Power Progression

Mang Dabiao’s documented progression concerns recovering sealed strength rather than advancing through named realms.

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Self-sealed cultivation 65 After absorbing Blood Moon Energy and nearly losing his reason, he used a secret art to seal his innate brutality and most of his abilities. He described himself as almost equivalent to a newly hatched snake.
Recovery begins through Yang Yong’s mark 66 The binding mark subdued and slowly absorbed his Blood Moon Energy, restoring access to immortal arts and giving him hope of recovering his former strength.
Banner-assisted purification 88 95 Used the Two-Yang God-Sealing Banner to absorb solidified Blood Moon Energy. With it as a medium, he could purify his immortal power and sustain Hu Xian’er’s rescue formation despite his sealed strength.
Physical growth and strengthening 119 Grew from slightly over one meter to more than two meters long. His scales hardened and his aura strengthened as his former power gradually returned.
Evil-Slaying Blade acquired 152 Blood-bound the newly forged blade, gaining a major offensive weapon that exchanged lifespan for attack power. This was an equipment gain, not a stated realm breakthrough.
Greater size and lifespan-powered combat 295 Exceeded five meters in length. Runes appeared across his scales as he burned lifespan through the Evil-Slaying Blade and bisected the Corpse Mass Monster.
Further unsealing 332 The Evil-Slaying Blade continued drawing Blood Moon Energy from his body, gradually awakening more of his strength. The extent of his remaining seal was not specified.

Background / History

Before joining Yang Yong, Mang Dabiao had a spirit-medium disciple and learned to drive while accompanying them. He cultivated the Golden Armor Divine General Method, a combat-oriented path followed by his clan 63 93.

When the Blood Moon erupted, he unknowingly absorbed large quantities of its energy while asleep. The resulting murderous impulses nearly overwhelmed his reason, prompting him to seal most of his abilities. He subsequently fled from the northeast with the Liu Family’s group, disguising himself as an animal immortal with little cultivation and enduring humiliating treatment. Despite this, he admitted becoming attached to his fellow fugitives 65 66.

Yang Yong accepted him as an underling only after imposing a cultivation mark. Although the mark restricted his freedom, Mang Dabiao regarded its purifying effect as an extraordinary opportunity. He hoped that following Yang Yong might eventually let him break through the world’s shackles and the barrier he associated with the Four Symbols Sealing Suppression 66.

Appearance

  • Body: A heavily scaled python whose body feels like a rope twisted from refined steel 69.
  • Growth: Increased from slightly over one meter long to more than two meters during his recovery, later exceeding five meters 119 295.
  • Eyes: Golden eyes with slit pupils 783.
  • Expression: Displays unusually human expressions, including grief, flattery, indignation, and intoxication 65 324 801.
  • Voice: Rough and hoarse, with a pronounced northeastern accent 63.
  • Contract mark: Located on his forehead; it can glow when he transmits formation knowledge to Yang Yong 152.

Personality

Mang Dabiao is slick, gluttonous, boastful, and eager to join any excitement. He enjoys alcohol, attractive women, arguments, and good food, sometimes allowing these interests to distract him from danger. His encounter with the Foreign Woman Ghost turned into a drinking session, while the prospect of cutting open enormous sweet potatoes left him visibly impatient during a meeting 71 82 300 301.

He is highly conscious of survival and the cost of fighting. He avoids spending lifespan unnecessarily, sometimes using the Evil-Slaying Blade as an ordinary striking weapon rather than activating its power. His apparent cowardice can also conceal tactical calculation: against the root puppets, he repeatedly bluffed and retreated to gather nearly a hundred enemies into one economical slash 273 434.

His attachment to Yang Yong combines gratitude, dependence, and possessiveness. He eagerly calls him his boss or big brother and introduces himself to Long Ya as Yang Yong’s most beloved pet. Nevertheless, he acts decisively when needed, protecting Yang Yong’s resurrection doll and offering to accompany him against a giant electric eel 66 210 224 783.

He also keeps important secrets. His reactions suggest knowledge of the old Taoist priest’s origins, and Cao Xianming abandoned an attempt to divine him after sensing an overwhelming terror 97 182.

Abilities & Skills

Golden Armor Divine General Method

A combat-focused cultivation method specializing in killing and destroying evil 93.

  • His clan follows the same martial path.
  • He identifies himself as a battle immortal rather than a healer or dream-breaking specialist.
  • His cultivation realm remained intact while much of his usable immortal power was sealed 93 95.

Physical Strength and Durability

His body remains exceptionally tough even when his immortal abilities are restricted.

  • Can anchor his tail to a wall and support Yang Yong’s weight as a climbing rope 69.
  • Withstood an Eerie’s scythe without receiving even a white mark 127.
  • Overpowered a mirror ghost’s pull and dragged part of her head out of a rearview mirror 329.
  • Can impale enemies with his tail and wield oversized weapons 433 646.
  • Ordinary physical attacks cannot necessarily harm spirit-form Eerie; his bite passed through one without effect 127.
  • His durability has limits: invisible attacks wounded him while scouting the yurt settlement 462.

Supernatural Perception

Mang Dabiao senses Eerie presences, supernatural energy, and traces left by others.

  • Scouts ahead so the convoy can avoid Eerie before being noticed 65.
  • Distinguished the old Taoist priest’s righteous Daoist energy from an Eerie aura 91 92.
  • Detected numerous Eerie near the cave containing the living corpse 267.
  • Recognized Yang Yong’s lingering Contract Mark scent on Long Ya 783.
  • His perception is not infallible: he detected no presence or energy within the mysterious temple and found no useful explanation for the Route 14 bus beyond a woman’s scent 91 324.

Formations and Artifact Knowledge

His knowledge repeatedly expands Yang Yong’s forging options.

  • Shrinking Magic Array: Allows supernatural power to shrink an artifact to toothpick size. Yang Yong incorporated it into the Ten-Thousand-Forging Primordial Furnace 152.
  • Freely Contracting Formation: Used in bone whips capable of extending over a thousand meters 153.
  • Protective formations: Copied a formation used to shield clothing against the extraction of the seven emotions’ power 164.
  • Material selection: Arranged eighteen kinds of sinister bones in precise proportions for the Evil-Slaying Blade and selected Eerie remains for a false sacred relic 152 264.
  • Blueprint revision: Simplified inefficient formation patterns, stating that his changes would at least double their power and accuracy 545.

Possession and Shamanic Assistance

Mang Dabiao offered to use Shamanism to force open Yang Yong’s apertures 119.

  • His first documented attempt was forcibly expelled by the Thousand-Hammer, Hundred-Refinement Furnace, causing him to cough blood.
  • On a second attempt, he possessed Yang Yong successfully, leaving Yang Yong conscious but unable to control his body.
  • The supplied account does not establish that this attempt successfully opened an aperture 134.

Contract Mark Connection

His bond with Yang Yong functions as both a restraint and a communication channel.

  • Prevents him from harming Yang Yong or even forming the intention to do so 66.
  • Prevents him from revealing information about Yang Yong to others 66.
  • Allows Yang Yong to perceive his thoughts and emotions, transmit instructions, and exchange messages 66 294 517.
  • Can provide Yang Yong with a point of orientation 224.
  • Communication can be disrupted: messages from Mechanical City’s control room arrived fragmented, and Mang Dabiao’s replies received no response 578.

Driving and Communication

  • Skillfully operates the convoy’s pickup using his serpentine body and tail 63 65.
  • Drives during escapes and controlled pursuits, including the Corpse Mass Monster ambush 75 294.
  • Can understand the nameless woman’s otherwise unintelligible babbling and explain her history to Yang Yong 412.
  • Negotiated a symbiotic agreement with the Twin Green Snakes over the Ancient Well’s protection and formation maintenance 801.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Evil-Slaying Blade — former primary weapon: A forty-meter blade forged by Yang Yong and blood-bound by Mang Dabiao. It shrinks to toothpick size for storage in his mouth and converts lifespan into evil-suppressing attack power. Its flames can prevent regeneration; Mang Dabiao reported losing a hundred years of lifespan after one attack. He also used its stored Blood Moon Energy to double a bus’s speed 152 178 183 295 434.
  • Bone Whip: A freely extending Semi-Curio supplied by Yang Yong. Used for binding and moving targets, including throwing captured zombies into the Light Gate 153 531.
  • Two-Yang God-Sealing Banner — borrowed: Purified his contaminated immortal power and helped him power a rescue formation. He later shared its purification effect with Hu Xian’er 95 96 134.
  • Heavy hammer: Given to him after the loss of the Evil-Slaying Blade. Initially too heavy for his tail to catch, it cratered the ground on impact. He subsequently lifted it and enthusiastically declared it a treasure 645 646.

Relationships

  • Yang Yong — Master, patron, and convoy leader. Their mark binds Mang Dabiao’s loyalty while helping restore his strength; Mang Dabiao openly cultivates his position as Yang Yong’s favored pet 66 783.
  • Hu Xian’er — Fellow animal immortal and frequent collaborator. They worked together on Cao Xianming’s rescue formation and purified their Blood Moon contamination beneath the same banner 95 134.
  • Cao Xianming — Convoy strategist. Assigns him dangerous duties, pressures him to use his blade, and serves as his first recourse when Yang Yong needs help 182 332 578.
  • Wang Ying — A formidable convoy companion whom he addresses deferentially as “Big Sister Wang Ying” or “boss lady” 88 210.
  • Zheng Xiaofeng — Convoy companion whom he dragged through the Ghost Domain’s escape rift. Zheng Xiaofeng later rushed to defend him during his feigned retreat from the root puppets 75 434.
  • Xiao Ying — Quarrelsome companion and temporary wielder of his blade. Her endless zombie lifespan made her especially suited to it; she also beat him for calling her “big sis” 513 566 578.
  • Jiang Chen — Corpse Ancestor whom Mang Dabiao deeply fears. His absorption of Xiao Ying also took Mang Dabiao’s blade, which he later carried out of the world 482 629 645.
  • Long Ya — Yang Yong’s disciple. Mang Dabiao initially suspected a rival pet, then became conspicuously friendly after confirming her identity 783.
  • Twin Green Snakes — Negotiating partners at the Ancient Well. Mang Dabiao arranged their assistance with its defenses in exchange for restoring Qingyun’s body 801.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hospital Ghost Domain

Mang Dabiao’s drinking session with the Foreign Woman Ghost ended when he smashed his glass, disrupting the surrounding scene and returning to the pharmacy. When the group later became trapped in the hospital’s Ghost Domain, he identified collapsing the load-bearing walls as their escape route. He rescued Zheng Xiaofeng through the resulting rift and drove the group away before nightfall 71 75.

Cao Xianming’s Rescue

Unable to perform healing or dream-breaking himself, Mang Dabiao supplied power for Hu Xian’er’s formation while Zhang Bihuang’s holy light acted as a guide. The Two-Yang God-Sealing Banner let him maintain the array despite his sealed cultivation and an external force attacking its patterns 93 95 96.

Underground World and Convoy Defense

His formation knowledge enabled Yang Yong to improve his furnace and forge new equipment. The Evil-Slaying Blade, created inside the underground world, remained usable despite the suppression affecting outside Curios. Mang Dabiao later used it to help the convoy escape quicksand and repel the Forbidden Grannies’ black hair 152 162 178 181 183.

Corpse Mass Monster Ambush

The Corpse Mass Monster targeted Mang Dabiao’s tremendous vitality. Following Yang Yong’s instructions through their Contract Mark, he lured it toward a barren island, then spent lifespan to unleash a slash that split its enormous body in two and left evil-suppressing flames burning across the wounds 293 294 295.

Root Puppets

Mang Dabiao protected Yang Yong while deliberately drawing the root puppets into a dense crowd. His eventual sweep cut nearly a hundred in half, and the blade’s flames burned through their roots rather than allowing them to regrow 433 434.

Mechanical City and the Loss of His Blade

During the zombie fighting, Mang Dabiao’s blade destroyed Withered Wood Zombies that resisted other attacks. Yang Yong then ordered him to hand it to Xiao Ying, whose endless lifespan removed its central drawback. When Jiang Chen absorbed Xiao Ying into a blood bead, the blade went with her; Mang Dabiao mourned its loss until Yang Yong supplied a heavy hammer 565 566 578 629 645 646.

Ancient Well Agreement

Mang Dabiao entered the Ancient Well and negotiated with Little Green and Qingyun, the latter surviving as a remnant soul sealed in a stone. He arranged for them to guard and modify the well’s formation while Yang Yong restored Qingyun’s body. After learning that Mang Dabiao had already signed using his aura, Yang Yong demanded a revised agreement he could sign directly 801.
