History
Growing Estrangement from Konoha
The Nine-Tails’ Rampage marks the beginning of worsening suspicion toward the Uchiha. Afterward, the clan is pushed to the village’s edge, while the Military Police Force faces restrictions and repeated supply cuts. By Zongyan’s Academy enrollment, villagers openly distance themselves from people wearing the clan crest 6 7 33.
Zongyan changes Itachi’s loyalties by emphasizing family and clan over the village’s uncertain goodwill. Itachi subsequently serves in Anbu as an apparent informant for Konoha’s leadership, while secretly reporting plans against the Uchiha to Fugaku 6 7.
Fugaku’s Shift toward Resistance
Root’s attack on the six-year-old Zongyan turns the leadership’s hostility into a direct threat to Fugaku’s household. Zongyan argues that the clan cannot protect itself without overwhelming strength, invoking Madara Uchiha as an example of the deterrent such power could provide 15 16.
With the Altar offering a practical route to greater strength, Fugaku begins moving toward the Radical Faction. He cultivates loyal officers through bloodline awakenings and prepares a force to support Zongyan within the Military Police Force 22.
Exposure of Human Experimentation
During a mission, Kawano Shinji reveals that Danzo and Orochimaru used Uchiha clansmen as experimental subjects, including people officially declared dead in war. Zongyan preserves Shinji’s life and arranges a false death report so his testimony and memories can be brought into the compound 32 33.
At Naka Shrine, Fugaku presents Shinji for a genjutsu examination and openly acknowledges his dissatisfaction with Konoha. Members considered likely to report the meeting to the Hokage are subdued and bound before the Altar is revealed to the remaining loyal jonin 34 35.
Shisui remains imprisoned afterward. Itachi attempts to persuade him that suppressing the clan’s resistance would not end its persecution, while Zongyan hopes to secure his cooperation rather than discard his abilities 46 47 48.
Organization
Leadership and Internal Factions
Before Fugaku’s consolidation, the clan is divided into three major factions whose competing priorities prevent unified action 22 32.
| Faction | Position |
|---|---|
| Radical Faction | Demands that the Uchiha confront Konoha’s high command as equals and fight for the clan’s rights and standing 22. |
| Neutral Faction | Avoids political struggles, prioritizing peaceful training and protection of the clan grounds 22. |
| Village Faction | Places Konoha above clan interests and favors compliance with the high command 22 32. |
Konoha Military Police Force
- Command: Fugaku serves as both Clan Head and the force’s supreme commander 16 23.
- Composition: Described as Konoha’s only armed force exclusive to a single clan, and one the village leadership has been unable to infiltrate 23.
- Organization: Includes four duty divisions and smaller arrest squads. Zongyan becomes captain of a four-person Action Squad under southern division captain Yashiro 23.
- Political leverage: Zongyan uses police authority against privileged offenders, including Danzo’s nephew Shimura Hongyu. The resulting dispute ends with Hongyu’s early release and the clan acquiring another South Street shop 25.
- Continuing confrontation: Further arrests of Shimura relatives deepen Danzo’s hostility toward the Uchiha 46.
Clan Contribution System
Proposed by Zongyan and refined by the elders, the system replaces uncompensated contributions with recorded points redeemable for advancement resources 36 37.
| Element | Rule or Effect |
|---|---|
| Earning points | Clan service, guard duty, battles, supplies, and submitted techniques receive recognized value 36 37. |
| Altar access | The monthly awakening opportunity is assigned according to contribution points 36. |
| Resource exchange | Points can purchase minerals and other materials from the storehouse, including supplies needed for awakening 36. |
| Technique access | Stored ninjutsu receive point requirements; members can also submit rare techniques for points 36. |
| Civilian participation | Ordinary members can exchange goods and earnings for resources, including supplies for their shinobi children 37. |
| Initial response | More than 300 of the clan’s slightly over 400 members appear to gather at the storehouse; personnel on duty remain at their posts 37. |
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The clan’s hereditary ocular ability supports combat perception and genjutsu 19 50.
- Movement analysis: Zongyan’s two-tomoe Sharingan exposes attack paths and openings during sword combat 19.
- Illusion techniques: Clan specialists teach offensive genjutsu, illusion-breaking, and mental resistance 18 19.
- Information gathering: Genjutsu is used to examine Shinji’s testimony and obtain information from a woodcutter in the Demon Slayer World 34 50.
- Uneven awakening: Not every Uchiha naturally awakens the Sharingan; bloodline limitations leave some capable members without it until Altar intervention 10 22.
Mangekyō Sharingan
A rare upper form of the clan’s ocular power, historically associated with severe emotional suffering 11 35.
- Fugaku: Possesses a concealed Mangekyō, revealed when the Altar’s aura stimulates his bloodline 11.
- Shisui: Possesses Kotoamatsukami, which can permanently rewrite a target’s will without the target recognizing the change 47.
- Strategic limitation: Shisui’s power is not freely available to the leadership; his loyalties remain disputed, and his chakra and eyes are sealed during imprisonment 46 47.
Shinobi Combat Training
- Close combat: Uchiha Rei specializes in strength, speed, and hand-to-hand fighting 18.
- Swordsmanship: Uchiha Kiyoshi teaches blade techniques, iaido, and practical combat slashes 18.
- Ninjutsu: Uchiha Makoto teaches chakra control and an extensive Fire Release repertoire 18 19.
- Training facilities: The clan maintains a private courtyard with barrier seals capable of containing the aftermath of jonin-level practice 19.
Resources & Strategic Assets
Fragmented Bloodline Altar
- Passive effect: Gradually nourishes living creatures within a hundred-meter radius and purifies bloodlines over time 12 13.
- Active effect: Consumes minerals to grant one bloodline awakening per month without side effects 10 35.
- Scaling cost: Repeated awakenings become increasingly expensive, prompting Fugaku and Zongyan to spread opportunities among multiple members rather than concentrate all resources on Zongyan 10 22.
- Projected potential: Zongyan states that sufficient minerals could allow even an untalented individual to reach Mangekyō within a year. This remains a stated capability rather than a documented result 35.
- Security: Core members swear not to reveal it; Fugaku warns that discovery could bring a calamity capable of destroying the clan 36.
Mineral Reserves
The first contribution-system inventory records the following materials 37:
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Rough iron ingots | 142 tons |
| Refined iron ingots | 68 tons |
| Black gold ingots for high-grade ninja tools | 7.2 tons |
Multiverse Portal
- Establishes permanent passages to other worlds and refreshes a new world every three years 40.
- Conceals travelers’ original-world coordinates 40.
- Gives the clan a possible source of techniques, materials, and territory beyond the Shinobi World; the Demon Slayer World is the first destination documented in use 40 45 48.
Territory & Facilities
| Location | Description and Function |
|---|---|
| Uchiha Clan Compound | Spacious western Konoha territory with dark-timber houses, defensive fencing, and a dedicated barrier. Clan members patrol and train within it 23. |
| Military Police Headquarters | A guarded two-story wooden building at the compound’s center, marked with the Uchiha Gunbai motif 23. |
| Clan Meeting Hall and Naka Shrine chambers | Secret underground spaces house the Altar and host confidential meetings; the approach to the Altar includes traps 12 16 35. |
| Clan Storehouse | Exchange center for contribution points, materials, training resources, and techniques 36 37. |
| Land of Rice Fields Outpost | A mountain base protected by defenses disguised as rock and concealed sentries. It supports covert operations and demon research under Yashiro 45. |
Expansion Plans
Land of Rice Fields
- Zongyan proposes secretly controlling a small country to mine, process, and refine his system-obtained iron mine 39.
- Selected clansmen are to be reported as killed in action before relocating to manage mining and transport 39.
- Summoned beasts and Reverse Summoning are intended to move finished materials directly back to the compound 39.
- By Zongyan’s visit with the captured demon, the clan’s covert control remains undetected 45.
Demon Slayer World
- Civilian influence: Zongyan proposes using Sharingan genjutsu to control ordinary society without open warfare; this is a plan, not an accomplished conquest 49.
- Demon research: Yashiro receives a captured demon and proposes feeding it condemned criminals while studying its regeneration 45.
- Muzan strategy: Zongyan proposes persuading Shisui to use Kotoamatsukami on Muzan Kibutsuji, thereby gaining control of the demons Muzan commands 49.
- Risk assessment: Fugaku warns that the clan has only a handful of top-level fighters and could be destroyed by recklessly confronting that world’s strongest inhabitants 49.
- Demon transformation drawbacks: Fugaku and Itachi lose interest in becoming demons after learning of their human-eating requirement, sunlight vulnerability, and susceptibility to Nichirin Blades 49.
