| Name | Clark Kent; Clark (克拉克) 132 |
| Alias(es) | Superman 128 132 |
| Species/Race | Kryptonian 129 133 |
| Gender | Male 131 |
| Affiliation | Ally of the Justice Gang 131 142 |
| Occupation/Role | Superhero and protector of Earth 132 142 |
| Status | Alive; remains in his universe after Pero and Kara depart 151 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 128 128 |
Background
Clark was sent from Krypton to Earth as a baby and raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent on their farm in Smallville, Kansas. Unlike Kara, he has no personal memories of Krypton and did not receive her scientific education 138 150.
As Superman, Clark protected civilians and intervened in foreign conflicts. Lex Luthor exploited the damage and controversy surrounding these interventions, using edited footage and a manipulated recording of Clark’s Kryptonian parents to portray him as an alien threat 130 132.
Appearance
- Build: Stands over six feet tall 131.
- Eyes: Blue; regain their brightness as he recovers his resolve at the Kent farm 141.
- Superman costume: A red-and-blue bodysuit with a red cape and exterior trunks. Pero notes that its fabric feels fuzzy 129 132 138.
- Civilian clothing: Wears a plain plaid shirt while recuperating in Smallville 141.
Personality
Clark is affectionate, emotionally expressive, and eager to connect with other Kryptonians. When Pero introduces himself as one of his kind, Clark immediately embraces him, delighted that another survivor might exist. He later worries about Kara entering an unknown universe and becomes visibly lonely after she and Pero leave 129 151.
His compassion extends to opponents. Even while fighting Ultraman and the Engineer, he urges them to surrender rather than continue obeying Luthor. Pero eventually concludes that Clark’s difficulty in battle stems less from inadequate power than from the restraints imposed by his morals 143.
Clark is also trusting and vulnerable to guilt. He initially believes in the legal process used against him, only to be stunned when Luthor’s court orders his indefinite confinement. Rajesh’s murder and the supposed expectations of his Kryptonian parents leave him questioning whether he belongs on Earth. Jonathan helps him recover by emphasizing that his choices—not his ancestry—define him 132 133 141.
Despite this insecurity, Clark can inspire others through sincerity. His promise to save the Atom’s son persuades the captive metahuman to risk defying Luthor 136.
Abilities & Skills
Superhuman Strength
- Catches a collapsing skyscraper and lowers it onto open ground, saving the civilians beneath it 142.
- Breaks specialized prison glass and destroys Krypto’s restraint apparatus after receiving solar energy 136.
- Exchanges blows with Ultraman and throws him with a German suplex 142.
- Deliberately limits his force against Luthor because Luthor is an ordinary human 148.
- Remains far below Pero in demonstrated strength; Pero catches his full-force punch without difficulty 128 129.
Flight and Speed
- Travels rapidly between Metropolis and the Arctic Fortress of Solitude 128 129.
- Flies toward space while attempting to disable the Engineer’s invading nanobots 144.
- Cannot overcome the gravitational pull of the black hole inside Luthor’s collapsing Pocket Universe 137.
Durability
- Remains visibly uninjured while submerged in an antimatter river, although the nearby black hole prevents him from escaping 137.
- Survives Ultraman’s Heat Vision, repeated blows, and a high-altitude fall that carries the combatants through the street into Metropolis’s sewers 143 144 145.
- Can still suffer severe pain, exhaustion, and unconsciousness when attacked by similarly powerful opponents 143 144.
Solar Energy Absorption
Clark absorbs yellow sunlight to replenish his energy and recover from injuries 136 141 146.
- The Atom transforms into a miniature sun to restore enough of Clark’s strength for a prison breakout 136.
- Sunlight heals his body during his stay at the Kent farm 141.
- Brief exposure does not fully restore his stamina; he collapses after the Pocket Universe escape despite his earlier recharge 138.
- Access to sunlight becomes critical after prolonged combat leaves him unable to defend himself from Ultraman 145 146.
Super-Hearing and Super-Brain
- Hears Pero speaking directly into his ear while aboard a noisy helicopter 131.
- Uses his Super-Brain to estimate the mass of the black hole Pero compresses 137.
- Understands the difficulty of cloning a Kryptonian, but lacks the advanced scientific education needed to solve Luthor’s dimensional technology problems himself 145 150.
Bio-Electric Field
- Possesses an internal bio-electric field that reacts to Pero’s overwhelming presence during the black-hole rescue 137.
- The Engineer’s nanobots appear to contain a countermeasure against this field, allowing them to penetrate his body and interfere with his breathing 144.
Weaknesses
| Weakness | Demonstrated Effect |
|---|---|
| Kryptonite | Drains his strength and causes intense pain. Luthor forces the Atom to generate it during Clark’s imprisonment; Clark had not previously learned of this vulnerability 133 136. |
| Energy depletion | Sustained exertion can leave him helpless or unconscious. A short solar recharge is insufficient after he repeatedly pushes beyond his remaining stamina 138 145. |
| Engineered nanobots | The Engineer’s nanobots invade his lungs, cause oxygen deprivation, and affect his mind. He loses consciousness before reaching space 144. |
| Overwhelming gravity | Cannot escape the Pocket Universe’s black hole without Pero’s intervention 137. |
Equipment & Base
- Superman suit — His red-and-blue costume and red cape. He admires Pero’s alternate-universe Kryptonian battle armor and asks whether he can obtain a suit himself 129 149.
- Fortress of Solitude — An Arctic base containing Kryptonian technology, inherited information, medical equipment, and robot attendants. Luthor’s forces raid it, but the surviving robots later restore it 128 133 149.
- Robot attendants — Maintain the fortress and assist with Clark’s recovery. Robot Butler Four receives the name Gary after asking Clark for a personal name 149.
Relationships
- Jonathan Kent — Adoptive father. Helps Clark overcome his fear that Kryptonian ancestry determines his purpose by reminding him that identity comes from personal choices 141.
- Martha Kent — Adoptive mother. Welcomes Clark during his recovery at the family farm; he embraces her before returning to the crisis in Metropolis 138 141.
- Lois Lane — Romantic partner and principal advocate during his captivity. Organizes his rescue, brings him to Smallville, and exposes evidence clearing his name 131 135 138 141 151.
- Kara — Cousin. She is older by birth, but her time in the Phantom Zone means she reaches Earth physically younger than Clark. He fears for her safety when she chooses to travel with Pero 149 151.
- Krypto — Superpowered dog whom Clark loves and protects. His capture motivates Clark’s confrontation with Luthor and voluntary surrender. Kara also entrusts Krypto to Clark before departing 129 131 151.
- Pero — An alternate-universe ally whom Clark welcomes as another Kryptonian. Rescues him from the Pocket Universe and Ultraman, while frequently criticizing his judgment and lack of preparation 129 137 145 150.
- Mister Terrific / Michael — Justice Gang ally. Participates in Clark’s rescue and later works alongside him to stop Luthor’s spatial rift 135 138 148.
- The Atom — Fellow prisoner initially coerced into weakening Clark. Trusts Clark’s promise to save his son and supplies the solar energy needed for their escape 133 136.
- Lex Luthor — Enemy responsible for the smear campaign, fortress raid, imprisonment, and attacks on Metropolis 128 130 132 141.
- Ultraman — Clone created by Luthor from Clark’s shed hairs. Possesses nearly identical strength and speed but fights through Luthor’s remote combat commands 143 145.
- Rajesh — Civilian supporter who had previously helped Clark. Luthor murders him during Clark’s captivity, causing Clark profound guilt 133.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Fortress Raid and Public Confrontation
Clark returns to the Fortress of Solitude to find his robot attendants dismantled and Krypto abducted. Mistaking Pero for an intruder, he attacks, only for Pero to catch his fist. His anger turns to excitement when Pero identifies himself as one of his kind 128 129.
Focused on recovering Krypto, Clark confronts Luthor at LexCorp. He takes the elevator to Luthor’s office, breaks through the door, and throws aside the desk while demanding his dog’s return. An assistant livestreams the confrontation, giving Luthor’s campaign further material to exploit 129.
Trial and Pocket Universe Imprisonment
Clark voluntarily submits to arrest because he believes it will bring him closer to Krypto. A Luthor-controlled court uses edited evidence to classify him as an uncontrolled alien biological weapon and orders indefinite containment under LexCorp 131 132.
Inside the Pocket Universe prison, Clark finds Krypto restrained for blood collection. Luthor uses the Atom’s kryptonite transformation to weaken him, then demands the identities of his associates. When Clark refuses, Luthor kills Rajesh in front of him, leaving him overwhelmed by helplessness and guilt 132 133.
Breakout and Rescue
Determined not to let another hostage die, Clark promises to rescue the Atom’s son. The Atom withdraws the kryptonite and becomes a miniature sun, enabling Clark to break free, save the baby, and release Krypto. The ensuing fight destroys equipment stabilizing the Pocket Universe 136.
As the dimension collapses, Clark struggles to keep the baby above an antimatter river while a black hole drags the group inward. Pero compresses and swallows the black hole, then carries the exhausted, unconscious Clark to safety. Lois takes Clark to the Kent farm to recover 137 138.
Return to Metropolis
Although sunlight restores his body, Clark remains troubled by the recording suggesting his birth parents intended him to rule Earth. Jonathan’s reassurance, news of endangered civilians, and Lois’s exposure of Luthor’s conspiracy restore his determination 141.
Back in Metropolis, Clark saves civilians beneath a collapsing skyscraper before facing Ultraman and the Engineer. Their coordinated assault and invasive nanobots overwhelm him. His attempt to reach space fails when he loses consciousness, sending all three crashing into the sewers 142 143 144.
There, Clark discovers that Ultraman is his clone. Pero intervenes before Ultraman can strike the depleted Clark again and clears the overhead rubble to admit sunlight. Clark subsequently retrieves Mister Terrific and brings him to Luthor’s control room 145 146 147 148.
Clark prevents Luthor’s escape while Mister Terrific closes the spatial rift. The conspiracy is exposed to the world, clearing Superman of the accusations against him 148.
Restored Fortress and Farewell
At the restored Fortress of Solitude, Clark names Robot Butler Four “Gary” and reunites with Kara. He objects when she decides to accompany Pero into another universe, fearing dangers neither of them can predict 149 150 151.
Unable to dissuade her, Clark stays behind with Krypto. Pero leaves a golden energy phantom as a dimensional anchor before departing with Kara. Clark feels their absence and considers returning to Lois 151.
