Background / History
Early Childhood
Tang San was born while Tang Hao and Ah Yin were being pursued by Spirit Hall. Ah Yin sacrificed herself to Tang Hao during the conflict. Tang Hao later recalled that the infant Tang San stopped breathing after the battle, then unexpectedly revived 2 21.
His unusually controlled behavior and knowledge of cultivation techniques frightened Tang Hao. Because nobody had taught the child these methods, Tang Hao suspected that a monster had replaced his son. He kept raising Tang San as a potential means of revenge against Spirit Hall, becoming hopeful when the boy awakened the Clear Sky Hammer alongside Blue Silver Grass 21.
Tang San grew up in poverty despite his father's abilities as a Titled Douluo and divine craftsman. Once old enough, he performed household work and looked after Tang Hao 3 21.
Previous Life
Before returning to childhood, Tang San had defeated Spirit Hall and become a God King. His memories included Xiao Wu's repeated sacrifices for him, Ah Yin's difficult resurrection, and his eventual success in bringing both parents to the Divine Realm 2 20.
He had also established the Tang Sect on the Douluo Continent using techniques and hidden weapons originally belonging to the Bashu Tang Sect. The text identifies him as an outer disciple who secretly learned that sect's manuals, rather than the original creator of those methods 21 31 78.
His memories extend into the era when soul tools displaced hidden weapons and the Tang Sect declined. Unable to interfere freely in the lower realm amid Divine Realm power struggles, he waited for Huo Yuhao to appear and revitalize the sect 45.
Return to Childhood
Tang San awakens in Holy Soul Village shortly before entering Nuoding Academy. He retains his memories but has neither his God King body nor the Sea God Trident and Sea God Inheritance 2.
He intends to prevent his family's previous tragedies, reunite with Xiao Wu, and destroy Spirit Hall again. However, his supposedly private thoughts become audible to other people, repeatedly changing events he expects to follow his memories 2 9 10 20.
Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Black hair and black eyes 2.
- Childhood build: Malnourished, with thin, small hands 2.
- Expression: Deep, cold eyes that contrast with his young body 2.
- Clothing: Poor-looking attire that contributes to the Nuoding gatekeeper's dismissive treatment 8.
Personality
Tang San outwardly uses polite language while privately judging people by their usefulness. He dismisses Old Jack once he expects to enter Nuoding Academy and considers exploiting Yu Xiaogang's connections before discarding him. His exposed thoughts reveal these intentions to the very people he hopes to use 2 9.
His former divine status produces a strong sense of entitlement. He treats his attendance as an honor bestowed upon Nuoding Academy, regards Kai's subordination to his family as a privilege, and imagines denying Ning Rongrong a divine seat for displeasing him 8 42 54.
He is vindictive toward perceived slights and often blames others for his earlier difficulties. He threatens Wang Sheng internally for failing to discourage his previous apprenticeship and plans prolonged humiliation for Kai and the Leng sisters after regaining godhood 10 42.
His attachment to Xiao Wu combines genuine distress over their separation with possessiveness and calculated self-interest. He repeatedly calls her his wife despite their lack of a current relationship, while also wanting access to the Titan Giant Ape's and Sky Azure Bull Python's Soul Rings and Soul Bones through her 10 34 42.
Despite his arrogance, Tang San can recognize immediate danger. After Tang Hao is maimed, he rejects another attempt to seize Xiao Wu because further confrontation could destroy their remaining strength 35.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
- Blue Silver Grass / Blue Silver Emperor: His publicly known Martial Soul appears to be ordinary Blue Silver Grass, but he identifies its true form as an unawakened Blue Silver Emperor 9 14.
- Plant control: He manipulates Blue Silver Grass to interfere with Wang Sheng before defeating him in close combat 11.
- Healing Soul Skill: His first ring heals injuries and restores stamina. Its effectiveness is compared with skills from excellent healing-type Martial Souls 27.
- Clear Sky Hammer: His second Martial Soul is initially concealed. He reveals it during the Shrek entrance test, making his Clear Sky Sect connection evident to the academy's staff 34 54 55 61.
- Development restriction: Tang Hao instructs him not to add Soul Rings to the Clear Sky Hammer yet 27.
Mysterious Heaven Skill and Tang Sect Techniques
Tang San retains the Bashu Tang Sect's cultivation methods and self-created Soul Skills 21 31.
- Cultivation: The Mysterious Heaven Skill is credited with producing his innate full Soul Power 14.
- Combat: He combines the skill with Blue Silver Grass interference to defeat Wang Sheng 11.
- Childhood training: Tang Hao observes him secretly practicing unusual eye and hand techniques on the back mountain 21.
- Secrecy failure: Yu Xiaogang learns techniques through his exposed thoughts and later distributes modified versions to Shrek students 19 20 31 62.
Previous-Life Knowledge
- Historical foreknowledge: He remembers his former relationships, major conflicts, future opportunities, and the continent's later development 2 36 45.
- Soul Ring knowledge: He understands the Soul Shock associated with ten-thousand-year rings and believes he can handle its spiritual component. His former fourth ring was already ten thousand years old 20.
- Immortal herb expertise: He possesses knowledge of the Immortal Herb Code and is confident that he can cure Dugu Bo's illness 23.
- Limits: Kai, Gu Luoyi, and the Leng sisters do not fit his remembered history. He cannot explain their early ten-thousand-year rings or reproduce the required physical preparation 14 19 20 23.
Hidden Weapons
- Combat specialization: Hidden weapons previously helped him fight across large differences in cultivation. Being forbidden to use them during the Shrek test substantially weakens his options 55.
- Manufacturing knowledge: He supplies designs to the Strength Clan and asks whether production can be scaled up 45.
- Military purpose: He intends to use their manufacture as a foundation for rebuilding the Tang Sect and opposing Spirit Hall 45.
- Technical limits: His expertise remains in hidden weapons rather than soul-tool manufacture; the text explicitly contrasts this with the later dominance of soul tools 45 78.
- Current physical trade-off: His healing-focused development leaves his physique weaker than it was at the corresponding point in his previous life 55.
Involuntary Thought Exposure
Tang San's inner voice can be heard without him speaking. This is an uncontrolled condition, not a technique he knowingly uses 2 20.
- Confirmed listeners: Old Jack, Yu Xiaogang, Xiao Wu, Tang Hao, and Dai Mubai hear his thoughts; Zhao Wuji also recognizes what he suspects is Tang San's inner voice 2 9 10 20 54 57.
- Apparent pattern: After examining his memories, Kai and Leng Yulai suspect that people familiar with him can hear him. They do not establish a definitive rule 23.
- Tang San's awareness: He notices several people apparently “hearing things” but does not identify himself as the source 20.
- Consequences: The exposure alienates prospective allies, reveals his rebirth, and compromises his secret techniques 2 9 19 20.
- Separate vulnerability: Leng Yulai's Soul Search extracts his memories directly, revealing information independently of the thought exposure 22 23.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Tang Sect hidden weapons — Weapons he has commissioned the Strength Clan to manufacture; Tai Tan confirms their effectiveness against Soul Masters and proposes recruiting more blacksmiths from Gengxin City 45.
- Sea God Trident — A former possession absent when he returns to childhood 2.

Attempt to Seize Kai's Soul Ring Method
- After seeing Kai's early ten-thousand-year rings, Tang San seeks the method needed to withstand them physically. He hopes to use that advantage to lead Shrek and gather the Seven Devils again 17 19 20.
- Tang Hao offers to force Kai into service and torture the method out of him. Tang San agrees to the plan 21.
- During the operation, Tang San hides nearby but is discovered by Kai's companions. Leng Yulai restrains him, searches his memories, and knocks him unconscious 22.

- The stolen memories reveal Tang San's rebirth to Kai's group and prompt them to secure the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well before he can exploit it 23.
First Ring and Xiao Wu's Rejection
- Tang Hao personally trains Tang San and obtains a roughly four-hundred-year plant ring, giving him a healing skill rather than repeating his former poison-oriented development 27.
- Tang San returns to Nuoding to persuade Xiao Wu to leave with him. She rejects his promises and questions his claimed backing 33.
- He then reveals knowledge of her Soul Beast identity and her mother's death, hoping shared ancestry and hostility toward Spirit Hall will secure her cooperation 34.

- The restriction on hidden weapons during his test exposes the disadvantages of his current healing-focused build 55.
- His hostility toward Yu Xiaogang clashes with Dai Mubai's gratitude for techniques that Yu Xiaogang obtained from Tang San 57 62.
- Shrek's staff plan to leave for Blue Tyrant Academy without him, specifically to prevent Tai Tan from discovering their departure through Tang San 61.
- Later, Tang San decides to go to Blue Tyrant Academy and begins wondering whether other people might share his unusual circumstances 78.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father, trainer, and principal early protector. Hearing Tang San's thoughts convinces him that his son is a reincarnator rather than a replacement monster; afterward, he prioritizes Tang San's return to godhood 20 21 33.
- Ah Yin — Mother and a central reason for his hatred of Spirit Hall. Her sacrifice and difficult previous-life resurrection are among the tragedies he wants to prevent 2.
- Xiao Wu — Wife in his previous life, but not his partner in the current timeline. She hears his intentions toward her and her Soul Beast family, rejects him, and wants to distance herself from him 10 33 34 35.
- Old Jack — Village chief and former caretaker. Tang San privately considers him disposable; hearing that contempt causes Old Jack to withdraw his help 2.

- Tai Tan — Protector and manufacturing ally appointed by Tang Hao. He addresses Tang San as young master and supports his hidden-weapon plans 42 45.

- Leng Yulai and Leng Yaozhu — Kai's protectors and major obstacles to Tang San's plans. Leng Yulai extracts his memories, while their overwhelming strength prevents him and Tang Hao from returning openly to Nuoding 22 23 35.

- Clear Sky Sect — His paternal lineage and an intended source of future backing. Despite Tang Hao's insistence on loyalty, Tang San privately resents a sect that has neither educated nor helped him 34 35 36.
