Background / History

Yae Sakura enters the setting through her in-game identity, the Witch of the Fallen. She discovers that her new body has both human ears and long fox ears, and must adapt to a revealing miko outfit, heightened hearing, and sensitivity to noise. 4

Although she had been an ordinary person only days earlier, Sakura quickly proves capable of slaughtering yokai with inherited swordsmanship. Her first killings leave her exhilarated rather than sickened, alarming her; she later recognizes that the body and identity of Yae Sakura may be influencing her mind. 6 95

After rescuing Princess Xia Ji from a demon, Sakura identifies herself as the “Witch of the Fallen Yae Sakura,” then agrees to escort Xia Ji home. She initially accepts the task partly as a way to farm Crystals, but becomes increasingly protective of Xia Ji during their journey. 9 10 12

Sakura meets the miko Kikyo after a brief confrontation. She uses Sword Intent: Zanshin and superior close-quarters ability to disarm and subdue Kikyo without harming her, then later settles in Kaede Village and joins Kikyo on commissions. Seeking to test herself, Sakura confronts Great Yokai Tsuchigumo. She kills it with Crimson Flame Hell and repeated Blade Reversals, earning the Resurrection talent. She subsequently spends three years challenging Great Yokai across the land, killing hostile targets while sparing opponents who are not evil or who surrender; this completes her mission to defeat fifteen Great Yokai. 33 37 137
