Background
Tang Xiaotang was discovered and brought to Dragon Tiger Mountain by Xu Yuanzhen when she was just over seven years old. Her extraordinary talent rapidly became known throughout the Celestial Master Mansion: she established her foundation at eight and reached the Seventh Heaven by eighteen. 235
As a Dao Child, she remained in the Dao Child Courtyard for nearly ten years because she refused ordinary ordination and insisted on becoming a personal disciple of the Contemporary Celestial Master. The Celestial Master’s prolonged seclusion prevented this, while the mansion repeatedly made exceptions to provide Tang Xiaotang with secret techniques and additional instruction. 13
She eventually recovered the lost Celestial Master Sword, defeated Li Hongyu despite the latter wielding the Celestial Master Robe, overcame Li Zhengxuan and other opponents, and personally killed Supreme Elder Li Song. These achievements helped end the Li Clan’s dominance within the mansion and made her the leading candidate for Celestial Master. 183
Tang Xiaotang formally assumed control of Dragon Tiger Mountain after paying homage in the Ancestral Tomb Forbidden Area. She became the first Talisman School cultivator to rise directly from Dao Child to Celestial Master. 187
After turning the tide during the Ba Shu campaign, she chose to step down as sect leader and transfer the position to Lei Jun. 351 She was subsequently appointed Great Tang State Preceptor and Protector of the Nation at an enfeoffment ceremony in Luoyang. 366
Appearance
Tang Xiaotang is a tall, radiant woman renowned as Dragon Tiger Mountain’s foremost beauty. Her presence is vivid and forceful rather than reserved. 30
- Tall stature, with a clear height advantage over most women. 30
- Breathtakingly beautiful and described as “radiant and World-Startling.” 30
- Hair and brows turn pale gold when she is angered or exerts her power. 15
- Her pupils can dilate and appear to hold leaping golden flames. 15 254
- Often appears in purple or purple-gold Taoist robes in later battles. 401 483
Personality
Tang Xiaotang is confident, ambitious, competitive, and openly proud of her talent. As a Dao Child, she aimed not merely to become a true disciple, but to surpass her seniors and become the next Celestial Master. 13 She is especially sensitive to comparisons with other exceptional natural talents and dislikes being overtaken. 379 403
Her temper flares quickly but also passes quickly. The unresolved frustration that most deeply affected her was being forced to remain a Dao Child for years while waiting for the secluded Contemporary Celestial Master. 21 434 She is impulsive in battle, enjoys dramatic victories, and is readily drawn toward powerful opponents or dangerous opportunities. 302 351
Despite her brash manner, Tang Xiaotang is serious about cultivation. She continuously develops her own techniques, wants her creations to eventually benefit the Celestial Master Mansion, and can apply exceptional focus and restraint when she chooses. 240 546
