| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mythical Zoan transformation | 38 | Gains a humanoid form, greatly increased strength, and a complete Titan Giant Form capable of exceeding fifty meters. Initially struggles to levitate a ship for more than a few meters because gravity manipulation consumes considerable stamina. |
| Improved Observation Haki | 49 | Credits the peaceful surroundings outside Devil Island with calming his mind and improving his Observation Haki. |
| Admiral-level baseline | 52 | His continuously growing physique meets the minimum requirements for Admiral-level combat strength without activating his fruit ability. His full power places him among the sea’s strongest fighters, though his Haki still lags behind. |
| Sharper combat prediction | 66 | Tracking Troius Jeno’s high-speed attacks improves his Observation Haki during battle. It has not yet reached Future Sight. |
| Armament Haki emission | 75 | Advances from the coating he used on Devil Island to emission over several months. Identifies Internal Destruction as the next technique he needs to make his Armament Haki top-tier. |
| Sustained gravity-powered flight | 84 | Can lift a sailing ship and propel it through the sky by manipulating gravity and producing a forward-moving air current. |
| Conqueror’s Haki Infusion | 86 | Learns to coat his arms with Conqueror’s Haki by observing and imitating Whitebeard during their fight. His first successful use remains unrefined. |
| Refined Conqueror’s coating | 87 | Becomes increasingly proficient during the continuing battle with Whitebeard, reducing his disadvantage in direct exchanges. |
| Sixty-meter Titan Giant | 104 | His enlarged complete form marks another qualitative leap since fighting Whitebeard. Exchanges a Conqueror’s Haki-infused punch with Garp. |
| Nearly two-hundred-meter Titan Giant | 169 170 | Years of development greatly enlarge his complete form. Holds an edge over Jörmungandr in strength, physique, and Haki, although Kakarot stops their battle before a decisive finish. |
| Stronger than Whitebeard | 184 | The narration explicitly places his strength above Whitebeard’s. Hades, Lilith, and Athena regularly spar, with negligible differences in their overall strength. |
Background / History
Devil Island and Recruitment
Before joining Kakarot, Hades lived as the Hellfire Demon Ant King on Devil Island, spending his time finding food and fighting other Beast Kings. He originally wanted to leave the island primarily to become stronger 49.
During his battle with Kakarot, he swallowed a few drops of Kakarot’s blood, which weakly increased his favorable feelings toward Kakarot and his companions. After obtaining his Mythical Zoan powers, he accepted the name Hellfire Hades from Kakarot. The group welcomed him and Athena with a banquet before departing for Dressrosa 38.
Hades trained with Lilith, Lina, Simba, Ailik, and the others before departure. He deliberately pressured them enough to encourage improvement while learning human fighting methods himself 38.
Dressrosa and a New Ambition
Away from Devil Island’s volcanic environment, Hades discovered that peaceful surroundings helped settle his previously restless mind. Traveling and reading human books broadened his interests beyond food and combat 49.
Kakarot’s Ideological Program particularly impressed him. Hades committed himself to helping build the society it described, provided he could continue growing stronger and finding worthy opponents. Kakarot responded by promising to build a world-famous arena where powerful fighters could gather 49.
Battle with Hadro’s Pirates
Hades joined Kakarot at the front of the attack on Hadro’s ship. A pirate officer immobilized him with the Slow-Slow Beam, but his natural defenses and full-body Armament Haki prevented the officer from injuring him. Iris intercepted an invisible attacker, while Lina stopped the Slow-Slow user from continually renewing the effect. Once free, Hades pinned the exhausted officer with gravity and Conqueror’s Haki and killed him 52.
After Hadro knocked Kakarot into the sea, Hades immediately stepped in front of the other companions to confront him. Later, the threat of Hades covering the entire ship in gravity prompted the invisible pirate to surrender before he activated the ability 53 54.
Dream Island
Hades and Athena proved difficult for the nightmares to possess because their insect dreams were less elaborate than human dreams. Lilith extracted them through her pocket dimension, and they returned to help rescue the others after purging the nightmare aura 63 64.
Hades fought the Nightmare-controlled Troius Jeno, using changing gravity to undermine the Quick-Quick Fruit’s speed. His attacks helped Jeno recognize the dream trapping him. When Jeno began resisting from within, Hades exploited Nightmare’s divided attention and shattered its consciousness with a simultaneous six-arm strike 66.
Recognizing that Jeno had regained control, Hades stopped attacking and rejoined Lilith’s group. Jeno subsequently expressed a desire to repay him, while privately hoping to enlist his strength against the rebellion in the Troius Kingdom 67.
Whitebeard and Roger
Hades accompanied Kakarot and Lilith to the Wells Sea, carrying their ship through the sky. Eager to test himself against one of the strongest humans, he challenged Whitebeard to a fight 84 85.
Their battle lasted from the afternoon until the following morning. Hades learned Conqueror’s Haki Infusion during the clash and pushed Whitebeard into using the Tremor-Tremor Fruit’s Awakening. Despite drawing blood and damaging the island, he lost when Whitebeard overwhelmed his gravity and inflicted injuries that forced him out of his Titan Giant Form 86 87 88.
Hades accepted the gap between them and vowed to win their next encounter. While recovering, he declined Kozuki Oden’s challenge. He later operated a Recording Den Den Mushi as the group documented Roger’s arrival and Roger’s clash with Whitebeard 87 88 90.
Public Notoriety and Later Battles
The World Government accused Kakarot, Hades, and Lilith of destroying towns and a member state, issuing Hades a bounty of 300 million Beli. The group later released dated battle footage to contradict the alleged West Blue massacre and publicly identify themselves as the Anti-Crime Adventure Group 95 122.
Hades tested his enlarged Titan Giant Form against Garp, but Garp’s superior Haki and technique left a fist-shaped depression in his fist after their exchange. His reputation nevertheless spread widely: Neptune Army soldiers recognized him on Fish-Man Island, and Douglas Bullet knew him from the released battle videos 104 132 135.
Years later, Hades fought Jörmungandr in a destructive contest of strength. Their primal aggression escalated until Kakarot intervened with Conqueror’s Haki, preventing a potentially fatal conclusion. Afterward, the two acknowledged each other as worthy opponents, and Hades used gravity to level the ruined ground 169 170.
Appearance
Hades’s usual humanoid form is five meters tall and appears to be in his twenties. He has a heavily muscled, athletic build; this everyday appearance is described as his human-beast form rather than his original insect body 52 84 87 169 170.
- Six arms: Can extend four additional arms beneath his usual pair, converting all six insect limbs into arms 66.
- Ant features: Retains the defensive armor of the Hellfire Demon Ant and can restore his original ant head and powerful mouthparts while otherwise transformed 86 169.
- Titan Giant Form: Initially stands around fifty meters tall, later reaching sixty meters and eventually nearly two hundred meters 87 104 169.
Personality
Hades loves combat but is initially characterized as rational rather than bloodthirsty, despite having killed extensively as a Beast King. He enjoys the peaceful life he finds among Kakarot’s companions without losing his enthusiasm for dangerous opponents 38 52.
He is protective and capable of gratitude: he shields the group from Hadro and explicitly thanks Lina for helping him escape the Slow-Slow Beam. His interest in Kakarot’s political ideals also develops into a sincere willingness to help create a better society 49 53.
His pride can make him dismissive of opponents he considers unworthy. He ignores Oden’s challenge and tells Kaido that the other companions are sufficient to handle him. Against opponents who genuinely test him, he is tenacious, observant, and willing to learn—even while taking a beating 86 88 123.
His self-control is not absolute. The fight with Jörmungandr drives him into a bloodthirsty frenzy, requiring Kakarot’s intervention to restore his reason 169 170.
Abilities & Skills
Titan-Titan Fruit
A Mythical Zoan combining the Hellfire Demon Ant King’s natural power with the tremendous physique of a Titan Giant 38 169.
- Grants a humanoid everyday form and a much larger complete Titan Giant Form 87.
- Allows six-armed combat without sacrificing access to human martial techniques 66 87.
- Supports selective transformation, including restoring his ant head to bite through Jörmungandr’s Armament Haki and scales 169.
- His complete form grows larger as his strength and fruit mastery develop 38 169.
Gravity Manipulation
Hades uses gravity both to control the battlefield and to improve his own movement 66.
- Restraint: Pins enemies beneath increased gravitational pressure 52.
- Disruption: Alternates heavy gravity and near-weightlessness to spoil an opponent’s timing, trajectory, and speed 66.
- Mobility: Reduces his own weight, anchors himself against attacks, and changes direction rapidly 66.
- Transport: Levitates ships and propels them through the air 84.
- Offense: Concentrates gravity around his punches and creates a gravitational vortex with his six arms 86 87.
- Terrain work: Levels cratered ground after battle 170.
- Limits: Early use rapidly exhausts him, and Whitebeard’s awakened shock waves can dismantle his gravitational attacks 38 87.
Strength, Defense, and Recovery
His original insect physique, natural armor, and Mythical Zoan enhancement make physical power his defining advantage 86 169.
- Fights at an Admiral-level baseline without activating his fruit ability 52.
- Possesses enough raw strength to impress both peak Whitebeard and Garp 86 104.
- Recovers rapidly from severe injuries through his monstrous constitution and Mythical Zoan power 87 88.
- Can contract his muscles to stop bleeding after sustaining deep wounds 170.
- Remains vulnerable to stronger Haki and powerful internal damage; Whitebeard’s attacks injure his bones, organs, and muscles despite his defenses 87.
Haki
Hades uses all three types of Haki, developing their application through training and combat 75 86 168.
- Armament Haki: Uses full-body coating, protects his internal organs, and later learns emission. Internal Destruction remains an explicitly unmastered goal when he reports his progress 52 75 87.
- Observation Haki: Predicts attacks and tracks high-speed movement. His perception improves against Troius Jeno but does not reach Future Sight during that encounter 66.
- Conqueror’s Haki: Projects an intimidating presence reinforced by his killing intent and learns offensive infusion by copying Whitebeard 52 64 86.
- Advanced clashes: His Conqueror’s Haki confrontation with Jörmungandr splits the sky 169.
Martial Techniques and Instruction
Hades supplements his natural weapons with techniques learned after adopting a humanoid form 38.
- Uses Geppo for aerial movement and Soru for high-speed repositioning 52 66.
- Coordinates six arms to block and counterattack simultaneously 66.
- Teaches Little Croc how to gather, release, and properly time Haki, using patient explanations and personal demonstrations 28.
Resistance to Nightmares
His insect nature makes him an unsuitable target for the Nightmare Fruit’s dream-based possession 63.
- His less elaborate dreams leave the nightmares with little influence over him 63.
- After Lilith extracts him and he purges the nightmare aura, he can return to fight while consciously guarding against its effects 64.
- This resistance does not prevent the aura from affecting him initially 63.
