Background / History

Service to the Dragon God

Di Tian descended from Douluo’s Nine Dragon Kings, became patriarch of the Black Dragon clan, and served as captain of the Dragon God’s personal guard. He later followed the Silver Dragon King, Gu Yuena, remaining hidden on Douluo Continent 37 49.

After learning that merit could lead to godhood in the Primordial World, he proposed earning it through good deeds. He and Gu Yuena could not resolve whether helping human Soul Masters or protecting Soul Beasts would qualify. Watching the Primordial World later gave him another hope: its cultivation did not require hunting Soul Beasts for Soul Rings, and demon beasts could hold official positions 9 29.

Ascension and Service to Qian Renxue

Di Tian joined Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Zhao Wuji in the second group of ascenders. Before leaving, he reassured Bi Ji and Zi Ji and entrusted Star Dou Great Forest’s safety to Xiong Jun. His first priority after arrival was registering with an Earth God so that, if killed, he could enter the Underworld rather than become a wandering ghost 31.

The local Earth God registered him but offered no further assistance. After learning that he was on the Eastern Continent of Superior Body, Di Tian sought directions to Flower-Fruit Mountain and set out to find Qian Renxue. He nearly died several times during the journey, but also discovered that he could practice the Qi Refining Method 32 37.

Qian Renxue used her Earth God authority to inspect his past. Di Tian offered to serve as her temple keeper and promised cooperation between Spirit Hall, Gu Yuena, and the Ferocious Beasts. She accepted conditionally, and Gu Yuena’s party departed for Spirit City to negotiate the alliance 37.

Di Tian performed odd jobs while Qian Renxue restored Flower-Fruit Mountain, then accompanied her when she became Mountain God of Five Finger Mountain. While patrolling, he discovered Sun Wukong imprisoned beneath it. During their subsequent visit, Qian Renxue defended him when Nezha threatened him over his dragon ancestry 39 40 41.

Adoption into the West Sea Dragon Clan

Ao Cunxin recognized Di Tian as a newly ascended dragon with an exceptionally diluted bloodline. Sensing that he could change the West Sea Dragon Clan’s fortune, she offered him an opportunity carrying an initially unspecified price. Di Tian sought Qian Renxue’s permission before accepting and promised to repay her kindness 44.

The arrangement required him to enter a Tribulation in place of Ao Cunxin’s younger brother, Ao Yu. The Dragon Clan would receive the resulting fortune and merit, while Di Tian could retain any spiritual rank or other benefits he earned. Ao Run adopted him, named him the Little Black Dragon of the West Sea, and summoned the Dragon Gate to help him become a True Dragon 45 47.

The Dragon Gate’s pressure tore Di Tian’s body apart. Inspired by the aquatic creatures attempting the same leap, he rejected his former submissiveness and developed the conviction needed to cross. He passed through reduced to bones, but the gate rebuilt him as a True Dragon. Two koi sustained by his fallen flesh and blood followed him through and became golden dragons 49.

Eagle Sorrow Ravine and the Tournament

After transforming, Di Tian tested his weather-commanding powers and publicly declared that he would lead the Soul Beasts and preserve their alliance with Spirit Hall. The Thunder Department immediately confronted him for bringing rain without Heavenly Court approval. Following Ao Run’s instructions, he accepted a decree banishing him to Eagle Sorrow Ravine until his merit was complete 49 50.

Gu Yuena acknowledged him as Soul Beast Co-Ruler. His new standing also strengthened the Soul Beasts’ protection: potential hunters now faced both Spirit Hall on Douluo Continent and the Dragon Clan in the Primordial World. During his stay at Eagle Sorrow Ravine, Di Tian studied non-core Dragon Clan texts supplied by the West Sea 50 89.

Di Tian later competed at Five Finger Mountain with a Black Dragon Martial Soul fashioned by Nezha. Against Bibi Dong, he overwhelmed her attacking Soul Skill with Overturn Rivers and Seas, but the Nine-Colored Gauze briefly controlled him. Bibi Dong exploited that opening to place a thorn at his throat and win. He apologized to Qian Renxue, who assured him that he had already done well 88 89 90.

Appearance

  • Original form: The Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King 31 49.
  • True Dragon form: A thousand-meter black dragon with golden eyes, antlers, three claws, and darkly gleaming scales. His former wings disappear after the transformation 49.
  • Human form: Develops two retractable dragon horns after becoming a True Dragon. He deliberately leaves them visible because he considers them handsome and a symbol of his new status 50.
  • Martial Soul Possession: Appears nearly two meters tall, with golden eyes, dragon horns, black armor bearing a dragon-head chest design, a silver spear, a black-glowing left claw, and a silver Dragon Tendon around his waist 89.

Personality

Di Tian’s loyalty is practical rather than unquestioning. Although devoted to Gu Yuena, he becomes privately frustrated by her inability to provide workable plans. He takes responsibility for finding a future for the Soul Beasts himself, accepting a humble position under Qian Renxue when it offers a viable path forward 30 31 37.

He values gratitude and keeps obligations in mind. He seeks Qian Renxue’s approval before leaving with Ao Cunxin, promises to repay her, and recognizes Ao Run’s generosity despite the self-interest behind his adoption. Ao Cunxin explicitly approves of his willingness to repay kindness 44 48 50.

His Dragon Gate ordeal changes his self-image. Reflecting on years spent obeying others and hiding, he decides that becoming a True Dragon requires conviction as well as a transformed body. His resulting pride also has a boastful side: immediately after transforming, he celebrates publicly and uses his inherited powers without considering heavenly regulations 49.
