  • Hiruzen Sarutobi sided with the majority, and Bieshu Feifan left the Hokage Building furious at the rejection.

Ch. 228A Tō recuperated at home

Bieshu Feifan disguised himself as Biwako Sarutobi and sabotaged Sarutobi Tōgo, leaving him critically ill and Hiruzen Sarutobi furious. After Hiruzen fainted, Danzo took over the Hokage’s duties, prompting Hiruzen to rush back to the office.

  • The Nara Jōnin revealed that his son had been attacked and his revolver stolen; the doctor also reported Sarutobi Tōgo was missing transplanted organs, his tongue, and several toes.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi fainted from the news, then awoke to learn that Danzo had taken over, and hurried toward the Hokage’s Office.

Ch. 229Hiruzen Sarutobi's Compromise

While Hiruzen Sarutobi returned to the Hokage's Office, Danzo and the advisors discussed the hidden enemy in Konoha. Bieshu Feifan pressured Hiruzen into nominating him for Jōnin, then tried to add himself, Might Duy, and Might Guy to the Advisor Council, leaving the meeting in an argument.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi returned with Bieshu Feifan, Might Duy, and Might Guy, and Bieshu Feifan accused him of unfairly rejecting his Jōnin promotion.
  • Bieshu Feifan demanded a Hokage nomination alongside three recommendation letters, and Hiruzen Sarutobi wrote and stamped the nomination.
  • Bieshu Feifan proposed adding himself, Might Duy, and Might Guy to the Advisor Council, while Danzo supported discussing the proposal and Hiruzen stayed silent.
  • Utatane Koharu objected, and she and Bieshu Feifan began arguing as Hiruzen Sarutobi and Mitokado Homura discussed matters quietly.

Ch. 230The final test to become a jōnin

Bieshu Feifan passed the strength portion of his jōnin assessment and chose an A-rank escort mission to qualify for promotion. After the daimyo’s son-in-law antagonized him and his team, Bieshu Feifan, Might Duy, and Might Guy beat him and prepared to take him sightseeing anyway.

Ch. 231Gang up on that son-in-law

Hiruzen Sarutobi heard Bieshu Feifan and Shūbiàndiàodiào argue over a disastrous desert trip, then let Feifan go without punishment. Feifan later ambushed Shūbiàndiàodiào with Might Duy and Might Guy, and returned to Konoha to receive his Jōnin appointment and demand land and a high-ranking position.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi questioned Bieshu Feifan about Shūbiàndiàodiào’s complaints, but Feifan denied wrongdoing and the Hokage dismissed the dispute without punishing him.

  • Bieshu Feifan memorized the techniques in the scroll, including Multiple Shadow Clone and Flying Thunder God, but did not obtain the Reaper Death Seal or Impure World Reincarnation.
  • Bieshu Feifan trained harder as he watched for signs that the Third Shinobi World War was approaching, and he mastered senjutsu.

  • Bieshu Feifan stood to speak, rebuked a jōnin who tried to stop him, and told Hiruzen Sarutobi to take notes.

Ch. 236The schemers' approval rating

Bieshu Feifan proposed striking Sunagakure first and preparing defenses against the other villages, but Hiruzen Sarutobi and his advisers dismissed the plan in favor of caution. The chapter ended with Sunagakure launching a large-scale invasion, vindicating Bieshu Feifan's warning and shocking Hiruzen.

  • Bieshu Feifan outlined a strategy to contain Iwagakure, defend against Kirigakure and Kumogakure, and crush Sunagakure before it could mount a desperate attack.
  • Kakashi, Jiraiya, and Minato Namikaze found the proposal reasonable, while Hiruzen Sarutobi, Utatane Koharu, and Mitokado Homura rejected it as too aggressive.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi ended the meeting without committing to a concrete plan, and Danzo later told Bieshu Feifan to share future strategies with him first.
  • The Daimyō of the Land of Fire wrote to Hiruzen Sarutobi that Sand Ninja had appeared in the capital, and an Anbu reported that Sunagakure had begun a large-scale invasion under the pretext of searching for the Third Kazekage.

Ch. 237The choice of commander

After Sunagakure invaded the Land of Fire, Hiruzen Sarutobi chose a Nara jōnin as commander and Minato Namikaze as deputy, rejecting the bids of Bieshu Feifan, Danzo, and Jiraiya. Bieshu Feifan took Kakashi and Might Guy to the Konoha Villa Gang's Martial Arts Hall, then left to seek a powerful backer.

  • Sunagakure sent reinforcements into the Land of Fire and looted supplies, prompting Danzo to urge Hiruzen Sarutobi to adopt a wider war strategy, which Hiruzen rejected.
  • Bieshu Feifan, Danzo, Minato Namikaze, and Jiraiya competed for command of the campaign against Sunagakure.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi approved Bieshu Feifan’s mission to find Tsunade and ordered him to return within half a month.
  • Bieshu Feifan told his managers to expand Hailuoying production and arrange Shinobi escorts as the war disrupted business.

  • Tsunade reunited with Hiruzen Sarutobi, who thanked Bieshu Feifan for bringing her back and told her he would have her house cleaned.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi suggested that Bieshu Feifan had become Tsunade's kept man, so Bieshu Feifan rebuked him, stamped his own mission complete, and left.
  • Bieshu Feifan, Might Duy, Might Guy, Kakashi, Tsunade, and Shizune shared a welcome dinner at Bieshu Feifan's home.
  • Jiraiya arrived, tried to embrace Tsunade, and was punched away; he then joined the meal and asked whether Bieshu Feifan was her kept man.
  • Tsunade called Bieshu Feifan her brother and asked him, Might Duy, and Might Guy to perform; their song and Jiraiya's teasing ended with Tsunade knocking Jiraiya into a wall.
  • An Anbu rushed into Bieshu Feifan's home and urgently summoned everyone to a Jōnin Meeting.

Ch. 241Hiruzen Sarutobi Called Another Meeting

Hiruzen Sarutobi called a meeting as several villages’ movements made a major war seem unavoidable, but he chose defensive measures and kept Nara as western front commander. Afterward, Bieshu Feifan discussed his Hokage ambitions with Tsunade, Kakashi, and Jiraiya, then invited Tsunade to his Martial Arts Hall.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi reported Konoha’s defeat in the Land of Rivers, Kumogakure’s advance into the Land of Waterfalls, Iwagakure’s presence in the Land of Grass, and Kirigakure’s landings.
  • Danzo, Bieshu Feifan, and Jiraiya argued over who should command the western front, but Hiruzen Sarutobi refused to replace Nara or send them as reinforcements.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi summoned Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi, then assigned them to guide Uchiha Zhongfen and Obito Uchiha.
  • Kakashi reluctantly took Obito, while Bieshu took Zhongfen; the two men immediately fought, and Bieshu beat Zhongfen badly.
  • Bieshu saw Kakashi punching Obito near Konoha Hospital while Rin Nohara tried to intervene, and hid nearby to watch.

Ch. 243Obito's Release from Prison

After Kakashi beat Obito Uchiha for pursuing Rin Nohara, Obito encountered a strange old woman and witnessed the Zhurong Armor kill her, causing his Sharingan to awaken to two tomoe. Meanwhile, Uchiha Zhongfen was released from prison, beaten by Might Duy, and went to the Uchiha Clan Compound to gather backup.

  • Kakashi beat Obito Uchiha after Obito approached Rin Nohara, then left with Rin, who told Obito she was already with Kakashi.
  • Obito Uchiha cried over the rejection, awakened a single-tomoe Sharingan, and accepted an old woman's offer to take him home.
  • The old woman insisted Obito ride on her back across the road; after a carriage crushed her hand, Obito went along with her strange custom of crawling across and back.
  • A man in Zhurong Armor repeatedly ran over the old woman with a cart and carried away her remains, while Obito watched in horror and awakened a two-tomoe Sharingan before passing out.
  • Obito Uchiha reported the killing to Hiruzen Sarutobi, whose Anbu could not determine whether Obito had experienced genjutsu or a mental episode.
  • Uchiha Zhongfen woke after passing out, was beaten by Might Duy, and headed to the Uchiha Clan Compound to find backup.

Ch. 244Zhongfen called in backup

After Uchiha Zhongfen brought Uchiha Ji and Uchiha Xiong Da to confront Bieshu Feifan and Might Duy, Bieshu Feifan demanded payment for a one-on-one fight and set rules for the match. The chapter ended as Might Duy faced Uchiha Ji, who activated his Sharingan and realized Duy was watching his feet instead of his eye.

  • Uchiha Zhongfen went to fetch Uchiha Ji and Uchiha Xiong Da after Bieshu Feifan and Might Duy beat him up.
  • Uchiha Ji demanded that Bieshu Feifan fight one-on-one, but Bieshu Feifan required a million per match, so Zhongfen returned to the Uchiha compound for the money.
  • Tsunade and Shizune heard about the planned fight and went to Konoha Plaza, where a crowd had gathered.
  • Bieshu Feifan laid down rules for the fights, including advance payment, no interference, no killing or crippling, and age-appropriate matches.
  • Uchiha Zhongfen paid one million, and Bieshu Feifan sent Might Duy to fight Uchiha Ji.
  • Uchiha Ji activated his three-tomoe eye but froze when he saw that Might Duy was looking at his feet.

Ch. 245The same position

Might Duy defeated Uchiha Ji with the Seventh Gate, and Bieshu Feifan and Might Guy quickly beat Uchiha Xiong Da and Uchiha Zhongfen. With all three Uchiha unconscious, a spectator rushed off to summon more Uchiha.

  • Might Duy used the Eight Gates Technique to overpower Uchiha Ji in taijutsu, then opened the Seventh Gate and knocked him unconscious with ranged air punches.
  • Tsunade checked Uchiha Ji and found he was only unconscious, while Might Guy gave Might Duy water and a Soldier Pill to ease the technique's aftereffects.

  • An Uchiha challenged Kakashi Hatake, so the clan fetched a young Uchiha his age; Kakashi defeated him in under two minutes.
  • Might Guy and Might Duy each defeated an Uchiha challenger while Tsunade treated their fatigue and injuries.
  • More Uchiha arrived and lost to Bieshu Feifan, Kakashi, Might Guy, and Might Duy as the crowd bet on the fights.
  • Uchiha Fugaku arrived to find the defeated clan members lined up on the ground, argued with Bieshu Feifan, and paid a million to challenge him.

Ch. 247The Gang's Expansion

Bieshu Feifan used the Uchiha’s failed challenge to promote his Villa Gang and private ventures, while Hiruzen Sarutobi reluctantly approved his construction land and reassigned Obito Uchiha to him. The chapter ended with Bieshu leaving Obito to handle a pile of D-rank missions as he went to deal with enemy shinobi at the border.

  • Bieshu Feifan avoided fighting Uchiha Fugaku by demanding a hundred-million challenge fee, and Fugaku took the defeated Uchiha and left.
  • Bieshu Feifan’s side celebrated its undefeated challenge record, then posted recruitment flyers for the Villa Gang and its training hall.

Ch. 248A schemer's considerations

Hiruzen Sarutobi assigned commanders to Konoha’s fronts, giving Jiraiya the Kumogakure front and Uchiha Fugaku the Kirigakure front while appointing Mimura Hamaki to lead against Iwagakure. Bieshu Feifan was relegated to a support role, then staged an extravagant send-off before marching out with Kakashi and their troops.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi assigned Jiraiya to the Kumogakure front and Uchiha Fugaku to the Kirigakure front, while Tsunade declined a battlefield command because of her condition.
  • Bieshu Feifan and Danzo each pressed Hiruzen Sarutobi to appoint them commander against Iwagakure, but a vote confirmed Mimura Hamaki as commander with additional Jōnin sent to support him.
  • Bieshu Feifan complained that Hiruzen Sarutobi had placed him in the reinforcement force without giving him command, and Tsunade promised to look after his Villa Gang.
  • Kakashi joined Bieshu Feifan’s unit, which gathered around sixty troops at Konoha’s gate to depart for the front.
  • Bieshu Feifan arrived on horseback to a staged ceremony with marching soldiers, a welcome song, and salutes, then led the stunned troops out of Konoha.

Ch. 249The front line

Bieshu Feifan drilled his unit, then traveled with Kakashi to the front and proposed a raid on Iwagakure’s logistics. He led a small team toward the mission while Kakashi stayed behind to draw the enemy’s attention, and Mimura Hamaki learned the two Jōnin had arrived.

  • Bieshu Feifan defeated two challengers with single punches and got his unit to follow his commands.
  • Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi rode in a sedan chair toward the border, where Bieshu ordered scouts to investigate Iwagakure’s deployments.
  • After learning that Iwagakure had about three thousand troops led by Higashi Shibito, Bieshu proposed wiping out a squad and infiltrating the enemy rear to attack its logistics.
  • Bieshu Feifan won the Chunin’s agreement to the raid, selected five Chunin and ten Genin to accompany him, and left the rest with Kakashi to distract Iwagakure and contact Mimura Hamaki.
  • Mimura Hamaki questioned where Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi were when a Chunin reported that the two Jōnin had been spotted.

Ch. 250Angering the Stone Ninja

Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi arrived at the camp after raiding Iwagakure’s supply station, and Bieshu Feifan defended his unauthorized actions to commander Mimura Hamaki. When a force of Stone Ninja advanced, Bieshu Feifan stayed behind to guard the camp and quietly waited for the right moment to act.

  • Bieshu Feifan celebrated the raid with his sixty-odd Shinobi, divided the captured supplies among them, and sent shares to their families in Konoha.
  • Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi met Mimura Hamaki, where Bieshu Feifan defended the raid and argued that Konoha should focus on killing the invading Stone Ninja rather than avoiding their anger.
  • Mimura Hamaki assigned Bieshu Feifan and Kakashi to guard the camp and began organizing the other new arrivals.
  • A patrol reported that at least a thousand Stone Ninja were advancing, so Mimura Hamaki led most of the camp’s fighters out to meet them.
  • Bieshu Feifan organized the remaining Shinobi to defend the camp, then relaxed with Kakashi while waiting for the right time to act.
