kirigakure ninja, and Mei Terumi and Raiga knocked him down; Utakata threw him into the air as Kakashi sacrificed his right arm to save him.
  • Surrounded by the Raikage, Utakata, and Mei, Xiaren unleashed the Mangekyō Sharingan Transformation Technique, transformed with flaming wings and swords, and incapacitated Utakata with Divine Judgment.
  • Xiaren tried to pursue the fleeing Raikage, but his transformation ended; Tsunade caught him and handed Utakata over to Genji in exchange for Kirigakure’s withdrawal.
  • Konoha defeated the remaining Iwagakure forces, while reports revealed the Four-Tails and Five-Tails had inflicted severe losses in the Land of Grass and left Shisui crippled.
  • Jiraiya, surveying the devastation from atop a toad, told Kitsuchi to end the fight.

Ch. 165Kitsuchi retreated

Kitsuchi agreed to withdraw, but Kirigakure attacked Tsunade’s group to kill Uchiha Itachi, forcing Danzo to sacrifice himself so they could escape. At Nange Town, Uchiha Yan defeated the Two-Tails and drove off the Seven-Tails, leaving the battle’s outcome unresolved.

  • After hearing the casualty reports and being reminded of the threats still in play, Kitsuchi accepted Jiraiya’s offer to return his father’s body and ordered Iwagakure to withdraw.
  • Jiraiya learned Kirigakure had surrounded Tsunade’s group to kill Uchiha Itachi and went to help them.

  • At Nange Town, Uchiha Yan explained how his combined arts restored his energy and tricked the Two-Tails into losing her transformation, then killed Yugito Nii.
  • The Seven-Tails abandoned the fight and flew toward Takigakure, and Uchiha Yan abruptly turned around as if sensing something.

Ch. 166No winners

Uchiha Yan and the Raikage ended their exhausted confrontation after a devastating war that left the Five Great Shinobi Villages and their leaders shattered. As Konoha mourned its dead, Obito and Black Zetsu faced the loss of the tailed beasts, while Inabi and Orochimaru remained sealed with the mysterious Uchiha Hikari.

  • Uchiha Yan taunted the Raikage about Yugito’s death and Killer B’s disappearance, then both men agreed to withdraw because they had run out of chakra.
  • Uchiha Yan reflected that the war had no winners, while Obito and Black Zetsu argued over the missing tailed beasts and the impossible seals holding them.
  • Inabi met Uchiha Hikari inside the Uchiha Sealing Grounds, and she excitedly searched for Boruto, whom she believed had come from the future.
  • Orochimaru reassured Inabi and Hikari that Kabuto might complete experiments involving Uzumaki blood and the Byakugan, while Hikari insisted she wanted Boruto to have a child immediately.
  • The war’s end sparked struggles for power among city lords, and Uchiha Yan returned to Konoha as the village grieved its dead.

Ch. 167A loving father and a dutiful son

Uchiha Yan agreed to become Hokage after proposing five-year elections and a process for removing a Hokage who made serious mistakes. Later, Obito Uchiha sought the tailed beasts to pursue the Sage of Six Paths’ path to peace, and Yan told him where he might search while warning that the future was uncertain.

  • Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Koharu supported Uchiha Yan as Hokage after Danzo died protecting them and Itachi.

  • Uchiha Yan returned to the Uchiha Clan Compound and found Uchiha Haruna joking with Xiaren about his blindness and battlefield exploits.
  • Obito Uchiha revealed his Mangekyō Sharingan and demanded to know how to find the Three-Tails and the Eight-Tails.
  • Uchiha Yan told Obito where to look for the Shinigami Mask and suggested using the Ryuumyaku to find Boruto Uzumaki, but warned that the future might have changed.

Ch. 168The reason for slaughtering the bloodlines

Uchiha Yan became Konoha’s Fifth Hokage and defended his decision to kill the Daimyō and his bloodline as part of ending noble rule and reforming the Shinobi World. As the war devastated the villages, Konoha prepared for reforms while civilian armies and city lords began fighting over power.

  • Uchiha Yan told Obito that Kakashi’s eye could be restored and his Mangekyō Sharingan awakened, but decided to keep the Three-Tails and Eight-Tails sealed away for now.
  • At Konoha’s Hokage selection meeting, Hiashi, Shikaku, and most of the Jonin nominated and supported Uchiha Yan.
  • Asuma challenged Uchiha Yan over slaughtering the Daimyō’s bloodline, and Uchiha Yan argued that ending noble rule was necessary for equality and political reform.
  • Uchiha Yan presented a five-year plan for Konoha, including funding, institutional reforms, and wider access to ninjutsu.
  • Mei Terumi became the Fifth Mizukage, Kitsuchi was positioned to succeed Ōnoki, and Baki took charge of Sunagakure until Gaara grew up.
  • The weakened shinobi villages withdrew from conflicts as city lords recruited Ninja, samurai, and civilian armies to compete for the Daimyō positions.

Ch. 169Kabuto Yakushi

Obito recruited Kabuto Yakushi to research the Jōgan and help recover the sealed tailed beasts, then sought a way to undo the Dead Demon Consuming Seal. Black Zetsu rejected Obito’s plan to make him learn the jutsu, and they settled on grooming Sakura Haruno to learn it and release the Three-Tails.

  • Obito found Kabuto Yakushi at Orochimaru’s base and asked about the Dead Demon Consuming Seal and the Jōgan.
  • Kabuto agreed to research the Jōgan in exchange for test subjects, Uchiha Yan’s books, and support in finding Orochimaru; Obito promised to help and gave him the books.
  • Kabuto gave Obito an Impure World Reincarnation scroll and proposed using Boruto Uzumaki’s bones to rescue Orochimaru and the others, but Obito refused to provide Boruto’s corpse.
  • Obito returned to his base with a scroll for undoing the Dead Demon Consuming Seal and urged Black Zetsu to learn it, but Black Zetsu refused because the jutsu required a soul and sealing talent.
  • Black Zetsu proposed that Sakura Haruno learn sealing jutsu and later be controlled with Sharingan genjutsu to release the Three-Tails, and Obito agreed to the plan.

Ch. 170It cost nothing to try

Obito returned to Konoha and watched Neji defeat Rock Lee in the graduation exam before heading to Sakura Haruno’s bedside with the Sealing Jutsu. At Kakashi’s bedside, Uchiha Yan failed to persuade him to try a dangerous injection and continued looking for a way to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

  • Obito saw that Konoha’s eastern side had been demolished and went to the Ninja Academy to observe the graduation exam.
  • Neji defeated Rock Lee with his Eight Trigrams Formation: Weak Water, and Rock Lee vowed to surpass him.
  • Obito left the exam to deliver the Sealing Jutsu to Sakura Haruno and check on Kakashi.
  • Uchiha Yan tried to convince Kakashi to accept an injection by promising possible powers and offering him novels, but Kakashi refused.
  • Uchiha Yan left Kakashi alone and considered ways to restore his inherited Mangekyō Sharingan and awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

Ch. 171Tidal power generation technology

Uchiha Yan negotiated with Hozuki Yae over Kirigakure's tidal power generation technology and proposed building a factory in Jinghai Town. After Konoha's leaders debated the proposal, Utatane Koharu supported Jinghai Town while warning that Konoha needed safeguards against Kirigakure breaking an agreement.

  • Uchiha Yan told Shikaku to assign the new Genin as planned, place Neji with the Taijutsu group, and prepare to resume missions after Yamato completed the Eight New Districts.
  • Hozuki Yae offered Kirigakure's tidal power generation technology in exchange for Konoha teaching materials, teachers, exchanges between young shinobi, and thirty percent of related profits.
  • Uchiha Yan asked Kirigakure to decide its aims and sent Hozuki Yae back with a letter for the Mizukage, inviting him to discuss matters in Jinghai Town.
  • Uchiha Yan convened Konoha's leaders, who debated the technology's usefulness; Uchiha Itachi and Asuma supported exploring it, while others questioned the need and practicality.
  • Uchiha Yan proposed establishing the Konoha Factory in Jinghai Town and growing grain on the nearby plain, and Utatane Koharu agreed the location was suitable but urged safeguards against Kirigakure breaking the contract.

Ch. 172A perfect match

Uchiha Yan proposed an engagement with Mei Terumi as a way to bind Konoha and Kirigakure together, then tasked village leaders with creating an Economic Development Department and finding a leader for Root. Mei Terumi and her advisers debated Kirigakure’s future and agreed to meet Yan in Jinghai Town before deciding whether to pursue control of the Land of Water or remain dependent on its Daimyō.

  • Uchiha Yan argued that his engagement to Mei Terumi would make Konoha and Kirigakure one family and secure Kirigakure’s help protecting Konoha’s businesses in Jinghai Town.
  • Uchiha Yan ordered Shikaku Nara, Uchiha Itachi, and Asuma to organize an Economic Development Department, while Utatane Koharu raised the unresolved question of Root’s leadership.
  • Uchiha Yan rejected Root’s former members as leaders and considered, then abandoned, the idea of using Obito Uchiha; he also urged Shibi Aburame to reconsider taking the position.
  • Mei Terumi asked Ao what Kirigakure wanted, and her advisers disagreed over whether the village should become the Daimyō of the Land of Water or simply seek funding from whoever held the title.
  • Mei Terumi agreed to meet Uchiha Yan in Jinghai Town before deciding Kirigakure’s course, and she brought the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist while Yan traveled with Asuma and Shinichi Hyūga.

Ch. 173Engagement

Uchiha Yan met Mei Terumi in Jinghai Town to negotiate cooperation between Konoha and Kirigakure, offering her several deals and proposing an engagement to protect their alliance. Mei Terumi questioned his motives, and the chapter ended with Yan explaining the strategic value of a marriage alliance and suggesting they could choose another candidate.

  • Uchiha Yan tried to recruit Asuma as a team instructor, and Asuma reluctantly agreed.
  • Uchiha Yan welcomed Mei Terumi and the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist with a candlelit dinner, then presented two proposals for Kirigakure's cooperation with Konoha.
  • Mei Terumi rejected Yan's terms for tidal power technology and chose the option that would let Kirigakure keep its technology in exchange for a deal.
  • Uchiha Yan offered Kirigakure access to Konoha's techniques and training, then shocked everyone by asking Mei Terumi to get engaged to him.
  • Zabuza attacked Yan after he mocked him, but Yan blocked the great sword and explained that their engagement would deter other villages and ease hostility between Konoha and Kirigakure.
  • Mei Terumi challenged Yan's talk of becoming his wife, and he said they could choose someone else if Kirigakure had a candidate for the next Mizukage.

Ch. 174Pakkun

Mei Terumi announced her engagement to Uchiha Yan, and both leaders recognized that their alliance could benefit their villages. As other shinobi villages began gathering intelligence, Kakashi tried to quit being a ninja, but Pakkun offered him a mysterious vial that Kakashi suspected contained Hashirama cells.

  • Mei Terumi insisted she would marry Uchiha Yan after stepping down as Mizukage, and he gave her information on Water Release and arranged for an alliance agreement and help building Jinghai Town.
  • Mei told Mangetsu and Kisame that the engagement would help Kirigakure recover and secure Konoha's support, while Uchiha Yan saw the alliance as a way to spread his influence in the Land of Water.
  • News of the engagement spread, and Dodai advised the Raikage to focus on ending the Land of Lightning's civil war and making money before pursuing military strength.
  • The Five Great Shinobi Villages began gathering intelligence again, while Kakashi decided to quit being a ninja and find Jiraiya to write novels with him.
  • Pakkun objected to Kakashi quitting and gave him a vial of two drops of blood; Kakashi recognized it as possibly containing Hashirama cells and feared Pakkun was trying to kill him.

Ch. 175You really are a dog

Pakkun forced Kakashi to swallow blood from the Ninja Cat Clan, triggering a dangerous surge of yang energy that Neji and Hinata stabilized with their Yin-Yang Grinding Wheel. Kakashi awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, then discovered White Zetsu spies beneath his room.

  • Pakkun and the other ninja dogs tackled Kakashi and fed him the blood, causing blue chakra to erupt from his body.
  • Uchiha Kiyoshi used an Ancient Zither to mobilize Kakashi’s yin energy while Uchiha Izumi fetched Neji and Hinata.
  • Neji and Hinata used the Yin-Yang Grinding Wheel to balance Kakashi’s energies, and Kakashi awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Kakashi revived and struck Pakkun with Chidori after Pakkun asked to use his eye, then wondered whether he had Uchiha blood.
  • White Zetsu and another spy watched from underground until Hinata exposed them, and Kakashi identified them as agents known to the Hokage.
