Background

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as the sect leader's son, but was later cast out. His uncle Yu Luomian regards him as a disgrace to the clan for his weakness and use of the family name to bolster his reputation. 88

His Three-Eyed Toad martial soul left him unable to advance beyond Level 3 for much of his life. Xiao Yu later argues that the martial soul's weak mutation resulted from Yu Xiaogang choosing incompatible lightning-attribute soul rings, rather than following a route that could have led to a positive dragon-type evolution. 5

He was once Liu Erlong's lover. Liu Erlong remained in love with him for years and founded Blue Tyrant Academy partly to escape her family and the pain surrounding their relationship. 27 52

Yu Xiaogang became Tang San's teacher and tied his own hopes of vindication to Tang San's talent, particularly Tang San's Twin Martial Souls. He repeatedly treats Tang San's potential as proof that he will eventually establish himself as a true “Master.” 88 90 104

His self-worth becomes increasingly tied to Tang San's success. When Xiao Yu's achievements undermine his confidence, Yu Xiaogang retreats into fantasies of Tang San eventually surpassing him through the Clear Sky Hammer and Twin Martial Souls. 89 90

After discovering a possible evolution path for Three-Eyed Toad, his ambition hardens into resentment. He imagines regaining status, forcing Liu Erlong to regret leaving him, and retaliating against Xiao Yu. 186

Conflict with Xiao Yu

Yu Xiaogang becomes fixated on Xiao Yu after seeing the latter's exceptional cultivation and resemblance to the potential evolution of Three-Eyed Toad. During the academy competition, he confidently predicts Xiao Yu's defeat by Canghui Academy's Seven Asura Illusions, only for Xiao Yu to reveal six ten-thousand-year soul rings and decisively break the fusion skill. 148 149

His resentment deepens as Xiao Yu's power exposes the gap between them. Yu Xiaogang tries to arrange for other students to exhaust Xiao Yu before Tang San faces him, disregarding their safety; Flender rejects the plan. 168

After reaching Level 50, Yu Xiaogang enters the City of Slaughter in search of more Evil Spirit Masters to devour. He quickly proves unable to survive through strength alone, is beaten by Fallen Ones, and relies on his Red Bishop identity for protection. 278 282

His corruption becomes public when Wang Xing accuses him of driving Wang Lingling to suicide after she resisted his advances, then draining her blood and Soul Power. 285

Later, after the King of Slaughter's schemes collapse, Yu Xiaogang begs Bibi Dong to save him. Bibi Dong declares that she came to kill both the King of Slaughter and Yu Xiaogang, leaving him terrified and unable to comprehend her rejection. 322
