Background / History
Divine Realm Conflict and Survival
The Golden Dragon King emerged as one half of the Dragon God and embodies his negative energy. He claims to possess seventy percent of the Dragon God’s power. Imprisoned in the Divine Realm after fighting its gods, he eventually blew himself up and dragged the Divine Realm into the Temporal Tide. Only a fragment of divine soul and a drop of origin blood survived 1 5 6.
After reaching Douluo Continent, he attached himself to Lin Ming’s Fire Lizard Martial Soul. His essence blood transformed the low-grade lizard into a golden dragon, while Lin Ming’s Reincarnation Tower preserved and suppressed his soul. He spent six years studying the Tower before Lin Ming gained full access to it 1.
He had originally sought his divine core and sealed bloodline in Tang Wulin. Although Tang Wulin lived only a few streets away, eighteen God King seals prevented him from reclaiming them 3.
Alliance with Lin Ming
Upon being summoned, the Golden Dragon King tried to make Lin Ming his servant. Lin Ming instead immobilized him through his authority as a Soul Master and threatened to imprison his soul in the Reincarnation Tower. The Golden Dragon King submitted on the condition that Lin Ming help restore his peak strength, make him the Dragon God, and revive the Soul Beast Clan 1.
His proposed revival method combined the Tower’s reincarnation abilities with his own origin bloodline. Preserved soul-beast souls would be placed in compatible animals, after which he would implant the bloodline foundations needed for them to become soul beasts again. The plan also served his appetite: he intended to consume some of the restored population once it matured 2 3 7.
Di Tian’s Sacrifice and Shrek’s Destruction
In the Star Dou Great Forest, the Golden Dragon King used his bloodline authority to establish his identity before Di Tian and the other ferocious beasts. He condemned the Silver Dragon King’s leadership and persuaded Di Tian that sacrificing his flesh and blood could make the clan’s restoration possible 5 6 7.
Before Di Tian died, the Golden Dragon King directed him against Shrek Academy, which he blamed for enabling the soul beasts’ decline. The attack also concealed a second purpose: testing how far the power behind Shrek would intervene. Lin Ming arranged support and safeguards for Di Tian’s soul 10 11 16.
After Di Tian’s death, Lin Ming obtained his agreement to divide the corpse. The Golden Dragon King consumed the flesh and blood, restoring his origin bloodline to 15%. He later blessed Di Tian’s reincarnated human body, fulfilling a Dragon Clan obligation while securing Di Tian’s loyalty 35 37 42 43.
Conflict with the Silver Dragon King
The Golden Dragon King intercepted Gu Yuena’s calls to Xiong Jun and the Scarlet King, insulted her, and blocked her before she could respond. The Reincarnation Tower concealed his aura, leading her to suspect an unidentified enemy rather than recognize his survival 49.
He later identified Gu Yue as carrying thirty percent of the Silver Dragon King’s bloodline. During her confrontation with Lin Ming, he revealed himself and encouraged her mistaken belief that Lin Ming was merely his vessel. After Lin Ming killed Gu Yue and trapped her soul, the Golden Dragon King devoured her remains, bringing his origin blood essence to 30% 92 99 100 102 106.
Dragon Valley and Opposition to the Dragon God
The Golden Dragon King detected the Water Dragon King’s remnant soul within Dragon Blood Jade Ganoderma and inferred that her remains, along with the Fire Dragon King’s, lay in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He urged Lin Ming to visit so he could consume their remains 119.
His restored bloodline later helped open Dragon Valley. Although the vast dragon graveyard stirred excitement, nostalgia, and sorrow, he soon discovered that its dried bones contained none of the blood essence he needed. He then spent a day unsuccessfully chasing the Dragon God’s Heart, which repeatedly moved beyond his reach 153 154.
Lin Ming told him that the Heart was reserved for the Silver Dragon King and that the Dragon God’s indestructible soul might still be watching. The Golden Dragon King turned openly against his original self, urging the seven Dragon Kings to reject a creator who had killed them and insisting that neither the Dragon God nor the gods should prevent the clan’s revival 154 156.
He subsequently interpreted the threat to the Myriad Demon King’s advancement as another attempt by the Dragon God to cripple their faction, pressing the Dragon Kings to recognize him as an enemy 172.
Appearance
- Baby-dragon body: Small enough to rest on Lin Ming’s shoulder, with golden scales, tiny wings, and horn buds initially no larger than beans 1 43.
- Childlike voice: Speaks in a babyish voice despite his vicious expressions and imposing bloodline pressure 1 5.
- Restored aura: Golden patterns and increasingly brilliant light accompany his bloodline recovery 37.
- Fusion manifestation: Produces an enormous golden dragon phantom behind his small body before merging with Lin Ming 167.
Personality
The Golden Dragon King is proud, foul-mouthed, and quick to anger, but practical enough to retreat when he lacks leverage. His declaration that a Dragon King would never become a slave collapses when Lin Ming threatens genuine imprisonment. He recognizes the Tower’s superiority and understands that his recovery depends on cooperating with its owner 1 2.
His cruelty is calculated rather than mindless. He regards soul beasts as potential nourishment and uses Di Tian’s sacrifice for several objectives at once: bloodline recovery, revenge against Shrek, and investigation of its hidden protector. He also exaggerates his weakness after blessing Di Tian to strengthen the subordinate’s emotional attachment 3 11 43.
Nevertheless, he distinguishes debts from grudges. His blessing of Di Tian is not wholly an act: he considers it an overdue obligation to a Dragon King’s descendant and accepts responsibility for the failures of the Dragon God’s other half. His affection for the Dragon Clan coexists with his willingness to consume its members 42 43 153 154.
He is observant and strategically inventive. Six years of studying the Reincarnation Tower allow him to propose uses Lin Ming has not yet considered, while his deductions about the Water Dragon King impress even Lin Ming. He also shares the draconic fondness for treasure, eagerly imagining sleeping on Di Tian’s accumulated gold and jewelry 1 10 119.
