Background / History

Childhood and recruitment

Sasori is Chiyo’s grandson. His parents died at the hands of Konoha’s White Fang, but Sunagakure offered no substantive support for revenge. He became disillusioned with the village, regarded the Third Kazekage’s disdain for puppetry as evidence of mediocrity, and considered Chiyo’s doting a waste of his talent. His overriding interests were puppets, art, and eternity 299.

After taking control of the Third Kazekage, Yinglang summoned Sasori under the pretext of assessing his Puppet Technique. Sasori noticed the Kazekage’s strange behavior but accepted Yinglang as his teacher after being promised a broader approach to puppetry and a possible path beyond mortal life. Yinglang explicitly discouraged the Human Puppet conversion Sasori had privately considered 93.

This intervention separates him from the counterpart remembered by Sakura Haruno: an S-rank missing-nin, Akatsuki member, Deidara’s partner, and Human Puppet user defeated by Sakura and Chiyo. Those events belong to Sakura’s original world, not this Sasori’s documented history 93.

Sunagakure’s transformation

Sasori became a central researcher in Yinglang’s military reforms. During the first gene-serum demonstration, Chiyo observed that his old withdrawal had given way to excitement at participating in a major creative undertaking, easing her fears about his new association 96.

By the time Konoha investigated Sunagakure’s transformation, Sasori controlled or influenced its Anbu, academy, equipment development, traditional puppet corps, and highest decision-making body. Orochimaru concluded that the Kazekage title mattered little compared with the authority Sasori already exercised, while suspecting a hidden power behind him 126.

He also handled intelligence and wartime policy. He reported Konoha’s three-way division, Orochimaru’s work for Danzo, and the planned resurrection and public denunciation of Tobirama Senju. Yinglang instructed him to monitor the experiments and help encourage the ceremony while leaking news to Danzo’s rivals 118.

Sasori later submitted Sunagakure’s ceasefire proposal. After Danzo rejected it, Yinglang explained the planned joint attack with the Jashin Cult: cripple Danzo’s army without killing him, preserving Konoha’s internal division 209.

His service included arranging Pakura and Karura’s abduction through a false mission, sealing their chakra, and delivering them to Yinglang. Rasa stood guard under Sasori’s orders without knowing that Karura was inside or that Yinglang controlled Sunagakure 219.

Imperial researcher and prospective Technology King

Sasori’s work expanded from puppets into gene engineering, neural interfaces, upgradeable armor, and artificial intelligence. Yinglang recognized his independent devotion to his craft as King’s Aptitude and later encouraged him to take the position of the Empire’s Technology King. Sasori accepted the idea with interest before returning to his research 299 308.

The proposed title formed part of Yinglang’s vassal-king system: powerful disciples would willingly recognize him as emperor without surrendering the independent will necessary to retain the Color of the Supreme King 308.

Mechanical God Cult and Mechanical Star

Sasori devised the Mechanical God Cult’s Divine Grace Evolution System, presenting gene serum as “God’s Blessing” and chakra cultivation as “Divine Grace.” He described this as translating science and technology into theology for the tribespeople. When Nagato questioned whether followers would eventually discover the truth, Sasori answered that they would already depend on the Empire 373.

By Yinglang’s inspection of Planet No. 1, its population exceeded 300,000, the cult had more than 200,000 followers, and its armed force numbered 5,000 enhanced soldiers and combat robots. Sasori had also trained five senior officials to govern it. Yinglang renamed the world Mechanical Star, designated it the Empire’s mechanical industrial base, and left its development in Sasori’s hands 401.

Sasori subsequently advised against relying on religious conversion to conquer Ocean Planet, citing its scattered settlements, pirates, and difficult-to-access underwater resources. Yinglang entrusted him with developing a permanent floating island for the proposed Oceanic Federal Government’s headquarters 402.

Origin Warrior and the Dubhe Battle Group

Sasori volunteered to become the first Origin Warrior, arguing that his responsibilities as institute director, planetary ruler, and Yinglang’s disciple obliged him to take the risk. After succeeding, he identified himself as the Lord of All Mechanisms, Mechanical Star’s guardian, and his teacher’s blade 456.

Because Origin Warriors required unique materials and individual modification, Sasori pursued a separate, scalable soldier program modeled after himself. This became the Dubhe Battle Group, organized into ten companies totaling 1,000 soldiers 457 458.

Companies Function Strength at founding
1st Company — Cardinal Guard Guard formation 100
2nd–5th Companies Combat companies 400
6th–9th Companies Reserve companies 400
10th Company Reconnaissance 100

All soldiers had completed standard-grade modification; 300 had completed elite-grade modification, and ten had completed superpower-grade modification 458.

The formation underwent one year of training inside the Soul-Searching Illusionary Realm while only one day passed outside. On emerging, its soldiers knelt and addressed Sasori as “Father” 459.

During the subsequent demonstration, Sasori assessed that the group could defeat a Six Paths-level opponent, but only at the cost of hundreds of soldiers. He acknowledged them as his children while maintaining that commanders such as Nagato and Yahiko could not risk dying merely to reduce those losses 460.

Star Realm Army and further development

After suffering severe damage in battle against Yandō, Sasori repaired and further modified his body. He continued working from a wheelchair while proposing a regular Star Realm Army, recommending Yutian as marshal and estimating that 800,000 soldiers could be assembled within three years 470.

Sasori prepared Yutian’s Origin Warrior modification and named the resulting Six Paths-level warrior the Withered Lord. He also supplied gene-serum designs and instructed Yutian to revise them for his own battle group and learn to act as its Gene Father 470 471.

On Iron Remains Star, Sasori reported the acquisition of advanced technology, vast metal resources, and 50,000 Star Realm Army troops. His exploration with Tiegu and the Dubhe 1st Company uncovered an ancient Machine God fragment that he believed could advance imperial technology 476.

His later food research produced both an atmospheric food synthesizer and a corpse-processing ration machine. Yinglang ordered the latter destroyed and classified corpse rice as a forbidden technique, while directing Sasori to continue developing air food 491.

Appearance

  • Childhood: Appears about ten years old when recruited, with vivid red hair, delicate features, and an unusually cold expression. Wears Sunagakure Genin clothing and carries a scroll almost twice his size 93.
  • Researcher: Develops a lean, muscular build and wears a modified dark-purple, high-collared uniform with rimless glasses. His eyes are described as Golden Serpent Eyes 157 159.
  • Origin Warrior: Grows from approximately 1.7 meters to 2.2 meters, with broad shoulders and a heavily muscular body. His pupils become deep purple with moving circuit-like patterns; pale-gold light flows beneath his skin, and pale-blue energy flickers beneath his nails 456.
  • Battle attire: Wears custom deep-purple Battle Armor bearing a golden gear emblem with the character “丰” at its center 457.
  • Post-Yandō repairs: Has a replaced left arm, a shock absorber in his right leg, an alloy spinal brace, and mechanical eyes displaying streams of data 470.

Personality

Sasori is restrained, analytical, and intensely absorbed in his work. He considers grief useless rather than proof of indifference: he remembers feeling sadness at his parents’ deaths but shedding no tears. His response to established authority is often scorn rather than hatred, because he places little value on village prestige, political office, or conventional rules 299.

Yinglang redirects his pursuit of a fixed, perfect “eternal” form toward creations capable of growth. Sasori is particularly inspired by the idea of equipment that evolves alongside its user, marking a change from his earlier artistic philosophy 137.

His devotion to Yinglang is unusually personal. Asked whether he will always remain in the Empire, he answers without hesitation that he will, “Because Teacher is here.” Nevertheless, Yinglang treats his independence as an asset rather than something to erase 258 299 308.

Sasori applies a utilitarian outlook to governance and warfare, treating religion as a means of creating dependence and calculating military casualties with clinical precision. His attachment to the Dubhe soldiers complicates that detachment: he calls them his children but does not deny the possibility of sacrificing them in battle 373 460.

Abilities & Skills

Puppet Technique and technological engineering

Sasori’s original specialty is puppetry. Under Yinglang, he develops it into a discipline combining chakra, biological modification, mechanical systems, and artificial intelligence 93 458.

Food synthesis Builds a machine that produces edible starch and buns from atmospheric carbon dioxide 491.

Mechanical God Scorpion Form

Sasori possesses a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit granting the Mechanical God Scorpion Form. Before awakening it, he develops the following techniques 391:

  • Scorpion King Laser Cannon: Concentrates an energy cannon in his chest; one shot can destroy a small mountain.
  • Scorpion Tail Needle: Venom Bomb: Fires needles that explode on impact and spread chakra-corroding venom.
  • Mecha Giant Pincer Frenzy: Enlarges both pincers; a snap can sever a Susanoo’s arm.
  • Explosive Pincer Blades: Launches exploding blades from his pincers for area damage.
  • Heavy Armor Charge: Adopts a defensive form, absorbs damage, and charges a counterattack.
  • Scorpion Armor Domain-Breaking Cannon: Fires a charged energy blast capable of destroying a city.
  • Final Scorpion Tail Judgment: Turns his tail into a giant sword capable of cleaving through a mountain range.

Mechanical Domain

Awakening the Mechanical God Scorpion Devil Fruit grants Sasori a Mechanical Domain, powered by his Core Spirit Nucleus 456.

  • Within the demonstrated domain, Tsunade feels that Sasori’s will determines whether she can move.
  • Sasori can retract the domain at will.
  • He describes its power as a combination of technology, Devil Fruit abilities, and Yinglang’s bloodline rather than a path belonging to the Sage of Six Paths’ system 456.

Origin Warrior physiology

Sasori’s transformation integrates several unique components rather than relying on a reproducible serum alone 456.

Component Function / Limitation
Fengshou’s Ōtsutsuki immortal cells Intended to greatly extend lifespan and maximize bodily repair through cells with virtually unlimited division. They resist aging, not death, and can erode the host’s will.
All-Mechanism Analysis Crystal Analyzes, neutralizes, and integrates foreign genetic information, minimizing the invasive influence of the Ōtsutsuki cells.
Core Spirit Nucleus A miniature AllSpark-derived core functioning as a living chakra reactor. Increases chakra recovery, enhances bodily functions, and integrates his Devil Fruit abilities with his body.
Yinglang’s primordial stem cells Drives higher bodily evolution and activates his physical potential, technological aptitude, and Mechanical God Scorpion abilities.

All component functions are explained during preparation for his transformation 456.

Three Colors of Yin Release

By his Super Kage assessment, Sasori reports 391:

  • Color of the Supreme King — Intermediate: Cultivated by projecting his independent will outward; Yinglang identifies Intimidation as its lowest level 299.
  • Color of Armament — Advanced.
  • Color of Observation — Top-level.

Human–machine coordination

Sasori demonstrates integrated biological and mechanical limbs while introducing the Dubhe soldiers’ equipment 458.

  • Arms can become launchers, fists can become impact hammers, fingers can become grappling claws, and legs can incorporate spring mechanisms.
  • He demonstrates an arm-mounted projectile by destroying a watchtower.
  • The system combines close combat, ranged fire, and mechanical functions within one body 458.

Intelligence and administration

  • Political analysis: Explains the strategic pressures behind Danzo’s support for an undying army and monitors developments through imperial sources 118.
  • Intrusion monitoring: Identifies an exceptionally concealed, fast-moving chakra signal approaching Sunagakure from the Land of Fire; the intruder is Jiraiya 192.
  • Planetary government: Trains senior officials and oversees Mechanical Star’s industrial, religious, and military development 401.
  • Awakened research: Explains the growth potential of Ocean Planet’s mutant bloodlines and the exhaustion and Ōtsutsuki-activation risks associated with Kāma marks 451.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Eight-Headed Serpent Bone Sword: A grayish-white, roughly three-foot blade forged from the serpent’s vertebrae, with a dark-red gemstone in its hilt. Yinglang gives it to Sasori as a personal reward 271.
    • Its venom has no antidote, prevents wounds from healing, and continually corrodes chakra.
    • Its Cursed Seal gradually destroys a victim’s sanity and turns their flesh serpentine.
    • It absorbs the vital essence of dead creatures to heal its wielder.
    • It releases serpent phantoms that bite enemies and drain chakra.
    • It is comparatively weak against Yang Release, Senjutsu, and Six Paths Power. Prolonged use can make its wielder brutal and bloodthirsty 271.
  • Lord of All Mechanisms Battle Armor: Custom combat armor made for his transformed body, distinguished by its deep-purple color and golden gear emblem 457.
  • Cardinal Transforming Blade: Carried on his back during the Dubhe Battle Group’s martial demonstration 460.
  • Paired folding puppets: One offensive and one defensive, carried at his waist. They use alloy frames, biomimetic metal skeletons, biomimetic fibers, and AI chips. Independent power reactors allow short periods of autonomous combat without chakra; the defensive puppet can expand into a large shield 458 460.
  • Float-Float Devil Fruit: Entrusted to him as the intended core of Ocean Planet’s permanent floating headquarters; the account does not state that he consumes it 402.

  • Yutian — Recipient of Sasori’s Origin Warrior research and recommended marshal of the Star Realm Army. Sasori guides him toward becoming a Gene Father in his own right 470 471.

Notable Quotes

“Orochimaru is a madman. I’m not.” 387

“My path is not the Sage of Six Paths’ path. It is Teacher’s path. The Empire’s path.” 456

Trivia

  • “Snake of the Red Sands” is a teasing nickname arising from comparisons with Orochimaru and his possession of the serpent bone sword. Sasori repeatedly objects that he is not a snake 257 271.
  • “Great Scorpion Maru” is another Orochimaru-related joke, explained by Tsunade as combining part of Orochimaru’s name with Sasori’s 387.
  • Sasori projects images of snow onto his headquarters windows because he likes its cold, white cleanliness. Mechanical Star itself has no snow, only a gray-blue sky and continuous industrial emissions 470.
