Background
The Immortal Clan originated on Earth during the Third Epoch. Its founder, Taishang, created the Immortal Arts and united practitioners of those arts into the Immortal Clan. Membership encompassed multiple races rather than humans alone 251 565 569.
When the Immortal Clan entered All Heavens, the Dao Ancestor drew together three thousand Great Worlds from across space-time and merged them into the Immortal Realm. Gou Daoren subsequently left Xuanming a recording explaining that the clan had a new home, together with a wisp of the realm’s aura to guide her eventual ascension 252 417.
The realm expanded its influence by sending immortals to other worlds to establish sects, teach cultivation methods, and construct ascension formations. Even after its territorial expansion stopped, additional worlds continued to be drawn into its sphere of influence. The resulting stream of ascenders helped make it the most powerful super-realm in All Heavens 482 487.
Geography
Scale and Subsidiary Worlds
Cui Yu describes the Immortal Realm as larger than the Ghost Clan’s Underworld, surrounded by subsidiary worlds that collectively form an immense space-time domain 417.
| Subsidiary World Category | Recorded Scale |
|---|---|
| Great Thousand Worlds | Three thousand 417 |
| Middle Thousand Worlds | One hundred thousand 417 |
| Lesser Thousand Worlds | As numerous as the sands of the Ganges 417 |
Nine Heavens Realm
The Nine Heavens rise from the First Heaven at the bottom to the Ninth Heaven at the top. Floating immortal islands serve as the foundations of powerful lineages, while most of those lineages maintain their actual sect headquarters on the continent below 417 489.
| Heaven | Occupants / Characteristics |
|---|---|
| First Heaven | Sanctuary for rogue cultivators 417 |
| Second–Fourth Heavens | Floating islands belonging to major immortal sects 417 |
| Fifth Heaven | Major sect lineages, including Luofu Immortal Mountain 417 494 |
| Sixth Heaven | Lineage of the Dao Ancestor’s third disciple, Venerable Light; remains beneath a starry night sky throughout the year 417 489 521 |
| Seventh Heaven | Lineage of the Dao Ancestor’s second disciple, Primordial Sage 417 521 |
| Eighth Heaven | Lineage of the Dao Ancestor’s eldest disciple, the Immortal Lord 417 513 521 |
| Ninth Heaven | The Dao Ancestor’s residence 417 464 |
- Celestial cycle: The Sun and Taiyin Star Realms originate in the Sixth Heaven and alternate to produce day and night. Its stars are projected onto the skies of the Immortal Continent 489.
- Cultivation environment: The Dao Ancestor’s palace contains five perpetually burning sticks of Dao incense whose resonance can grant insights to cultivators 464.
- Island access: Sect disciples ordinarily need to reach Mahāyāna, the Fifth Step, before ascending to their lineage’s floating island. These islands house the sects’ core disciples 417.
Primordial Chaos Immortal Continent
The Primordial Chaos Immortal Continent forms the realm’s boundless land beneath the Nine Heavens. It contains three thousand immortal domains, innumerable mortal kingdoms, and the headquarters from which sects recruit and train disciples 417 488.
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Buddha Immortal Domain | One of the continent’s three thousand domains. Azure Cloud Realm is one of its affiliated lower worlds 488. |
| Nanli Immortal Reception Platform | Southern reception point for ascenders from Azure Cloud Realm, guarded by Futu Immortal Sect disciples. Its surroundings are rich in immortal qi and fire elements 488. |
| Buddha Immortal Harbor | The Buddha Immortal Domain’s largest gateway to the sea, with white buildings, long seawalls, and an enormous floating dock 520. |
| Yun Continent | Destination reached by Qiushuang and her companions after a three-month Immortal Ship journey 521. |
| Central Continent City | A prosperous mortal city in the Nine Provinces, with ancient walls and four armored giant statues guarding its entrance 500. |
| Heavenly Terrace Mountain of Prayer to the Sage | Venue of the Nine Provinces Ascension to Immortality Assembly 518. |
| Sangyun Continent | Governed jointly by the Fire Mulberry Sect and Cloud Thunder Gate 541. |
| Caisang Ascension Platform | White-jade platform on Sangyun Continent, surrounded by fire mulberry trees; Jiang Shennong and Yuhuazi arrive here 540 541. |
| Spirit Mountain | Joined to Tathagata’s golden Elysium, becoming a world unto itself after his establishment of Buddhism 518. |
Landscape and World Boundary
- Floating mountains: Immortal mountains rise above qi-filled clouds, with immortal birds overhead and spirit creatures below. Luofu Immortal Mountain has a waterfall that emerges from the void and flows back into it 310 359.
- Immortal treasures: Jiang Shennong recalls Luofu Heaven and Earth as a place of concentrated spiritual essence and abundant naturally growing immortal treasures 369.
- Southern boundary: A vast screen separates the realm from Deep Space. Chaotic storms and immense thunder rage around this boundary 575.
Heavenly Dao
The Heavenly Dao is an artificial super formation governing much of the Immortal Realm’s order. The Immortal Clan built it with immense resources, incorporating Ghost Clan technologies, countless immortal formations, and authorization to use the Great Daos of its Seventh Step and higher experts, including the Dao Ancestor 494.
Functions and Restrictions
- Civilizational regulation: Operates the Immortal Clan’s Great Dao laws and regulates the direction of its civilization 494.
- Continued evolution: Can develop stronger functions and eventually acquires a rudimentary will, becoming increasingly rational and renowned for impartiality 494.
- Outsider detection: Strips away Jiang Yang’s disguise immediately upon his arrival, revealing that his power does not belong to the Immortal Clan 489.
- Environmental protection: Punishes damage to the realm’s heaven and earth. Powerful combatants must contain their attacks and aftershocks accordingly 496.
Immortal Emperor Authorization
The Immortal Emperor title serves as an access pass for powerful beings from other civilizations, preventing rejection by the Heavenly Dao. It does not make its recipient the administrative ruler of the Immortal Clan 494.
- Jiang Yang accepts the title after its purpose is explained 494.
- The Dao Ancestor declares Jiang Yang equal to himself in rank and orders others to extend the same courtesies to him 494.
- A female Supreme had previously entered the realm under the same title 494.
Ascension and Travel
Lower-Realm Ascension
The strongest practitioners of the Immortal Arts can transcend their native worlds and enter the Immortal Realm through ascension. Grand Ascension Formations connect subsidiary worlds to reception platforms and provide a continuing source of new immortals 258 487 488.
- Aura-guided travel: Gou Daoren instructs Xuanming to follow a wisp of the realm’s aura once she reaches Mahāyāna 252.
- Law Sea passage: Xuanming opens a doorway through the Ice Law Sea, although she warns that the connection has a small chance of failure 260.
- Reception and recruitment: Sects guard reception platforms and compete to recruit ascenders, valuing them as exceptional talents from their original worlds 488 541.
- Formation failure: Azure Cloud Realm goes eight thousand years without a successful ascension before Jiang Yang restores its connection and brings seven cultivators through 488.
Access from Other Civilizations
Direct Law Sea teleportation is restricted to members of the Immortal Clan. Cui Yu’s earlier journey with a Taisu Sect disciple takes several thousand years through worlds, Deep Space, and portals 418.
Jiang Yang initially fails to enter through the Law Sea. Even after reaching the Seventh Step, he must find a nearby world, travel onward through Deep Space, and use Azure Cloud Realm’s ascension formation as a shortcut into the realm 419 467 482 483.
Internal Transport
- Immortal Ships: Carry cultivators between immortal domains, moving through both sky and sea 521.
- Space-time gates: Support diplomatic journeys between the Immortal and Divine Realms 611.
Society and Cultivation
Mortal Life
Ordinary mortals constitute most of the Immortal Realm’s population. They inhabit kingdoms, cities, and villages, while immortals generally prefer secluded cultivation on spirit mountains and beautiful peaks. Even descendants of immortals are not guaranteed the ability to cultivate 500 520.
Every mortal must receive an opportunity to pursue immortality. Children are taught literacy and permitted to study Dao Scriptures, providing both general education and a means of discovering promising cultivators 520.
Cultivation Ranks and Titles
| Realm / Title | Meaning in the Immortal Realm |
|---|---|
| Mahāyāna / True Immortal | Fifth Step; customary threshold for entering a sect’s floating immortal island 417 541. |
| Myriad Phenomena Saint / Immortal King | Seventh Step; such experts rule portions of the realm. Three thousand Immortal Kings are recorded during Jiang Yang’s arrival arc 491. |
| Dao Lord | Title used for experts above the saint realm; the Eighth Step belongs to this category. Only a few dozen are recorded at that time 491 513. |
| Immortal Venerable | An honorific for an immortal possessing a floating immortal island, rather than a separately defined cultivation stage 417. |
| Quasi-Supreme | Tathagata becomes the Immortal Clan’s fifth Quasi-Supreme when he establishes Buddhism 518. |
Cultivation Traditions
- Civilization trait — “wisdom nearing the Dao”: An ultimate support trait that brings Immortal Clan members incomparably close to the Dao and arts they cultivate 493.
- Traditional priorities: The clan prizes quiet cultivation, typically overcoming opponents through superior realms, formations, and wisdom rather than emphasizing combat alone 523.
- War Immortals: The Golden Age shifts training toward rapid advancement and combat, preparing future immortal soldiers for the immeasurable tribulation 523 540.

Major Events
Xuanming’s Return and Jiang Yang’s Arrival
Xuanming locates the realm’s coordinates through a subsidiary world and leaves Earth to continue cultivating beyond its limitations. She resumes life on Luofu Immortal Mountain, where her son Jiang Shennong spends his earliest years before being sent to Earth to complete his foundations 258 260 359 369.
Jiang Yang eventually enters through the restored Azure Cloud Realm passage. His arrival produces an immense golden pillar and a great sun visible throughout the realm. The exposure of his outsider identity provokes hostility and battles, but the Dao Ancestor resolves his authorization to remain by granting him the Immortal Emperor title. Jiang Yang subsequently settles at Luofu with Xuanming 488 489 494 499.
Golden Age and War Immortal Plan
The Dao Ancestor concentrates fortune accumulated over countless years into a Golden Age intended to produce powerful combatants for the approaching immeasurable tribulation. The Nine Provinces Ascension to Immortality Assembly becomes a major recruitment event for this generation, after which the great sects return home with their selected disciples 523 537.
Preparations for the New Epoch
The Dao Ancestor sends more than a dozen immortal lights to abodes across the realm, initiating plans to leave the Immortal Clan’s legacy in the Mortal Realm of the new epoch. Recipients are stationed as far apart as the northern sea, the Fifth Heaven, an underground palace in the Central Province, and the southern world boundary 575.
Relations with the Divine Realm
- Friendly alignment: Jiang Yang bridges the two civilizations, leading their members to naturally support one another when meeting elsewhere in All Heavens 611.
- Technological exchange: Materials with unusual properties from the Immortal Realm accelerate Divine Clan research, improving combat and defensive technologies and contributing to the development of the Will of the Gods superweapon 538.
- Formal delegation: Immortal King Cang Yangshan leads hundreds of immortals to the Divine Realm, accompanied by Xuanming as deputy and Jiang Shennong. His Seventh Step cultivation is deliberately chosen to match the strongest Divine Clan members other than Jiang Yang 611.
