Background / History

Clear Sky Sect upbringing

Tang Hao was raised as an elite Clear Sky Sect disciple and prospective sect master. Rather than attending a Soul Master Academy, he received instruction from tutors arranged by the sect. His talent earned him recognition as one of the Clear Sky Twin Stars and the particular favor of his grandfather, Tang Chen 20 27 42.

He also pursued blacksmithing under Tai Tan. Although Tai Tan had been his teacher, he later pledged himself to Tang Hao as a subordinate, bringing the Strength Clan into Tang Hao’s service 42 56.

Spirit Hall pursuit

Spirit Hall pursued Tang Hao and his wife, Ah Yin, shortly after Tang San’s birth. The pursuing force included Supreme Pontiff Qian Xunji, two other Titled Douluos, and numerous Soul Saints and Soul Emperors. Ah Yin ultimately sacrificed herself to Tang Hao, who defeated the three Titled Douluos after reaching that realm himself 2 21 56.

Kai’s parents died during the battle between Tang Hao and Qian Xunji. The conflict also brought Spirit Hall’s pressure upon the Clear Sky Sect, which subsequently sealed its mountain and withdrew from public affairs 1 27.

Although Tang Hao became famous for gravely injuring Qian Xunji, he did not directly kill him. Qian Xunji survived his return to Spirit Hall, where Bibi Dong killed and devoured him; Qian Daoliu allowed Tang Hao to escape 29.

Life with Tang San

Tang San briefly stopped breathing after the battle, then revived. His unusually controlled behavior as an infant—and his later practice of techniques Tang Hao had never taught him—led Tang Hao to suspect that a monster had replaced his son 21.

Rather than kill the child, Tang Hao kept him alive as a possible instrument of revenge against Spirit Hall. He stopped caring for Tang San once the boy could work, leaving him to handle household duties despite Tang Hao’s own considerable earning potential as a Divine Craftsman 3 21.

Tang San’s awakening initially disappointed him because Blue Silver Grass appeared useless even with innate full Soul Power. Discovering the second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, restored his hopes of revenge and prompted him to acknowledge Tang San as his son 21 36.

Personality

Tang Hao’s treatment of Tang San is deeply tied to usefulness and inherited talent. Before learning about his rebirth, Tang Hao regarded him as a possible replacement for his biological child and intended to raise him as a weapon. After hearing that Tang San had previously become a god and brought his parents to the Divine Realm, he became far more invested in securing his son’s future 20 21 36.

He is intensely loyal to the Clear Sky Sect, treating its bloodline, Martial Soul, and prestige as obligations that Tang San must uphold. He accepts the sect’s abandonment of the Four Single-Attribute Clans and regards their service as expendable, even while relying on Tai Tan’s loyalty to protect his son 36 42.

His pride also produces coercion and dishonesty. He threatens to torture Kai for his Soul Ring method and expects him to serve Tang San. After the attempt fails, he conceals the circumstances of his injuries from Tai Tan by inventing a lost wager against a secluded female Titled Douluo 21 43.

Despite his confidence in his own raw strength, Tang Hao recognizes threats he can no longer overcome. After being maimed, he warns Tang San against provoking the Leng sisters and eventually abandons the effort to retrieve Xiao Wu in favor of moving his son elsewhere 23 36 42.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao possesses the Clear Sky Sect’s inherited Tool Martial Soul and teaches a fighting approach centered on overwhelming opposing techniques through strength 22 27.

  • Before his defeat, he displays nine Soul Rings: two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red 22.
  • His red ring is a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring 22.
  • His lost limbs and reduced cultivation severely weaken his ordinary combat performance; the sect’s secret arts remain important to his ability to fight 35 36.

Clear Sky Sect Secret Techniques

Leng Yulai extracts Tang Hao’s inherited techniques through Soul Search during their confrontation 22.

  • Clear Sky Nine Absolutes — one of the sect’s secret arts preserved in his memories 22.
  • Great Sumeru Hammer — an inherited hammer technique taken through the memory search 22.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer — another inherited technique obtained from him 22.

Ring Detonation

Ring Detonation allows Tang Hao to unleash power far beyond his reduced cultivation after losing his limbs 22.

  • Raises his destructive output to approximately rank 93 during the confrontation outside Nuoding City 22.
  • Its effectiveness is reinforced by his Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring 24.
  • Does not enable him to defeat the Leng sisters in his injured condition 36.
  • The sisters withdraw to protect Kai and Gu Luoyi; their retreat does not establish that Tang Hao is stronger than them 24.

Blacksmithing

Tang Hao is a Divine Craftsman who studied blacksmithing under Tai Tan 3 56.

  • His craftsmanship could have provided valuable goods for sale, making his household’s poverty a consequence of his choices rather than a lack of earning ability 3.
  • He later admits that he has money but normally does not take it out 36.

Reception of Tang San’s Thoughts

Tang Hao can hear Tang San’s unspoken thoughts, part of the phenomenon affecting people around the reborn Tang San rather than an established general mind-reading skill 20 23.

  • Learns that Tang San is a reincarnator who previously defeated Spirit Hall and attained godhood 20.
  • Hears Tang San’s private criticism of the Clear Sky Sect and Clear Sky Hammer 36.
  • Conceals his awareness from Tang San, avoiding admissions about his earlier suspicions and self-interested parenting 35 36.

Equipment / Items

  • Two inherited Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Bones — formerly located in his left arm and right leg. Leng Yaozhu takes them after severing those limbs 22.
  • Four additional Soul Bones — remain in his possession after the confrontation. Kai’s suggestion that they came from large-scale Soul Beast slaughter is explicitly speculation, not a confirmed history 22 30.
  • Soul Tool — carries one when discussing arrangements for Tang San’s new academy 36.
  • Gold Soul Coins — possesses funds despite allowing Tang San to grow up in poverty; later gives him money to register at another academy 36 42.

Relationships

  • Tang San — Son and student. Tang Hao initially raises him as a means of revenge, then commits to supporting his return to godhood after discovering his rebirth 20 21 27.
  • Ah Yin — Wife and Tang San’s mother, a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast who sacrifices herself during Spirit Hall’s pursuit. Her loss drives his desire for revenge 2 21 34.
  • Tang Chen — Grandfather and admired predecessor. Tang Chen places great hopes in his talent, while Tang Hao reveres him as the Clear Sky Sect’s foremost figure 27 36.
  • Tang Xiao — Elder brother. Tang Hao considers asking him to protect Tang San but decides against involving the sect while its inherited Soul Bones are missing 42.
  • Tai Tan — Former blacksmithing teacher turned loyal subordinate. Accepts responsibility for Tang San’s protection without learning the true cause of Tang Hao’s injuries 42 43 56.
  • Kai — Target of his attempted extortion. Kai’s protectors defeat him, and Kai leaves him alive partly to use his connection to the Clear Sky Sect 21 22.
  • Leng Yaozhu and Leng Yulai — Enemies he initially mistakes for Soul Kings. Leng Yaozhu maims him and takes his inherited Soul Bones; Leng Yulai searches his memories 20 22.
  • Xiao Wu — Tang San’s intended partner. Tang Hao refrains from attacking her after learning of her future role alongside Tang San, but she fears being captured for a Soul Ring 34 35.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Discovery of Tang San’s Rebirth

Tang Hao approaches Tang San at Nuoding Academy and is disappointed that he has not yet acquired a Soul Ring. Having seen Kai’s early Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring, he proposes taking the method for his son, dismissing Kai’s two protectors as mere Soul Kings 20.

During their conversation, he begins hearing Tang San’s thoughts. He interprets the revelations of rebirth and previous-life godhood as proof that Tang San is truly his son, abandoning his longstanding fear that the child is a monster 20 21.

Defeat Outside Nuoding City

Tang Hao lures Kai outside the city and demands both his secret method and submission to Tang San. Meanwhile, the Leng sisters capture the hidden Tang San and search his memories 22.

Before Tang Hao can attack Kai, Leng Yaozhu severs his left arm and right leg. Leng Yulai then extracts the Clear Sky Sect’s techniques from his memories. Tang Hao retaliates with Ring Detonation, prompting the sisters to withdraw with Kai and Gu Luoyi. He survives, but his cultivation falls to rank 70 22.

Training and Withdrawal

Tang Hao personally finds a roughly four-hundred-year-old Blue Silver Grass Soul Beast for Tang San’s first Soul Ring. The resulting skill heals injuries and restores stamina. He then proposes taking Xiao Wu away from Nuoding Academy with them 27.

Xiao Wu refuses Tang San’s appeals. Tang Hao struggles to understand the rejection, suspects interference from the Leng sisters, and briefly considers another covert attempt before accepting that he cannot challenge them 33 35 36.

Entrusting Tang San to Tai Tan

Tang Hao enrolls Tang San at a junior academy in a small city in the Heaven Dou Empire. Seeking a stronger protector, he considers Tang Xiao but fears that exposing the lost inherited Soul Bones will provoke conflict within the Clear Sky Sect 42.

He instead approaches Tai Tan, who initially mistakes his maimed master for a beggar. Tang Hao claims his missing limbs were the penalty for losing a wager while trying to recruit a powerful woman against Spirit Hall. Tai Tan accepts the explanation and agrees to protect Tang San 43.

Continuing Influence

Tang Hao’s reputation remains influential even after his physical defeat. At Shrek Academy, Tai Tan’s presence and Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer lead Zhao Wuji to suspect that Tang San is Clear Sky Douluo’s son. Fear of Tai Tan and the Clear Sky Sect contributes to Flender’s decision to relocate the academy without Tang San 56 58 61.
