Background / History

More than ten years before the confrontation with Doma, Inosuke’s mother fled the demon after discovering that he ate people rather than saved them. Cornered near a cliff, she threw her child over the edge to save him. Inosuke survived, while Doma killed and consumed her 208.

Inosuke later lived in mountain forests and wore his boar mask for many years. His memories of his mother remained fragmented until Doma’s freezing air brought back images of her comforting him and sacrificing herself 58 144 208.

Appearance

  • Boar mask: A gray boar’s-head mask with hard tusks, worn throughout most of his appearances 52 97.
  • Bare torso: Usually fights bare-chested, including while injured and wrapped in bandages 58 104.
  • Muscular build: His developed musculature contrasts sharply with his delicate, beautiful face 54 58.
  • Unmasked face: Described as resembling a young girl’s face despite his savage demeanor. By the aftermath of Muzan’s defeat, it is scar-covered 279 291.

Personality

Inosuke initially treats strength as a matter of being faster, fiercer, and more powerful. Dangerous opponents excite him rather than discourage him, and he challenges Sasuke specifically because his instincts identify him as the strongest person present. His rule is simple: defeating strong opponents will make him stronger 54 97.

His pride makes defeat difficult to accept. He dismisses Sasuke’s victories as sneak attacks, repeatedly demands rematches, and resents being rescued by him. He also disregards instructions, steals food from his companions’ plates, and calls Tanjiro and Zenitsu by incorrect names such as “Gonpachiro” and “Wenyi” 57 58 63 69 97.

His attachment to others gradually becomes stronger than his competitive instincts. He shields Makio from an attack, risks his life to protect Kanao, and pleads with the demonized Tanjiro rather than accepting that his friend must be killed. Before the final battle, his frantic sword maintenance also reveals anxiety beneath his usual bravado 144 245 279 293 298.

Abilities & Skills

Beast Breathing

Inosuke fights with paired serrated swords, using crossing cuts, spinning attacks, and relentless forward pressure 58 110 159.

  • Second Fang: Slice — Shreds the walls of Enmu’s flesh as he advances toward the locomotive 113.
  • Third Fang: Devour / Fanged Tear — Crosses both blades toward a target like a beast’s fangs. Used against Sasuke, the Father Spider Demon, Enmu’s flesh, and Doma 58 65 97 109 206.
  • Fifth Fang — Appears under several names, including Crazy Fang Rend, Crazy Fang Thrust, Crazy Cutting, and Frenzied Fang Ripper. Its demonstrated uses include destroying flesh barriers, pinning Daki down, cutting ice puppets, and shredding one of Muzan’s hearts 110 158 209 279.
  • Secret Art: Crazy Fang Rend — A full-strength downward attack that tears open the flesh concealing Enmu’s neck bone 113.
  • Limits: His blades break against the Father Spider Demon and Daki’s obi clone, while his ambush leaves only faint marks on Doma’s neck 65 144 206.

Spatial Awareness and Instinct

His heightened senses detect powerful presences, immediate danger, and weaknesses in surrounding structures 54 61 110.

  • Seventh Form: Spatial Awareness — Plunges both swords into a surface and reads vibrations through them to locate nearby enemies 113.
  • Identifies weak points in Enmu’s flesh and senses the hard structure concealing the demon’s neck bone 110 113.
  • Recognizes overwhelming threats, including Sasuke’s Susanoo and Doma’s impending fan strike 145 206.
  • Can be defeated by deception: Sasuke’s substitution with a log leaves him unable to understand where his opponent has gone 97.

Physical Endurance and Pain Tolerance

Inosuke continues fighting through severe injuries and frequently sacrifices defense to maintain pressure 159 279.

  • Gets back to his feet after the Father Spider Demon sends him crashing through trees 65 69.
  • Fights alongside Zenitsu to prevent Daki from escaping to Gyutaro 159.
  • Remains capable of intervening for Kanao after suffering a devastating wound from Muzan 279.
  • Survives the subsequent attack and later confronts Demon King Tanjiro, though his injuries impair his movement 291 294 298.

Chakra Instruction

Sasuke’s Shadow Clone introduces Inosuke, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Kanao to chakra control through a hands-free tree-climbing exercise 238.

  • Inosuke first charges into the trunk, then climbs using his hands and feet despite the rules.
  • Receives instructions to combine chakra with his Breathing Style, but no successful chakra-enhanced technique is shown in this training session 238.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Paired serrated Nichirin Blades — His signature weapons. Both are broken by the Father Spider Demon, and another pair is bitten through by Daki’s obi clone; he is also shown receiving new blades during rehabilitation 52 65 132 144.
  • Boar’s-head mask — Both a defining possession and an improvised striking weapon. Muzan shatters it, but Inosuke later puts the damaged mask back on while calling Tanjiro back to himself 97 279 302.
  • Yushiro’s talisman — Temporarily shares a view of Muzan’s moving hearts and brains, allowing Inosuke to target and destroy one heart 279.

Relationships

  • Tanjiro Kamado — Close companion whom he calls “Gonpachiro” and claims as his “number one underling.” Their cooperation against Enmu develops into a bond strong enough for Inosuke to plead with Demon King Tanjiro to return 113 298 302.
  • Zenitsu Agatsuma — Frequent bickering partner and trusted battlefield ally. Their coordinated attacks suppress Daki, and the two support each other after Muzan’s defeat 104 159 291 292.
  • Uesugi Sasuke — Rival, rescuer, and eventual instructor. Repeated defeats challenge Inosuke’s understanding of strength; Sasuke later teaches him the principles of chakra 54 58 97 145 238.
  • Kanao Tsuyuri — Fellow participant in the Doma expedition. Inosuke risks his remaining strength to protect her from Muzan after recalling Shinobu’s request 201 279.
  • Shinobu Kocho — Fellow fighter against Doma who encourages him to use his strength to protect others, especially Kanao. Her words influence his actions during the final battle 206 279.
  • Makio — Inosuke shields her from the obi clone while trapped underground; Sasuke subsequently rescues them both 144 145.
  • Mother — Saved his life by throwing him from a cliff. Her remembered warmth remains deeply important to him despite his incomplete recollections 208 279.
  • Doma — His mother’s killer. Discovering their connection transforms Inosuke’s desire for a strong opponent into intensely personal hatred 208 209.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Drum Mansion and Wisteria House

Inosuke appears at the mansion wearing his boar mask and immediately challenges Sasuke. Sasuke sidesteps his charge and knocks him unconscious with one blow. After waking, Inosuke independently rampages through the mansion and kills lesser demons 52 54 55.

At the Wisteria House, his attempts to challenge Sasuke continue. Sasuke first restrains him with chopsticks, then defeats him with a wooden practice sword, kicks off his mask, and criticizes his reliance on instinct 57 58.

Mount Natagumo and Subsequent Training

Inosuke enters Mount Natagumo eager to fight powerful demons and separates from Tanjiro to pursue a stronger presence. His attack on the Father Spider Demon fails: both blades snap against its skin, and a single punch sends him through the trees. He survives but resents Sasuke’s effortless rescue 61 63 65 69.

During a later training-ground challenge, Sasuke defeats him through evasion and deception. The lesson that fighting can be “hunting” leaves Inosuke questioning his previous assumptions 97.

Mugen Train

Inosuke joins Rengoku’s investigation and initially falls asleep under Enmu’s Blood Demon Art. Once fighting resumes, he helps defend passengers, maps enemy positions, and advances with Tanjiro toward the locomotive. He exposes Enmu’s neck bone for Tanjiro’s attack and receives Rengoku’s praise after all two hundred passengers survive 103 106 109 113 116.

Yoshiwara

Tengen Uzui brings Inosuke into Yoshiwara under a makeup disguise. Trapped underground with Makio, Inosuke shields her from an obi clone but loses his blades and is overwhelmed. Sasuke’s Susanoo destroys the clone before it can kill them 136 144 145.

Inosuke later works with Zenitsu to keep Daki separated from Gyutaro. His relentless attacks occupy her attention while Zenitsu cuts apart her obi, preventing her from assisting her brother 158 159.

Eternal Paradise Cult

Inosuke accompanies Sasuke, Shinobu, and Kanao on the expedition against Doma. His initial ambush fails to penetrate the Upper Rank’s skin. Doma’s icy air then triggers memories of his mother, and the demon confirms that he killed her 201 206 208.

Enraged, Inosuke attacks again but is contained by regenerating ice puppets. He witnesses Sasuke destroy Doma and later obeys the retreat order, carrying sleeping worshippers away as evidence 209 217 220.

Final Battle and Demon King Tanjiro

Using Yushiro’s shared vision, Inosuke charges through Muzan’s Bone Whips and destroys one of his hearts. Muzan’s retaliation shatters his mask and grievously wounds him. Seeing Kanao in danger, he throws a broken blade into Muzan’s ankle to delay the attack before another whip strikes him 279.

Although Zenitsu fears he has died, Inosuke survives. When Tanjiro becomes the Demon King, he cannot bring himself to kill his friend. Instead, he attacks Tanjiro’s legs without targeting vital points and invokes their shared battles, causing Tanjiro to hesitate 280 291 293 298.

Inosuke finally presses his forehead against Tanjiro’s back and demands his return. His voice joins the bonds reaching Tanjiro’s soul and helping burn through Muzan’s chains of hatred 302.
