Background and History

Raising Lilith on Zou

Lina was originally hot-tempered and lively, known as a big-sister figure among the people living on the outskirts of town. At sixteen, she took responsibility for three-year-old Lilith when her older sister Lia and brother-in-law Yabo left Zou to explore the sea. Because Lina and Lia looked almost identical, Lilith grew up believing Lina was her mother 1 16.

When Lilith brought Kakarot home, Lina welcomed him into their household, offered him a room, and invited him to call her “Aunt Lina.” Kakarot accepted her and Lilith as his family. Pelosi approved the arrangement, trusting Lina’s ability and character while the guards continued observing the newcomer 2 3.

Adopting Revolutionary Ideals

Lina explained the history behind the Mink Tribe’s loyalty to the Kozuki Clan. According to her account, the tiger, lion, and bear kings had opposed serving the Kozuki, only to be betrayed by the cat and dog tribes. The surviving tiger and lion communities reduced the pressure on themselves by permitting marriages with humans, relinquishing the pure-blood requirement associated with Mink royalty 12.

At first, Lina considered peaceful survival fortunate enough for her small community and expressed a desire to see the wider world rather than overturn Zou’s order by force. Kakarot’s ideological lessons gave her hope for a different future. She asked permission to share his teachings and accepted his Ideological Program to copy and distribute among their companions 12 13.

Yabo’s Return and the Cipher Pol Attack

Yabo returned to Zou mortally wounded and revealed that Celestial Dragons had enslaved his group after CP0 defeated them. Lia had been tortured to death, while other companions remained imprisoned in Mary Geoise. Lina then told Lilith the truth about her parentage and vowed to avenge Lia and Yabo, despite Yabo’s dying request that they live peacefully instead 15 16.

During the subsequent attack on Zou, Lina entered Sulong and helped hold off the CP0 Deputy Chief. She later protected an exhausted Kakarot despite her own injuries, but the deputy chief struck her down and left her near death 18 20 21.

After defeating the enemy, Kakarot fed Lina his blood as a last attempt to save her. It stabilized her failing vitality, and she was taken to Cook’s clinic. The blood temporarily caused childlike behavior, intense attachment to Kakarot, and a greatly increased appetite. Once she regained her composure, Lina apologized and asked Kakarot to call her “big sister Lina” instead of “Aunt Lina” 22 23 24 25.

Voyage and Revolutionary Leadership

Lina agreed to sail with Kakarot and Lilith and coordinated the ship and supplies through Shu Laibao. Their trading and intelligence network had already begun spreading Kakarot’s ideas among overseas companions 25.

After the group established an island headquarters, Lina helped organize its growing community. She welcomed arriving comrades to Dream Fantasy City, arranged their accommodation, and emphasized collective work rather than taking personal credit for the base. She also explained Heavenly Punishment’s role as the elite organization handling difficult assignments 69 80.

Her position became publicly recognizable: Revolutionary Army members on Fish-Man Island identified her immediately as their leader. She later invited Jörmungandr to join their campaign against the World Government, explaining that they were gathering strength to overthrow the Celestial Dragons’ rule 137 171.

South Blue Intervention and Ohara

Revolutionary intelligence prompted Lina to alert Kakarot to Marine and Cipher Pol movements in the South Blue. During the intervention, she fought Sakazuki in a full-strength sparring match staged to appear to the livestream audience as a genuine conflict, concealing his new Revolutionary Army allegiance while testing her Cloud-Cloud Fruit 174 189.

On Ohara, Lina helped care for the rescued Robin. She cleaned the child’s injuries with clouds, provided reassurance, and understood that Robin needed opportunities to contribute rather than feel dependent on others’ kindness 202 203 204.

Worldwide Uprising

While Kakarot recovered from his assault on Mary Geoise, Lina learned that the attack had devastated the seat of the World Government and likely killed Imu. She immediately convened an emergency meeting and ordered the Revolutionary Army to take control of the Marines, rally the Affiliated Nations, and eliminate the government’s remaining forces. Marine officers, civilians, and pirate fleets joined the resulting worldwide revolt 215.

Appearance

Lina initially appears as a youthful woman with white hair, gentle blue eyes, fair skin, and a tall, slender figure. Kakarot initially thinks she looks as though she is in her twenties 2.

  • White tiger ears: Remain visible in her later appearance and twitch with her movements 140.
  • Rejuvenated appearance: After receiving Kakarot’s blood, her face looks fresher and younger, prompting Lilith to compare their apparent ages 25.
  • Later physique: By her early thirties, she still looks close in age to her younger companions; the text attributes her fuller figure to the Cloud-Cloud Fruit 140.
  • Sulong form: Her fur lengthens and crackles with electricity. After developing her Devil Fruit, she surrounds herself with black thunderclouds and golden-purple lightning 102.

Personality

Lina’s gentleness develops from years of acting as Lilith’s mother. She cooks, maintains their home, welcomes Kakarot without hesitation, and encourages both children to care for one another. Her protectiveness extends to risking her life to shield Kakarot from the CP0 Deputy Chief 1 2 3 21.

Her compassion also shapes her leadership. She treats arriving revolutionaries as people returning home, credits their collective effort, and listens to their individual hopes. With Robin, she recognizes both the need for affection and the discomfort caused by receiving help without being able to give anything back 80 202 204.

Lina initially suppresses her romantic feelings for Kakarot because she sees herself as an elder and knows how Lilith and the others feel about him. She also wonders whether her attachment is merely an effect of his blood. After openly accepting her feelings in Loguetown, she becomes more cheerful and playful, recovering the liveliness she had restrained while raising Lilith 56 155 165.

Her hatred of the Celestial Dragons is personal, rooted in Lia’s murder and Yabo’s death. Nevertheless, she initially favors peaceful survival; her later commitment to revolution grows alongside her belief that a better society is achievable 12 13 16 171.

Abilities and Skills

Sulong and Mink Physiology

Lina’s Mink heritage grants her a Sulong transformation and natural electrical abilities 13 102 190.

  • Moon-independent transformation: Training through several full moons allows the group to activate Sulong without relying on moonlight 13.
  • Combat enhancement: Raises her early strength from Vice Admiral level to Admiral candidate level 13 83.
  • Natural electricity: Can supplement her attacks, though her later thundercloud lightning is substantially stronger 190.
  • Stamina limit: Severe injuries and prolonged fighting exhaust her; during the CP0 battle, she loses Sulong and becomes unable to move 21.

Claw Combat and Intent

Lina fights primarily with agile claw strikes, supported by kicks, evasive movement, and Armament Haki. Her martial arts remain a central part of her fighting style after she gains a Devil Fruit 125 190.

  • Hurricane Claw Intent: Creates powerful gusts with her claw attacks; its documented breakthrough reaches Great Swordmaster-equivalent potency 34.
  • Heaven-Splitting Claw Intent: Listed among her mastered combat skills during the spar with Kaido 125.
  • Armament Supreme Intent: Wind and Thunder Claw: Combines Armament Haki, Hurricane Claw Intent, and lightning into an all-out claw attack 102.
  • Speed and interception: Evades repeated Slow-Slow Beams and keeps their user occupied until Hades recovers 52.

Cloud-Cloud Fruit

The Logia Cloud-Cloud Fruit lets Lina transform into clouds and manipulate different cloud forms. She develops it through sustained practice and Kakarot’s suggestions 83 94.

Application / Technique Function and demonstrated limits
Elemental transformation Turns her body into cloud to reduce incoming impact. Garp’s Haki still penetrates her elemental body, fracturing her right claw and damaging her internally 102.
Compressed clouds Launches dense clouds like cannonballs and uses electrically charged versions to intercept Kaido’s Dragon Breath Blast 125.
Thundercloud Descent Gathers dark clouds overhead and brings lightning down on an opponent 125.
Thunder Iron Cloud Sword Forms a forty-nine-meter, double-edged iron-cloud sword covered in powerful lightning 190 191.
Thunderbolt Long Spear Reshapes the sword into a spear with a rapidly rotating head. Pierces Sakazuki’s Armament Haki and torso, though his timely magma transformation prevents a severe wound 191 192.
Iron-cloud claws and body Combines hardened cloud claws with Haki and lightning. Her flexible, shock-absorbing elemental body withstands Sakazuki’s heat and impacts at an increased stamina cost 192.
Natural storm lightning With sufficient buildup, can produce lightning attacks no weaker than those of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, but cannot direct every bolt as freely 192.
Gentle cleaning Wraps Robin in clouds to remove dirt and sand from her scrapes without causing pain 202.

Haki

Lina uses Armament Haki in both close combat and defense, while her developed Observation Haki supports wide-area surveillance 21 184 190.

  • Armament coating: Reinforces her claws, limbs, and cloud-based attacks. Both she and Sakazuki possess top-level Armament Haki during their spar 190 192.
  • Extended perception: Uses airborne moisture and clouds to expand Observation Haki coverage fifteen to twenty nautical miles beyond the island 184.
  • Limits against superior Haki: Cannot withstand Garp’s full-power strike head-on, even with Sulong, Armament Haki, and elemental transformation 102.
  • High consumption: Her Haki-heavy physical exchanges with Sakazuki consume substantial stamina and Haki 193.

Life Return

Lina uses Life Return instinctively to digest the unusually large meal she consumes while recovering from Kakarot’s blood treatment 24.

Organization and Intelligence

  • Ideological outreach: Copies and circulates Kakarot’s Ideological Program among their companions 13.
  • Logistics: Coordinates ships, supplies, and overseas contacts through Shu Laibao 25 72.
  • Community administration: Helps settle recruits at headquarters and explains the relationship between the Revolutionary Army and Heavenly Punishment 80.
  • Strategic command: Converts the destruction of Mary Geoise into an immediate worldwide offensive against the remaining World Government structure 215.

Equipment and Items

  • Den Den Mushi: Uses one to maintain contact with Shu Laibao and coordinate overseas preparations 25 72.
  • Mobile Den Den Mushi: Receives and presents urgent Revolutionary Army intelligence concerning South Blue deployments 174.
  • Ideological Program: Receives Kakarot’s small red notebook to copy and distribute 13.
  • Spatial Ring: Gives Rouge a ring capable of storing her belongings 198.

Relationships

  • Lilith — Niece and foster daughter. Lina raises her from age three, initially concealing that Lia is her biological mother. Their relationship later becomes more sister-like as Lina relaxes her self-imposed role as the group’s elder 16 165.
  • Kakarot — Initially an adopted member of her household; later her romantic partner. They save one another during the CP0 crisis, share political ideals, and openly accept their mutual feelings after prolonged hesitation on Lina’s part 2 21 22 146 155.
  • Lia — Older sister, nearly identical in appearance. Her death under Celestial Dragon torture becomes a major source of Lina’s grief and desire for revenge 16.
  • Yabo — Brother-in-law and Lilith’s father. Thanks Lina for raising his daughter before dying from the injuries he sustained after enslavement 15 16.
  • Shu Laibao — Trusted overseas contact who addresses her respectfully as “big sister Lina” and handles shipping, supplies, and trading operations 25 72.
  • Hades — Companion whom she protects from a Slow-Slow Fruit user. She dismisses his thanks by describing their group as family 52 53.
  • Sakazuki — Revolutionary Army recruit and sparring opponent. Lina reassures him that their comrades will welcome him before their staged public battle 189.
  • Robin — Rescued child to whom Lina provides maternal affection, wound care, and reassurance. Lina understands Robin’s need to feel useful and helps her accept the group’s support 202 203 204.
  • Portgas D. Rouge — Companion whom Lina supports with practical help, including a Spatial Ring; the group remains on Ohara until Rouge can give birth safely 198 203.
