Background / History

Before the Shibuya Incident

Only four months before the confrontation at S Tower, Itadori had been an ordinary high school student. By the Shibuya Incident, he was a jujutsu sorcerer carrying Sukuna inside his body and understood the danger that Sukuna posed to others 5.

Meeting Yue Liusi

Itadori first encounters Yue Liusi while accompanying Mei Mei and Ui Ui through Shibuya’s subway station. Believing Yue to be an ordinary person in danger, he rushes to rescue him. After witnessing an Explosive Tag and the Substitution Technique, he instead assumes Yue is a weak jujutsu sorcerer using an innate technique 1.

He remains friendly toward Yue, encourages him before departing, and is astonished when Yue quickly exorcises the Semi-Grade 1 locust cursed spirit. After destroying the stake maintaining the Curtain, Itadori invites Yue to accompany him, but Yue declines to pursue his own missions 2 3.

S Tower and the Battle with Choso

At S Tower, Itadori and Megumi fight Liban Erlang before Yue intervenes and kills the curse user. Yue then denounces Itadori as a danger to everyone around him. Itadori prevents Megumi from retaliating, accepts the danger inherent in being Sukuna’s vessel, and insists that stopping would only disappoint more people 5.

Despite the confrontation, Itadori considers Yue a reliable companion. They fight through Shibuya together until Yue assigns him to distract Choso, asking him to avoid a prolonged fight and buy time for rescues 6.

When Yue returns, Itadori and Choso have injured each other in combat. Yue incapacitates Choso, prevents Nanako and Mimiko from taking Itadori, and transports him to S Tower. Although reluctant to abandon the effort to rescue Gojo, Itadori agrees to help evacuate the outskirts and meet Nanami’s group 13.

Sukuna’s Awakening

Learning from Sukuna that Megumi is in danger, Itadori swallows another finger and accepts a binding vow to obtain his help. The agreement requires Sukuna to save Megumi and avoid harming people as much as possible, but fails to define adequate restrictions afterward. Sukuna takes control of Itadori’s body and unleashes Malevolent Shrine during the ensuing battles 14.

After regaining control, Itadori kneels amid the destruction and falls into severe guilt, muttering that he should die rather than endanger others. Yue tells him that Sukuna alone bears responsibility, then urges him to direct his anguish against cursed spirits and curse users 16.

Itadori accepts Yue’s support and vows to eliminate every cursed spirit so that such tragedies will never happen again 17.

Choso and Mahito

Choso reveals that they are brothers through Kenjaku’s involvement, identifying Kaori Itadori as part of that connection. Itadori recognizes Kaori as his mother. Although shocked by the revelation, he quickly accepts Choso as an ally, and the two head toward the subway station to confront Mahito 17.

During the pursuit, Itadori warns Nobara when Mahito moves to attack her. Yue’s intervention saves her, allowing Itadori, Choso, and Nobara to continue fighting together. Aoi Todo subsequently arrives, and Yue studies Itadori and Todo’s use of Black Flash before entering the battle himself 18.

After witnessing Yue’s more powerful Black Flash, Itadori resolves to grow stronger to fulfill his own vow. Mahito is ultimately absorbed by Kenjaku, who escapes the subsequent confrontation. Itadori then follows Yue’s instruction to prioritize rescuing survivors and exorcising released cursed spirits 19 20 21.

After Shibuya

Itadori remains in Tokyo with Yue, Megumi, and Nobara rather than relocating to Kyoto. He continues clearing cursed spirits while the group assists survivors. Jujutsu Headquarters reinstates his death sentence and appoints Yuta Okkotsu as executioner, though Yue reassures the group that Yuta supports Gojo 22.

The group later agrees that Itadori should meet Yuta to deceive the higher-ups before they visit the Tombs of the Star Corridor. When Yue moves against Jujutsu Headquarters, Itadori wants to intervene, but Nanami stops him, explaining that remaining outside the battle is part of Yue’s plan 25 29.

During preparations for the Culling Game, Itadori offers to accompany Megumi into Tokyo No. 1 Colony. Yue refuses because Sukuna must not remain near Megumi, assigning Itadori to the group heading toward Tokyo No. 2 Colony instead 39.

Personality

Itadori is openly friendly and quick to help. He rushes to rescue Yue before knowing anything about him, checks on him when the Sharingan first manifests, and offers encouragement even after Yue declines Mei Mei’s instructions 1 2.

His concern for others persists even when withdrawal would be safer. He remains focused on Gojo’s rescue and asks to help evacuate civilians after Yue removes him from the underground fighting. His desperation to save Megumi also makes him vulnerable to Sukuna’s proposal 13 14.

He carries an extreme sense of responsibility for the harm caused through his body. Yue observes that Itadori treats himself as an expendable cog or vessel. Following Sukuna’s rampage, this self-blame becomes overwhelming; Yue redirects it into a determination to destroy the source of further tragedies 16 17.

Itadori is also receptive to support and willing to acknowledge others’ strength. He accepts Choso’s alliance despite their recent battle and sincerely praises Yue’s Black Flash rather than resenting the difference in their abilities 17 19.
