Background / History
Xu Wang lost his parents when he was very young and grew up eating at different households in his village. The elderly village chief took particular care of him. Despite that communal upbringing, Xu Wang learned to defend himself because he believed he could not depend on someone else to intervene whenever he was bullied 52 125.
He became known locally as a little tyrant, with “Brother Xu” and “Boss Xu” among his village nicknames. His rural experience included farm work and climbing fruit trees. By his mid-twenties, he remained single, prompting the village chief to deliver lengthy lectures about finding a partner. Xu Wang liked men but feared the elderly chief’s reaction if he told him 6 27 52 134. Before transmigrating, he had several million in savings and an old house with a large courtyard 94.
Xu Wang fell asleep after reading a novel and awakened inside it, holding a marriage certificate beside his favorite character, the archvillain Pei Yanchuan. He received the original owner’s memories and discovered that his new body was an omega’s. To his relief, the original owner had possessed considerable strength since childhood, although his timid personality had kept it hidden 1.
The original owner belonged to the minor Xu family. In the novel’s original storyline, he died, after which his relatives repeatedly exploited his nominal marriage to obtain benefits from the Pei family. Xu Wang remembered these events particularly well because he had paid close attention to Pei Yanchuan’s storyline 9.
Appearance
Xu Wang has a slightly chubby face, fair skin, and smooth, soft hands 1 3 4.
- Scent: A faint mint scent accompanies him; it becomes pronounced during his feverish episode 28 52.
- Formal clothing: He wears a bespoke suit for his staged visit to the Xu family and a matching black suit with Pei Yanchuan for their wedding 56 258.
- Country S outfit: For the surprise romantic event, he is dressed in a fitted white court outfit decorated with round pearls 256.
Personality
Xu Wang is outspoken, competitive, and quick to retaliate against mistreatment. His response to childhood vulnerability was to become difficult to intimidate: he fought back against bullies and worked to surpass people who looked down on him. He carries that attitude into the novel’s world, refusing to behave like the fragile omega others expect 6 125.
He is also a practiced schemer. He can sound distressed while manipulating Father Xu into transferring money, or appear frightened immediately after overpowering Pei Feng. His supposedly delicate behavior around Pei Yanchuan contrasts sharply with the strength and confidence witnessed by the show’s guests and viewers 3 9 28.
His affection is unusually direct. He calls Pei Yanchuan “hubby” upon meeting him, initiates physical affection, and openly praises him. Knowing how Pei Yanchuan was treated as a child, Xu Wang deliberately feeds him his favorite prawns and resolves to spoil him 1 2 6. His protectiveness becomes especially fierce around Zhong Ran and Leng Yifan, whom he associates with danger to his husband 127 184.
As an employer, Xu Wang values protection and fair treatment. He believes Yu Yuan’s claim to his songs, offers legal support, and forbids both internal infighting and casting-couch practices at his company. He later insists that Yu Yuan deserves credit for choosing to resist exploitation 125 248.
- Food preferences: Strongly favors meat and seafood; during one shopping challenge, he spends his entire budget on them without buying vegetables 10 113.
- Curiosity: Enjoys gossip and takes an active interest in Yun Xi and Jiang Xiubai’s relationship 103 144 171.
- Competitive romance: Repeatedly tries to gain the upper hand with Pei Yanchuan, including researching kissing advice and turning a set of gold bracelets into a prank 203 249.
