After saying this, Little White Dragon raised the piece of bark in his claws and waved it.
Only then did the dragons notice that the bark was covered in Draconic writing.
Xiluo defeats Gordon within two minutes, odds 1:10
Xiluo defeats Gordon within three minutes, odds 1:8
Xiluo defeats Gordon within five minutes, odds 1:5
Xiluo defeats Gordon within seven minutes, odds 1:3
Xiluo defeats Gordon within ten minutes, odds 1:2
Xiluo defeats Gordon after ten minutes, odds 1:1.6
Gordon defeats Xiluo within two minutes, odds 1:15
Gordon defeats Xiluo after ten minutes, odds 1:3
"This... looks pretty interesting... lots of these odds are really high!"
"Whoa! The odds for Gordon winning within two minutes are so high! Fifteen to one? Doesn't that mean I can bet one gold coin and get fifteen gold coins? If I win, won't I get rich just like that?" a wyrmling said, drool streaming from his mouth.
"Sounds pretty good. Why don't we give it a try?"
"But... with odds this high, can you afford to lose, Allen?"
The wyrmlings chattered among themselves, but some dragons stared at Little White Dragon with doubt in their eyes.
Seeing this, Little White Dragon immediately spat out three Ice Element Magic Crystals, along with silver and copper coins worth nearly two gold coins in total.
"Is this enough?"
He asked calmly.
"Hmm... that adds up to about five gold coins, but it's still nowhere near enough." One wyrmling shook his head.
"If it isn't enough, I'll pay you the rest later. Those three human merchants will come again, and we're shedding our scales with the change of seasons. Gold coins aren't hard for us to get anymore.
"Even if it's a dozen or more gold coins, I can afford to pay," Little White Dragon replied confidently.
"Hmm... that's true, but what if you refuse to pay? I wouldn't trust someone who's spent so long hanging around Xiluo not to have learned his treachery and cunning!"
The Green Dragon Koraman voiced his doubts, full of contempt and resentment toward Xiluo.
Because of their previous wagers, every time Alicia lost, he had been the one giving up his food!
Thinking back to those days, he had nearly starved himself until he was as thin as a Black Dragon...
Just then, an enormous shadow blotted out the sky. The wyrmlings looked up and discovered that Barbara, the young adult female Green Dragon, had arrived overhead at some point. Beating her enormous wings, she slowly landed.
Her enormous draconic eyes fixed on the writing on the bark with interest.
After reading it, she couldn't help glancing toward Xiluo in the distance, the corners of her mouth lifting.
"Good morning, Lady Barbara."
The wyrmlings all greeted her.
"These wagers do look quite interesting. I'll serve as the witness."
Barbara spoke with interest.
She knew that Little White Dragon Allen must have set up these wagers at Xiluo's request.
As it happened, she was very fond of that little Blue Dragon. Doing him a small favor was well within her duties.
"Hmm! With Lady Barbara as witness, we naturally trust you."
Koraman nodded.
Then he pointed a claw at the line about Xiluo defeating Gordon after ten minutes. "I'll bet on this! The odds are relatively low, but it's also the most likely outcome."
"How much will you bet?" Little White Dragon looked expectant.
"Hmm... twenty... no, ten silver coins," Koraman said after some thought.
"Only ten silver coins?" Little White Dragon's face immediately fell.
His thoughts raced, and he seemed to return to yesterday, Xiluo's words faintly echoing in his ears.
"If any dragons won't cooperate, mock them mercilessly! Go straight for their sore spots..."
"Um... I don't really know much about sore spots," he had replied meekly.
"It doesn't matter if you don't know. I'll teach you!
"Listen! Black Dragons hate it most when other dragons say they're nothing but skin and bones.
"Abel hates it most when other dragons say he's inferior to Koraman, that Blue Dragons are inferior to Green Dragons...
"You White Dragons all hate being called the shame of the Chromatic Dragons, unworthy of standing alongside other dragons...
"Alicia hates it when other dragons say she'll never measure up to Gordon and me in her lifetime, that she only knows a few clever tricks...
"Koraman hates it most..."
"Koraman! Is that all the ambition you have? Aren't you ashamed to put down just ten silver coins in front of the beautiful Alicia?
"If I were you, I wouldn't bother betting at all. You'd only win six silver coins! What good would that do?
"You'd be better off eating plenty of grass and bark. When the human merchants come next time, couldn't you just crap out a little more to earn that much?
"If you don't dare bet, step aside! You cowardly, useless fool! You aren't worth a single toe on Xiluo's or Gordon's foot! With so little ambition, do you even deserve Alicia's love?"
Little White Dragon grinned and mocked him mercilessly.
"!!!!"
Koraman's green face gradually flushed red, and a cloud of poisonous gas burst from his nostrils.
"What did you say, you damned cripple?"
Koraman roared, completely losing his composure. Like a dragon gone mad, he lunged at Little White Dragon, wanting to pin the hateful Dragon Cubs beneath him and give him a vicious beating.
But just then, several vines sprang from the ground, shooting out like lightning and wrapping around Koraman's limbs.
An authoritative voice rang out.
"Koraman, do you intend to ignore my warning?"
Koraman shuddered at those words and looked toward Barbara behind Little White Dragon. The young adult Green Dragon's gaze was icy.
He hurriedly lowered his head.
"S-sorry, Lady Barbara. I lost my temper... please forgive me."
"If there's a next time, I'll hang you from a tree for ten days! Then I'll soak you in the Lizardfolk's cesspit!"
"Please forgive me... there definitely won't be a next time."
Only after Koraman spoke quietly again did the vines release him.
He stood on the ground once more.
Koraman glared furiously at Little White Dragon Allen. He truly wished he could break that crippled dragon's other leg too!
But he had to hold back his anger.
Glancing at Alicia out of the corner of his eye, Koraman made a heartbreaking discovery.
His beloved female dragon was actually looking at him with disappointment.
Damn it! Alicia really is disappointed in me! Just because I'm too cautious? I'm not as strong as Xiluo or Gordon, but am I really that far behind them in wealth too?
Those are the two most important things for a dragon!
If I can't match those two bastards in anything, how can I win Alicia's love?
Koraman gritted his teeth and spat all his wealth out of his mouth.
The gold coin he had won from Xiluo before, plus what he had earned from this trade, came to a full two gold coins, three silver coins, and twenty-nine copper coins!
He pushed all his money in front of Little White Dragon and growled.
"I bet all my money on Xiluo defeating Gordon after ten minutes!"
"Hmm... of course you can. But even if you win, you'll only earn one gold coin and twenty silver coins. Paying out that little means nothing to me."
Little White Dragon looked at the money, his face full of smiles.
