Background / History
Founding Konoha
Madara led the Uchiha Clan and joined Hashirama Senju in founding Konoha. Their cooperation helped move the Shinobi World from an era of competing clans to one dominated by shinobi villages. Madara was also responsible for the title “Hokage” 97 105 157.
His wish to give children a peaceful future was central to that undertaking. Decades later, O-Tama’s vulnerability reminds him of the reason he and Hashirama founded the village 186.
The Eye of the Moon Plan
Madara pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan as a means of achieving peace. His commitment drove him to fight his closest friend, fake his death, and spend decades barely surviving underground 151.
During the Third Shinobi World War, he rescued Obito Uchiha and manipulated him into embracing his cause. Shengyi’s historical notes connect this manipulation to later conflicts, including the Nine-Tails’ attack and the Fourth Shinobi World War 8.
Although Konoha believed Hashirama had killed him and Tobirama had buried his body, Madara survived that supposed death. By the time Shengyi interrogates the captured Obito, however, Madara has genuinely died 66.
Resurrection and Disillusionment
Madara returns to life with the Rinnegan and meets Shengyi, who offers him a place in the peace he claims to have established. Madara dismisses Obito as a failed pawn rather than showing concern for his captivity 150.
Shengyi then exposes Black Zetsu’s deception. Madara cannot recreate, control, or locate the being he believed was his manifested will. He learns that the Eye of the Moon Plan would drain the world’s chakra to release Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, rather than produce the peace he sought. Despite the collapse of his lifelong purpose, he remains composed enough to reconstruct Black Zetsu’s scheme 151.
Appearance
- Hair and bearing: Long-haired, cold, and proud; his appearance leaves a lasting impression on Konoha’s older leaders 38.
- Armor: Wears red armor from the Warring States era when he meets Shengyi after resurrection 150.
- Eyes: Displays scarlet Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and purple Rinnegan; his later Rinnegan possess three tomoe 150 300 302.
- Susanoo: Manifests as a blue armored giant, with wings in its Perfect form 190 302 303.
Personality
Madara is intensely proud and confident in his strength. He enters Shengyi’s conjured pavilion without hesitation, treats many opponents as beneath his personal attention, and openly challenges the Quincy to fight him together. Nevertheless, he recognizes opponents who exceed his expectations: Kaido earns his approval by damaging a small section of his Wood Clone’s Perfect Susanoo 150 197 299.
His pursuit of peace coexists with extreme brutality. He regards destruction as a means rather than an end, yet readily mutilates attackers, kills people he considers obstacles, and erases evidence afterward. His promise to spare Tenguyama Hitetsu initially prevents him from killing the man, but does not stop him from crushing both of his lower legs 186 187 189 192.
O-Tama brings out unusual patience and affection in him. Initially inexperienced at comforting or teaching young children, he compensates her for damaging her home, promises to keep her fed, and uses combat as an opportunity to explain his techniques. His protectiveness does not extend to Shō, whom he comes to despise for perceived selfishness and manipulation 186 190 192 196.
Madara also adapts to the Empire’s priorities. Contact with Orochimaru and its Research and Development Division teaches him the value of researchers, becoming a decisive reason for sparing Queen 198.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Rinnegan
Madara’s ocular powers provide exceptional perception and access to advanced techniques 150 189 196.
- Motion tracking: His Wood Clone follows and blocks Kaido’s rapid attacks with precision 196.
- Fine observation: Notices a momentary change in Shō’s expression and interprets it as evidence of ulterior motives 190.
- Shinra Tensei: Precisely controls the direction and range of repulsion; later pulverizes the manor and surrounding remains 152 192.
- Banshō Ten’in: Uses gravitational attraction to prevent fleeing Moon Ōtsutsuki from escaping 153.
- Tengai Shinsei: Calls down an enormous meteor during the extermination of the Moon Ōtsutsuki Clan 153.
Limbo: Border Jail
Limbo creates normally invisible shadows with nearly the same strength and abilities as Madara himself 189.
- Shadows can defend his body or attack without ordinary observers detecting them 189.
- Rinnegan possessors can see them; those with Six Paths Senjutsu or Six Paths-level power can sense them 189 302.
- Uses two shadows to kill Kozuki Sukiyaki 189.
- His Three-Tomoe Rinnegan support sixteen shadows, compared with the four recalled by his allies 302.
- Their evolved form appears to incorporate mental power and undying black-flame properties, according to Shengyi’s observations 302.
Susanoo
Madara possesses Perfect Susanoo, the fifth stage described in Tobirama’s historical records. Its complete humanoid form wears Tengu Armor and has wings 38.
- Adjustable size: Shrinks Susanoo for close combat or enlarges it to overwhelm opponents 193 303.
- Flight and transport: Travels with Susanoo and carries O-Tama inside its protective barrier 185 190.
- Defense: Blocks Kaido’s attacks and stops Meninas McAllon’s punch without Madara moving 196 302.
- Clone compatibility: His Wood Clones can independently manifest Susanoo 196.
- Repair: A clone restores the wrist armor after Kaido breaks a small section 197.
- Bloodline requirement: Explains that O-Tama cannot simply learn Susanoo without acquiring the necessary bloodline 192.
Wood Release and Wood Clones
Madara uses Wood Release for combat, environmental restoration, construction, and healing. Implanted Wood Release cells have also dramatically improved his regeneration 156 186 198.
- Environmental restoration: Grows forests that purify polluted land and improve air quality, while recognizing that this does not eliminate the source of contamination 186.
- Construction: Builds O-Tama a sprawling wooden manor with gardens and sculptures 186.
- Deep Forest Emergence: Creates a battlefield-wide forest capable of trapping and draining victims; its later application absorbs surrounding reishi and natural energy 191 194 303.
- Wood Clones: Produces combat-capable doubles and receives their memories after they disperse 192 196.
- Controlled output: Creates clones with energy fluctuations approximately matching Kaido and King to make their battles useful teaching demonstrations 196.
- Mystical Palm Technique: A Wood Clone heals Kaido while shrinking as it expends its remaining resources, then becomes a tree 198.
Sage Art: True Several Thousand Hands
Madara combines True Several Thousand Hands with Susanoo armor to produce a thousand-meter-tall Guanyin statue, its many fists encased in blue armor 197.
- His Wood Clone uses the combination against Kaido’s strongest attack 197.
- Kaido destroys two fists, but the remaining barrage overwhelms him 197.
- Madara deliberately preserves Kaido’s life because he considers him a suitable follower 197.
Fire Release and Amaterasu
Madara’s Fire Release overwhelms Bazz-B’s flames, despite Bazz-B claiming that his own fire had countered Ryūjin Jakka 299.
- Majestic Destroyer Flame: Incinerates weaker Moon Ōtsutsuki during his coordinated assault with Wood Clones 153.
- Great Fireball Technique: Produces immense blue flames whose heat distorts the surrounding space 299.
- Dragon Flame Release Song: Modified: Expands a small purple flame dragon into a winged dragon dozens of meters long 300.
- Amaterasu: Burns Nianzol Weizol and Pernida Parnkgjas to death 304.
- Learned mastery: Shisui explains that Madara’s strength and understanding allow him to use Amaterasu without it being his innate Mangekyō ability 304.
Swordsmanship and Defensive Techniques
- Uchiha Two-Sword Style: Cross Slash: Uses two enormous katana to send multiple close-combat Sternritter flying 302.
- Precision: Decapitates Meninas after Susanoo blocks her attack and grievously wounds Jugram Haschwalth in close combat 302 304.
- Ninefold Rashomon: An improved version of Rashomon that blocks nearly ninety percent of the Sternritter’s combined attacks; Susanoo withstands the remainder 302.
- Earth Release: Conceals bodies and debris deep underground and levels the surface afterward 189 192.
Resistance to Quincy Abilities
- The Balance: Jugram’s ability fails against Madara because of the disparity in their strength 301.
- The Underbelly: NaNaNa cannot analyze and paralyze him because Madara has no reishi 302.
Equipment / Items
- Red Warring States-era armor — Worn upon his post-resurrection meeting with Shengyi 150.

Relationships
- Hashirama Senju — Closest friend and Konoha co-founder, later an opponent. Madara’s manor sculpture unconsciously reproduces Hashirama’s True Several Thousand Hands 97 151 186.
- Izuna Uchiha — Younger brother. Tobirama recorded a change in Madara’s Mangekyō pattern after Izuna’s death 34.
- Obito Uchiha — Rescued and manipulated as a pawn for his plan. After resurrection, Madara dismisses Obito’s failures and captivity 8 150.

- Kaguya Ōtsutsuki — Treats Madara as her grandson because he is the reincarnation of Hagoromo’s son. She heals him completely after they fight alongside one another 156.
- O-Tama — Disciple and ward. Madara provides for her, teaches her, and arranges the bloodline transformation that enables her to awaken the Sharingan 189 196 218.
- Kaido — Earns Madara’s recognition in battle. Madara spares and heals him, intending to make him his mount 197 198.
- King and Queen — Prospective followers whom Madara assigns the intended roles of errand boy and researcher 198.
- Sasuke Uchiha — Competes with Madara over opponents. Sasuke wins their rock-paper-scissors contest for the right to fight Yhwach, then is astonished by Madara’s mastery of Amaterasu 299 304.
