| First planetary conquest | 473 475 476 | The Empire launches its first interstellar campaign, subdues Iron Remains Star, and adds 50,000 selected local recruits to the Star Realm Army. |
History
Founding and Imperial Proclamation
Yinglang conceived Great Britain while establishing a foothold on the newly discovered continent. He intended to bring its indigenous population under his control through military intimidation, assimilation, technology, tools, and medicine. The country was explicitly envisioned as a realm in which he could implement his own will without outside restraints 38.
More than five years after the initial landing, Yutian proclaimed the Great British Empire before its assembled military and population. Yinglang received the imperial title Shiwu, while Yutian became Imperial Grand Duke Zhenyuan. After the ceremony, Yinglang described the existing slave-based economy as a temporary foundation and entrusted Yutian with preparing a gradual transition toward enhanced imperial citizens 115.
Continental Growth
The Empire expanded through immigration, ninja recruitment, commercial activity, and colonization. Rōran became a channel for displaced people, including refugees screened for ninja potential. Shiya’s first screening selected 37 promising recruits, twelve of whom were judged capable of potentially becoming Jonin 200 201.
Overseas expansion established vassal kingdoms and supplied the Empire with resources and labor. Yinglang openly described a colonial policy of installing puppet regimes, transferring local resources to the imperial center, accepting compliant inhabitants as subjects, and enslaving those who refused submission 264 268.
Expansion Among the Stars
The Empire extended its institutions beyond the British Continent through Mechanical Star’s industrial development and Ocean Planet’s naval and federal administration. On Mechanical Star, the Mechanical God Cult combined settlement-building, technology, and religious authority; on Ocean Planet, imperial leaders developed naval bases, observation stations, and an air force 373 401 450.
Its first interstellar conquest targeted Iron Remains Star. After destroying organized resistance, the Empire introduced rationing, military-merit rewards, recruitment, and civilian labor assignments. It subsequently approached Deep Forest Ancient Vine Star through proposed resource exchanges rather than immediate annexation, offering trading posts without troops, missionary work, or interference in internal affairs 475 476 477.
Government and Society
Imperial Authority
- Emperor: Yinglang holds supreme authority, represented by the Imperial Seal, and personally directs strategic development 200 472.
- Administration: Senior ministers, a bureaucracy, regional princes and grand dukes, laws, and established interest groups sustain daily government. Yinglang argues that these institutions make the state more durable than any single ruler 130.
- Imperial Council: Consorts and leading officials participate in major strategic meetings, including preparations for interstellar expansion 472.
- Accountability doctrine: Yinglang teaches that power entails responsibility. An emperor who brings disaster upon the country may legitimately be removed by capable ministers, nobles, or others; he calls this “setting things right,” rather than rebellion 132.
Social Hierarchy
The early Empire uses a six-tier society comprising slaves, freemen, commoners, citizens, gentry, and nobles 115 132.
| Group | Documented position |
|---|---|
| Slaves and freemen | Supply much of the labor used to build factories, roads, docks, and the army during the Empire’s initial accumulation of wealth 115. |
| Commoners and other ordinary subjects | Owe taxation and military service in exchange for protection, livelihood, and opportunities to rise 132. |
| Citizens | Include military mainstays, technical foremen, junior officials, and modest farm or workshop owners; their interests are closely tied to imperial rule 115. |
| Gentry | Include senior administrators, officers, and scholars responsible for administration, military loyalty, training talent, and useful knowledge 132. |
| Nobles | Hold titles, fiefs, and privileges granted by the emperor; maintaining their position requires continued service and merit 129 132. |
Social advancement is possible despite the hierarchy. Oleg, purchased as a slave from the Shinobi World, becomes Mechanical Star’s Minister of Military Affairs within two years 401.
Nobility and Succession
- Limited nobility: Fourteen registered noble houses possess defined titles and fiefs at the time of Yinglang’s discussion with Sakura. Their founders earned recognition through settlement, warfare, suppression of rebellions, and institution-building 133.
- Declining inherited rank: Descendants who fail to contribute face reductions in title and fief, preventing privileged families from indefinitely living on ancestral achievements 129 132.
- Lifespan concerns: Yinglang warns that life extension could allow nobles to accumulate excessive resources and power over unusually long lives 133.
- Imperial succession: The eldest legitimate son is designated crown prince. Other imperial sons receive an imperial education and, upon adulthood, are intended to leave the capital for royal fiefs with limited populations and troops 129.
- Early kingship restriction: Yinglang initially reserves living kingships for the Toyotomi name, with grand duke as the highest ordinary rank for outsiders. Exceptional servants may receive the imperial surname or a posthumous kingship 129.
- Later royal arrangements: He subsequently proposes Sasori as Technology King and Nagato as Shadow King, and offers island kingships to distinguished imperial subjects on Ocean Planet 308 403.
The imperial genealogy identifies Toyotomi Liuli as empress and Toyotomi Ryukōshi as crown prince. Kushina’s son Toyotomi Jilan is the eldest imperial son, distinct from the designated heir 389.
Governing Ideology
- Reciprocal obligation: Protection, status, resources, taxation, military service, and merit are presented as explicit exchanges rather than unconditional entitlements 132.
- Order as a foundation: Yinglang seeks to make populations dependent on imperial rules and protection until allegiance becomes an ingrained habit 369.
- Religion as an instrument: The Mechanical God Cult frames Gene Serum as “God’s Blessing” and chakra cultivation as “Divine Grace.” Yinglang insists that religion remain a tool of the Empire 373 401.
- Expansion as security: Yinglang repeatedly argues that stagnation would allow enemies to overtake and destroy the Empire 236 476.
- Negotiation from strength: On Deep Forest Ancient Vine Star, he presents sufficient imperial power as the means to obtain favorable exchanges without fighting 477 478.
Leadership
- Toyotomi Yinglang — Founder, Emperor Shiwu, and strongest individual; directs imperial strategy and develops many of its transformative technologies 115 292 480.
- Toyotomi Liuli — Empress and mother of Crown Prince Ryukōshi; participates in the Imperial Council 389 472.
- Yutian — Imperial Grand Duke Zhenyuan and governor; oversees state affairs, education, and logistics. As Ksitigarbha King, he manages the Underworld, and later commands the Withered Ruins Battle Group and Star Realm Army 115 233 470 471.
- Sasori — Leader of the Institute of Technology and Mechanical God Cult; administers Mechanical Star and leads the Dubhe Battle Group 258 401 470.
- Nagato — Fleet Admiral responsible for imperial naval power and Ocean Planet’s security 450 472.
- Yahiko — President of the Oceanic Federal Government; organizes member-state administration and works with Nagato on planetary security 450 472.
- Konan — Air Force commander, tasked with developing aerial bases, patrols, and strike capability 450 472.
- Kaguya — Imperial pillar identified as the Moon God; assigned to lead the first round of Star Sea Missionary Work 369 391 472.
Territories and Dependencies
| Location | Relationship and function |
|---|---|
| British Continent | Imperial heartland containing New Capital, the Imperial Palace, factories, schools, hospitals, and major military institutions 129 435. |
| Black Horn, Hundred Trees, Thousand Mountains, and Yellow Sand Kingdoms | Four named vassal kingdoms. Yellow Sand possesses petroleum, which Yinglang orders protected despite lacking an immediate means to exploit it 268. |
| Rōran | Immigration and recruitment channel; its public desert-development program conceals the onward movement of settlers to imperial destinations 201 401. |
| Mechanical Star | Formerly Planet No. 1; designated the Empire’s mechanical industrial base under Sasori. Its population exceeds 300,000 when renamed 401. |
| Ocean Planet | Administered through naval power and the Oceanic Federal Government. Member-state kings provide fees, resources, land, or people in exchange for protection 409 437. |
| Iron Remains Star | First interstellar conquest; supplies recruits, recoverable technology, and large quantities of high-purity alloys 475 476. |
| Heavenly Court and Underworld | Imperial supernatural infrastructure designed around transport, strategic resources, the afterlife, and reincarnation 233 292 305. |
Deep Forest Ancient Vine Star is not documented as an imperial possession. Yinglang proposes trading rights with its Tree Domain Kingdom, explicitly offering no garrison, missionary activity, or interference in domestic affairs 477.
Population and Settlement
| Population milestone | Scope | Chapter |
|---|---|---|
| Approximately 400,000 | People under imperial rule at the time of Yinglang’s explanation to Sakura | 132 |
| More than 930,000 | Reported imperial population, with continued immigration through Rōran | 236 |
| 1.6 million | British Continent | 268 |
| More than 4 million | British Continent | 435 |
- Preferred immigration: Yinglang prioritizes Ocean Planet and Mechanical Star, followed by colonial populations. Technicians and craftsmen are to arrive first, in stages 435.
- Shinobi World immigration: Later postponed because Yinglang considers its population poorly suited to the Empire’s needs 435.
- Fertility incentives: Rewards for larger families include land, tax relief, education and employment priority, chakra seeds, Devil Fruits, and noble titles 435.
- Integration: Iron Remains Star’s Machine Race, cyborgs, and scavengers are incorporated as imperial soldiers and workers rather than maintained solely as separate local groups 476.
Armed Forces
| Force | Role and distinguishing features |
|---|---|
| Standing Army | Firearm-equipped conventional force with artillery support; reported at 100,000 troops during continental expansion 264. |
| Ninja Corps | Reported at 10,000 members, all at least Chunin 264. |
| Beast King Legion | Uses Zoan Devil Fruits to accelerate the development of combat-ready soldiers 302. |
| Navy | Protects trade and member states, patrols Ocean Planet, and maintains bases and observation networks under Nagato 437 450. |
| Air Force | Led by Konan; planned around three initial air bases and at least 200 aircraft for patrols and strikes across Ocean Planet’s islands 450. |
| Special Forces | Directly subordinate to the Empire rather than the Oceanic Federal Government; recruits awakened individuals to counter other awakened threats 451. |
| Dubhe Battle Group | Sasori’s elite formation, specializing in human-machine coordination, close combat, ranged attacks, and mechanical techniques—the Empire’s “blade” 470 471. |
| Withered Ruins Battle Group | Yutian’s formation for drought-zone control, weakening, sealing, and battlefield suppression—the Empire’s “shield” 471. |
| Star Realm Army | Yutian’s organized main force for independent campaigns and occupation—the Empire’s “fist” 470 471 473. |
- Combined-force doctrine: Dubhe opens the way, Withered Ruins controls and weakens the battlefield, and the Star Realm Army finishes resistance through numbers and concentrated firepower 473.
- Awakened management: Ocean Planet’s awakened inhabitants are searched for, registered, monitored, and recruited; mutant bloodlines are assigned to specialized units 449 451 452.
- Starship program: Mechanical Star receives orders to construct interstellar warships. Sasori projects more than 1,000 within the Council’s one-year preparation period; this is a production target, not a confirmed completed fleet 472.
Economy and Education
Trade, Labor, and Resources
- Triangular trade: Imperial merchants sell silk, porcelain, tea, and spices in the Shinobi World, then purchase slaves for transport overseas. One voyage sells goods for 14,000 ryo and buys 300 slaves for 2,100 ryo, yielding a reported 11,900-ryo profit 256.
- Slavery policy: Yinglang intends eventual abolition because he regards slavery as inefficient, resistance-provoking, and restrictive of human potential. Nevertheless, he explicitly continues the trade while the Empire still needs it 115 256.
- Mechanical Star mining: High-purity chakra crystals can directly support energy production, weapons, and bodily modifications. Sasori estimates the discovered deposits could sustain the Empire for centuries 469.
- Iron Remains salvage: The first occupation recovers 23 pieces of advanced technology, seven intact and sixteen damaged. Alloy shipments over several months exceed Mechanical Star’s annual metal output 476.
- Proposed interplanetary exchange: Yinglang offers iron, steel, titanium alloys, superconducting metals, and other high-strength alloys for Deep Forest Ancient Vine Star’s specialized minerals 477.
Education and Research
- Royal Academy: Yutian is ordered to expand it to accommodate at least 5,000 students 233.
- Nationwide schooling: Yinglang orders schools across the Empire, Royal Academy branch campuses, teacher recruitment, six-year primary and secondary schooling, and four-year universities 258.
- Practical curriculum: Education is intended to produce people capable of fighting, farming, trading, and governing, rather than training combatants alone 258.
- Institute of Technology: Sasori’s research center supports biological enhancement, machinery, weapons, and production infrastructure 258 303 355.
Strategic Technologies and Assets
Gene Serum
Gene Serum underpins both population enhancement and specialized military modification 115 457.
- Basic serum enhances physical ability and can extend lifespan 115.
- Later military programs distinguish standard, elite, and super-grade modifications, with rising costs and material requirements 457.
- Its long-term civilian purpose is to help replace coerced labor with enhanced citizens performing higher-value production, exploration, and combat 115.
Devil Fruit Tree
Created in the Heavenly Court, the tree makes Devil Fruit powers permanent imperial assets rather than one-use grants 292.
- A deceased user’s power returns to the tree and bears fruit again 292.
- Powers can be reassigned to newly distinguished servants rather than inherited automatically by an unsuitable descendant 292.
- The wider Devil Fruit system supports combat, production, logistics, and strategy 305.
- Production-related fruits address food, water, and living-space shortages; ordinary Zoans shorten military training requirements 302.
Heavenly Court Transport and Afterlife
- Underworld: Yinglang begins constructing an imperial afterlife involving reincarnation and a Sea of Memories. He assigns himself the roles of the Ten Kings of Hell and Jade Emperor, and promises Yutian the position of Ksitigarbha King 233.
- Dragon Vein transport: Earlier teleportation formations consume Dragon Essence Crystals and have cooldown periods 305.
- Void Gate integration: Yinglang plans centrally powered transport through the Heavenly Court without those cooldowns or usage limits, including rapid deployment and instantaneous retrieval of imperial forces 305.
- Demonstrated travel: Mikoto later travels between Ocean Planet and the Empire through a Void Gate 437.
Soul Yin Mountain
Soul Yin Mountain converts amplified emotions into spiritual-energy crystals using the Dragon Vein 208.
- Produces approximately 30 Soul Yin Stones per day 208.
- Supplies Yinglang, Nagato, and potentially Toyotomi clansmen who awaken Mangekyō Sharingan 208.
- Cannot be relocated independently of the Dragon Vein 208.
- Prolonged exposure risks emotional instability; its secrets receive the Empire’s highest classification 208.
Production Machinery
- Sea Eternal Spring Water Purification and Generation Machine: Anchors the Spring Vein Fruit’s water-generating rule using Dragon Essence Crystals and supplies New Capital with fresh, mineral, and hot spring water 303.
- Grain-seed cultivation machine: Yinglang turns to designing the Fertile Soil Constant Yield Grain Seed Cultivation Machine after the water project begins operating 303.
Imperial Treasury
| Asset | Capability and restriction |
|---|---|
| Peerless Cursed Sword | Exchanges lifespans, injuries, conditions, and curses between combatants after striking a target. Yinglang refuses to give it away 270. |
| Ten-Thousand Phenomena Mirror Armor | Replicates and returns incoming Ninjutsu, Dōjutsu, or Kekkei Genkai attacks with complete fidelity; likewise withheld from distribution 270. |
| Meridian-Eroding Greatsword | A direct bodily hit permanently removes 5% of maximum chakra and one random Ninjutsu. Limited to three effects per target in 24 hours; bypassed by shields, clones, Susanoo, or intangibility. Each activation temporarily costs the wielder knowledge of one basic Ninjutsu 270. |
