Background / History
Upbringing
Inosuke was raised by wild boars in a dark cave, where he fought wild animals to survive. His origins remain a source of distress: during a nightmare, indistinct figures resembling unknown parents abandon him among hostile beasts, leaving him questioning whether he is human or animal 67.
Mount Natagumo
Inosuke first appears taunting a Spider Demon in a tree. After the demon transforms, his twin-blade attack fails to penetrate its carapace. It shatters his swords and throws him through several saplings, leaving him badly injured. Kirishima Bupai intervenes just before its finishing blow and severs its limbs faster than Inosuke can follow 34.
Although overwhelmed by Kirishima’s strength, Inosuke warns him when the demon regenerates and attacks again. His awe soon gives way to competitiveness: believing the demon to be one of the Twelve Kizuki, he challenges Kirishima to a duel to prove himself the strongest. Kirishima knocks him down, orders him to stop aggravating his injuries, and corrects his assessment of the demon 35 36.
Kirishima then gives him nine chocolates while insisting there are eight. The counting trick leaves Inosuke unable to reconcile the total, a confusion that persists after the battle 36 51.
Protecting Tanjiro and Nezuko
Kirishima sends a Bright Red Blade bearing the message “Boar’s Head, save earrings.” Inosuke strikes it with his broken swords, accidentally turning them scarlet, then charges Kanao Tsuyuri to protect Tanjiro and Nezuko. Despite his injuries, he interrupts Kanao’s attack on Nezuko’s box and continues fighting after she cuts his arm 46.
When Tanjiro attempts a headbutt, Inosuke grabs Kanao from behind to prevent her escape. His pull instead makes her stumble into Tanjiro’s forehead chest-first, leaving all three bewildered. A Kasugai Crow ends the confrontation by announcing orders to bring Tanjiro and Nezuko to headquarters alive 46 47.
Butterfly Mansion Recovery
At the Butterfly Mansion, Inosuke remains convinced that one chocolate has disappeared, even though he has eaten all nine. He proudly counts the nine wrappers as eight and takes the others’ concern as an insult to his intelligence. Aoi Kanzaki sedates him, and Shinobu Kocho orders medical observation while postponing his rehabilitation training 51 52.
Central Station
Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu are falsely listed as Kirishima’s criminal accomplices. When guards confront them at Central Station, Inosuke fights enthusiastically, even grabbing blades barehanded, but the group’s reluctance to injure ordinary people limits their response 56 57.
Crossing Dream subsequently traps him in a nightmare built around his childhood cave, abandonment, and uncertainty about his parents. Nezuko’s flames relieve the nightmare’s torment and eventually wake him. Against the demon’s controlled civilians, his attempt to cut their mental threads fails; after accidentally drawing blood, he hesitates rather than risk killing them 64 67 68 69.
He then protects Nezuko while she burns the controlling threads, using the backs of his swords to clear space around her. Later, he joins the coordinated attack on Enmu’s train cores and helps rescue passengers from the wreckage 70 72 73.
When soldiers and police approach afterward, Inosuke angrily condemns their treatment of the slayers as criminals despite the rescue. Following the incident, he resumes rehabilitation training at the Butterfly Mansion alongside Tanjiro and Zenitsu 77 79.
Entertainment District
Inosuke searches northern Yoshiwara with Tanjiro for Tengen Uzui’s wives and Warabihime. Their encounter with Daki begins with an exchange of childish insults, which escalates when Inosuke mocks her appearance. Daki’s strengthening sashes overwhelm both swordsmen despite their repeated attempts to rejoin the fight 86 87 88.
Kirishima eventually sends Tanjiro and Inosuke away before confronting Gyutaro. After Upper Rank Six’s defeat, Kakushi find the two wounded and supporting one another in the eastern quarter. Following emergency treatment, they are transported to the Swordsmith Village for further recovery 90 95.
Swordsmith Village and Infinity Castle
At the village, Inosuke joins Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Muichiro Tokito against the demons Kirishima leaves for them as practice. The group beheads Gyokko and Hantengu’s remaining clones, while Kirishima kills Hantengu’s true body 109 110.
Muzan later pulls Inosuke and the other slayers into the Infinity Castle. Inosuke attacks Doma from the perimeter alongside Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Kanao while the Hashira maintain the main assault 116 117.
Appearance
Inosuke combines a muscular, scarred physique with a handsome face and delicate features 34 46 87.
- Boar mask: A gray-black boar’s head with prominent tusks; repeatedly damaged during combat 34 46 73.
- Eyes: Emerald green 34.
- Clothing: Usually bare-chested, wearing ragged hakama pants at his introduction 34.
- Build: Heavily muscled, with scars across his upper body 34.
Personality
Inosuke is loud, combative, and intensely competitive. He answers danger with charges and insults, and his desire to prove himself the strongest can override obvious injuries or an overwhelming difference in strength. Even after witnessing Kirishima’s effortless rescue, he insists on challenging him 34 35.
His pride makes him sensitive to being underestimated. He interprets concern about his confused counting as jealousy of his intelligence and reacts furiously when Daki calls him ugly 52 86. Kirishima’s chocolate trick also exposes how easily his reasoning can become trapped by a misleading explanation 36 51.
Beneath the aggression, he protects his companions and avoids killing innocent people. He fights Kanao while badly wounded to shield Tanjiro and Nezuko, hesitates after injuring controlled civilians, and later deliberately uses the backs of his blades around them 46 69 70. His nightmare reveals loneliness and fear of abandonment beneath his outward bravado 67.
Abilities & Skills
Beast Breathing
Inosuke uses Beast Breathing with paired Nichirin Blades, favoring forceful attacks, instinctive reactions, and direct charges 34 70.
| Technique | Documented Use |

| Fourth Fang: Shattering Slash | Attacks the neck core of one of Enmu’s trains during the coordinated effort to stop the locomotives 72. |
| Seventh Fang: Space Cutting | Targets the mental threads attached to controlled civilians, but cannot sever them 69. |
| Seventh Form: Spatial Awareness | Enters a defensive stance with crossed blades against Daki’s sashes 88. |
| Eighth Fang: Explosive Rush | Charges toward Nezuko while whirling the backs of his blades, knocking puppets aside to give her room to burn their threads 70. |
