Background / History
Tang San studied under Yu Xiaogang at Nuoding Academy. During an early Soul Hunting Forest expedition, Yu Xiaogang ordered a retreat from the Ghost Vine, causing Tang San to resent his teacher’s lack of strength before suppressing those thoughts. An unknown Tang Hao then destroyed the Ghost Vine, depriving Tang San of its yellow soul ring and provoking Tang San’s vow of vengeance against the perceived thief. His criticism of the academy headmaster subsequently led to his expulsion from Nuoding Academy. 33 34 35
While cultivating the Mysterious Heaven Skill, Tang San suffered a violent backlash, coughing blood and collapsing; Xiao Wu and Yu Xiaogang cared for him through the night. Later, the Death Poison Spider prepared as his third soul ring was claimed by Xiao Yu’s party and absorbed by Meng Yiran instead. 25 26 101 102
His rivalry with Xiao Yu increasingly centered on Xiao Wu and Tang San’s determination to surpass him. Yu Xiaogang advised him to postpone adding rings to the Clear Sky Hammer until his foundation was stronger, arguing that Tang San could eventually equip both martial souls with high-grade rings. 104
Personality
Tang San is intensely ambitious and persistent. Setbacks—including lost spirit rings, defeat, and the destruction of his Clear Sky Hammer—consistently drive him toward harsher training or more dangerous means of increasing his strength. 34 138 254 288
His devotion to Xiao Wu is a central motivation, but it also destabilizes him. He repeatedly seeks to reclaim her from Xiao Yu, becomes vulnerable to illusions involving her, and later attempts to forcibly take her away despite her protests. 151 153 378 419
When desperate, Tang San can become ruthless toward both enemies and allies. His Blue Silver Grass drains life force and Soul Power, and he forcibly siphoned his teammates’ Soul Power—and then their life force—to raise his Clear Sky Hammer’s strength during the tournament. 123 214 345
