Background / History

Shrek’s foremost defender

Yun Ming served as both Shrek Academy’s headmaster and the Sea God Pavilion Master, with a reputation as the strongest expert in the world. His wife, Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li, provided healing, empowerment, and damage sharing through their contract. Her ability to reserve a resurrection for him was an important foundation of his confidence in battle 11 14 18 20.

His authority within Shrek did not free him from its seniority rules. Long Yeyue was his teacher’s wife, and his teacher had instructed him to obey and care for her. He initially refrained from interfering in her fight with Di Tian because Shrek’s unwritten rule forbade others from joining her battles without permission 15 18 21.

Di Tian’s attack

Yun Ming arrived with Ya Li, Long Yeyue, and the Sea God Pavilion experts, only to witness Di Tian slaughter Cai Yue’er and hundreds of Shrek teachers and students. Enraged, he confronted Di Tian with the Sky-Piercing Long Spear 14.

His strongest ordinary spear attack could only match Di Tian’s Black Dragon Sword. Even with Ya Li’s support and Long Yeyue fighting alongside him, he failed to control the battle. Di Tian broke his spatial domain and repeatedly redirected his attacks into Long Yeyue, forcing him to restrain his strongest technique to avoid killing her himself 18.

Two Dragon God Claws shattered his defenses and battle armor, while the damage shared through their contract left Ya Li unconscious. Yun Ming then burned his Power of Faith to activate his demigod position. Di Tian avoided a direct clash, sacrificed a reverse scale to block the spear, and redirected his third claw toward Long Yeyue, killing her before Yun Ming could intervene 19 20 21.

Heavenly tribulation and possession

When Di Tian triggered his 900,000-year heavenly tribulation over Shrek, Yun Ming ordered the city’s evacuation. He tried to preserve the Golden Ancient Tree and Sea God Pavilion and called Chen Xinjie for reinforcements, but the evacuation remained incomplete and the tree could not be awakened or moved 22 23 25.

The Blue Silver Emperor’s emergence briefly renewed his hope. He helped resist the lightning, receiving vitality and divine power from her, but the fourth strike shattered his demigod position. When he attempted to flee, Tang Hao dragged him back and threatened to kill him if he abandoned the tribulation zone 27 28.

Tang Hao later revealed his identity as the Plane Master and Tang San’s father. Yun Ming initially expected an ancestor of Shrek to rescue him. Instead, Tang Hao sealed his cultivation, tore out his soul, and took his body for himself. Yun Ming’s displaced soul began dissipating before being drawn into Lin Ming’s Reincarnation Tower 30 31.

Rebirth and forced fusion

Lin Ming decided that reviving Yun Ming would create an enemy for Tang Hao. He selected a Wind Baboon vessel because its hands could wield a spear, then arranged for Yun Ming to reach Leng Yulai within the Holy Spirit Cult 36 37 50 51.

Yun Ming awakened in Leng Yulai’s blood pool and summoned his spear to avoid being devoured. The weapon instead began absorbing the pool’s blood and fiendish energy. Recognizing its aura, Leng Yulai cleared the hall and supplied him with top-grade natural treasures 64.

Leng Yulai later brought him before the Demon Empress, Ghost Emperor, and Nether Emperor. The latter two examined his soul and confirmed that the Wind Baboon was the genuine Yun Ming. He admitted that someone had stolen his body but refused to identify Tang Hao 94.

Leng Yulai proposed merging their souls so he could use her body and cultivation to seek revenge. Yun Ming vehemently refused, but his soul was extracted despite his resistance. The resulting fusion corrupted his martial soul and made him an evil soul inseparable from Leng Yulai through ordinary means. He eventually accepted their shared existence and stopped regarding evil soul masters as his enemies 95 118.

Revenge against Tang Hao

At Shrek’s auction, Yun Ming asked Leng Yulai to acquire a Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower to strengthen his mutated spear. She purchased it for three billion. Yun Ming believed it could purify the spear’s faint phoenix bloodline and potentially help him reach Quasi-God strength within a few years 117 118.

He subsequently attacked Tang Hao while the latter escorted Lin Ming. With their strength now comparable, Yun Ming’s superior spear technique steadily overwhelmed Tang Hao. He used soul-burning Phoenix Flame to attack the possessor while avoiding serious damage to his own stolen body 122 123 126.

After Leng Yaozhu intervened, Yun Ming used Yin-Yang Separation so Leng Yulai could fight her sister while he continued pursuing Tang Hao. Guan Yue’s arrival complicated the battle. Yun Ming exploited a weakness in Ya Li’s defenses, seized Lin Ming as a hostage, and escaped to a Holy Spirit Cult branch. He and Leng Yulai later presented their captive to the cult’s leaders 124 125 126 127.

Appearance

• Original human body: Wears white clothing and is fully encased by his Four-Word Battle Armor, Heavenly Sky, in battle 18 20.
• Wind Baboon vessel: Scrawny, with a black-and-red body and crimson eyes 94 95.
• Fused form: His shared form with Leng Yulai has mixed masculine and feminine characteristics 124.
• Separated form: Entirely male, but closely resembles Leng Yulai rather than his original appearance 124.
• Demigod-position manifestation: Radiates golden divine light, gains half a golden Divine Ring, and develops fine golden cracks across his body under the strain 20.

Personality

Yun Ming is proud of his strength and deeply invested in Shrek’s survival and prestige. He initially dismisses Di Tian’s threats, struggles to accept being matched in battle, and insists that Shrek’s long legacy must not end under his leadership. His protective actions include ordering a citywide evacuation and taking an attack he cannot dodge without exposing the academy behind him 18 19 22 23.

His loyalty has limits when death becomes unavoidable. He repeatedly attempts to escape the heavenly tribulation, reasoning that his survival is necessary for Shrek’s reconstruction. Tang Hao’s betrayal transforms his priorities: after fusion with Leng Yulai, revenge against the impostor becomes his central goal 28 30 118.

He remains defiant even while helpless before the Holy Spirit Cult, refusing to identify his body’s possessor. His attachment to Ya Li also survives his corruption; during the hostage incident, he hesitates because he cannot bear to seize her 94 126.

Yun Ming is regarded as the continent’s foremost spear expert. His technique remains effective despite changes to both his body and martial soul 123.

• Ghost Emperor and Nether Emperor independently verify that the Wind Baboon contains the genuine Yun Ming’s soul, exposing the Shrek-based “Yun Ming” as an impostor to the cult’s leadership 94.
• Following Lin Ming’s publicized torture, outrage falls on Yun Ming’s name because Tang Hao had been escorting the child in his body. Ya Li publicly explains his absence as recovery from serious injuries 136.
• Ya Li later notices that her formerly wise husband appears to have become foolish, while Long Yeyue continues addressing Tang Hao as “Yun Ming” during a Sea God Pavilion meeting 149.
