Background / History

Previous Life and Divine Intervention

Tang San was an orphan raised by the Tang Sect as an outer disciple. His later nightmare revisits accusations that he secretly learned the inner sect’s Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. Within that dream, he recalls making the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus and jumping from a cliff, arguing that these acts repaid the sect for raising him 9.

His reincarnation was arranged by the Asura God, who transported his soul from another world as a potential successor. The god altered his memories, inserted knowledge of Douluo-specific treasures into the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, disguised Soul Tool technology as Tang Sect hidden weapons, and replaced his Mysterious Heaven Skill with a God King-level cultivation method 4.

Ye Guixu later describes this intervention as the preparation of a vessel rather than an ordinary inheritance. He claims that Tang San’s soul and cultivation path were deliberately reshaped to compensate for poor compatibility with the Asura Godhood 49.

Awakening in Holy Soul Village

At his awakening, Tang San refuses to accept Su Yuntao’s assumption that Blue Silver Grass cannot possess soul power. The test reveals innate full soul power, and he accepts a recommendation to Nuoding Academy 1.

Tang Hao initially dismisses his Blue Silver Grass and opposes his schooling. His attitude changes dramatically when Tang San reveals the Clear Sky Hammer. He embraces his son, tells him to use the hammer to protect the grass, and forbids him from revealing the second martial soul 2.

Tang San also tells Tang Hao about Ye Guixu’s unusual awakening. Tang Hao subsequently pursues Ye Guixu, intending to subordinate him as a future asset for Tang San against Spirit Hall, but fails to capture him 2 3.

Abuse and Departure

After discovering that Ah Yin and her soul bone have been taken, Tang Hao suffers a breakdown and mistakes Tang San for his wife. Tang San initially tries to comfort him without understanding the situation, but Tang Hao sexually assaults him. Villagers intervene unsuccessfully, and Tang San eventually leaves Holy Soul Village in a severely traumatized state 5 6 50.

Tang Hao then murders the witnesses and stages the destruction as a Fallen Soul Master’s massacre before following his son. Tang San wanders until hunger, thirst, and mental exhaustion cause him to collapse 6 9.

During unconsciousness, he dreams of killing the Tang Sect elders with Storm Pear Blossom Needles, discovering the sect littered with corpses, and declaring himself its new master. These events occur within the nightmare, not in the waking world 9.

After awakening, he realizes Tang Hao has secretly supplied food and water. Rather than feeling reassured, he recoils in fear. He resolves to reject Tang Hao as his father, rebuild a Tang Sect of his own, and seek strength through enrollment at Nuoding Academy 9 10.

Yu Xiaogang and the First Soul Ring

Tang San reaches Nuoding City by surviving on hunted animals and stream water. At the academy, Yu Xiaogang examines his recommendation and deduces that he has twin martial souls. Tang San accepts his offer of instruction and formally becomes his disciple 12.

Yu Xiaogang recommends a Mandala Snake for toughness, entanglement, and poison. Secretly following them, Tang Hao wounds a suitable snake and throws it into their path, allowing Tang San to obtain his first ring 12 13.

While Tang San absorbs the ring, the snake bites Yu Xiaogang. Tang San later expels some of the venom, then amputates the poisoned genital tissue despite his teacher’s objections. He removes the remaining poison and stops the bleeding with acupuncture-point pressure 14.

Agreement with Tang God King

During the first ring’s absorption, another soul enters Tang San’s body. Calling himself Tang God King, this parallel-world version of Tang San has already attained dual godhood and survived the destruction of his Divine Realm through rebirth 13.

Tang God King initially demands control of the body. Tang San refuses, insisting that his body and path belong to him. They instead agree to cooperate, with Tang God King supplying cultivation knowledge and information about future opportunities 13.

Their proposed route centers on life-oriented Blue Silver Grass cultivation and eventual inheritance of the Life and Destruction godhoods. The existing poisonous ring is an obstacle, prompting plans to purify the martial soul and favor plant- and life-type rings 13 14.

Accelerated Cultivation and Capture

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San follows Tang God King’s methods and prepares Blue Silver Grass Life Potion, reaching rank 16. He becomes increasingly uncomfortable with Yu Xiaogang’s controlling behavior and hopes that obtaining the treasures of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well will let him dispense with his teacher’s guidance 23 45.

These unfamiliar methods draw Ye Guixu’s attention. After examining Tang Hao’s memories, Ye Guixu visits the academy and identifies the presence of a reborn God King 52.

Tang San is subsequently imprisoned in the Mystic Ice Illusion Realm alongside Tang Hao. A puppet duplicate of Tang San attacks him with sleeve arrows and overwhelming physical force. Void Profound Ice repeatedly heals his injuries, enabling the punishment to continue. His attempt to restrain the puppet with Blue Silver Grass fails, and Tang God King’s spiritual form also appears within the realm 53 54.

Personality

Tang San initially longs for familial affection after growing up as an orphan. He seeks Tang Hao’s approval and is deeply moved by his brief display of paternal affection after the Clear Sky Hammer’s revelation. The later abuse destroys that attachment, leaving Tang San fearful of his father and determined to sever their relationship 2 9 10.

His response to suffering combines self-reliance, ambition, and resentment. He decides that strength is more dependable than family and rejects Tang God King’s demand to surrender control of his body. Although he accepts the older soul’s expertise, he remains cautious about the scheming beneath its confidence 10 13 23.

Under captivity, humiliation and pain repeatedly overwhelm his restraint. He lashes out at his captors, vows revenge, and continues resisting despite the puppet’s decisive superiority 53 54.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

His first martial soul inherits Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, giving it the potential for a second awakening 13.

  • Produces controllable strands that can coil around targets 14 54.
  • Its first Mandala Snake ring adds poison and makes it tougher than ordinary Blue Silver Grass 12 54.
  • Cannot restrain Puppet Tang San, who breaks its bindings with a slight movement 54.
  • Has not undergone a documented Blue Silver Emperor awakening in the supplied events; that remains part of Tang God King’s plan 13 45.

Clear Sky Hammer

His second martial soul is inherited from Tang Hao and kept secret on his father’s instructions 2 12.

  • Confirms his possession of twin martial souls 2.
  • Tang God King advises leaving it without rings until Blue Silver Emperor cultivation reaches Titled Douluo, then adding rings at least ten thousand years old. This is a proposed strategy, not an achieved configuration 13.

Mysterious Heaven Skill

Tang San uses this cultivation method to regulate soul power and treat his injuries. Its present form was secretly substituted by the Asura God with a God King-level method 4 10.

  • Settles chaotic soul power and supports recovery 10.
  • According to Tang God King, its internal energy produced Tang San’s apparent innate full soul power; his conflicting martial souls would otherwise have prevented innate soul power 23.
  • Serves as the baseline improved upon by earth- and plant-assisted cultivation 23.

Martial Soul Avatar Armor

After his first ring, Tang San manifests translucent ice-blue armor over his forearm, decorated with vines, flowers, and leaves 14.

  • Provides additional localized defense 14.
  • According to Yu Xiaogang, coverage expands with soul rings and becomes full-body armor after the seventh ring. Tang San has only demonstrated the forearm form 14.
  • Has no equivalent in Tang God King’s original world, confirming a difference between their timelines 14.

Plant-Assisted Cultivation and Potion Making

Tang God King teaches him to root Blue Silver Grass into the earth and absorb energy from the ground and nearby vegetation 23.

  • Uses dense patches of Blue Silver Grass as a cultivation environment 23 45.
  • Processes Blue Silver Grass into Life Potion to accelerate cultivation and nourish his physique 45 52.
  • The potion prepares his body for a future attempt to purge the poison associated with his first ring; that purification is not yet completed 45.

Poison Treatment and Survival

  • Expels venom through power circulation and uses acupuncture-point pressure to stop bleeding 14.
  • Performs emergency amputation when he judges Yu Xiaogang’s poisoned wound otherwise untreatable 14.
  • Hunts rabbits and birds with stones, roasts game, and relies on streams while traveling alone 12.

Equipment / Items

  • Academy recommendation letter — Issued by Su Yuntao after the awakening test; retained through his flight from Holy Soul Village and used to seek enrollment 1 10 12.
  • Dagger — Used to remove Yu Xiaogang’s poisoned tissue 14.
  • Blue Silver Grass Life Potion — A cultivation aid he prepares under Tang God King’s guidance 45 52.

  • Tang Hao — Father and abuser. Tang San rejects him after the assault, while Tang Hao secretly follows and assists him. Both are later imprisoned in the Mystic Ice Illusion Realm 6 9 10 53.
  • Ah Yin — Mother, whom he has never met. Tang God King reveals that she was the Blue Silver Emperor and the source of his inherited bloodline 12 13.
  • Tang God King — Parallel-world counterpart sharing his body. Becomes his principal cultivation adviser after failing to persuade him to surrender control 13 23.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Formal teacher. Tang San saves his life through poison treatment and amputation, but later grows distrustful and seeks independence from him 12 14 45.
  • Old Jack — Village chief who advocates for his education and offers him the academy’s work-study quota despite Tang Hao’s opposition 2.
  • Su Yuntao — Awakens and tests his martial soul, then supplies his academy recommendation 1.
  • Asura God — Arranges his reincarnation and secretly modifies his memories and cultivation resources. Ye Guixu identifies him as the architect of Tang San’s intended role as a vessel 4 49.
  • Ye Guixu — Enemy and captor. Targets him after discovering evidence of Tang God King’s intervention and orders his imprisonment and torture 52 53 54.
