Background / History

Earlier Life and Suguru Geto’s Death

Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri were taught by Masamichi Yaga, whom they regarded as both a teacher and a father figure. Yaga remembers Gojo as originally free-spirited, with his unruliness developing later 4 23.

Gojo finished Geto off before the Shibuya Incident but did not let Shoko handle his body. Consequently, she did not know the full truth behind the apparent return of Geto when Kenjaku began operating in his body 12 21.

Shibuya Incident

During the Shibuya Incident, Gojo killed Hanami. Kenjaku subsequently used Geto’s body to create an opening in Gojo’s defenses and seal him inside the Prison Realm 12 17.

His removal left the remaining sorcerers at a severe disadvantage. Yue Liusi judged further attempts to push into the subway suicidal without special-grade reinforcements, while the enemy concentrated on guarding the Prison Realm before withdrawing. Kenjaku’s eventual escape left the rescue attempt unsuccessful 13 21.

Expulsion and Purge

After Shibuya, the higher-ups declared Gojo to be Geto’s accomplice, permanently expelled him from Jujutsu Society, and made attempts to undo his seal a crime. His students rejected the accusation, regarding him as family 22.

The leadership also began purging the Gojo Faction. The Gojo Clan compromised, apparently intending to wait for his return, while Nanami was placed under house arrest. Yaga—whose association with Gojo had previously helped deter the higher-ups—was sentenced to death 22 23.

Efforts to Unseal Him

Yue promised Shoko that he would bring Gojo back in exchange for instruction in Reverse Cursed Technique. Shoko agreed to teach him without requiring a binding vow and expressed confidence that the Prison Realm could not hold Gojo forever 12 13.

Yuki Tsukumo later brought news that Tengen might know how to release him. During preparations for the Culling Game, Yue assigned Megumi, Panda, and Kinji Hakari to Tokyo No. 1 Colony, instructing Megumi to find Angel’s host, identified as Rika, and arrange Gojo’s immediate release 25 39.

Personality

Gojo is remembered as unruly and exceptionally talented. Yaga compares Yue’s defiance to Gojo’s, while Shoko later treats Geto’s teasing behavior as reminiscent of him 4 5 42.

He openly despises the conservative leadership, describing the higher-ups as “rotten oranges on clearance.” Nevertheless, his opposition is not based simply on eliminating individual leaders: he recognizes that killing them would accomplish little if their replacements preserved the same system 22 31.

Although he dislikes resolving problems through violence, this is not an absolute refusal to use it. The higher-ups exploit their expectation that he will not overturn the entire establishment, even if he returns 22.

Abilities & Skills

Six Eyes and Limitless

  • Gojo possesses both the Six Eyes and Limitless, presented as abilities far beyond Yue’s early combat repertoire 5.
  • His Six Eyes serve as a comparison when Yuki wonders whether Yue’s unusual eyes similarly explain his precise cursed-energy control 29.

Cursed-Energy Control

  • His precision is a benchmark for elite sorcerers; Yue’s control is compared directly with his after acquiring Chakra Control Mastery 18 29.
  • He is named alongside Sukuna as capable of the extraordinarily precise control needed to draw out an innate technique’s full effects through cursed energy alone 47.
  • He can incorporate Blue into his punches; the discussion of this application emphasizes the importance of cursed-energy investment 31.

Reverse Cursed Technique

  • Gojo learned Reverse Cursed Technique independently during a near-death experience 13.
  • His breakthrough is cited to illustrate the technique’s extreme learning difficulty, rather than as the result of successful instruction from Shoko 13.

Overall Combat Standing

  • Yue considers Gojo and Sukuna to stand far above the other combatants present during Shibuya. With Gojo sealed, Yue sees no available fighter capable of stopping fifteen-finger Sukuna 15.
  • His strength is considered sufficient to make the Culling Game a comparatively minor problem had he remained free 34 43.
  • Limitation: sheer speed cannot carry him through a closed domain’s barrier; Yue’s Flying Thunder God Technique is distinguished from such movement because it leaps through space 7.

Relationships

  • Shoko Ieiri — Close friend and former fellow student. She is deeply concerned by his sealing and agrees to help Yue learn Reverse Cursed Technique as efforts toward his rescue continue 12 13 23.
  • Suguru Geto — Former fellow student and close friend. Kenjaku exploits Geto’s body to breach Gojo’s defenses and seal him 12 23.
  • Masamichi Yaga — Teacher and father figure; a staunch ally and core member of the Gojo Faction targeted after Gojo’s removal 23.
  • Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki — Students who regard him as family and vehemently reject the higher-ups’ accusation of complicity 22.
  • Yuta Okkotsu — Ally identified by Yue as being on Gojo’s side despite his official assignment to execute Itadori 22.
  • Kenjaku — Enemy responsible for his sealing; Kenjaku had spent considerable time planning to remove him 12 32.
  • Yue Liusi — Prospective rescuer who promises Shoko his return and later organizes the search for Angel 12 39.
