Background / History

Ah Yin’s Sacrifice

Six years before the opening conflict, Tang Hao deliberately exposed Ah Yin to Spirit Hall’s attention because he wanted her hundred-thousand-year soul ring. His own recollection confirms that he drew pursuit by parading her through the streets. Qian Xunji subsequently pursued them with other Titled Douluos, and Ah Yin sacrificed herself to protect Tang Hao and their child 8.

Tang Hao obtained the soul ring he had sought, but realized the depth of his feelings for Ah Yin as she sacrificed herself. He later defeated the pursuing force using Ring Detonation. Bibi Dong recalls that Qian Xunji returned gravely injured, allowing her to devour him and begin the Rakshasa Nine Trials 8 48 66.

Tang Hao concealed Ah Yin’s remaining Blue Silver Emperor body in a cave behind a waterfall near Holy Soul Village. He also hid her hundred-thousand-year Soul Bone there in a black lead box. While hiding from Spirit Hall for six years, he neglected the cave and drowned his guilt in alcohol 2 3 5 50.

Conflict with Ye Guixu

Tang Hao initially dismissed Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass and refused Old Jack’s proposal to send him to Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy. His attitude changed immediately when Tang San revealed a second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. He embraced his son and ordered him to keep the hammer secret 2.

After learning that Ye Guixu’s awakened martial soul had shattered a testing crystal, Tang Hao sought to force the orphan into Tang San’s service. He also considered killing Ye Guixu if the boy joined Spirit Hall. Ye Guixu refused his demand and mocked his failure to protect Ah Yin, prompting Tang Hao to attack 2.

Ye Guixu repeatedly immobilized Tang Hao with space-time abilities and escaped into the upper atmosphere. Tang Hao pursued him to roughly four thousand meters, but was frozen again and kicked downward. Unable to locate his target and concerned that his exposed aura would attract attention, he abandoned the pursuit 3.

Breakdown and Holy Soul Village Massacre

Ye Guixu’s attack aggravated Tang Hao’s old injuries. Its lingering Ultimate Evil aura also entered the vulnerabilities created by his longstanding guilt, amplifying his agitation and negative emotions. This was a passive effect, not a deliberately activated use of Brainwave Connection 4.

Meanwhile, Ye Guixu stole Ah Yin’s remaining body and Soul Bone. Discovering the empty cave, Tang Hao destroyed it in rage, collapsed from grief, and returned home to drink heavily. In his intoxicated, delusional state, he mistook Tang San for Ah Yin and sexually assaulted him 4 5 6.

When villagers confronted him and threatened to expose the assault, Tang Hao killed the witnesses and devastated Holy Soul Village. He staged the scene as a Fallen Soul Master’s massacre before following Tang San. Old Jack survived because he had been away visiting another village 6.

Following Tang San

Tang Hao secretly tended Tang San after the boy collapsed in the forest, supplying food, water, and soul power. He withdrew before Tang San fully awakened, fearing that his presence would worsen his son’s trauma. Tang San nevertheless recognized his footprints and recoiled in fear 8 9.

He continued following Tang San to Nuoding City and covertly assisted his first soul-ring hunt. Although he distrusted Yu Xiaogang, he tolerated the apprenticeship to obtain Bibi Dong’s method for safely cultivating twin martial souls through Yu Xiaogang’s connections 10 12 13.

Ye Guixu later spread reports of Tang Hao’s presence near Nuoding City. Increased Spirit Hall patrols forced Tang Hao to move repeatedly while concealing Tang San’s identity. Ye Guixu also left a false claim in Tang Hao’s name at the plundered Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, causing Dugu Bo to avoid confronting its supposed new owner 15 16.

Capture and Imprisonment

Tang Hao considered beating Yu Xiaogang for hindering Tang San’s progress, but hesitated to attract Spirit Hall’s attention. He subsequently witnessed the Rose Boy Band abduct Yu Xiaogang and chose not to intervene 45 46.

On his way back toward the academy, Ye Guixu abducted him through spatial rifts. In the ensuing confrontation, Ye Guixu removed all four limbs and their Soul Bones, reducing Tang Hao from rank 95 to rank 55 46 47.

Inside the Mystic Ice Illusion Realm, Tang Hao faced Dark Ah Yin and a separate puppet duplicate of himself. Their accusations and physical attacks drove him into a breakdown. Ye Guixu ordered him kept alive, healed his wounds with Void Profound Ice, and forcibly maintained his awareness with Brainwave Connection 47 48 49.

When Tang San was brought into the realm, Tang Hao pleaded for his son’s release and offered to bear the punishment himself. His captors instead continued beating him while the ice repeatedly repaired his injuries. He was later sent into the Rose Boy Band’s transported courtyard alongside Tang San and Tang God King 53 55.

Spirit Hall remained unaware of his captivity: Bibi Dong subsequently ordered an investigation into Tang Hao and Tang San after discovering their connection through Yu Xiaogang’s records 64 66.

Appearance

  • Before capture: Disheveled hair, a haggard and weathered face, coarse hemp clothing, and powerful arms. His appearance had changed enough during seclusion that he doubted even former opponents would recognize him immediately 2 8 47.
  • During combat: Summons a heavy Clear Sky Hammer and manifests nine soul rings 2.
  • After capture: Missing all four limbs, with torn clothing and repeatedly inflicted wounds; he remains limbless when Tang San encounters him in the illusion realm 48 53.

Personality

Tang Hao combines pride in his strength with contempt for those he considers beneath him. He dismisses Old Jack’s criticism, initially treats Blue Silver Grass as worthless, and assumes an orphaned genius can be turned into a loyal subordinate through small favors or coercion. His affection toward Tang San becomes overt only after discovering the Clear Sky Hammer 2.

His attachment to Ah Yin is inseparable from exploitation and remorse. He admits wanting to use her for a soul ring, then suffers years of guilt after achieving that goal. His grief does not prevent neglect: he leaves her remaining body in the hidden cave without visiting it for years 8 50.

Tang Hao expresses concern for Tang San through secret protection and later pleads to take his punishment. Yet he also commits the acts that traumatize his son, then murders the witnesses while claiming to protect Tang San from public shame 6 8 13 53.
